Chapter 16: Scarlet Promise

"Taiyo? Please eat sweetie." Mira begged as she knocked softly on the infirmary door of the guild. The small boy locked himself in there for days crying of the loss of his mother and the cruelty of fate. His tears would echo in the guild making the already depressed guild members more depressed. Mira and Lisanna being the only ones that seemed to attempt to help others by getting them to eat and look on the Brightside. "Taiyo. Please. Lucy wouldn't want this." Mira sighed as she rested her head on the wooden door begging the spirits for it to open.

The overwhelming magic of the boy surrounded the guild as it has been since a few days ago. They always thought he was just a normal boy, but this. His magic exceeds anything they have ever felt and it is up to them to protect him and it until the time comes. As time passes the boy seems to send off more and more magic making others feel his power and pain. But he couldn't help it. He was in too much pain over realizing the loss of his mother. He can't control his magic.

Taiyo let out a soft whimper as he lifted his head up from his hands too look around the infirmary room. Or what was left of the room. He can't control it. The room suffered all the damage as he tried to contain it in this room only. He looked around with his eyes changing in different colors the room looked as if it has went through a war with all the elements of nature. Taiyo started to breathe heavily as the memories hit him again causing him to panic. The objects around the room flew up in the air making a small whirlwind as fire engulfed them as well as water. The objects crashed against the walls glowing brightly.

"Mommy." He whispered out hoarsely as he wept in his hands. He couldn't stop it. The magic is getting stronger. The noises in the room became louder deafening his ears as everything spiraled out of control. He couldn't hold it. He can't contain it anymore.

"That boy!" Markov muttered out in a hiss as he felt Taiyo's magic intensify. The guild seemed to shake violently everyone inside screaming as the roof of the guild seemed to come down. Master looked frantically through the guild for Mira. This episode of sorrow is stronger than the other's that the boy had. If this keeps going the boy will end up destroying the guild and maybe even the city. When his eyes landed on the white barmaid he stared at her with a serious expression. They had to do something. They had to stop this.

Mira quickly changed into her demon takeover upon noticing Master's nod. She had to do this. She turned towards the infirmary with a grim expression as she blasted the door open. The guild shook violently under her feet as the roars of destruction echoed around. She looked in shock inside at the war of elements happening around the sobbing boy. This tantrum is worse than the last one. Without even a second thought Mira walked into the room shielding her eyes with her arms because of the mass of power around her. She felt the burns of the fire hitting her skin as well as the slices of the wind cutting her skin. The freezing water attempted to slow her down, but she kept on.

"Taiyo!" She yelled out hoping to reach the boy as she neared. Her body covered in burns, cuts, and bruises. "Taiyo! Stop Please! Taiyo! You will destroy everything if you keep this up! Control your emotions!"

Taiyo let out a yell as tears came down his eyes. Images of his mom going through his head. He has done this. He is always making her sad and miserable. It was his fault she had to keep this secret from the guild. It was his fault that she hurt herself. It was his fault she died. It was his entire fault. His existence should be terminated. He should leave this world. He was truly an orphan now. Taiyo continued to sob out letting his emotions run wild not even noticing the groans of the building slowly collapsing or even the yells of the guild members.

The ground shook more violently making the buildings in the town shake violently. The towns people screamed as they ran thinking an earthquake is upon them. The sky blackened as lightening shot down setting fire to anything it hit. The people of Magnolia screamed and ran in horror as they witnessed Mother Nature have a war against them. The water in the river moved violently as all at once it shot to the sky with such intensity. The water turned into ice shards as went down towards the people. They screamed at the horror as they ran avoided the ice shards, the fires, and even the wind as much as they could. They almost let out a sigh of relief as the guild members of fairy tail ran out of the guild protecting them as much as they could. The yells of their team work echoing.

"Taiyo! Stop!" Mira yelled as she moved closer to the boy, but only to be flown backwards by the overwhelming force of the boys power. Erza stared in shock as Mira crashed against the walls of the guild unconscious. Her eyes then turned back to Taiyo to see a shield like yellow glow surround him. She couldn't believe what he is doing now. His power is too strong, but she has to try all she can to stop him.

Erza changed into Japanese Cloth armor. The bandage around her breast tight as the large red pants hugged her waist. She felt the twin swords cold against her bare hands as her bare feet landed on the wooden floor of the guild with ease. Erza can feel the tremors of the earth under her feet as the guild seemed to collapse above her. She closed her eyes softly letting her sense of hearing and feeling take over.

Erza ran through the guild avoiding the falling rubble as well as the fire that seemed to explode of the infirmary. Her heading is to the center of the destruction. Her target being the son of Lucy. Once she reached in the room the wind sliced against her skin attempting to force her back, but she pushed on. Erza crossed the twin blades in front of her as she used all her strength to slice the wind in half granting her the passage closer to the sobbing boy. The red haired mage gritted her teeth in concentration as she kept her eyes shut tightly. Her breathing coming out heavily as she felt the burns of the fire against her skin. She let out a hiss of pain as she felt the freezing water crash against her trying to push her back. Erza snapped her eyes open to see the small boy looking at her with ever changing eyes. His face holding shock and grief. Erza almost felt guilt as she lift the back of her sword towards the boy hitting him behind his head. Just at the back of the sword struck the small boys head he instantly became unconscious while everything stopped.

Erza let out a breath of relief as the felt the earth stop moving. The objects that were flying around the room dropped to the floor as the fire was extinguished by the water around. The air died out leaving the destruction of boy's actions lying around. Erza grabbed the unconscious boy in her arms holding him to her drenched form protectively as she saw silent tears go down his face.

"Erza." Master spoke softly as he entered the destroyed room quietly. His eyes couldn't believe at all the destruction the small boy had caused. The Master stared at the red haired woman holding the unconscious boy to her as she stared at him in grief. Erza looked up at Master Markov in grief seeing his face mirroring hers as well as worry and exhaustion.

"Mira?" Erza asked wondering about the white haired mage's condition.

"She is fine just knocked out." Markov answered his eyes never leaving Taiyo.

"And the town?"

"Damaged greatly, but the members of the guild have started to help around to repair and checked the injured. There are no casualties thank the spirits, but many are injured." Erza nodded upon Master's words taking it all in as she held the boy. She looked down at Taiyo tenderly with sadden eyes.

"He can't stay here, right? He put the guild members and the town at risk. His power is too great for us to handle." She whispered out in sorrow as she ran her hands through the boy's orange and yellow hair. Soft tears went down her eyes knowing of what to come. "He must go back to the dragon realm where he is safe and protected. Until he can keep better control of his powers…. Since his mother can't… If Lucy sacrificed her life to protect him why can't we. This is the first time I have ever felt so helpless. I don't know what to do." Erza cried. Master Markov walked into the room towards her putting a hand softly on her shoulder. Erza looked down at her small Master in sadness.

"None of us know what to do. We all feel helpless. We have lost a comrade without knowing how. We all don't know what to do. All that is left is to watch what the future holds. Although the fate may be cruel it is all done for a purpose. The boy is the key to a greater future, but letting him stay here and destroy everything with his sorrow is not the answer. We have to give the first push for him to move on. If we don't I fear the future will be blackened with grief."

"I will take him out of Magnolia then. Once he wakes I will inform him what has happened. I will let him know that we are his family so as his family in order to protect him we must let him go. He must go back to the dragon's. There is…"

"Erza…" Master spoke not wanting to hear more from the red head. He noticed how the strong woman shook with hopelessness and grief. She doesn't know what to do. She wants to do what's best for the boy. She doesn't want to leave him. "We all will go. We all must make sure he understands the importance of going back to the Dragon's. It is not only because he unconsciously put us all in danger, but also because they will be after him. Those creatures will be upon him soon. We are not strong enough to protect him."

"We can die trying.."

"No..Do you honestly believe that the boy will be fine mentally upon seeing all of us die to protect him? He has already lost his mother. Look what that did to him. Imagine the destruction he will do once he sees everyone he loves died to protect him. He already blames himself enough."

Erza looked down at the boy with worry. He looked so troubled. He went through so much at a young age. Blaming everything on himself even his mother's death. Erza sighed as she ran a hand through his golden and orange silky locks. Nothing is his fault. None of this is his fault. He is just a small boy. He should be having fun and have loving parents to protect him. Master is right the boy is to powerful. He is like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode unless he gets his magic under control. But Erza can't leave him alone. She can't just say goodbye and expect him to safe.

"Master….I would like to accompany the boy to the Dragon's realm. I want to protect him. I want to keep him safe. I want to stay with him. I will raise him like my son, I promise. I will do everything I can for this child not to experience no more sadness." Erza spoke looking up at the sadden Master. Master Markov couldn't help, but smile down at his child. He can see the fire burning in her eyes.

"It is not an easy journey. "

"Nothing is ever easy in this life."

"The boy would need healing mentally and emotionally are you prepared for that. Are you prepared to nurture him loving as a mother knowing that he is not your child. To him you will never replace his mother."

"I don't want to replace Lucy! No one can replace, Lucy. I just want to protect her son like she would want us to. We all made a promise to her when she first brought him to the guild that we will protect him as if he was our own child. I will keep that promise." Erza let out standing up with the still unconscious boy in his arms. She held him to her cool armored chest lovingly as she walked through the destroyed guild with Master next to her.

"Our guild mourns silently in our hearts for Lucy. We won't be the same without her, but she will always remain in our hearts. We must keep her linage still alive and well. This boy looks so much like his mother hopefully he will live a happy worry free life." Master spoke out looking at the small boy in the Scarlet mage's arms. His eyes holding the love and care for him. Master couldn't help, but feel responsible for what happened to Lucy. He knew the whole time about the truth, but chose not to say anything. He wanted her to tell everyone so he prepared the room for her. If only he had prepared the room early if only he could have found some way to let her know he knew and wanted to help her. Silent tears slipped down the Master's eyes. He has failed his child. "Protect him Erza. Protect the child of Lucy Heartfilia. Protect our family. Watch over his training. Help him with all your might. Help heal his broken heart. Then bring him back home when he is ready. "

"I will. I promise." Erza breathed out as she walked out the guild taking in the town's destruction. Tears went down her eyes as she saw her guild members helping as much as they can to repair the broken town. She tightened her hold on Taiyo protectively. Erza walked through the town in silence tears going down her eyes. The guild members realizing the Scarlet's pain stared in pain realizing what has to happen.

"Nooo! Erza! He can't leave. He is still a child." Lisanna cried as she ran up to Erza. Tears filled her eyes matching the other guild members that started crying. They slowly walked up to Erza surrounding her with their protest. Their hearts crying for the unconscious child in Erza's arms.

"Erza. Please. He can't leave. He won't survive out there. He just lost his mother he can't lose his family." Levi sobbed out as she made her way towards the red haired mage. Her heart breaking slowly for the boy. She was willing to take the boy to take care of him as a mother in fact everyone in the guild was willing to do it. Levi cried as she held her large stomach if it was her child and all this happened she would have been furious with the guild.

"It has to be done, but don't worry. I promise I will protect him." Erza whispered as she looked down. Her legs kept moving forward away from the guild away from her crying family.

The guild members stared in sorrow as Erza walked away with the unconscious boy. Their sobbing echoed through the town as they let out everything they were holding in since they discovered Lucy's death. The guild members attempted to hold Cana, Levi, and Lisanna back as they sobbed loudly. Levi kept screaming no as she apologized to Lucy's spirit up in heaven. Cana cried for Lucy as the members as well as her husband held her back. Gray held Juvia in his arms as she cried in his chest his eyes never leaving Erza's disappearing figure. He knew Erza has chosen to take the responsibility of the child by herself. Gray's eyes burned as tears slowly went down his cheeks his hold tightened on his wife. Back in the guild Mira awoke to hear the news from her husband Freed. Freed fought his wife as she attempted to go after Erza, but to only end up holding her crying form in his arms.

Master Markov stared out into the afternoon sky with his hands behind his back. He looked out into the destroyed town feeling the sorrow of his children as their cries echoed through his ears. He can see the three exceeds of the guild chasing after Erza's shadow wanting to go with her on her journey. Tears went down the Master's eyes as he prayed to the spirits for strength, for protection, and for his children.

The Scarlet mage's words earlier echoed through his mind. Her promise seemed to fly through the town leaving hope as hers as well as the Exceeds presence disappeared from the town.
