Part of finishing this story off. Chapter 30. Have fun reading. Took me forever to write. Tired as hell. And one of my longest Chapters in this story.
Chapter 30: Dig Deep.
As soon as Sayu had left the hospital grounds; she felt another presence behind her. Stopping to look behind her; she saw the approaching car beside her. Driving it was Gevanni. Looking her way, expecting her to come in with him, he got out; opening the car door for her to enter.
"Want to get out of here faster? Hop in if so." Gevanni instructed.
Sayu quickly took advantage. Knowing full well Gevanni understood her side partly. Leaving the hospital and all else behind.
...
Time rotating on brought both Gevanni and Sayu over to Sachiko's home; Sayu's family home...
Sayu knocked at the door, knocking a few times more. Sayu looking back at Gevanni shrugged; until noticing a note left next to the door knob indicating to Sachiko's friends she'd be back in a few from some shopping.
Sayu coming over, re-entered the car again.
"Guess my mother went out to buy more house design supplies. Seem's like some friends we're coming over." Sayu said. Fastening her seat belt on. Gevanni nodded his head looking Sayu's way.
"I left her a note saying that I have to go, but I'll be back to Japan some other time to see her." Sayu reassured Gevanni; making him finally proceed with driving to the exit back to England.
Arriving at the airport; both Sayu and Gevanni boarded for the plain to England.
...
Elsewhere,
An angry Mello was already aware of Sayu's room being empty. Ripping the sheets away from the bed; he tossed them against the wall angrily. Still glaring at the bed, he looked both Matt and Near's way.
"So Near. Was this your plan too?!" Mello questioned in a tone that would normally frighten any normal young person. If it could be called a tone. More like a ferocious animal's growl.
"Now Mello. It's true what Gevanni has said earlier... Sayu Yagami is a grown woman. She can do as she pleases. Now if it we're your daughter doing so; then you have every reason to rage about it." Near reminded the feisty blond. Curling his white strand of hair. Looking nonchalant as always.
Matt only stood a few inches away. Preferring to stay away from the argument at hand, but still present if things we're to ever get out of hand between the two rivals before him. Constantly at each others throats. Like animals trapped in a cage to face one another.
Linda appeared from the shadows, viewing since the beginning. She stood there beside Matt. Worry in her face never ending.
"Near. Could we please talk for a second? Please?" Requested Linda.
Near slowly took a glance behind; towards Linda. Looking at Mello; then to break eye contact with his rival to give Linda the attention she had requested of him. Walking towards her, he took Linda by the shoulder. Leaving his fellow allies behind; as he thought of them to be.
"What is it Linda?" Near asked with his expression non-changing from the incident before.
"Near... Do you want to catch this new Kira? Or Quarrel over there with Mello?" Linda asked curiously.
Near, if ever; was a bit taking aback by this question. Especially from Linda. Of all people. Standing there before him, he answered with a simple nod. He understood the importance, yet how did he stray away so easily from it? Did rivalry get the better of him with these passing years? Whatever the case. Now was no time for wasting hours of arguments. It was time to check up on Rat, to see if he would spill who's really behind all this. Asking Linda to follow behind him. Near walked over to the room where Rat was being held at. The man still lay there obviously attached to the bed. Silent in thought. Laying there; starring at the shades of the window in deep thought. Not bothering at all to escape. The light seeping through those shades. Illuminating it's rays onto Rester's blond hair. Causing the light to appear brighter, blinding.
"He has not spoken since he's woken up. Should we use other methods to get him to talk Near?" Suggested Rester anxiously.
"No. Let me try for now to talk to Rat." Responded Near. Taking a seat beside Rat's bed. Already in an effort to get down to business.
"If you want names; I ain't got them kid. So you can stop wasting your time." Rat already had answered without being questioned.
"Oh really? You expect me to believe that you are not aware of those you work for Rat. How can you expect that of me? If your not dead yet, you must be of some value; thus knowing more then you make out to be. I know your not working alone. We both know that." Near pushed back an answer; in hopes of getting the guy to spill everything immediately; before using force upon him.
"I know nothing." Rat repeated. Giving Near nothing but sneers and glares piercing like daggers.
"So you refuse to give us any other information? Very well. Rester..." Near proceeded.
"Do anything to force Rat to talk. We need answers. Since he's still alive; we might have a chance. Before who ever is on top decides to kill him off." Said Near. Leaving the room with a concerned Linda following behind Near's every step.
"Yes sir." Was all Rester said; closing the door behind them both.
Linda felt a bit anxious, and nervous. If they did not get the information they needed soon. Rat may be eliminated. Making them be back to square one again. Something they could not afford. All the stress of that again would surely make anyone sick of the constant repeated ordeal. Especially that of a killer notebook.
"Are you alright Linda?" Questioned Near. Looking over Linda's worried and daisy expression.
"Ugh... I'm fine Near! Don't worry about me. How are you? Are you alright yourself?" Asked Linda back. Blushing furiously.
Near looked at Linda as thought what she had asked was foreign. And Linda could not help but feel pressure from Near's silent demeanor
"Ummm... Are you alright Near?" Linda had asked again. Hoping this time she'd get an answer.
"Can't you see Near. Every great man needs a great woman. She's concerned about you. What is so bizarre about that?" Questioned T out of nowhere. Coming to a halt between them. Looking both of them in the eyes.
"Nothing's weird about that. Now why are you here Terr?" Asked Near this time. Turning his attention from one thing to another.
"I'm here to assist with information you might need. If you and your team are willing to take the information I've got to offer." Terr said quite confidently.
"Your planning to use me, and my team of Anti-Kira for your own selfish needs are you not?" Near asked. Causing Terr to cock an eyebrow up in disbelief.
"It's no different then your little games Near. You like to pull peoples strings quite often. Not so different are we?" Stated Terr.
"Well yes, you have a point. Regardless thought. I'm not out for revenge like you." Scolded Near back.
Terr stared blankly at Near, then shrugging; raising his hands in defeat; with a smile as broad as his shoulders.
"Well, you got me there buddy. I'm sorry." Terr said with a smile still plastered on his face.
Near glanced at Terr, then turning his attention back to Linda.
"I'm fine Linda. Nothing serious at all. I'm just dying to get over this case to be honest. It's beginning to really be troublesome for everyone involved." Near said, glancing the other direction. Making a blushing Linda not being able to help, but smile. As long as he was fine; she was fine herself.
Near began to curl one of his hair strands in an attempt to avoid any other feelings he might encounter; as he walked with Linda; following Terr all the while to figure out about all he had to offer them at the moment.
...
As soon as Sayu was escorted by Gevanni to her home. She thank him for understanding her whole situation. For helping her in general. She pecked his cheek gently in a friendly gesture. Gevanni nodded, turning to take his leave, before Sayu called out to him again.
"Gevanni. Could you please tell me where Matsuda is by the way? I really need to see him. Could you let me in on it?" Sayu had asked. Concern in her tone.
"I'll take you over tonight. Be ready by 7:00p.m." Gevanni assured.
"Thank you Gevanni." Sayu said happily. Closing the door as he left.
Meanwhile.
Around 6:00p.m. Someone was sitting in a bar located in Sayu's same area; England. Receiving a certain call, by an individual who witnessed Rat's fall.
"Is that right...? Well. He can enjoy himself for a bit. There's no need to write his name. Just give the notebook back to the Shinigami, and forget everything. Relinquish ownership." The man had responded to the other person's uncertain questions.
"Are you not tired...?" Takada interrupted the smiling man.
"Why of course not. Why would I? Manipulating people is what makes the show interesting. Don't you think? Mrs. Takada Kiyomi?" The man known as Seur questioned with an adoring smile, and a flick of his shoulder length hair. Taking a sip of his wine he looked quite delighted; as long as he was entertained, nothing else mattered. Takada could only stair at the man in front of her with distaste.
"I have to escape this situation, but I can't... Not when my life is in risk here. How...?" Takada was thinking to herself.
Takada suddenly twitched at the sudden touch at her hand resting on the table. It was Seur again. Again with that malicious smile of his. The oh so charming flare he gave anyone just by looking at them.
"Don't think to much Mrs. Takada. Your glowing with beauty right now. You should not spoil your appearance. Lighting up a bit, and smile. I'm sure your looking forward to my son's arrival soon. I know he will come for you my dear. He's to predictable." Seur smiled, while running his mouth all the while; waving cheerfully at other passerby. Making others smile; with his charming demeanor as always. Takada tried to smile, to fool others of the danger she was in, but she felt her smile sour, and could not further bring herself to keep it up. Frowning again, only to make the bastard; Seur smile broader at her. Making her hate his company more.
...
As 6:58p.m. rolled in, so did Gevanni approaching his car to the Yagami home.
As Sayu heard the engine outside; she proceeded out the door. Entering the car to follow up with her and Gevanni's plan.
They drove in silence. Approaching the building where Matsuda was being held up at. Where Matt's current residence was at. Once they reached the door that they needed to get to; Gevanni skillfully picked the lock. Entering the apartment, of the red headed gamer. If he was there; he would of came up with something witty and cocky, like; "You had made it far into this Level! Now you must beat me! The King of the castle you broke into!" Matt was always a trip some how.
Once the light was flicked on; Matsuda had turned his head over to the door's direction. Sayu saw how Matsuda was helplessly sitting there against his own will. Tied up. Arms fastened behind him. Legs tied together as well. Matsuda all to well knew the drill. It must of meant he was getting a second serving of food by a complete stranger that was instructed to feed Matsuda; sent by Matt, or Matt himself getting home finally. Sidoh who was hovering in the other room was enjoying the supply of chocolates Mello had left for him to devour to himself. Oh what joy; thought Sidoh. Boxes and boxes of chocolate supplies to himself; true heaven indeed.
Sayu took a long stare at Matsuda, before continuing to walk there; past him as thought he did not exist. Making Gevanni take notice, to look at Sayu with interest. Coming close to Sayu; to be able to whisper to her; he spoke. "Sayu... Are you not thinking of releasing Matsuda?"
"Later..." Was all that escaped Sayu's lips; as she began to look for any signs of death note books. Seeing how there was many secrets now a days surrounding her environment; it was not odd to think that maybe they also to had a note book here. And if they did. Sayu was planning to take it; and dispose of it.
Gevanni was all the while looking out the window for any signs of enemies nearby. Not noticing that Sayu had discovered what she secretly predicted. A death notebook... In a package laying under some pile of assorted video games and DVDs. Taking it quickly into her purse; she came over to Matsuda; slapping him in the process.
"Hey! How dare you sla...!" Matsuda paused as he was left with no blind fold, but to be confronted by to pair of eyes he knew all to well. Sayu's eyes.
"Hey there idiot. Want to come with me? Or stay here? Pick." Sayu said; giving options to the young cop.
"I'll stay!" Matsuda said quite intimidated; responded flat out quick.
"Good answer." Sayu said; placing the blind fold back on his eyes.
Gevanni quickly looked away as Sayu looked his way; and he proceeded to go out the door with her. Not at all saying a word. Leaving a Matsuda back in the dark whimpering a "sorry Sayu!" Mumble. Leaving the poor lad there.
"Why did we leave him there Sayu?" Gevanni quickly asked.
"Because. He deserves more time there. I just realized is all." Sayu had said with a smile in her face. In reality lying; since for now her goal was to eliminate all death notes from her world. Even if it meant hunting all of it down in struggle.
Gevanni started the car, unaware of Sayu's actions. She had plans of her own. For the good of human kind. Humans had no right to kill others. It was wrong. And sadly Light did not follow through as she believed him to. Her big brother was a disappointment, but her father was always a hero in her eyes.
The next morning; Sayu had gotten up early. Taking her daughter back from Rose's home. Thanking her; as she took her Maria home. Laying her to her bed as soon as she got home; Creston followed along. Victory as well, panting cheerfully in a even stride of walking as Sayu. Placing her daughter to sleep. Creston stayed behind with Maria.
"Little one... You have a very kind and earnest mother, just like your Grandfather." Creston had told the sleeping Maria; as she had before in recent past conversations while Sayu was away from England.
Instead of Sayu going back to bed; seeing as it was 3:00a.m. in the morning. Sayu made sure no one was looking; as she dogged deep enough in her backyard. Digging both death notebooks away for good. Still reassuring the shinigami with the red eyes that the notebooks we're still her's, and that she was not giving ownership away. The shinigami stayed in disbelief and anger, but did not argue with Sayu at all. Instead it watched with those red piercing eyes. As she dug away the threats she had taking away. More to come she was sure. As she padded the soil with her small shovel. Smiling to her self in triumph.
End of Chap. 30. Hope your enjoying so far, as it comes to a close soon enough.
