It was senior prank night. Elena was in the hallway of the school when she heard Lexi's voice. "Elena…" Elena looked around, but didn't see her. "I'm not in the school yet, but you're in trouble."
"What do you mean?" Elena whispered. She walked through a doorway and then figured out why Lexi was warning her.
"Klaus!"
"You're supposed to be dead. What are we going to do about that?" He asked her. Elena just stood there in shock.
"I'll be with you soon, but you need to stall." She heard Lexi say.
"How are you even communicating with me?" Elena asked her, telepathically.
"I don't know, I think it might be a projection of my ghost powers or maybe my thoughts, doesn't matter, just give me some time!"
Which is how she found herself being dragged down the hallway. "You put a rather large kink in my plans, sweetheart. The whole point of breaking the curse and becoming a hybrid was to make more hybrids. I haven't been able to do that. Now my bet is, it has something to do with the fact that you're still breathing."
"If you're going to kill me, just do it!" Elena told him.
"Not until I know I'm right. But I do have ways of making you suffer." They entered the gym, where several students were setting up ideas. "Attention, seniors. You have officially been busted. Prank night is over. Head on home."
Elena watched as he spoke with and compelled two of her classmates. "Lexi, please hurry. He's got two students compelled in here."
"I'm trying, I just need to take care of a little distraction first." She heard Lexi respond. It sounded like she was straining against something.
A few minutes later, in the truck, Lexi was relieved when Rebekah left. However, she felt a little weak from projecting a shield around her friend, who had passed out again. She realized it'd take several minutes for him to wake up and decided to check on him later. Then, she headed into the school.
Meanwhile, Damon had pulled over and gotten out of the car. Rose and Katherine were still there, too. Rose also sensed that another spirit was present, but hadn't shown themselves yet. He had thrown the keys into the field.
"We're not going anywhere until you spill your guts."
"Fine." Katherine pulled Elena's necklace out of her pocket. "Do you recognize this? A little birdy told me that Klaus wants to get his hands on it."
"Why would Klaus want Elena's necklace?" Damon asked.
"Lexi said told us that it belonged to some witch he was trying to contact." Rose said.
"When I stole the necklace from Bonnie, I found out something else..." Katherine said.
"And what's that?" Damon asked.
"Are you willing to do whatever it takes to stop Klaus? No turning back?" Katherine asked them.
"You know we want to stop him, Katerina. How about you stop with the games?" Rose told her.
"Let him go, Kat." A voice said. Anna was standing there and she looked furious.
"What are you talking about?" Rose asked.
"Come see for yourselves." Anna said, using her powers to pop the trunk open. The others gathered and noticed an unconscious Jeremy inside.
"Why the hell would you do this?" Rose asked.
"Because she won't talk otherwise. I knew she was bonded to him when she tried to save him in the tomb, so I figured it was the only way to get her here."
"You could've tried calling me the old-fashioned way." Anna said.
"Would you have answered?" Katherine pointed out.
"Could you get to the point?" Damon asked them. "Look, we're trying to get answers, not argue."
In the gym, Elena was still alone with Klaus. "Where's Stefan? What did you do to him?" She asked.
"Stefan's on a time out."
"Don't worry, he'll wake up soon." Elena was relieved to hear Lexi behind her. Just then, Bonnie and Matt entered the room.
"Bonnie, get out of here!"
"Ah, I was wondering when you'd show up. Now we can get started." Klaus said. He ordered the two students to give them some space. "I assume you're the reason Elena's still walking around alive?"
"That's right. If you want to blame someone, blame me." Bonnie said.
"Oh, there's no need for blame, love. Just your witchy interference seems to have caused some undesirable side effects." Klaus told her. "And since you caused the problem, I'm going to have you find the fix."
"Bonnie, don't help him." Lexi said. "Whatever's happening with his failed hybrids, it has to do with Elena." Bonnie nodded. Just then, a blonde entered the room dragging another one of Elena's friends with her. She assumed it was Tyler, since he looked kind of similar to Mason. She remembered Rebekah from her encounters with Stefan in the city.
"I'd like you all to meet my sister Rebekah. Word of warning... She can be quite mean." Klaus told the group.
"Don't be an ass." Rebekah told him, tossing Tyler to him. Lexi smiled. Even though she was a total mean girl, there was a part of her that admired her for standing up for herself.
"Leave him alone!" Elena said.
"I'm going to make this very simple... Every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire hybrid, they die during the transition. It's quite horrible, actually." He explained. He bit his wrist and forced Tyler to drink his blood. "I need you to find a way to save my hybrids, Bonnie. And for Tyler's sake...You better hurry." Suddenly, he snapped his neck, to the shock of the others. Even Lexi was stunned silent. That's when she heard him calling her.
"Elena, Bonnie, I'll be back in a few minutes." She told them.
When she arrived at back to the truck, she found Stefan awake. "Thank goodness your up." She said as he removed a crowbar from his leg.
"What's going on in there?"
"It's bad news." Lexi said. "We might want to hurry if we're going to save them." Stefan got to his feet, then winced. He still hadn't completely healed yet. Then he felt her supporting him. "Come on, I've got you, buddy."
"How are you even able to…"
"I'm a ghost girl and that's the first thing you're going to ask?" Lexi pointed out. "Not really the right time or place, remember?" She held onto him and helped him as they made their way back into the school.
Back by the car, Rose was trying to restrain Anna from attacking Katherine. "What if I told you there was a way to kill Klaus?" Katherine was asking. "And not Dagger dead. Dead dead."
"I'd say you were desperate and lying. Or drunk. Or desperate, lying and drunk."
"Do you remember my friend Pearl?" Katherine asked. Anna tensed. She briefly wondered if Katherine had seen her, then realized that her mother was the last person that would appear to her, especially after the way she betrayed her.
"Vividly."
"Centuries ago, she told me about a vampire who knew how to kill Klaus. Then she wouldn't tell me any more." Katherine said.
"Well, why not?" Damon asked.
"Because it was her leverage. She knew it was valuable information, and wouldn't share it with me." Katherine explained.
"That sounds about right. My mom never fully trusted you." Anna said.
"Well, this is all great... But she's dead." He noticed Anna cringe as he said it. "Sorry."
"Yeah, we know she's dead, we just don't know where she is." She said sadly.
"May I continue?" Katherine asked, slightly irritated by the interruption. She nodded. "Only reason I never brought it up is because she only told one other person."
"Who?" Damon asked.
"Me." They looked at Anna. "She told me. But that doesn't explain why you had to kidnap my person to draw me out here."
"It was the only way I knew of to make sure you'd help us."
"Do what you want, but I won't let you hurt him again. I've gotten a lot stronger since the last time we fought." Anna told her.
"Anna?" Everyone turned and saw that Jeremy had woken up. "Where the heck are we?"
"The middle of nowhere, courtesy of these two jerks." Anna told him, indicating to Katherine and Damon.
Back in the gym, Elena was sitting when Lexi returned…with Stefan. "Stefan..."
"Klaus."
"Come to save your damsel, mate?" Klaus asked him.
"I came to ask for your forgiveness. And pledge my loyalty." Stefan told him.
"Well, you broke that pledge once already."
"Elena means nothing to me anymore. And whatever you ask of me... I will do."
"Elena, don't move." Lexi told her. "This is part of his plan. I'll keep you safe."
"Let's drink on it. Kill them." Stefan hesitated. "What are you waiting for? Kill them."
"Stefan, don't. He's not going to hurt me." Elena was saying. "He already said..." Suddenly, Lexi was between them and Klaus was thrown back.
"Now how did you manage that?"
"Did I forget to mention we have a few extra hands?" Elena said.
"Let her go." Everyone turned to face Stefan. "I'll do whatever you want, you have my word."
"Your word doesn't mean much. I lived by your word all summer, during which time I never had to resort to this..." Klaus walked toward him and before Lexi could do anything, he'd compelled him.
"Elena, I'm not saying it because I think you can't handle it, but you should really close your eyes." Lexi said.
"Why?"
"Trust me." Elena closed her eyes while Lexi moved toward the others.
Back in the middle of nowhere, the group were all standing there. "This will never work, you guys realize this?" Jeremy said
"To be fair, I was kind of dragged into it." Damon pointed out. His phone vibrated. Katherine looked at the caller ID.
"I think that your witchy girlfriend's worried that you've run away with your ghostly lover." Katherine said. Anna blushed.
"Can we focus on why we're here instead of our little drama?" Jeremy asked.
"We've been over this, Kat. I'm not helping you." Anna said.
"Hey, it's okay, Anna." Jeremy said. "We all want to stop Klaus."
"I don't care." Anna said. "Katherine's still an enemy, no matter which side she's on."
"This is ridiculous." Damon said. "Look, if not Katherine, what about my brother? Or that Bennett witch? As long as Klaus is alive, they're in danger, too." Anna looked at him. She knew he was right, there were more lives at stake than just them.
"Okay, there is someone who could help, but he's dangerous." Anna told him. "His name's Mikeal. He's a vampire that hunts vampires. But if you wake him, he'll kill all of you."
"What do you mean, wake him?" Jeremy asked.
"My mother had an unpleasant encounter with him years before we met Katherine." Anna explained. "Nearly killed her. He only spared her because he found out she had me."
"Do you know where Mikael is now?" Katherine asked.
"Yeah, but I still think this is a very bad idea."
"We better find the keys." Damon said.
"You mean these?" Anna opened her hand and revealed that she had the keys with her. "Rose gave them to me after you threw them into the field."
Back in the gym, Lexi helped Elena to her feet. In all the commotion, the poor girl had passed out. Once she woke up, Lexi explained what was happening. "It's always nice to see a vampire in his true element. The species has become such a broody lot." Klaus said.
"Yeah, don't believe everything you read in Twilight." Lexi said. Elena would've been laughing if it hadn't been for the situation they were in.
"You did this to him." She told Klaus.
"I invited him to the party, love. He's the one dancing on the table." Just then, Rebekah burst into the room.
"Now what?" Lexi wondered.
"Where is it?! Where's my necklace?" Lexi and Stefan looked at each other. They knew the others had been looking for the necklace because it belonged to a witch. It's why Lexi had ended up half carrying Stefan out of Chicago.
"What are you talking about?" Klaus asked her.
"She has my necklace. Look." Rebekah handed him her phone.
"I don't have it." Elena told her.
"You're lying!" Rebekah rushed toward her, then felt some kind of force push her back. Lexi had stepped in front of Elena and had used her ghost powers to force her away, even though she couldn't see her. "What are you?" She wondered.
"At this point, it's better not to tell her the truth." Lexi whispered to Elena.
"A medium." Elena told her. It actually wasn't a total lie, since she could see the spirits of the people she'd either become friends with or had known a long time. Rebekah seemed surprised by the revelation and calmed down.
"So, where's the necklace?"
"Katherine stole it." Elena told the group.
"Katerina. Of course." Klaus said. "Well, that's unfortunate. If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?"
"That can't be good." Lexi said.
"Twenty minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena." Klaus said. All three of them looked at him in horror.
"No, Klaus! Don't do this to him!" Elena said.
"No one leaves. If she tries to run, fracture her spine." Klaus said. The Originals left the gym. The group looked at each other.
"I am so sorry about all this." Stefan told the girls.
"Hey, it isn't your fault." Elena said.
"Actually, it kind of is. If we'd been more careful, none of us would be in this mess."
"Stop apologizing." Lexi said. "The only way any of us are going to get out of this is if we start coming up with ideas on how to get out of this mess."
