"I don't see what the big deal is!" Adrian complained as he followed Clara around the house. She had a basket of clothes in one hand and with the other she went around his room picking up is laundry. She never thought she would turn this domestic but someone had to do the laundry.
"Adrian you just turned 16, you don't need a tattoo." Clara rolled her eyes.
"You got yours when you were young." He sighed.
"Yes, but see I was 18 and a hunter. You are neither of those so... end of discussion." Clara shrugged.
"Oh come on! It's just a tattoo it's not like I'll be showing it off." He huffed following her down the stairs. "What if a demon comes and decides to ride me around!"
"That's not gonna happen." Clara shook her head.
"You can't seriously believe that." Adrian said. "Demons have been chasing you and Dean since you were kids! Just because he has been 'retired' for like 6 months doesn't mean they won't find us." He huffed. "I mean you both put protection all around the house... why can't I just make sure I won't get possessed." He huffed.
Clara turned to face Adrian. She sighed, he had a good point. Dean had shown up at their door almost six months ago and nothing supernatural has happened since the wedding. Dean had focused on his real job and spending time with them. Only that didn't stop them from putting devil's traps under every rug, having holy water stashed everywhere, or keeping loaded rock salt gun under their bed.
"Habits die hard." Clara shrugged. "You weren't raised a hunter and you don't need an anti-possession tattoo... you know why?" She asked and Adrian rolled his eyes.
"Because nothing is gonna happen." They both said at the same time, only Adrian's voice mocked hers.
"But you can't guarantee that!" Adrian raised his voice.
"Yes I can." Clara smiled.
"Just because you and Dean had decided not to acknowledge the fact that one day something is gonna come for revenge doesn't mean I can't be prepared." Adrian crossed his arms.
Clara couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Please." She rolled her eyes. "Trust me nothing has the nerve to come face to face with Dean and I." She said walking away.
"Last time I checked you can't see into the future." Adrian followed. "And when something bad happens you are gonna feel pretty damn stupid!" He yelled.
"Okay that's enough!" Clara raised her voice. "Nothing is gonna happen, and you are not getting a tattoo. Can't you just deal with the fact you are a normal kid and you don't have to live the life we did?!" Clara was getting tired of repeating herself.
"Normal kid?" He laughed. "Clara my mom was killed by a demon! Maybe you forget what that feels like but I can't just pretend like it didn't happen!" He yelled. "And I'm tired of trying to forget! I want to find the demon who killed her."
"I know better than anyone what that is like and you should learn from my pain." Clara huffed back. "You want revenge, all you get is more dead bodies and a whole lot of guilt! So please just drop it Adrian!" She yelled a bit and sighed when she saw the anger in his eyes. "The demon that killed your mother is already dead. I took care of that almost two years ago."
"You're not my mother, she's dead and I don't have to listen to you." He said.
"You live under my roof you will do what I say." Clara said. She didn't mean to be so forceful or sound too much like a parent but Adrian was going down a dangerous path.
"I don't have to anything! I can go out on my own!" He yelled.
"You are 16!" Clara yelled back. "You don't have any other family and nowhere else to go!" She knew that was harsh and she regretted it right away.
"You spent years being at your father for not teaching you about hunting! Why can't you just teach me! Just to be safe! I don't see why this is a big problem!" Adrian was starting get really upset.
Clara shook her head and slammed the basket in her hands down on the ground. She took Adrian by his arm and pulled him into the living room. "You wanna know why it is a big deal?" She asked full of anger. Her grip on Adrian's arm was a tad tight but she was angry now. He just wouldn't listen. She didn't even know what started Adrian on this path but she needed to stop it.
"Ow..." Adrian pulled his arm away quickly once they reached the living room.
"Look at those photos." She said pointing to the mantel. "Everyone in those photos are either dead or were very close to being killed by something." She huffed. "I've died at least twice myself and Dean... well it's safe to say he and Sam die more times than anyone you could ever imagine! And everyone around them drops like flies!" Clara shook her head. "I took you in after your mother died because I wanted to give you the life we never had! If I would have left you behind you would have learned to hunt! And you know what happens to hunters who go out for revenge?!" She asked and Adrian was quiet. "They die! So unless you want to go out bloody you will drop this and just be normal!"
"How could you possibly think I can be normal!" Adrian yelled back. "I live with two hunters!" He huffed.
"NO! You think you live with hunters! You read those Supernatural books to much! We aren't those people anymore!" She shook her head. "I am a profiler for the FBI! And Dean is mechanic! Get used to the fact your 'heroes' aren't heroes anymore!" Clara was tired of explaining. "People change!"
"Ya you're telling me." Adrian said looking up at Clara. This was the first time he and Clara had actually fought. He knew he was pushing but he was tired of pretending. He took a deep breath and shook his head. She was right, they weren't the people he read about anymore. "I'm staring to think those books are full of crap. For someone who is supposed to be a badass hunter you look more life a housewife." Adrian said through is teeth.
Clara couldn't believe he had just said that. "Go to your room." She demanded and he didn't move. "Now." She ordered but again he didn't move. "Fine you want to be a hunter? You want to live a life on the road? Then go." She said stepping forward. "You don't want to listen to me then get out." She shook her head. "But I'm going to warn you now, the road is a lonely and dark place."
"Rather be lonely than live with someone who can't protect me." He narrowed his eyes.
Clara's heart broke a bit. Out of everything said that hurt the most and when Adrian spoke it was like he was someone else. He shook his head and walked toward the door. She wanted to stop him but once he got far enough away he ran out the door. She was left standing in the living room alone with her jaw clenched tightly.
"Was that Adrian I saw running down the street?" Dean's voice made Clara jump almost fifteen minutes later. "I called out to him but he didn't stop." Dean shrugged as he walked into the house. It was quiet and when he found Clara standing still in the living room he was confused. "Clara?" he asked and she didn't even look up at him. She looked really angry.
"He'll be back soon." She snapped at him.
"Well what happened?" Dean asked walking over to her.
"Nothing, why do you think something happened?" She huffed.
"Well geez I don't know maybe because your snapping at me." Dean laughed a bit. "Seriously what happened?"
"Adrian seems to think he needs to be a hunter." She huffed walking around Dean.
"Why?" Dean was confused. Adrian had never seemed to want to live that life.
"I don't know. Started with the tattoo, than he wanted to be trained and it just escalated from there." She sighed picking up the basket of clothes again. "He's just pissed, give him an hour to cool off. He'll be back."
Clara really though that Adrian would walk around for a bit then come home but as the sun started to go down she started to worry. She tried to call his cell but he never answered. She called Garcia and Morgan, but they hadn't seen him, no one had. Dean had gone for a drive around the block to see if he could find Adrian but nothing. It was around 9 when the phone rang.
"Hello?" Clara answered quickly. She was short of breath and nervous.
"He's here." Hotch's voice spoke and Clara and Dean exhaled quickly. "I'm not supposed to tell you but I thought you should know."
"Thank you Aaron." She sighed. "Can you please tell him to come home..."
"I'm afraid he is quiet angry, He told me you and him had a fight. Did you really tell him to leave?" Aaron asked not wanting to believe it.
"I was just trying to scare him. He was going on and on about hunting and I thought maybe he would stop if I threatened him?" Clara sighed. She looked over at Dean and he looked down. "I didn't think he would actually leave."
"Well he is watching T.V with Jack. I think you should just give him some space. We got a case to go over in the morning and we can go from there." Hotch said.
Clara didn't like it but she thought it was best to let Adrian to cool off. He stayed with Jack and Aaron that night. Dean could tell Clara was already feeling guilty about the things she said and he tried to make her feel better by telling her it wasn't her fault. But when did anyone believe that?
They both had a hard time falling asleep that night. When the alarms went off in the morning they both looked at each other with a sigh. They were both really quiet as they ate breakfast.
"After work I'll go talk to him." Dean spoke up as Clara walked out of their bathroom trying to pull her hair in a ponytail. She looked up at him with a small smile. "He's sixteen... the age of rebellion." He joked. "I remember when Sam was sixteen... he ran away for like two weeks." Dean said.
"That's a bit different don't you think?" She asked with a small smile as she sat at the end of the bed where Dean had sat.
"Not really... Sam just wanted to prove to dad that he could make it on his own." Dean shrugged. "I bet Adrian is the same." Clara ran a hand through her ponytail and Dean smiled at her. Clara sighed and Dean placed a gentle kiss on her forehead.
Clara walked into the BAU around 8 and she sighed when she saw Aaron pacing in his office. She placed her bag at her desk and headed up the stairs. She knocked on the door lightly. "Come in." Hotch ordered and she walked in.
"Hotch?" Clara asked as she walked in.
"Morning." He nodded as he sat down behind his desk. "Before you start asking questions.. Adrian is fine. I took him and Jack to school this morning." He said and Clara sighed.
"He's pretty mad isn't he?" She sighed.
"What happened?" Hotch asked.
"He wants to hunt." Clara said quickly and Hotch sighed. "I said no and it just escalated." She sighed shaking her head.
"You realize he just wants to be like you right?" Hotch said standing and walking over to Clara and sitting next to her.
"But I don't understand why? He has a choice we were never given." She sighed. "He could be normal, he doesn't have to be off fighting demons and monsters." She whispered. "And I know I'm not his mother and I shouldn't boss him around but... I can't watch him turn into one of them." She sighed.
"You act like all hunters are reckless and stupid." Hotch laughed.
"Have you met some of the newer generation?" Clara looked up quickly. "Trust me that is an understatement." She rolled her eyes.
"Well then teach him to be smart." Hotch said. "Teach him how to be vigilant and how to watch her back."
"Are you on his side?" Clara asked quickly. Hotch shrugged.
"Nothing wrong with being prepared."
"You make it sound like I over reacted." Clara huffed.
"Well you did. Adrian is smart and knows things kids his age could never imagine. Other kids who knew about those kinds of things would barricade themselves in their room and hide in fear." Hotch smiled. "Instead Adrian wants to face them, even you have to admit that's pretty brave."
"I hate that you are right." Clara couldn't help but smile.
"Jason Mccall, and Tobey Meller." JJ spoke as Hotch and Clara walked into the conference room. "Both found a week apart, were only missing for a day. Each just turned 21." She sighed. "Then joggers found their bodies like this." JJ sat down and as everyone looked at the photos, they all had the same kind of disgust on their faces. Both men had their genitals removed, no pants, and written across their foreheads in blood was the word Fag.
"Were they openly gay?" Morgan asked quickly.
"Yes, but unfortunately for them they lived in a very religious town." JJ answered.
"Other then their sexuality was there anything else connecting these two?" Clara asked.
"Well they were both part of a support group." Garcia said walking in quickly keeping a hand over her face. After all these years she still couldn't look at dead bodies. "They weren't friends as far as I can see but that's all I got so far." She said. handing Hotch a file.
"A week apart is quiet the cooling off period." Reid said. "You think these two were specific targets?" Reid said. "I mean there is obvious anger here, dehumanizing them by pulling their pants down sends quiet a message." Reid said and Clara let off a little laugh.
"I think the entire state of the bodies sends the message." She said quickly.
"But is it anger or hatred?" JJ asked. "I mean if our killer is gay and these two rejected him that would be a very different behaviour then someone who generally hates the gay community... right?" JJ asked.
"JJ's right... we have to find out the motive first." Hotch stood. "Wheels up in fifteen." He said leaving quickly.
Clara went to follow him when Garcia and JJ started to ask questions. They asked about Adrian and if he was alright. They asked why he had run off and Clara tried to calm them down. She just said they simply had a fight and he stormed out. She couldn't tell them the real reason so she lied. She was really getting tired of that.
Clara was paired with Morgan to go talk to the families. Somehow she always managed to get that job. Maybe because she was better at talking to grieving parents then a geological profile. "We probably shouldn't mention it had something ot do with their sexuality." Morgan said as they reached Jason Mccall's home first.
"Agreed..." She nodded.
Morgan knocked and when the door opened an older couple answered with sweet smiled. "Can we help you?" The women asked first.
The smiles threw Clara off. They just lost their son, how could they be smiling? "Yes SSA Walsh and Morgan..." She pulled her badge.
"Oh the FBI, the sheriff told us two agents would be around." The man nodded.
"We just wanted to ask you a few questions about your son Jason, if you're up for it?" Clara said.
"Oh yes of course come in." They let Clara and Morgan in. "Would you agents like anything to drink? Coffee? Tea?"
"Um no thank you." Morgan nodded as they were led into the living room. "First we would like to offer or condolences." He nodded.
"Oh you are very sweet." Mrs. Mccall said as they all sat down the same time.
Derek and Clara both looked at each other with odd reactions. They were both confused to the chipper attitude. Something they had never seen. "So you had questions? About our Jason?" Mr. Mccall said.
"Yes..." Clara started. "Did your son have any enemies that you know of?" Clara asked.
"Not really? Jason was a sweet boy... made friends easily." Mrs. Mccall said with a sigh.
"Anyone who would want to hurt him?" Morgan rephrased the question.
The couple looked at each other for a bit and thought. They both shrugged with a smile. "None that come to mind." Mr. Mccall said.
"Alright... Have you ever seen this man before?" Clara said pulling up a photo of Tobey Meller. They both took a long look at him and shook their heads.
"This was the other young man who was killed?" Mr. Mccall asked.
"Yes... he was found a few days ago." Morgan nodded. "Do you know if Jason ever had contact with him... his name is Tobey Meller."
"Meller?" They both questioned as their eyes lit up a bit. "Was he a troubled boy as well?" Mrs. Mccall asked.
"Troubled? What do you mean by that?" Clara asked narrowing her eyes.
"Oh you know how young men are... they drink and get into sticky situations." Mrs. Mccall laughed.
"Jason and Tobey didn't have criminal records." Morgan pointed out.
"Oh heaven's no!" They both laughed. "We meant..." Mrs. Mccall paused. "You know troubled with God." She whispered.
"I'm afraid you will have to be more specific." Morgan said not really understanding what they were saying, and neither did Clara.
"Well it was no secret that Jason was running around doing ungodly things, sure he went to church but he knew where he was going." Mrs. Mccall said and that caused moth Morgan and Clara jaw's to drop. "If you ask me Jason and this other boy brought this on themselves." She said straightening.
"What?" Clara asked with outrage in her tone. Morgan looked over at her to try to calm her down.
"Young lady the bible is quiet clear." Mr. Mccall spoke noticing the anger in her voice. "A man shall not lay with another man..."
"It's just wrong." Mrs. Mccall added.
"You're joking right?" Clara laughed. "It's the twenty-first century... you can't still be preaching that?" Clara laughed.
"Walsh." Derek whispered trying to stop her.
"Like I said, the bible is very clear."
"The bible is clear about a lot of things but that doesn't mean they are true or should be followed." Clara said starting to get really upset with these two. It was like they were brainwashed or something.
"I would kindly ask you to lower you tone." Mr. Mccall said raising his voice. "We are cooperating and there is no need to bring your slander and blasphemy into the mix." He said as he stood quickly.
"Blasphemy?" Clara laughed as she stood as well. "You do realize your son was murdered right? This isn't some interview for a straight camp." Clara said and Morgan stood quickly.
"Walsh." Derek warned again
"I think you should leave now." Mrs. Mccall said as she crossed her arms. "I do realize Jason is gone and it is... well I don't know what it is but you have no right to come in here and question our beliefs." She said shaking her head.
"You're beliefs got your son killed." Clara said quickly.
"Walsh!" Morgan ordered as he grabbed her arm. "I'm terribly sorry about this... we will not bother yo again. Thank you for your cooperation." He said leading Clara out quickly. The door shut loudly as Clara and Derek headed back to the SUV. "What the hell was that!" He just about yelled at her as he followed her.
"Oh come on! You can't seriously be okay with just happened in there." She turned.
"Clara people are free to believe what they like." Derek said.
"He was their son and they didn't even care! Not a single question got to them!" Clara said raising her voice. "Someone dies you don't go around saying they are where they belong!"
"That's enough!" Morgan yelled. "I didn't like what they said either but you can't let your personal feelings get in the way." Derek huffed. "What's the matter with you? I've never seen you so upset."
"Derek he was their son." She looked up at him. "They should have protected him." She said her heart pounding in her chest.
"He was 21 Clara. Free to make his own choices." Derek shrugged. "Look they are religious... you can't expect a whole lot of compassion from people who believe half of everyday life is a sin." He said in a whisper. It was quiet for a second. "We have to talk to the Meller family.. you good?" He asked before walking over to the driver's side.
"I'm good." Clara said through her teeth. She sighed as she slammed the door and watched that house disappear in the rear view mirror.
The Meller family was the same. They didn't seem concerned or even upset about their son. Derek did all the talking because he could tell by the expression on Clara's face that she was not okay with this. He was a bit confused as well, their son did just die but not a single tear or question about suspects was asked. It was the fist in his whole career that he interviewed a family and the mother didn't cry or the father didn't get angry.
"Okay something strange in going on."Morgan said as the team regrouped.
"What do you mean?" Hotch said as he looked at Morgan asked as Clara hid in the corner of the room. She kept her head down and listened.
"Neither of the families knew each other, and they both knew about their son's sexuality." he sighed. "It was pretty clear they did not approve at all." He said looking over at Clara.
She let off a laugh. "Hotch if someone had hurt Jack how would you react?" She asked and he was quiet. "JJ what about you? If someone killed Henry?" She asked.
"I couldn't even imagine that." JJ said her eyes getting glossy just thinking about it. "Why are you asking?" She asked clearing her throat.
"That right there." Clara pushed off the wall and walked over to JJ. "Henry is at home safe with Will but just the thought of it brings tears to your eyes." She said with a shake of her head.
"Walsh what's your point?" Hotch asked and Morgan sighed.
"The Meller's and the Mccall's... not a single tear came to their eyes, not a plea for answers, not anything." She said looking up. "It was almost like they were happy."
"Walsh I'm sure that's not true." JJ said. "How could someone just not care?"
"They said their sons were they belonged, but they weren't talking about the pearly gates." She said looking over at Hotch.
"They said Jason and Tobey went to hell?" Hotch asked quickly.
"Called them troubled and deserved what they got." Walsh said.
The room fell silent. No one knew how to respond to that. No one had ever faced a family who didn't care, never the less two families who thought their dead sons got what they deserved. They all looked at the crime scene photos and didn't know how to move forward.
"I think it's safe to say this is about hate." Reid said. "We spoke to a Reverend who said the same as the parents." he sighed. "Said he preaches about sin and how homosexuality is the worst crime according to heaven."
"How can people still think that." Clara rolled her eyes.
"People have been believing it for a long time... This is why I never understood organized religion." Reid shook his head.
"Trust me that isn't the worst." Hotch and Clara seemed to say at the same time. They both looked up and knew they were thinking about the same thing; Armageddon.
"Dose the preacher have any personal ties to the vics?" Morgan asked.
"He ran the support group." JJ said.
"What?" They all asked quickly.
"Garcia said it was less of a support group and more of a getting on the righteous path group." JJ sighed. "Guys what is up with this town?" She whispered.
"They have their noses to far up God's ass." Clara said and all heads whipped to her. "What?" She asked. "You were all thinking it..."
"Are you alright?" Morgan asked. "You seem a bit off." He said.
"Off how?" Clara asked in a defensive tone.
"You lost it on a victims parents, and now with the hate on for religion..." He pointed out.
"Okay one, that family was wacked and two, I'm fine." She rolled her eyes.
"Guys..." Garcia's voice came from the computer quickly. "We have a small problem." She sighed as we all gathered to listen. "The Reverend... Daniel Jacobs, he just bought a one way ticket to Egypt." She said. "And there is more... the police located Tobey and Jason's cars. They were parked at the church."
When a man of God starts to kill it always give Clara a weird feeling. It just reminded her of angels and being chased. Only this time she did the chasing. It was an open and shut case. The Reverend confessed once we cornered him. He said those boys deserved what they got and with every word he spoke sent a shiver down Clara's back. Those poor men, if only their parents would have been more accepting.
That's how Clara found her self sitting in her room staring at her phone. This case had just made her realize it was her job to protect Adrian and she was seriously slacking on that. She sighed as she played with the phone. She didn't know how to apologize to a 16 year old. She had a drink from the mini bar and knew they had an early flight. Maybe she could just apologize them. She sighed and picked up the phone, only she called Dean.
"You know what to do." His voicemail spoke quickly. Odd, he always answered her calls.
"Dean... it's me. I just wanted to know how your talk with Adrian went. Call me when you get this." She sighed and hung up. She looked at the phone and went to dial Adrian's number when there was a knock at her door. She jumped not expecting anyone. She walked over quickly and opened the door. "Yeah?" She questioned before she even had a chance to see who it was. She looked at the empty doorway and was confused. She stepped into the hall and was confused. "Hello?" She asked quietly.
"Clara?" Cas' said once Clara had closed the door.
"Holy..." She jumped as she gasped. "Cas..." She breathed. "You really need to make more noise." She laughed.
"I did knock." He smirked.
"True... so what can I do for you?" She smiled placing her hands on her hips.
"I was actually hoping for some advice." he sighed.
"You need my advice? Cas you're an angel... what the hell do I know that you don't." She laughed.
"Free will." He looked up at her with big sad eyes.
"What about it?" She asked as they both sat at the edge of her bed.
"How do I show others that they have it?" He asked. "Dean and Sam taught me how to make a stand but I am having trouble showing other angels the same." He sighed.
"Well can't you just tell them that they are simply free to do what they like?" She asked.
"I tried." Cas shrugged. "They just keep asking what God wants them to do... it's like they can't grasp the concept."
"Alright well ask them what they want to do." She sighed. "I mean every angel must want to do at least one thing right? And if it isn't kill a bunch of people or set off a bomb then what harm could it do... right?" She asked.
"I guess." Cas nodded.
"Why do you want to know how to teach angels about free will?" She asked.
"Because... they wanted someone to follow and I can't be that someone." He sighed.
"Well why not?" Clara asked turning her body to the side to face him.
"I'm not a leader." Cas rolled his eyes.
Clara laughed. "Oh come on. You can't actually believe that can you?" She asked and Cas shrugged. "Okay let me put some things into perspective for you..." She sighed. "You raised Dean from hell, you helped Sam and Dean defeat Lucifer, you died and God brought you back. Don't you think there must have been a reason for that?" She asked. "Cas I may not have believed in angels at one point but after the last two years... I've met enough of them to know you are ten times braver and kinder than any of them." She sighed.
Cas looked up at Clara with big eyes. A small smile popped up and he sighed. "I've said awful things to you, I delivered you to Zachariah which lead to your death, and yet you still have faith in me?" He asked narrowing his eyes a bit.
Clara smiled. "Of course I do." She rolled her eyes. "That's what family does." She smiled. Cas looked over at her with such relief she thought for a second he might cry. She gave him a reassuring smile and he sighed again. "So... almost six months since I last saw you." She started. "Was there anything else I can help with?" She asked knowing it might be the last she saw of him in a while. Truth was she didn't want him to leave. It was weird for him not to be around anymore and anytime spent with Cas always made Clara feel better for some reason.
"I may have started a civil war." She said quietly and Clara laughed. "Why are you laughing?" he couldn't help but smile.
"It's just... I wouldn't have expected anything less." She sighed after she finished laughing. "One of these days you might have to legally change your last name to Winchester." Cas let off a small laugh.
"You may be right..."
"Alright well are you at least winning?" She asked getting back to the civil war.
"If I can find a way to beat Raphael then yes but..." Case paused and Clara sat forward a bit. "I just can't seem to find anything and I've been looking for months now." He sighed.
"Well you and I both know that there is always a way." Clara sat straight. "So you go back home, rally the troops and find a way to kick that ninja turtle's ass." Clara stood quickly taking Cas' hand and pulling him up with her. She knew he didn't understand her reference but she always smiled when she saw his confused look, almost like a puppy who can't catch his tail.
"Thank you Clara." He smiled still holding her hands in his. She noticed how tightly he held on, almost like he didn't want to leave.
"Anytime." She smiled sweetly.
Once Cas had vanished after a moment of silence Clara found herself alone again. She sighed as she looked back at the table and saw her phone. She walked over and dialled Dean's number again. Still no answer. She looked over at the clock and shrugged, he must have been sleeping which is what she should do as well.
The next morning everyone was up early and ready to head back to Virginia at 8 am. Dean still had not called Clara back and she was starting to wonder what he was up too. Maybe he had went to talk to Adrian? Clara finally got the nerve up to call Adrian before she got on the plane but he didn't answer either.
"Adrian I know your pissed at me but I really need you to call me back... please." She sighed and hung up after she had finished her message.
"Everything alright Walsh?" Derek walked up behind her and asked.
"Um well I think so... no one seems to want to answer their phones anymore." She sighed as they walked onto the plane and sat across from each other.
"Adrian still pissed?" He asked and Clara nodded. "What happened anyways? If you don't mind me asking, who knows maybe I could help." He laughed a bit.
"Oh I doubt it." Clara laughed.
"Oh come on, I might be a dad eventually..." he sighed.
"He just wanted something and I said no and it turned into a whole thing... I over reacted and he was kinda right." Clara sighed not wanting to share the real fight. Derek nodded.
"Well the kids 16, he'll be made for about a day then he'll get over it." Derek laughed. "Boys don't have the biggest attention span." He offered.
"Yeah I hope so." Clara sighed.
It was a long flight but once they landed everyone was ready to go home and get more sleep. Clara was last off the plane and last to enter the building. The team was talking and Clara was just a bit zoned out. She was behind everyone and as they exited the elevator a very distraught Penelope greeted them.
"Baby Girl what's matter?" Derek was first to notice her.
"We have a problem." She said looking for Clara. "There is someone on the phone for you." She looked at Clara and she was so unfocused she didn't even pay attention.
"What?" Clara snapped her head and sighed.
"There is someone on the phone for you... in the conference room." She sighed.
"Well who is it?" She asked.
"I don't know... I tried to trace the call but it's like they are calling from another planet." She shrugged. "And when I asked he just yelled for you..." Penelope said as Derek put an arm around her.
"Did he say what it was about?" Clara asked as they all headed to the conference room quickly.
"No... just that he needed to speak to you." She said with a bit of a stutter.
The whole team walked into the room and it got quiet. Clara walked over to the phone that was in the middle of the room and pressed the speaker button. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I hear you want to speak to me." She said her voice bouncing back to normal.
"Actually Darlin' I wanted to speak to you an hour ago... you shouldn't keep me waiting." That accent was familiar, and they way he called her Darling, almost like they had met before.
"Oh well I do apologize for your inconvenience." Clara rolled her eyes. "Well I'm here now... what can I do for you? And if you wouldn't mind telling me who you are that would be preferable." Clara said looking down at the table and she leaned forward.
"Oh come now Darlin'... It's been a while but I felt that we had an unspoken bond of sorts." He chuckled to himself and the way he spoke made Clara's eyes widen. "I take it from your silence you remember." He added.
"I do." Clara said looking at her friends who looked confused. She didn't say his name because they would ask questions. "What do you want?" She asked quickly with a huff.
"It's not what I want... It's more of what I can do for you." He said. "Now I realize the other members of your team are listening so I'll keep this short." He said with a huff. "I need you to convince sweet Cas to join me or I gut the kid." JJ and Penelope gasped and Clara looked up quickly.
"Gut?" Clara laughed. "Now we both know that isn't your style." Clara shook her head as everyone stared at her with big confused eyes. "And what makes you think I know where Cas is?" Clara asked.
"Do not lie to me agent!" He raised his voice and Clara smiled. "I know you spoke with him last night, and maybe I try something new." He calmed down. "We both know your reputation and don't think I won't make this about revenge for what you have done to my kind! You think you are invincible, well let's see what happens if I cut Adrian to bits and drag him to the pit with me!" He yelled and that's when Clara picked up the phone and took it off speaker.
She turned her back to the team and dropped her voice to sound intimidating. "You listen to me you good for nothing scum. You harm one hair on that boy's head and I'll make sure you rot in the depths of hell." She said, her voice full of anger she knew the team was listening but she no longer cared.
"Bring Cas to me or I will show you real pain." His words rang through Clara's ear and then he hung up. She slammed the phone down quickly and headed for the door.
"Clara..." JJ asked in a timid voice.
"What was that?" Penelope asked as she and the other followed her. They all seemed so scared. Things had quickly gotten out of hand. Clara barely had time to answer their questions before she ran out of the room. She was going to find Adrian but when she saw the elevator doors open she stopped and clenched her fits.
Dean ran from the elevator and once he saw Clara he felt a pang of guilt hit him. He rushed over to her and she looked up at him. "Please tell me you have Adrian with you." She asked quickly.
"I was going to ask you that." Dean said his voice a bit in a panic.
"Son of a-" She paused and looked up at Dean.
"What?" He hesitated not wanting anything bad to come from her. Things had been going so well fro 6 months and he feared it was just a matter of time before something ruined that. They both thought the same for a long time.
Clara had to take a long deep breath before she opened her mouth. Her whole team was behind her ready for answers and now Adrian was in the hands of a monster. She shook her head. Guilt washed over her just before she spoke. "Crowley has him."
