Logan's Plans

A few weeks later Dick is finished physical therapy and is almost back to his old self. The long scar down the middle of his chest and the scar on the left side of his chest where the bullet hit him are still red and visible. They are stark reminders of how close he came to death.

Logan sees him almost every day. During one visit, the conversation turns to the man who shot him. In an uncharacteristically humble tone, Dick talks about how until he raised the gun, he looked like a total geek. When Logan told him that the circumstances influencing the shooter, Dick looked upset and commented, "He really wanted me dead."

Shaking his head Logan said, "You had nothing to do with the cancer that killed his son or his marriage problems. I don't care if he is a freaking priest, the answer to your anger is not to shoot someone. He is not a good guy!"

Dick is relieved that Logan is definitely angry at the man who shot him and wants him to go to prison. Dick admits quietly, "It scared me when he pointed the gun at me. He looked deranged."

Sucking a breath in Logan ventures, "I am so glad that your security team stopped him before he could get any more shots off."

"Me too, Dude!" the blonde haired man agrees.

Quiet for a few seconds, Logan meets Dick's gaze and asks, "Dick, do you think you might need to see someone to talk about what happened?"

Although Dick doesn't really want to see a shrink, he is actually touched at Logan's concern for him. They have been best friends for years and he knows Logan cares about him. Dick immediately answers, "No dude, I don't want to see another doctor."

Logan smiles a little and has to admit if he were Dick, he wouldn't want to go to another doctor's appointment. He points out, "You almost died. You might need to see someone. We'll keep it in mind." There is silence as the two men restart the video game. At the next break Logan ventures, "Dick, have there been a lot of threats made against you?"

Shrugging the young man comments, "A few."

Questioning Logan says, "You didn't think Casey or I should know?"

"They were after me," Dick tells his best friend.

Nodding his agreement Logan points out, "What if one of us was with you when one of your many fans attempted to kill you?" It is clear from the expression on his face that Dick never thought of that. Sighing Logan shares, "Look, this school principal may not be the only person who wants you dead." They are both quiet for a few seconds as they think. Logan shares, "Veronica has been keeping track of the guys you helped put in prison to see if they are in contact with anyone on the outside who might kill you for them." Dick looks upset at the idea. Logan presses a little, "Ronnie is worried enough to keep track of their contacts."

Shaking his head Dick admits, "I guess I never thought of them trying to kill me. They are mostly business majors."

"You helped put them in prison, " Logan points out. He sees that Dick is thinking about it. Logan takes a sip of beer and continues, "I know that in your deal with the DA, you can leave the country if you give the proper notice. I was thinking that once your rehab is over, you should take a vacation overseas."

Frowning Dick complains, "I want to be here in LA for the summer. I like to surf with you guys."

"Dude, we want you here too but your shooting stirred the pot; there have been a lot of articles about how you shouldn't be free when you were part of the group that took all the money. There is some pressure on the DA about giving you the deal in the first place."

Upset Dick defends, "I had to give all that money back plus pay a fine."

Shaking his head Logan intercedes before Dick can get more upset, "I get it. It's just that there will be more press coverage when this guy goes to trial." He looks at his friend and points out, "Most of the press coverage goes away if you aren't around LA. Maybe if you are gone for a couple of months, the press will move on to the next big story." He sees Dick is still resistant so he tries, "Look I don't want to have to see you in the ICU again. " His voice warbles a little and Dick sees his friend's emotions. There is a short silence and Logan explains, "I was thinking that you and John could hit the beaches in Australia for a couple of months."

Dick frowns at Logan but says, "I'll think about it." He knows that Logan is only thinking about what is best for him.

Smirking Logan adds, "Hot babes, bitching waves... what is not to like?" He finishes, "When you come back here you will hit the peak of surfing season." He can see his friend is thinking about it.

Bringing up one last issue on this topic, Logan adds, "When the press asks you questions, a no comment would be better. Don't give the hounds any ammunition so to speak."

Dick frowns at his best friend's reminder that he got shot. Logan lets the conversation go. He has made his points to his friend. Now it is up to Dick to think about what they have talked about. Besides, he has already talked to the guys from Neptune. They are all on board. He hopes that they will all help him persuade Dick to get out of LA at least until the trial.

A few days later, Logan comes out of a meeting to find the head of his security team waiting by his office. He greets him and waves him into his office. Logan listens to the weekly update on security on the mansion and Veronica. In addition to the normal updates, his security chief tells him they have found Lianne Mars. Saddened, he listens to how Veronica's mother is still drinking and has difficulty holding jobs. He looks at the picture and shakes his head. She is a ghost of her old self; she has lost weight, her beautiful blonde hair looks brittle and her skin is a ruddy color. Logan sighs in disappointment. He is not surprised to learn that she gets money on a regular basis from Jake Kane. Way to make sure that she doesn't hit bottom Mr. Kane!

After some thought, Logan opens his phone and depresses a button. When his call is answered, he greets, "Hello, Mr. Mars." He asks about how the family is doing and tells Veronica's father that he and Veronica are fine. After a short pause, he asks, "Would you happen to have time to talk to me today?" After a brief pause he smiles and then clarifies, "No, I know we are talking now but I wanted to see you in person. I was hoping to come and see you today if you had time." Smiling Logan agrees, "3 o'clock is good."

The busy young man spends his hour long trip to Neptune on the phone. He has a lot of arrangements to make for his and Veronica's next date weekend and of course, he has a lot of calls to return. When he arrives at Keith's office, he is immediately let in.

He shakes Veronica's father's hand and sits across from him at his desk that is overfilled with papers and files. Starting the conversation he says, "Thanks for seeing me. I know you are very busy."

Keith looks at the man he has known for years and mildly tells him, "I always have time for you." He adds, "You would have talked to me on the phone if it wasn't important."

Logan has to smile. Veronica is so like her father. They both are quick thinking and know how to analyze a situation. Leaning back Logan tells his hopefully future father-in-law, "I actually have two things I need to talk to you about."

Keith meets his gaze and waves his hand, "Go ahead, I'm listening."

Pulling the file on Lianne Mars he brought, he slides it across the desk toward Keith as he talks, "I had my security team find and check out Veronica's mother."

Looking shocked, Keith looks at the closed file and then at Veronica's boyfriend. He asks, "Why would you do that?"

Thinking for a second how to word what he wants to say, Logan finally explains, "Security checks out everyone who could potentially be in contact with her." He carries on when he sees that Keith does understand, "The fact is, she is Veronica's mother and I think Veronica needs to deal with their relationship or lack of relationship."

Frowning Keith points out, "Veronica can easily find her mother if she wants to." Pausing he adds, "For that matter, I would have found her if I felt she wanted to see her."

Nodding his agreement Logan argues, "I get that but her mother leaving her affected her profoundly." He points out, "Since her mother left, she has learned who killed Lilly and she has found out who her biological father is. I think we have dealt with all the fallout after Lilly died; all except Mrs. Mars' leaving." Keith nods but doesn't interrupt Logan's thought process. Logan continues, "I think that in order to move on with her life as a wife and mother some day, she has to face her issues with her mother."

Listening closely, Keith questions, "As a wife and mother?"

Meeting the sharp blue gaze, Logan answers the question that Keith is asking, "That's the second reason I came to see you." He unconsciously takes a deep breath and tells him, "I am going to ask Veronica to marry me. I would like your blessing."

Keith can't hold the smile back even though he is a little surprised. He says, "You have my blessing Logan. I can see you love her and I know you have been good together." He pauses and looks at Logan and adds what he needs him to know, "I would be proud to have you as a son in law."

Logan's smile lights up his face and eyes. He is humbled that this good man would welcome him into the family. Keith sees Logan's happiness and he is touched that this young man would ask for his approval. Frowning a little as he thinks about Logan's statement about Veronica becoming a mother, he questions, "Is Veronica pregnant?"

Immediately Logan shakes his head and answers, "No, I am talking about the possible future not now." He takes a second to gather his thoughts and shares, "After my childhood, I never thought I would have children but now being with Veronica..." He stops and then finally finishes, "Our relationship has come a long way this time." He shrugs, "Who knows what the future holds?"

Relieved, Keith agrees, "You two have worked out a lot of your problems. You are doing well together." He adds honestly, "I would like to see you spend some more time together as a couple before you bring a child into your lives."

He can see Logan agrees. The young man admits, "If it were only to be Veronica and me for the rest of our lives, that would be enough." Logan adds, "If we ever decide to have a child or children well then I guess that would be even more than I ever hoped."

Keith feels a pull in his chest. It is wondrous to hear how emotionally open this young man is to love despite his abusive upbringing. All Keith ever wanted for Veronica was a man who truly loves her and looks after her. She has that in Logan. He really can't ask for more for her.

After a short pause, Keith opens the file in front of him and looks at the information Logan's security team has gathered. He frowns as he reads that his ex-wife is still drinking and still takes money from Jake Kane. He looks up at Logan and asks, "Why do you think it is important for Veronica to see Lianne like this?" He waves his hand to the most recent photo of her.

Logan leans forward and looks at the man who he can see is still protective of her. He earnestly tells him, "I don't think that letting things fester is good for anyone but I think Veronica fears that she will be a bad wife and mother. I think she has to see that what has happened was her mother's choices and that she can make different ones." Pausing he adds, "Besides Lianne is her mother and there is no point cutting her out. I think she needs to give Lianne the opportunity to be in her life even if it is in a small way and not the way Veronica would like or need." Finishing he meets Keith's gaze and says, "She needs to know that she did everything possible to help her mother. She shouldn't have regrets."

After a long pause Keith points out, "Lianne brings a lot of poison and negativity with her. Are you prepared for that?"

Leaning back in his chair, Logan shares, "I have come to realize that I may never be close to Trina. I give her the opportunity to be a part of our lives and she, so far, has chosen not to get to know us." Meeting his gaze he finishes, "I just don't want it to be my choice that we are not closer."

The PI takes a deep breath and lets it out as he thinks. Finally he tells the young man sitting across from him, "I see what you mean." He warns, "Veronica may not agree though."

Grimacing a little, Logan tells him, "I know but I am her friend as well as her boyfriend. I don't want her to have regrets." He adds, "I think she will be upset but I believe we will be able to talk about it and work it out together."

Keith looks at the young man who has really impressed him today and he says, "I will definitely back you up on this Logan." His intercom buzzes that his next appointment is waiting. Keith stands and says, "I know you love her and are doing what you believe is best for her." Logan stands as well. Keith walks over and looks at the young man who he hopes will be his son-in-law one day. He asks, "So when are you going to propose?"

Logan meets Keith's gaze and shares, "I think on our weekend in San Diego next month."

To Logan's surprise, Keith hugs him and says, "I will cross my fingers for you."

"I will need it," Logan admits. Keith gives his shoulder one last pat and then passes him back the file on Lianne. The two men say their goodbyes and Logan heads out to his car for the ride home pleased with how the conversation went. Keith, who knows Veronica and Lianne better than anyone, agrees with his plan to contact Veronica's mother and most importantly, has given him his blessing to ask Veronica to marry him. It was a fruitful trip.

A month later Veronica comes home from work to find that Logan is packing a suitcase for her. She looks at him and questions, "Are we going somewhere?"

He walks over and hugs her merely stating, "You know it's my turn to plan our date weekend."

A little disgruntled, she complains, "What if I had plans this weekend?"

He smiles knowing she is tired and is still uncomfortable when he plans their time away because he tends to be more extravagant when he makes plans. She has known about this weekend for a while so he prods gently, "Go and change into something comfortable. The car is waiting for us." He has been busy with Dick's recovery and has put off asking her to marry him long enough. It is time to get moving towards their wedding. He wants to be married to her more than anything. First though she deserves a romantic proposal.

When Veronica is done getting dressed, she helps Logan finish her packing. She sees that he has packed them both some more dressy clothes so she assumes that he is going to take her somewhere more upscale. Although she is a little put out at having to travel this weekend, she knows that it is part of their agreement. He goes where she plans without complaint and at times she has taken him out of his comfort zone. Now he is only asking her to return the favor. She notices which dress he packed for her and is pleased. He really likes to see her dressed up and he has been very complimentary of the dresses she has ordered from Jessica and Theresa. Since she and Mac found the place, Veronica has been back quite a few times looking for dresses for special occasions as well as every day clothes. This particular dress is a short dark navy dress with spaghetti straps and is cut straight across at the top of her breasts. It is the pleating across her abdomen that makes the dress special. It makes her waist and hips look tiny and shows off her curves. The tiny beading makes the dress sparkle when she moves. It is a version of the sexy black dress. She wore it out to a function for the board members of Logan's foundation and Logan absolutely loved the dress. She wore matching pumps and had her hair up showing off her bare shoulders.

When Veronica is ready, Logan escorts her to the car and they both settle in for the ride. As they drive he sits close and turns to face her as they talk. He can see she is a little put out at having to get ready and then travel tonight. She is clearly tired from her long week and was looking forward to relaxing probably in front of the television tonight. He deliberately takes her hand, getting her attention. He admits that he really looks forward to their date weekends. It just seems they are both busy at work and he misses spending relaxing time with her where they are just alone with no one else in their thoughts but each other. Meeting her gaze he adds, "You are the most important person in my life and I want to make sure that I show you that as well as tell you."

She is touched at his earnest desire to work on them and gently squeezes his hand in response, "I know you're right. We need to have special time for us."

Logan smiles at her and teases, "I enjoyed the camping trip you planned even though I missed my internet and room service."

Veronica returns his smile easily and has to agree. She won the bet at the race track and took Logan camping in a tent. He had looked a little horrified when she told him where they were going, but had gamely joined in the spirit of spending time together communing with nature. It had been a beautiful weekend and he had to admit that he enjoyed sitting by the fire with her and had really enjoyed looking at the stars without the interference of the lights of the city. They had gone to a lecture on the native wildlife the first night and then they cooked hot dogs and then smores on the campfire. Saturday morning they had breakfast and then went on a long hike. They both enjoyed the physical activity and the time spent together. They actually saw some of the animals that they learned about the night before. Logan, never having spent time camping, actually found that he enjoyed the anonymity that camping afforded them, as well as the peacefulness of time spent away from the city. He could actually see spending time camping every year especially if they had children. There is a lot to learn out in nature and although it is different than surfing, there is the same feeling of being one with the universe. She teases back, "I am guessing that we will not be spending a lot of time in the great outdoors this weekend?"

"No," he agrees easily, "this weekend is all about pampering." Seeing her frown, he inwardly smiles knowing that she was never the spa type girl. This weekend though, he is going to show her what 5 star pampering is like.

The rest of the drive is taken up with a discussion between them on how their week went and their plans for next week. Veronica listens as Logan talks about the possibility of writing a book. She is surprised, not that he isn't capable of writing a novel, but that he is even interested in writing a book; he has mostly been writing screen plays so far. He tells her that he is not sure that he could write a book and is worried about how much time he would have to devote to something he doesn't even know if he could do. He tells her he talked to his agent and "Eric says that most publishing companies will not be enthusiastic about me writing a book unless it is a tell all about my childhood."

Indignantly she tells him, "You are an excellent writer and your book will be quick witted and well written." She adds, "The publishing companies will all want to publish it."

He smiles and explains, "He thinks I should do it if I want but he just wants me to be aware of what the publishers might say."

A little mollified she tells him, "Well as you have said many times, we don't need the money so you should do what makes you happy."

Smiling he kisses her touched that she is so quick to defend him and it is obvious that she believes in his writing. He shares, "I am just thinking about it right now. I may just write an overview and then see what Casey thinks."

Nodding her agreement she says, "That is a great idea!" Snuggling closer she encourages, "Tell me about the plot and the characters." Pleased she is interested he hugs her closer and starts to talk about his idea for the novel and the main characters. He hasn't told anyone else besides his agent about his desire to write a novel. He knew that Veronica would understand and support him. He has never had someone who is so there for him before and he has to admit, he absolutely loves it.

When they arrive at their destination, the car drives up to the front door of the resort. Both Logan and Veronica are impressed. It is a newer complex built in the Spanish mission type architecture. There is a stunning view of the ocean as you drive up.

Logan assists Veronica out and he walks with her into the hotel knowing that their driver will give their luggage to the bell hop. At the desk Logan is immediately recognized and they are given two room keys. The young man at the desk assures Logan that they are booked at the restaurant for dinner that evening and the spa the next day. Logan smiles pleased at how well organized everything is and he signs the forms the desk clerk hands him.

Quickly and efficiently the clerk makes sure everything is in order and their luggage is wheeled behind them as they walk towards the elevator holding hands. The impressed young couple looks around the lobby with interest. This is a very luxurious hotel that screams exclusivity. Logan is pleased at how the hotel looks so far. He has booked a suite that overlooks the ocean and if all goes well, this is going to be a fantastic weekend.

In the elevator, Veronica is surprised when the bell hop does not push the button for one of the top floors. Logan sees that she is looking at the lower number the bell hop pushed and leans in to tell her, "This resort has themed suites. I picked a special theme for this weekend."

"It's not western, is it?" she teases quietly.

Laughing, he assures her, "It's not a costume type weekend but thanks for putting the idea in my head."

Pretending to be afraid she leans into him and he wraps his arm around her escorting her off the elevator. She sees how happy Logan is to be spoiling her and decides not to ruin his fun. He was great while camping; even though it wasn't something he wanted to do, he joined in and prepared to enjoy the experience. Veronica felt she should do the same.

After the bell boy opens the door, Veronica enters and looks around the obviously luxurious suite. It is absolutely stunning! While Logan deals with the bell hop and their luggage, she walks around the spacious suite. There is a huge sitting room with a large screened TV that is hidden away over a magnificent fireplace, an area with a dining table by the window and another more romantic area with a small table for dining on a covered balcony. Off to the right is the bedroom with a huge wonderfully decadent looking bed with a multitude of pillows and a white lace curtain surrounding it. There is a huge deck outside the bedroom with lounge chairs and a hot tub that overlooks a rocky shoreline with what looks like a private beach that they could walk down to and enjoy. It is the most beautiful suite she has ever been in and the views from the floor to ceiling windows are stunning all the way around the suite. This suite is even bigger than the presidential suite Logan used to live in. Veronica turns to look at Logan and comments, "It is beautiful Logan."

He looks around in satisfaction as he walks over to where she is looking out the bedroom window. He agrees, "It's great!"

She wraps her arms around him and asks, "What is first? Checking out the great hot tub on the deck, going for a walk on the beach," she pauses and adds suggestively, "or perhaps checking to see how comfortable the bed is?"

Very pleased that she is open to enjoying this weekend and what the resort has to offer he shares, "I booked us dinner in an hour. The chef here is renowned and there is a band so I thought we could dance after dinner." He adds, "I am very open to checking out the hot tub and the bed afterwards though."

She smiles happy to be having a great evening with her man. She suggests, "I would love to try out that massive shower. " Flirting she tells him, "I might need your help learning how to adjust the shower heads."

His smile grows and he agrees, "I would be happy to help you. I'll even wash your back."

Laughing she teases, "I thought I might have to order that from room service."

He responds by pulling her close and answering, "You don't have to call down for that. I am the best back washer."

Meeting his gaze she tells him smartly, "OK but if you aren't what you advertise, I won't hesitate to call down."

He smirks at her mock wealthy attitude and retorts, "Oh I am confident you won't be disappointed."

She pulls out of his arms and turns towards the bathroom. Tossing her head she says arrogantly, "See that I am not." She heads into the opulent bathroom eager to try some of the shower gels, shampoos and soaps that she noticed in the basket when she looked around.

He laughs at her attitude and happily follows her into the massive bathroom. He is also eager to enjoy the perks of the multi jetted shower. He turns on the water and adjusts the temperature while she looks through the basket of soaps, lotions and shower gels. While he undresses, she notices the huge fluffy towels and the two bathrobes hanging by the shower door.

Logan noticing her gaze says, "I ordered you an extra small robe but I still think it might be too large." She starts to undress, just beginning to realize how much she is going to be spoiled this weekend. She steps into the shower ahead of Logan and immediately sighs in pleasure at the feel of the pulsating water on her skin. Squeezing out some of the shower gel she had chosen, Logan turns her around and starts to rub the gel on her back making sure that she is in an area of the shower where she is feeling water from the pulsating jets on her front. He feels her relax as his warm hands on her back and the warm water on her front do their magic.

He is pleased when she turns and takes the gel from him squirting some into her hand. She begins to soap up his chest and he smiles happy to be in such an open, loving relationship.

When Veronica is sitting at the vanity doing her makeup, Logan suggests, "Ronnie, please leave your hair down tonight." She looks at him in the mirror in obvious question. He shrugs and says, "I like your hair no matter how you wear it but tonight, I just want to see it down."

She smiles as she knows he loves run his hands through it when they sit together. She says, "I won't have time to curl it though." She adds a little suggestively, "Someone wanted a long shower."

He returns her smile and shares, "I really like it straight. Tonight, please just wear it down."

Puzzled, but willing to cater to him a little, she puts the clip she was going to use to hold her hair up aside and turns her attention back to finishing her makeup. What Veronica doesn't understand is that Logan is feeling nostalgic tonight. This weekend he is thinking about their past and present. He is hoping to become engaged and take the next step in their future relationship. She looks younger with her hair down and it fits in with his mood tonight.

A few minutes later, he escorts her down to the main floor where the restaurant is located. Of course he is recognized, but in any case, they have a reservation and are escorted to a table by the window overlooking the ocean. After seating Veronica and then himself, Logan takes a few seconds to admire the view and then he looks back at his girlfriend who is looking around the restaurant curiously. Everyone is dressed up and the waiters and waitresses are also in formal clothing. The table has fresh flowers, candles, crystal and beautiful silverware. It looks gorgeous!

Veronica looks over at Logan admiring how handsome and polished he looks in a suit. Tonight he is wearing a navy suit with a yellow shirt. The tie pulls the colors in his suit and shirt together perfectly and his expensive watch and cuff links just add to the look. When the waiter comes with the wine Logan ordered, he pours a small amount in Logan's class for him to taste. When Logan approves, he pours them both a small glass leaving the bottle in the ice bucket beside their table.

Logan looks at Veronica and recommends, "I hear that Chef Dominic is famous for his Grilled Leg of Lamb."

She looks at Logan and has to smile. He planned this whole weekend for them. How many women have men that give such thought and attention to their relationship. She is so very lucky. Quietly she says, "You order for us."

A look of surprise crosses his face and then he looks over to tell the waiter their order. When they are alone again, he tells her she is in for a treat as this restaurant is famous for its dessert menu. She smiles and says, "The view is wonderful."

He smirks and agrees, "It is beautiful!" He doesn't look away from her.

Meeting his gaze she is touched and smiles happily at him. She reaches across the table and puts her hand over his on the table. He immediately turns his hand taking her tiny hand in his larger one. She says, "Thank you so much for bringing me here. It is wonderful!"

Logan gently squeezes her hand and tells her, "It is better because you are here with me."

She lifts her glass and toasts, "To being anywhere together."

Smiling he lifts his glass and gently touches hers and adds, "To being in love."

She takes a sip and savors the flavor of the expensive wine.

The waiter returns with their first course and the conversation turns general throughout the delicious and filling meal. Veronica takes a bite of her lamb and moans in delight. She says, "Logan it is so good!"

He smiles as he watches her eat. Sometimes she makes spoiling her difficult but tonight she has not said a negative word about being brought to a resort and spa. In fact, she has been very agreeable to all his plans. He is so excited about tomorrow. He hopes everything goes well and it is a day she will always remember. She really deserves a special engagement memory.

Logan did not lie when he told her that this restaurant was known for their desserts. Logan ordered her the Crème Brulée and it was fantastic. After it was over and they were pleasantly full, Logan escorted her to Starlight Hall and they found a table near the dance floor. The band was very good and the young couple enjoyed watching other couples dance and of course, dancing together.

When they get back up to their room, Logan suggests they sit in the hot tub and drink some more wine, eat the chocolates he ordered and look at the stars. Veronica is definitely game and goes to head to the closet to get her bathing suit. Logan reaches out catching her wrist and pulling her into his body. He says quietly, "It is a private deck Veronica. No one can see us."

She looks at him in surprise and then smiles. Slowly she steps back and reaches up to pull down one strap on of her dress down. She pulls the other stap down and then slowly reaches back keeping her boyfriend's gaze as she lowers the zipper. Holding the dress to her breasts she turns a half turn so he gets a good view of her deliberately letting go of the dress allowing it to fall in a pool at her feet. She turns her back completely and reaches back to undo her strapless bra letting it fall to her feet as well. She slides her hand down her hips and achingly slowly pushes her panties down her legs.

She is thrilled by the dark look her man is giving her as he watches her undress. He steps up behind her and pulls her back into his arms sliding one arm around her middle and caressing her abdomen while the other hand pushes her hair to the side and he leans down to kiss her neck.

His tiny girlfriend leans into him obviously enjoying and wanting his touch. He loves the softness of her skin and how responsive she is.
