Sorry again for the late post guys. :( I know I usually don't do that, but I apologize regardless. XD I was feeling a bit sick, not to mention my internet is still acting up. So this time I used a friend's computer to update. Enjoy; and again; sorry. ^^;
Chapter 22: Impatient Pt. 2.
The pacing was slightly crooked. The breathing was heavy. The body was tired, and used up.
Rat grew impatient, but kept waiting. From the distance of the window's curtains he saw red glowing eyes staring right back at him.
"Did you wait long enough mortal?" Asked the Shinigami with the red piercing eyes.
"Yes, I've waited long enough!" Yelled out Rat impatiently.
The Shinigami scarred with the cross in the center just looked at the human as pathetic as Rat; blankly as ever. Not at all caring about Rat's constant panic.
"I don't care at this point if I end up dead. I just want to avenge for all the misery I was put through. By that stupid old man. But since he's dead; the only best way to do it is to get back at his legacy. The Successors and the rest of those brat children at the Wammy's House." Said Rat quite tired of repeating himself.
"Even when you we're the culprit who did wrong?" Reminded the red eyed Shinigami.
"I din't do anything wrong! I just reacted to what was rightfully mine! I was equal to all those children! Yet I got nothing! L received everything! And I got nothing! Thrown out, and placed into prison! By that stupid old man who funded the Wammy House... Watari." Said Rat bitterly.
"You mutter on, and on... How it's not your fault. Did you not murder that nun Lilith? Did you not try to steal the Wammy House's fortune? You we're never the heir... The Heir was the current L that took the role of the Detective everyone has come to know as the savior of Kira's wrath. The savior of the world. And you are nothing like that... You are a regular human who chose the path of evil. Nothing rightfully belongs to you." Said the Shinigami with the red eyes.
"You say nothing?! Nothing? I had just as much rights then that damn L. But I'm glad he's dead. Someone else took his place thought; but he too will soon be eliminated... You will see... Everything I deserved shall be mine, including the lives of those miserable bastards." Whispered Rat to himself.
The night was piercing dark, that even the illuminating lamps could not help the vision of those walking in it. Sayu walked for what seemed like hours. Feeling numb all over; despite being able to walk. Reaching the front steps of her home. Hoping no one at the moment disturbed her solitude. She of course received none of that as she could feel the door of her home opening to reveal light from withing. Feeling the few steps behind her, and feeling the supporting hands at her shoulders. Feeling a gentle brush of softness at the side of her forehead. Blond hair. She could see he had a concerned look, but avoided his glance. Mello's eyes had a way of getting to your soul, and it was best to try and avoid it; if you did not want to explain yourself to him. But he was not one to shy away; and question you instead with his strong determined voice.
"Sayu... Why din't you show up at the park? Look at the time? I hope you don't mind me entering your house to put Maria to bed. I told the kids you had something sudden come up, so we had a good time regardless; not to disappoint our daughter." Said Mello; feeling concerned by Sayu's silence.
"I'm sorry Mello... Crime seems to grow; and I was caught up in it. That's all." Said Sayu nonchalantly.
"What do you mean?! Are you okay?!" Mello asked worried; grabbing Sayu's arms firmly.
"I'm fine; are you Mello?" Asked Sayu now, looking back at the blond.
Mello felt a bit stung by the question.
Looking at Sayu; wondering if she knew anything he did. Worrying all the while about her safety.
"Maybe you should get some rest Sayu. Come. I'll take you to bed." Mello said, as he helped Sayu up. Taking her inside.
Sayu felt like a child. Being over protected as thought she could handle nothing. She was tired of it. Mello stayed beside her; falling asleep next to her. The next morning Sayu found a note next to her. Telling her to stay safe, and that he would return to check on her. Sayu gripped at the note firmly. Reaching for her cellphone beside her. Dialing a number she knew well. It began to ring, then to be picked up at the other end.
"Yes Sayu? What is it? Are you okay?" Asked the other person at the end of the line.
"Hello Mogi. I'm fine. Could I possibly get some answers from you? For once in this anonymous time I've been having?" Asked Sayu Yagami back; quite impatient by everything now a days.
