Chapter 10: And Then Reality Hits You

As the weather starts to change from warm to hot and the days become longer than usual, your expectations of what it is next come grow bigger. In a blink of an eye girls change dark denim for flowy skirts and flirty light-weight cotton dresses, boots find a new home in the back of the closet and sandals adorn the pedicured feet of every female. Everyone replace their hot chocolate and mocaccinos for iced tea and frappuccinos; because summer is just around the corner.

But before you get too excited with the idea of spending a lazy day getting tanned at the beach, let me remind you of something; there is one thing you need to do before you can enjoy the benefits that a long relaxing summer of freedom brings you. It's the most terrifying torture, the most stressful week of the semester, every student's nightmare. Yes, you are right, final exams.

You would think Spencer would be one of those students who get overly stressed with final exams, even when she knows she doesn't need those extra 5 hours of studying; and well, she normally is that kind of student, but not this semester. In fact, finals are the last thing on her mind right now because for once, life gave her something more important than academics to worry about; a baby and two possible daddies.

Deciding to take up on Aria's advice, Spencer scheduled a doctor's appointment on Tuesday, the only day of the week that she didn't have an exam. It was the smartest thing to do, knowing how long she had been pregnant before telling her fiancé something she would regret later. So there she was, sitting in the waiting room accompanied by her dark haired tiny friend doing what she hated the most, waiting.

"Not that I don't want to be here with you," Aria started," but if you live in Philly, why you made an appointment here in Rosewood?"

It was a random thing to ask and the answer was so obvious that Spencer couldn't help to roll her eyes and glare with annoyance. "Wren is a doctor, Aria." She took a magazine from the table in front of her and passed the pages without even looking at it. "He knows people in every Hospital in Philly; it was safer to come to Rosewood." Her voice sounded raspier than usual

Aria noticed the irritation in Spencer's voice but decided not to comment about it. "Sorry." The small girl apologized and kept reading one of the baby magazines she had picked up from the coffee table.

"No, I'm sorry." Spencer breathed, leaving her magazine aside. "I should be nicer to you. I'm just very nervous and scare." The tall brunette said sincerely.

"Spence…" Aria held both of Spencer's hands between hers. "It's ok for you to feel that way and I know you are tired of hearing this but you are going to get through this." She squeezed her friend's hands a little in a way of showing her support. "Just try to relax, ok? You are going to know what to do as soon as we leave this hospital."

"That's if Dr. Wagner tells me what I want to hear." Spencer muttered mostly to herself, but Aria heard.

"And what's the answer you want to hear?" Aria's eyes grew with curiosity.

The answer she wanted. What was what she wanted to hear? Truthfully, Spencer had no idea what she wanted to hear. She had thought a lot about Hanna's question from the other day, if she could chose between Toby and Wren to be father who would it be; and she no idea. Wren would be the easiest option, he was her fiancé after all, but she couldn't help but smile whenever she pictured Toby holding a baby.

"O.M.G!" a ringing voice that neither of them had heard in years took Spencer out of her thoughts and left Aria's question unanswered.

"Mona?" Spencer couldn't mask the shock from what she was seeing. Mona Vanderwall was the nerdy girl that had always followed them when they were kids, desperate to join their little group of friends but always being rejected and bullied by Alison, their old Queen Bee. She looked so different now, her teeth weren't crooked anymore, she wasn't wearing bottle bottom kind of like glassed and her clothes didn't look like they were picked up by blind nun. No, Mona Wanderwall looked like Goddess now, her white smile illuminated the entire room, her black eyes were deep and hypnotizing and her clothes looked out of a Channel catalogue. As if it wasn't big enough of a change, she was showing little cute baby bump.

"Same old me...just better" She smiled. "What are you doing here? Is any of you pregnant too?" Mona asked questions like they had been friends forever making Aria and Spencer uncomfortable.

The two best friends exchanged glances and Aria quickly spoke up. " I might be pregnant, but I'm not sure…Spencer is just coming with me because I haven't told my boyfriend yet." Spencer let out a sight of relive.

"Aww. I'm sure that if you are pregnant Jason would be very happy." Mona rubbed her belly as she talked, never taking away the big smile of her face. "What a beautiful ring, Spencer." She said noticing the huge diamond in Spencer's finger. "I'm happy Toby proposed to you. I always knew you two were meant to be together, it's so good that you cheated on that old doctor with him."

Spencer almost choked with that last statement from Mona. She said what? "Excuse me?" The tall brunette raised a brow. "What did you just say?"

The sweet innocent smile in Mona's face changed into a machiavelic one. "Did I say something wrong, Spence?" but before Spencer or Aria could say something else she walked away leaving only the echo of a giggle behind her.

"What the fuck was that?" Aria had finally managed to talk. "How does she know about you and Toby? How does she even know I'm dating Jason? We started to see each other a year after she left Rosewood Day."

"You know she didn't just left school, right? She was taken to a mental hospital." Spencer declared, sharing a secret she had been keeping for years.

"Wh -Why?" Aria's eyes grew with curiosity. She always thought there was something off with Mona, but a mental problem never crossed her mind. "How do you know that?"

"Remember when Wren worked at Radley for a few months when we were finishing our Junior Year?" Aria nodded and Spencer continued "He told me Mona's parents found her one night in her old tree house wearing all black and listening to Satan on the radio, she had hundreds of pictures of a group of girls, like she was following them; and there also dolls dressed like the girls and hateful messages written in red. It was really creepy, so her parents got scared and made her see a psychiatrist and she was diagnosed with Adrenalized Hyperreality and was taken there."

The petite brunette was frozen; just picturing the scene Spencer was describing gave her goosebumps. "You are shitting me, right?"

"Nope." Spencer answered simply.

"You think…?"

"We are those girls she was stalking?" Spencer finished Aria's sentence and the little woman nodded. "It crossed my mind a few times; we weren't exactly nice to her or her friend Jenna."

The two girls remained silent for a couple minutes, thinking about the possibility of being the ones Mona stalked and wanted to terrorize. Just thought of it made them chill and imagine how huge of a mess it would have been, made Spencer regret ever bullying Mona.

"Hastings, Spencer!" a nurse yelled from the other side of the waiting room, making Spencer come back to reality, to her actual problems and not the one she luckily avoided years ago.

She felt a rush of fear and adrenaline go through her body as she stood up and walked to the doctor's office with Aria by her side. It was the moment of truth and it was scary as fuck.

Later that night, Spencer lay in her bed staring at the sonogram picture that was given to her earlier that day. She stared at the picture closely; she couldn't believe that such a tiny bean would take the form of a little person; someone that one day would call her "mommy" and that she would love with all her heart. Gosh! She already did. Even though, the doctor had confirmed that she was 5 weeks pregnant and only God knew who the father of her child was, the brunette couldn't stop smiling at the sight of her little jelly bean in the picture; she couldn't believe how the most complicated situation she had to face so far in her life was the happiest thing that had ever happened to her. Except from the fact that she had to break the news to Wren, and just the thought of that made her feel like crying again.

As the brunette got lost in her thoughts of her baby and the two daddies, she felt her phone vibrate; it was a text from Aria and just reading at it made her morning sickness come back in the middle of the afternoon.

"Bad news, Jason knows everything, get ready for a lecture from your older brother – A." the text from her tiny friend said. It annoyed Spencer that Aria would have told him, of course Jason was going to lecture her, he always did when she did something stupid. The tall woman took a deep breath and before accusing her friend she decided it was best to ask her how Jason knew. In a matter of seconds Aria was telling her everything in a huge text.

"He ran into stupid Mona, bitch congratulated him for the baby. When I got home he started to ask so many questions about how it did happen if we agreed on not having babies for a while and I was on the pill. He was nervous and upset. I'm sorry, I had to tell him it was you. Before you kill me, I've only told him about the baby but he already knew about Toby… guys talk, did you know guys talk?"

Spencer was shocked by what she was reading, Why on earth did Toby had to tell Jason? Hasn't she told him that it was a secret? Lots of feelings invaded her, she was angry at Toby for telling what happened to his friends, but she had done the same so she couldn't hold it against him. She was scared Wren would find out about cheating and it was scarier that he finds out from someone it was her. She was feeling as a failure again, the pregnant girl felt that she was failing at motherhood and her baby wasn't even born yet.

A tear rolled down her cheek and within seconds she found herself running to her bathroom and emptying the contents of her stomach. It took her a while to recompose herself, she even cried a few minutes after vomiting looking at her reflection in the mirror. She was such a mess, a complete full mess and it was all her fault. Spencer left the bathroom when she felt ready to do it, she had decided to tell Wren the truth that night, now she only how to figure out how. Little she know, that her fiancé had gotten home early and was waiting for her to come out of the bathroom.

"Is.. is this…" The doctor was holding the sonogram picture Spencer had left in her bed moments before. It was hard for Wren to form words, he couldn't remember being so excited about anything in his life. Sure, he would have preferred to wait until they were actually married, but a baby was all he ever wanted. "Are you…are we having a baby? This is so amazing!" He ran to Spencer and pulled her into a hug, it was so hard for him to hide his excitement and it only broke Spencer's heart even more.

"It's now or never" The brunette woman thought, taking a deep breath and holding back her tears she stepped away from Wren. "There is something I have to tell you."

The look on her face was so serious and she looked so pale, it scared the shit out of Wren. The man held his fiancés hands as he sat at the end of the bed. "It's everything ok with the baby?" he managed to say, trying not to assume the worst. If he only knew..

"The baby it's fine, it's just…" the loud vibration of her iphone interrupted her, Spencer glanced at the objet and noticed it was her sister calling. Melissa only called when something important had happened or when she needed something from her younger sister, Spencer was sure that ignore her sister's call was something she was going to regret later but she couldn't let this moment pass, so she pressed the ignore button. "I need you to…" She tried to start to talk again, but her phone vibrated once more; it was Melissa again.

"Pick up, Melissa doesn't call for nothing" Wren told her, worrying a little bit more now about Spencer attitude. Spencer nodded and went to another room to talk to her sister, whatever it was it better important enough to interrupt her moment of bravery.

Wren waited impatiently, walking from side of their bedroom to another. He understood Spencer was young and having kids wasn't in her plans, at some point he thought that maybe she was nervous about the whole thing and that's why she acting weird, but what if it was actually something else. A lot of things crossed his mind while he waited for Spencer, what if the baby isn't ok? What if she doesn't want to have it? Those and a million other questions crossed his mind as he waited for her to talk with Melissa.

In a matter of minutes Spencer reappeared. "My sister is giving birth now, she all by herself because her stupid husband it's at a conference in Canada and can't find a flight back home and my parents are stuck in the highway" She talked so fast that Wren barely understood half of what Spencer was saying. She sounded exasperated. "We have to go to the hospital now, she can't do this alone." The tall brunette demanded as she took her Prada bag and walked out of the room.

Wren chuckled at how cute she was when she was nervous and tried to be bossy; he decided to take all his worries away for a while and be there for Spencer and Melissa, as strange as it might sound. The British man grabbed his keys and followed his fiancé, who turned around and in a even bossier tone said "You better don't tell anyone that I'm pregnant yet.

I know...this sucks... Toby wasn't in this chapter, but I promise he will be in the next one.

What do you think? Let me know if you hated it or not in a review!
