Thank you all for your reviews, it makes writing a lot easier! And a special thank you to sawyerG who gave me some excellent song suggestions! Keep em up :)
They were all gathered back stage, ready for their first concert since hiding. They all had a new look and a new sound. Caroline was currently sat on top of a table which held their microphones and bottles of water, Klaus behind her, massaging out the knots that built in the back of her neck.
Rebekah was fixing Damon's hair before he started swatting her hand away, only able to take so much of the fussing.
"Leave it woman!" Damon huffed, before pulling Rebekah into his embrace and kissing the hell out of her in the hopes of distracting from his hair. It somewhat worked as now, instead of smoothing it back and ruffling it, she was combing her fingers through it and tugging it.
Kol was texting Enzo who wished him luck on his first show and made plans to meet up with him after to celebrate.
Lexi and Stefan were stood opposite each other pulling faces and doing vocal warm ups.
"Please!" Lexi begged, holding her phone.
"I don't like photos Lex." Stefan groaned but complied to his girlfriends need to 'selfie'.
"Thank you! You are my favourite boyfriend!" Lexi giggled when Stefan grunted in response.
"I better be your only boyfriend." He poked her in the side when she didn't respond but swatted his hand away.
"Of course, now stop poking with your finger." Lexi said, grabbing onto his finger which was about to poke into her stomach.
"No, you prefer me poking you with another part of my anatomy better." Stefan teased, pulling her into his embrace when she pouted at him.
"You guys are on. Stefan stop being gross." Katherine ordered as she waddled back stage, teetering unstably on her heels.
"Katerina, please just sit down." Elijah sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Why, because I'm incapable of doing anything else right? It's not my fault I couldn't reach my feet to tie the laces of my boots." Katherine cried, plopping next to Kol who jumped in fright at her sudden proximity.
"Fuck, you scared me Kat!" Kol yelled, grabbing his heart before standing and storming off to the side of the stage where Klaus, Caroline, Stefan and Lexi were stood, waiting to go on.
"LANGUAGE!" Katherine snapped, making a move to stand but falling back into the chair.
"It's still inside you!" Kol said incredulously, looking side to side at Elijah and Katherine who was still struggling to stand.
"What is this chair!" Katherine cried, before sulking and sitting back in it.
"You guys are on in 2 minutes." Jenna announced.
"Wait! Damon your hair!" Rebekah exclaimed, moving to fix it but missing him as he ran off and onto the stage.
"Or you're on now." Jenna sighed before moving to pat Katherine comfortingly on the shoulder and handing her a chocolate bar to cheer her up.
The others made their way onto stage where the crowd were cheering loudly and chanting their names. Caroline stood centre stage which was weird for her and she felt slightly naked without her guitar strapped to her.
"Hey guys, thanks for coming out tonight." Caroline greeted, smiling brightly.
"So we're going to play you a few of the songs that are going to be on our new album and we hope you enjoy them!" Lexi explained, before counting down and starting to play the piano.
It's a pity, it's a crying shame
He pulled you down again
How painful it must be
To bruise so easily inside
Caroline was taking lead vocals for the song. This particular song was one that she had written by herself.
It's a pity, it's a downright crime
It happens all the time
You want to stay your little daddy's girl
You want to hide from a vicious world outside
Don't cry
You know the tears will do no good, so dry your eyes
It was about her emotional turmoil that she went through, she had been through depression before. When Elena died. When Tyler left her. But with the help of Katherine, Lexi and Rebekah she somehow managed to get through it.
Oh, your daddy, he's the iron man
Battleship wrecked on dry land
Your mama, she's a bitter bride, she'll never be satisfied
Do you know? And that's not right
But don't cry
You know the tears will do no good, so dry your eyes
Oh, they told you life is hard, misery from the start
It's dull, it's slow, it's painful
But, I'll tell you life is sweet inspite of the misery
There's so much more to be grateful
Behind her, on the screen, was a video montage of everyone in the band, some from when they were younger, family photos, photos of Elena when she was alive and snuck on tours with them.
Well, who do you believe?
Who will you listen to? Who will it be?
'Cause it's high time that you decide
In your own mind
I've tried to comfort you
I've tried to tell you to be patient
They are blind
And they can't see
Fortune gonna come one day, all gonna fade away
Your daddy, the war machine
And your momma, the long and suffering
Prisioner of what she cannot see
For they told you life is hard, misery from the start
It's dull, it's slow, it's painful
But, I'll tell you life is sweet inspite of the misery
There's so much more, be grateful
Everyone in the room had lifted their phones in the air with their flashlights on, swaying their arms back and forth as everyone on the stage stood behind Caroline with glow sticks and swaying back and forth.
So, who will you believe?
Who will you believe? Who will it be?
Because it's high time that you decide
It's time to make up your own, your own state of mind
Oh, they told you that life is long, be thankful when it's done
Don't ask for more, be grateful
But, I'll tell you life is short be thankful
Because before you know it will be over
'Cause life is sweet
Life is, oh, so very short, life is sweet
And life is, oh, so very short
Life is sweet
And life is sweet
And life is sweet
Once she finished she bowed and the audience boomed, exploding in cheers and shouts of joy. Caroline let out a shaky laugh before turning and being engulfed in Klaus' embrace. Rebekah walked over to Caroline and placed a flower crown on her head and placing a necklace made of flowers on Klaus.
Everyone in the band was adorning one of them, Kol sat in front of his drums on the edge looking out, picking the petals of a rose. Lexi and Stefan were sat on stools close by Kol, each with flower crowns and necklaces. And then there was Damon and Rebekah who were sat at the front of the stage with their legs dangling off the sides.
Caroline got her acoustic guitar finally and started strumming as Klaus sung next to her.
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel free
As he sung flower petals were dropped and blown throughout the hall, colourful petals dropping into the audience and on the stage.
Run away, find you a lover
Go away somewhere all bright and new
I have seen no other
Who compares with you
Damon stood and held out his hand for Rebekah to take, he pulled her onto the stage and swung her in a circle before pulling her into him, swaying them to the music.
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free
Run away, go find a lover
Run away, let your heart be your guide
You deserve the deepest of cover
You belong in that home by and by
Lexi and Stefan joined Damon and Rebekah in dancing. Kol, feeling left out ran to the side of the stage and pulled Alaric on with him, as he was stood by the side watching.
"I told you I'd steal you from Jenna eventually." Kol said cheekily, getting a deep guffaw in response from Alaric who played along and danced with Kol.
You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worry
You belong somewhere you feel free
You belong somewhere you feel free
Similar to the response Caroline got from her first song, everyone cheered and applauded.
"Thank you all so much!" Caroline gushed, before taking a sip of water and handing her guitar to someone off stage.
"So I'm going to take over for a while, hopefully you won't mind too much." Kol drawled, smirking when all the women cheered and swooned.
"I'm not much of a singer but I did write this song and decided to sing it myself. This song encapsulates a lot of problems in the world, one being… well… Being gay. In no way am I trying to offend anyone in doing this song, I just feel like that what's going on recently and with humanity… We could all do with some cleansing." Kol explained.
Lexi was taking over for Kol on the drums whilst he sung. Everyone else was in place with their instruments ready for Kol's nod. Caroline started playing the keys as Kol came in.
My lover's got humour
She's the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody's disapproval
I should've worshipped her sooner
If the Heavens ever did speak
She is the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday's getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
'We were born sick,' you heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me 'worship in the bedroom'
The only heaven I'll be sent to
Is when I'm alone with you
I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well
Amen. Amen. Amen
Rebekah and Stefan came in with the harmonies in the background.
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
Damon and Klaus played their guitars smoothly in the background, emphasising the notes where needed, playing fluidly.
If I'm a pagan of the good times
My lover's the sunlight
To keep the Goddess on my side
She demands a sacrifice
To drain the whole sea
Get something shiny
Something meaty for the main course
That's a fine looking high horse
What you got in the stable?
We've a lot of starving faithful
That looks tasty
That looks plenty
This is hungry work
Elijah stood by the side, pride shining in his eyes, this was the first time Kol had ever showed interest in expressing himself and he couldn't be prouder. Gone was his immature brother and now standing in front of a 1000+ people was a strong, brave man.
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
No masters or kings when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
Only then I am human
Only then I am clean
Amen. Amen. Amen
Kol sang with as much passion as he could, smiling when he heard Damon, Caroline and Klaus come in with their humming, adding to the dramatics of the piece.
Good God, let me give you my life
Once he was finished Kol had his eyes closed and his hands in front of him in a prayer pose. When he opened them he gave the audience a wide grin and spun around to look at the band and was surprised to find them all standing there in the same pose he had been in.
"Now it's our turn, although after that song Kol, I'm not sure how well we'll do." Rebekah teased before throwing him a smile.
"I would love to stand here and take credit for this song." Damon smirked, chuckling at the screams and marriage proposals people were throwing at him.
"However, it was my brother dear who wrote this song for me and Rebekah and I am all for giving credit where credit is due." Damon drawled, clapping Stefan on the shoulder.
"You're only saying that so if they hate it it'll be my fault." Stefan jeered before letting out a laugh.
"Maybe." Damon sing songed before shouting 'hit it'. Rebekah let out the first note of the song and everyone was enchanted and in a trance.
Another day has almost come and gone
Can't imagine what else could go wrong
Sometimes I'd like to hide away somewhere and lock the door
A single battle lost but not the war
'Cause, tomorrow's another day
And I'm thirsty anyway
So bring on the rain
Small bits of silver confetti fell down from the roof, floating down and mimicking rain. The screen had a scene of a window with rain falling down it.
It's almost like the hard times circle 'round
A couple drops and they all start coming down
Yeah, I might feel defeated and I might hang my head
I might be barely breathing but I'm not dead, no
'Cause, tomorrow's another day
And I'm thirsty anyway
So bring on the rain, ooh
I'm not gonna let it get me down
I'm not gonna cry
And I'm not gonna lose any sleep tonight
'Cause, tomorrow's another day
And I am not afraid
So bring on the
Damon stood behind Rebekah with his arms wrapped around her waist, swaying back and forth with her in his arms. He let her go when he came in but held firmly on to her hand, singing to her. Rebekah looked up at him and couldn't help the blush that rose to her cheeks when she saw the love that Damon held in his eyes when he looked at her.
Tomorrow's another day
And I'm thirsty anyway
So bring on the rain, ooh
Bring on, bring on the rain
No I'm not gonna let it get me down
I'm not gonna cry
So bring on the rain, ooh
Bring on, bring on the rain
Bring on the rain
Bring on the rain, ooh
By now the crowd were in a frenzy, all going crazy over their new songs. It was also clear to them that this was them fighting back against everything negative said about any member of the band. It was a big fat musical 'FUCK YOU'. And they loved it.
"Thank you for coming out tonight! We hope you have a fantastic rest of your year!" Stefan announced before they all left the stage, leaving the crowd behind.
"That was amazing you guys! I loved it. Didn't you just love it Elijah?" Katherine cried, tears and snot running down her face, as she finally managed to stand up and embraced an unsuspecting Klaus who uncomfortably patted her back.
"Yes darling, it was captivating." Elijah agreed, patting Stefan on the back and giving Caroline a quick hug.
"I am beat. God. I forgot how tiring performing was." Damon said as he wrapped Rebekah into his embrace.
"I'm ready for bed." Rebekah agreed, letting out a small yawn before burrowing her head into the crook of Damon's neck.
"Well tomorrows another day." Jenna announced happily.
"So bring on the rain." Caroline finished the lyric before looking up at Klaus and smiling.
"It sure is, love." Klaus agreed, placing a gentle kiss on her lips.
