Elena woke up and opened the curtain to her window. It'd been months since they'd started searching for Stefan, with no luck so far. Lexi told them she was keeping things calm, but otherwise, things were pretty much silent.

Elena opened the curtains in Jeremy's room. "Man, it's early."

"It's not early." Elena walked over and pulled the sheets off the bed. "You're late, for work. Matt just called." Jeremy looked at the clock.

"Well, maybe he'll fire me." He said.

"Aim high." Elena said, leaving the room.

"Come on, Jer. Rise and shine." He spun around, startled.

"Anna! How long have you been here?" Jeremy asked.

"Look, you can't just blow off work because crazy things happen in this town." Anna pointed out.

"Yeah, I know. It's been a rough year, though. Seeing others like you, I have no idea how I'm supposed to help your kind."

"I told you, I'd help with that Vicki girl." Anna reminded him. "And I will."

Elena was on the phone with Caroline. Apparently, the sheriff had found a possible lead in Tennessee. "And you're sure it's a vampire?" Elena asked.

"Yes, but that doesn't mean that it's Klaus."

"Doesn't mean it's not." Elena said. "Tell her thank you for her help." She paused. "Oh, Caroline wait, just... keep tonight small. Please."

"Wear something pretty." Then the line went dead. Elena sighed. Other than knowing Stefan was okay, well, as okay as it could get for a vampire, she had no idea how they were going to save him from Klaus. She only hoped that she found their location this time.

"Was that eh... Stefan news?" Alaric asked from the living room.

"Could be more Klaus victims." Elena said.

"You certain Stefan's still with him?"

"Lexi's never lied to us." Elena pointed out. "Besides, she's looking out for you sure you're still okay on the couch?" She asked.

"Yeah, I'm good."

"Because you spent half the summer on it." Elena pointed out. "If you need you own bedroom…"

"sleeping in your dead parent's room or my dead... girlfriend's room, Nah." Alaric said.

"Yeah, I get it. I know it sounds crazy, but do you ever hear her?" Elena asked. "Jer and I, and possibly a few others, think she's been trying to talk to us."

"I'm not going to lie, this whole ghost thing is crazy." Alaric said. "Sometimes, though, when I'm asleep, I think I hear her. Then again, it could just be a dream."

"Well, can't rule anything out." Elena said. She started to leave.

"Hey Elena." She turned around. "Happy Birthday."

"Thanks." She left the house.

When she got the Salvatore's place, she walked in and put her hair up. "Good morning." Damon said from behind her.

"Hey I was gonna..." She turned around, then quickly turned away again. Damon was naked. "You heard me! You knew that I was here." She realized.

"Yeah, you should learn to knock. What if I were indecent?" She threw him a towel and covered her eyes. Then she felt a warm breeze in the room. When she turned back, he was wearing the towel.

"Sheriff Forbes gave us another location to check." She told him. "In Memphis." She handed him the note

"Another dead end you mean." Damon said.

"You don't know that." Elena said.

"You're right, Elena. This could be the one. After almost two months this could be the one clue that tells that Stefan is living in Graceland." Damon said.

"Fine, I'll go by myself." She started to leave.

"Right, and let Klaus know you're tracking him." Damon pointed out. "He thinks you're dead; let's keep it that way."

"It's a new lead Damon; we haven't had one in a while." Elena pointed out.

"Okay, I'll check it out. If I find anything I'll call you."

"But..." Elena began, but he had already left the room. She shook her head.

"Hey, birthday girl." A voice behind her said. She whirled around. It was just Lexi.

"How long have you been there?" Elena asked.

"Since you got here, actually." Lexi told her.

"And you couldn't have warned me that he was…"

"Hey, I don't know everything!" Lexi protested.

"So, how's it going?" Elena asked. "Is he still okay?"

"For the most part, but he's also a little edgy." Lexi told her. "But anyway, I came to see you."

"Me?" Elena asked.

"I wanted to see if you were okay. Anna told me you were looking kind of down this morning." Lexi explained.

"I'll be fine, Lexi." Elena said.

"So, guess I'll be seeing you at the party."

"How'd you know about…"

"You have your secrets, we have ours." Lexi pointed out.

"I can respect that." Elena said. "Speaking of Care, I've gotta meet her in town." She left the house.

At the Grill, Jeremy was working. Anna had disappeared, but she claimed she was watching from a distance. "You need to come home it's boring around here without you."

"Huh, you think you're bored, my dad's side of the family is like wet paint that never dries." Bonnie said from her side of the phone. "How's the Grill treating you?"

"Well, it's teaching me the value of a mundane human experience." Jeremy told her.

"A summer job is god for you, you needed something normal in your life." Suddenly, the lights started flickering.

"What was that?" Bonnie asked.

"I don't know." Jeremy told her. "I should probably get back to work. I'll talk to you soon."

"Okay…" Bonnie said. "Is everything okay over there?"

"I'll be fine, Bonnie." Jeremy pointed out.

"Okay, tell Anna that I'm trusting her." She said. She hung up and the lights flickered again. They turned off, and when they came back on, he could see Vicki. He dropped his phone in surprise.

"Vicki?" He went to pick his phone up and she was gone.

"Are you okay?" Anna asked from behind him.

"She was here." Jeremy told her.

"I know. I saw her. I've been watching from the other side." Anna told him. Suddenly, Matt came in.

"I need you to switch sections with me." Jeremy turned, but Anna had left.

Elena was reluctantly helping to set up for her party. "I feel like I have to fight Damon every single time we get a lead on Stefan." Elena told Caroline and Tyler. "And Lexi can't reveal his location because she promised him."

"I'm guessing ghosts take them more seriously than we do." Caroline said.

"Sounds about right."

"Maybe Damon doesn't want to find him." Tyler suggested.

"Tyler!" Caroline yelled.

"What? He's into you, isn't he?" Tyler pointed out.

"The only reason Stefan left with Klaus was so he could save Damon's life." Elena pointed out. "I mean, trust me, Damon wants to find him."

"But you kissed him." Tyler pointed out. "Probably screwed with his head."

"Tyler!" Caroline looked ready to hit him with the roll of streamers she was holding. Elena looked at her. "Sorry!"

"Don't worry about it, look yes I kissed him but was a... a goodbye kiss. I thought he was gonna die." She pointed out.

"We all thought he was going to." She heard Lexi say.

"I just got a missed a call from Bonnie, I'll be right back." Elena said. She headed out of the room. She checked her messages, then Lexi showed up.

"So, you kissed him?"

"For the love of…I thought he was going to die. I wasn't expecting Katherine to come in with the cure." Elena said.

"Hey, I'm not saying anything." Lexi said. "I'm sorry I'm not much help with your investigation."

"Hey, as long as we keep trying to find him, that's what's important." Elena said. "How is he?"

"On edge." Lexi said. "I'm worried that he might snap from all this pressure building up." Elena seemed worried. "I'm doing everything I can. I can resort to sleep therapy if you want me to."

"I'm fine, really." Elena said.

"You still have feelings for him, Elena. It's okay to miss him." Lexi told her. "I know I would if the situation were reversed."

"I just don't want to worry the others."

"I wouldn't be so sure. If I can see it, so can they." Lexi said.

"Elena?" She heard Caroline call.

"Coming!" Elena looked at Lexi.

"Go on. You've got to finish setting up. I'll be back soon."

That night she was standing in front of the mirror. "Don't worry I'm not gonna lose it." She told Damon. "at least not before the cake."

"It's you're party, you can cry if you want to." He pointed out. "Ah, Stefan. Such a pack rat."

"Hey, memories are important." Lexi pointed out, appearing behind them.

"I got you something. I know I promised not to buy you anything so don't worry I didn't pay for it." Damon told her.

"You stole it?"

"No!" He handed her a small box. "Found it." He opened it, revealing her necklace inside.

"It's my necklace. I thought I'd never see it again." She told him.

"Ghost girl found it at Alaric's, it was sort of her idea." Damon told her.

"Actually, he found it first. Damon thought you'd be happy to have it." Lexi said.

"I am happy, Thank you." Elena said.

"You're welcome."

"Can you?"

"Absolutely." She turned around and pulled her hair up so he could put the necklace on her. She turned and looked at him. Lexi could tell there was something going on with Elena.

"Can you give me a moment with her?" Lexi asked.

"Sure." He stepped out of the room, but stayed close by.

"You okay?"

"Yeah, I just can't believe you guys found it. This necklace means a lot to me."

"Not to mention it protects you from being compelled." Lexi added.

"Sometimes this stuff gets really hard." Lexi put her arms around her, momentarily forgetting she couldn't actually touch her.

"Well, we can't leave them waiting." Elena pointed out.

"You know, we don't have to do this. We can celebrate some other time."

"No, I want to do this."

"Okay."

They headed out of the room. Damon glanced over at Lexi as they left. "She's holding it in." He heard her say in his head. Before he could even ask how she was able to do that, she'd disappeared.

Meanwhile, in the den, Jeremy was sitting down with Matt. "So, what's going on with you?"

"Nothing. It's just weird, seeing things."

"Yeah, Bonnie mentioned you sort of shared the ability to see ghosts." Matt said. "Personally, I'm kind of skeptic about it."

"Consider yourself lucky." Jeremy said. "All summer, I've had to deal with spirits with no clue on how to help them. I can't even tell which ones are the good ones, aside from the ones who've helped us out." Anna was standing near him, but he didn't see because he was facing Matt.

"Yeah, it's still pretty weird. I don't see how you guys deal with this stuff."

"I know. It's like most people or families only have to deal with one ghost, Bonnie and I see all of them." Jeremy said.

"Well, you're a mediator and witches are psychic, so that sort of makes sense." Matt pointed out. "As for the others…" He began.

"As long as they've known the person when they were alive or undead or whatever, they can see them." Jeremy said.

"If that were true, maybe my dad would've convinced my mom to come back." Matt said. He got up at the same time Elena and Caroline entered the room.

"Well, you've been brushing up on the supernatural." Anna told Jeremy. He looked at her. "I know you can't tell him about Vicki yet."

"How did you know they were…"

"News travels fast on the other side." Anna said. "And I remembered seeing him at the Founder's Hall before, after he found out about her. That, and they have the same eyes." She noticed Elena in the room. She went over to her.

"What is going on with him?" Elena asked. Caroline looked at her.

"He's kind of stressed about the whole mediator thing." Anna said. "I'm starting to think maybe I should've been around more."

"Well, if it would've kept him out of drugs…" Elena pointed out.

"I'm a ghost, not a D.A.R.E. program sponsor!" Anna said defensively. "Maybe you should get Ric to talk to him. He's better at this than I am."

Lexi showed up at the Salvatore's house, without a clue as to how she got there. "What's going on?"

"Look at this." Elena said, pointing to a map in the closet. "He's been searching the whole time."

"That is so typical of him." Lexi said. "Look, I'll kick his butt for you later. Right now, he and I are dealing with a crisis. I'll be back soon." She concentrated and found herself in the TV studio.

She saw Damon looking around. "Damon." She whispered.

"Let me guess, he has something to do with it."

"Listen to me, I could let you go down alone here, but I'm gonna cut to the chase: Klaus is getting suspicious of you. Stefan's trying to get you off their trail." Lexi said.

"By kidnapping Andie?" Damon asked. "What kind of messed-up plan is that?"

"I swear, I had no idea how far he was going to take this." Lexi told him. Just then, he spotted a bag on the floor. He knew it was Andie's.

"Stefan." Damon said. He was standing right next to them.

"Hey."

"You don't write, you don't call."

"Need you to stop following me. Causing some problems." Stefan told him.

"With who? Klaus? Are we supposed to care with he thinks?" Damon asked.

"You should care because it's your life he's threatened." Lexi said. "And we don't need a repeat of last time." She moved until she was in between the guys.

"Look, we've got a birthday girl at home who you know isn't going to give up on you." Damon added. "Not to mention I'm pretty sure you're guardian spirit won't give up, either."

"Thanks for the vote of confidence, D." Lexi said sarcastically.

"Maybe I haven't made my point." Stefan said. "Hey, Andie, you still there?"

"Andie?" Damon and Lexi looked up and noticed Andie hanging up on the scaffolding, she seemed paralyzed with fear.

"Damon? I can't move. He told me that I can't move." Andie said, clearly frightened.

"Andie, stay calm." Damon told her. He turned to Stefan. "Not cool, brother."

"Come on, it's a little cool."

"I can't believe I'm saying it, I'm with Damon on this one." Lexi said. "Stef, this is taking it too far."

"Andie, you can move now." Lexi jumped up to save the girl while the guys fought. By the time she got back down, she was holding Andie and Stefan had left. Andie was unconcious.

"Is she…" Damon began.

"No, I can sense her life force is still strong." Lexi told him. "But she's frightened to death. Maybe you shouldn't be seeing her anymore."

"I knew what I was getting into when we started going out." Damon said.

"Don't get me wrong, I still don't like you." Lexi said, setting Andie down gently after pressing her fingers to her forehead. "But you do have your moments. I'll meet you at the house, but Elena's kind of pissed at you."

"Wouldn't expect anything less." Damon said.

Lexi appeared outside near Stefan. "Hey. Just thought you should know, the girl's okay."

"Yeah, figured you'd save her."

"All this just to get them off your back?" Lexi said. "You know that none of us are giving up, right?"

"I know, but…" He sighed.

"You're having one of those nights, aren't you?" Lexi asked.

"You heard Klaus, if they keep looking, he'll kill Damon. And you know what'll happen if he finds out Elena's alive."

"Speaking of which, she seemed kind of sad at her party." Lexi told him. "It's like she's one of us."

"I wish I could be there for her. But if I don't go back to Klaus, he'll know something's up."

"I'll tell her what you said." Lexi said. "I guess I should go check in on her. I'll meet you later."

"Lexi, thank you. I know you're risking a lot being here."

"Hey, friends don't let friends down, whether we're alive or undead." Lexi pointed out. He handed her a sheet of paper.

"Give this to Elena for me. I wrote it when I had a few moments of peace." She nodded, then he watched as she faded into the night.

Anna kept to the shadows as she watched Jeremy head toward his car. She could sense Vicki nearby, also in hiding. She knew she was around because whenever Vicki showed up, she got this feeling of darkness radiating off her.

She watched as the guys got into the car. That's when Vicki chose to show herself. She quickly got behind Jeremy. Before Vicki disappeared, she heard her say two words. "Help me."

"Jer, you better head back home." Anna whispered. "I'll shadow you and let you know if she's following." Jeremy looked back at her, but she was already disappearing. He nodded, knowing he could trust her even if he couldn't see her.

Lexi arrived back at the Boarding House a little later. She hoped she hadn't been gone too long, since she'd been trying to reach Anna, but she was unavailable. She moved past the party and headed up to the bedroom. She could hear Elena arguing with Damon.

"Stefan isn't coming back. Not in your lifetime." She heard him say. Lexi quickly blended into the shadows before he could see her. She stepped into the room.

Elena was sitting on the bed, looking at her necklace. There were tears in her eyes. "Just ignore him. He's been having a bad night." Lexi told her. Elena glanced up at her.

"You're here."

"Of course I am." She sat next to Elena and put her arm around her, even though she couldn't really feel it. "It seems like he's just trying to hold on."

"Do you think we still have a chance to save him?" Elena asked her. Lexi hesitated. She didn't want to give her false hope, but she didn't want her to just give up either.

"I think that there's always a chance we can help him." Lexi finally said. "We're not giving up on him. Well, I'm not. No matter what that idiot Damon says, you've still got me."

Elena smiled. "I'm so worried about him."

"You have every right to be." Lexi told her. "But he's always thinking of you, I know that much."

"So, you guys know telepathy now or…"

"More like we can sense what they're thinking, but it's really accurate." Lexi admitted. "By the way, I found this." She lied, handing Stefan's note to Elena.

"Where did you…"

"It must've fallen out of his pocket or something while he was travelling." Lexi said.

"And you always know where he is." Elena said.

"Not always, sometimes I just get lucky." Lexi told her. "I should get back to him, though. Oh, and don't read that until you get home." She added. "Some things need to stay private, you know."

"Thanks for coming by, Lexi." Elena said. Lexi smiled at her, then disappeared from the room. Then Elena realized she was still holding the note in her hand. She put the folded paper into her purse and left.

At the Gilberts', Anna was with Jeremy and Matt. She was relieved that Matt couldn't see her. "What happened in the car, man?" He'd asked Jeremy.

"Nothing." Jeremy lied.

"Come on, man. You said, "Vicki". All right, you said my sister's name. Why?" Matt asked.

"I've been seeing her." Jeremy admitted. "She just pops up sometimes."

"I mean, I think I see her all the time, too. It's 'cause I miss her so much, though. You know, like, I want to see her so I do. Look, I know we've got our hands full with all that supernatural stuff in this town, but... Ghosts."

"Well, it's possible. Ghosts often appear to those they were closest to in life." Jeremy said. "But my spirit guide's been saying something's not quite right with her."

"Maybe, or maybe I'm still not over her loss." Matt said. He left the room.

"Well, that went well." Anna said. "He's still in shock over the supernatural, Jeremy. It's natural if he doesn't believe you."

"Yeah, I know." Jeremy said. "Are you sure you're okay with this? I mean, I know you said you'd help, but you've still got unfinished business yourself."

"I'm still looking for her." Anna told him. "But I promised I'd help you first. Trust me, it's not always easy on this side."

Elena was in her bedroom, getting ready for bed. She found a card from Jeremy on her bed. Just as she came back into the room, she remembered the note and took it out of her purse. She noticed her phone vibrating. She answered it, but there was no sound on the other end.

It didn't take her long to figure out who was calling her. "Stefan, if this is you, you'll be okay. I love you Stefan. Hold onto that. Never let that go."

Sometime afterward, she got into her bed and read the note.
