Chapter sixteen.
4 months later. November, 31 2015.
Stefan's POV.
I have been away from my family during one month. I was forced to go to NY and in Taiwan, then in France and I didn't see my daughter who will turn four this weekend. It's a surprise that I return today but I couldn't miss her birthday. it will her first with both of her parents together and happy.
Here I am in front of Elena's office. She will leave any minute and now is the moment. She saw and runs towards me. I look at her and she already shows that she is pregnant, with my babies. She is so beautiful with her loose bun and a black dress who fit her perfectly like a second skin.
"Hey baby.." I say and kiss her lips hard. I miss having her close to me, feel her skin next to mine, I miss touching her belly and trying to feel them moving inside the woman I love.
She wraps her arms around my neck and kisses me back. "Hi babe." she whispers against my lips.
"I miss you so much." I kiss her again and I pull her closer to me.
"Me too so much." she says. I close my eyes and inhale the scent of her hair, lavanda.
"What are you doing here ?" she asks and puts her head in the crook of my neck.
"I can't miss Ella's birthday and I've been away too long from my family." I say and rub her belly slowly.
"You had to go there, it's your job and your company. Even if you are the CEO, it doesn't mean that you don't have to go to NY, Stefan. I understand and our daughter too." she says and kisses my neck.
"Go, baby I want to see our daughter." I say and Taylor open the car's door for us.
"I know what you are trying to do, Stefan." she says playfully and I kiss her palm. "I really understand, even if I hate when you are not with us."
"I take a decision about my company and-" I begin but she cuts me off.
"Don't you dare selling it, you worked so hard to be where you are today." she replies and crosses her arms over her chest pouting.
"I will not sell her, baby. It was never my intention I just want to move her here near us, in LA. So, I move her here with you because I can't live without you."
"You can't do that, Stefan. Your brother is there and your mom too. You can' t leave them like that." she says and I know that she thought about it too. We can't continue to live like that with me on the other side on the country.
"What are you saying ?" I ask and she turns to look at me.
"That maybe, we can go to NY together. I loved living there with you. I thought about that during this last month and this is the best decision for us. I know that I can work anywhere but you can't. You built it there and I can't take this decision. Plus, Ella can go to a better school."
"You really thought about that. You're sure ? I don't want you to leave LA for me, baby." I say and kiss her temple.
"I want to be with you no matter what. It can be Los Angeles or New York or Paris, this three years have been hell and I don't want to be apart from you ever again." she says and kisses my neck.
"Okay baby. I will see what I can do about that later. Now, I want to see our daughter."
Taylor stops in front of Caroline's house because Nik takes the girls from school. I climb out of the car and open the door of Elena.
"Thank babe." she says and I wraps my arm around her waist protectively.
"You have your appointment at what time, baby ? I ask her and rub her belly.
"How do you know that I have an appointement ? At 7:30 PM, we will be able to see our babies." she responds smiling.
"Dada !" Ella screams when she opens the door before I could ring the bell. She jumps in my arms and I kiss her cheek.
"Baby girl ! I miss you so much." I say and she wraps her legs around my waist after Elena moved away from me and she smiles widely at me.
"Me too, Dada." she says and puts her head in the crook of my neck.
"Stefan." Nik says and pats his shoulder.
I spend two hours with Ella and Emily playing. Elena and Nik are with us, talking and drinking orange juice. I smile at Elena when I see that she rubs her pregnant belly instinctively.
We are in the waiting room for Elena's appointment with Dr. Mileiko. She told me that she follows her since she got out of the hospital because she is specializes in twin pregnancy.
"Miss Gilbert, the Dr will see you now." a nurse come and she guides us to her office.
"Thank you, Miss." I say and she leaves us. Elena is sitting next to me and I can see that she is nervous. I take her hand and squeeze it gently before kissing her knuckles.
"It will be okay, baby." I say.
She nods and before she can answer the door opens.
A black woman enters the office and smiles at us. She must be thirty and she is warm, she shakes our hands and smiles widely at Elena, telling her that she is radiant.
"I'm sorry for the wait, I had an emergency C-section." she says and she smiles apologetically
"You must be the dad ?" she asks me.
"Yes." I smile and squeeze Elena's thigh.
"You are at twenty weeks, Elena. We will do an ultrasound and will be able to find the sex of your babies."
She settles Elena on the auscultation table and removes Elena's shirt. She begins the ultrasound and I'm amazed that we can see almost everything. She press a button and we hear our babies heartbeats. We look at the screen and I feel tears coming in my eyes.
I look over at Elena and see that she has tears streaming down her face too. I squeeze her hand and kiss her knuckles softly. It's our babies, that we create together.
"You want to know their sex ?" she asks and I look at Elena. She nods her and I smile at her.
"Yes, please." I say smiling.
"Here, it's a a little girl." she shows us her little hands and her little foots. "Here it's a little boy, well hidden."
"The king's choice" Elena says and I kiss her lips.
"Thank you, baby."
"Their are both fine, but you have had some cramps last month. I advise you not to do too much and you are not going to work because it can be dangerous. If something happens like that again, call me immediatly and go to the emergency."
I narrow my eyes and look at Elena worried. Why she didn't tell me ? I would be returned to her immediately.
"Of course thank you Doctor. Can we have a picture ?" she says and avoids my eyes.
"Yes, of course. Everything is fine, you can get dressed Elena. Mr. Salvatore you can come with me." she says and give me the pictures.
"You didn't know that she had cramps ?" Dr. Mileiko asks me.
"No, but it can be dangerous, right ?" I ask worried and run my hand though my hair.
"Yes and much more for Elena because she is having twins. She can't go back to work because if they increase she may be losing a baby. I don't want to scare you but you have to know. She had already problems during Ella's pregnancy, I'm not the one to tell you what happened but I don't want to see her again like that." she says and before I can ask her what happened, Elena come radiant in the office.
"I will give you vitamins and you need to rest a lot this month because they will increasingly move, okay ?"
"Thank you Ashley." she says and I see that she become friend because of what happened during the delivery of Ella.
"I will see you both next month." she says and shakes our hands.
I kiss Elena temple when we leave Ashley office. She wraps her arm around my waist and I pull her close to me.
"What happened during Ella's delivery ?" I ask when we drive home.
"I .. I nearly died." she whispers with tears in her eyes and my breath stuck in my throat. How it happened ?
"What happened ?" I ask and put my hand on her thigh.
"I … I wanted to give birth normally and didn't want a C-section but I have been in labor for fifteen hours and Ella was in distress. Caroline was with me and I knew that something was wrong by Caroline's face, she was blanches and.. and I was going to faint, I was weak and wanted you to be with me. I wanted so much to push her out myself but I had a C- section and I lost a lot of blood..
"I have had a serious hemorrhage and blood clot in the uterus after the C-section. Caroline stayed with Ella and I almost thought that I will never see Ella again because I fainted and prayed to God that you would take care of her if anything happened to me. I was so scared because you weren't with me." she cries and I don't know how we arrive at home because I don't remember driving after she began to talk.
"I'm so sorry, baby." I say when she gets out of the car and I wrap my arms around her small body shaking.
She wraps her arms around my neck and cries during a long time. She had to living hell and I wasn't with her to support her. I hate that she had suffer like this, for this pregnacy I will be with her all the time.
"It will be okay this time, baby." I whisper in her ear and she nods. Ella is asleep on the couch with Emily when we enter in the living room. Caroline is here watching them reading a book.
"Thank you, Care." I say and kiss her cheek.
"You're welcome, can you take Em please ? I'm so fat that I can't carry her anymore." she says that she is eight months pregnant with a little boy.
"Of course, Care. He will be here soon." I say to her and take Emily in my arms. "Do you want me to drive you home ?"
"No, I can drive for two minutes Stefan, I will be okay." she says and I kiss her hair before she gets into her car.
"Okay. Drive safely." I say and she rolls her eyes at me.
I enter and see that Elena is trying to carry Ella to her room but with her bump she can't and I know it must be frustrating. "Baby, I got her." I say and she narrows her eyes at me.
"I want to do it, I always do it and now I can't and-" she begins to cry. I know it's hormones but I hate when she cries.
"Baby, it's nothing. You are pregnant with twins, I don't want you being hurt because you are carrying Ella in the stairs." I say and kiss her forehead, rubbing her back.
"Okay. You can take her, tomorrow it's a big day for our daughter." she says and I kiss her lips softly.
"You can go shower or you can wait for me." I whisper seductively in her ear.
"I'm fat for you watching me shower and I have stretch marks, so I will shower before you can see me naked." she says and I feel new tears on my shirt.
"You are not fat, you are carrying our children and you have to gain weight. You are beautiful for me all the time even if you are in PJ. I love your curve, your pregnant belly and most importantly I love you." I say and wipe her tears away.
"I love you too, babe." she says and climbs stairs after kissing Ella's cheek.
Elena's POV.
I get out of shower, wrapping my robe around my wet body and before I can dry myself, Stefan enters in the bathroom. He looks at me with lust in his eyes and I blush. My body responds immediately at him even if I don't him to see me naked, it's been too long since we were together like this.
"Open it." he says looking at my robe and removes his shirt. I open slowly and pull it out of my shoulders.
"You are beautiful.." he walks towards me, behind me and locks his eyes with mine in the mirror. What can I say thank you when I feel everything but beautiful.
"You are, baby." he says as he can read my thought. He places his hands on my belly and I put mine instinctively on his.
"Thank you." I say and he moves his hands near my wet folds, my breath accelerates and I put my head against his naked chest.
"You are already wet, baby I like that." he says in my ear and moves his hands in and out over and over until I can feel myself built and he stops his ministrations, leaving my breathless and horny as hell.
"Stefan.." I say and open my eyes. He looks at me with a salacious smirk. "What baby ?"
"Don't stop, please." I say and frown.
"I will go shower, now." he says and walks away from me.
"I hate you." I say and turn around. I feel him behind me before he kisses my neck and whispering "I know you don't and I will finish what I started after my shower."
"But you will be dirty after." I whisper and walk in our room.
After his shower, he kept his promise he finish what he started and even more. We didn't go to sleep before 3AM and tomorrow it's Ella's birthday and there are millions of things to do.
"Sleep baby. You must be exhausted." Stefan says when he returns after he clean me up and pulls me against his chest. He wraps his arms around me and caresses my belly. He kiss my neck softly and I fall asleep hearing his heartbeat.
"Mommy, mommy.." I hear Ella's voice and stir. I open my eyes and find Ella in front of me in her pink pajama.
"Hi baby girl." I say and she climbs in our bed. "Happy birthday !"
"Thank you mommy. I'm a big girl now." she says and she climbs on the bed showing me as she grows.
"Of course you are. Where is daddy ?" I smile and she cuddles against me.
"Downstairs with Auntie Care." she says and I kiss her hair.
"What time is it ?" I ask and she begins to jump on the bed.
"After nine, mommy. You sleep a lot." she explains and frowns just like her father.
"It's late. I have to get up, there are a lot of thing to do before your party." I say and she jumps out of bed, running in her room. She returns with the white dress who we habe buy specially for her birthday and I help her get dress before brushing her hair. She has beautiful hair with natural waves, just like me.
I put on a white dress which is floor length with a halter top and leaves my shoulder and arms exposed. The fabric from the halter top forms an X over the center of my back before connecting to the side of the dress at my rib cage. There is a small but tasteful, amount of my back that is left bare before the fabric meets just above my butt. I look at me in the full length mirror in front of me with Ella next to me. I do a quick bun and put on light make up with a line of eyeliner.
"Mommy, you are beautiful." she says and crasses my belly before kissing her sister and brother. I kiss her forehead and wipe my tears away. I'm so happy that she accepts her siblings so easily. She is so happy to become a big sister for them. "You are beautiful, baby girl."
"Daddy can buy me a dress too ?" she asks because it's Stefan who buy me this dress, from France.
"Yes, maybe it's your present for your birthday ?" I say and she claps her hands together.
We go downstairs and find an organizer outside with Caroline in controls of everything. My garden is full of people, preparing the best birthday she could have dreamed. "What happened here, babe ?" I ask Stefan when we find him in the kitchen.
"You were sleeping and Caroline was already here at eight this morning with an organizer. It was a surprise because you are pregnant and I already arrange everything, baby. Don't worry." he smiles and kisses me on the lips.
"Thank you, babe." I say and eat granola with Ella for breakfast. "It's mean a lot and I'm already tired."
"You are beautiful, baby." he says and kisses my forehead. "I love feeling your back with my fingers and I imagine what you have under this beautiful dress." he whispers seductively in my ear before nipping my lobe.
"Thank you and thank you for this dress." I say smiling and I blush.
He grins and helps Ella to serve her orange juice. "How are our baby boy and baby girl this morning ?" he asks rubbing my belly.
"They are good, they move a lot and they pull on my back." I smile. Ella get up from her chair and kisses my baby bump.
It's remember me the first Ella's birthday. It's the December 1st 2012, my baby girl has one year.
I wake up with the sound of Ella's crying in her crib. I look at the alarm clock and see that it's already nine, she sleeps during ten hours without waking up at four in the morning. I get out of bed and head towards Ella's bedroom.
"Mama.." she says with her little voice and tears in her eyes.
"I'm here birthday girl." I kiss her forehead and take her in my arms.
"Huhh." she babbles and shows me her belly.
"Yes, baby. I will prepare breakfast when we go downstairs and I put you in your high chair." she shake her head and tries to get out of my arms because she wants to walk on her own.
"Plpppp."
"No, you don't go downstairs I carry you and after we will eat together."
"No." she sticks out her tongue and I giggle.
"Yes, what do you want ?" I ask smiling and put her in her high chair.
"Takes." she giggles.
"No, baby girl you are too small for pancakes. What about a nursing bottle and applesauce ?"
"Yeah !" she giggles.
"Which first ?" I ask and see that she focuses on the words.
"Appp." she is so cute because she opens her mouth wide to say the letter a.
"Applesauce.." I say and she nods smiling from ear to ear.
I change her diaper and go downstairs with Ella in my arms giggling when I tickle her sweetly.
"Da.. da.." my heart aches because she doesn't know Stefan and it's because of me. I hold my tears and try to finish my French toast, looking at Ella who take her spoon and miss her mouth.
I take my camera and take a picture of Ella because she is so cute when she giggles and I want and hope that one day Stefan will know about her and wants to see pictures of her when she was a baby.
There a knock at the door and I yell "You can come in, Care."
"A nursing bottle for you baby girl." I say when she pulls away her applesauce.
"Mama." she nods happily and I take her in my arms. I sit in the couch and places against my chest. I give it to her and she closes her slowly, suckling. Her tiny hands wrapping around her bottle, like her life depending on it.
"Hey Lena, how is the birthday girl ?" she asks and put Emily on settee who is sleeping in her a carrycot.
"She is good, she loves her baby bottle. How is my favorite niece ?" I say caressing Ella's little hands, smiling.
"She is sleeping because she wouldn't sleep last night and I was up with her most of the time. She had a fever but she did not want to sleep and Nik was snoring in our bed."
"She is better, now ?" I ask turning my head towards Caroline.
"Yes, her fever went down a little after 5AM, so I sleep like three hours. And of course, she didn't want to sleep in her crib so I take her with us." she says and smiles because Emily is like Ella when she is sick, she always sleep with me.
"I can look after her, if you want to take a nap this afternoon." I say and star at my beautiful baby girl who has a smile on her little lips.
"No, it's okay, Lena it's your day with Ella. Can I have coffee ?" she asks and kisses Em's button nose.
"Of course, go head. You can eat some French toast if you want." I say and watch Ella who she is falling asleep. I remove her baby bottle and she turns her head against my chest.
I put her on the couch, by placing cushions on the side to prevent her from falling. I look at her and take another photo of her. I feel a hand of my shoulder and I jump.
"Sorry, I didn't want to scare you." Care says and I squeeze her hand.
"I know sorry, I was just in my thoughts." I say and feel her wrapping her arms around me. She knows that I think of Stefan. I always think of him but today it's crushing me, like a year ago when I gave birth to Ella.
"I hope, he will be here with you maybe next year." she says and I hold back my tears.
"Me too, so much." I whisper and fight hard my tears, I know they will fall tonight in my bed.
"Let's go prepare our picnic. Liv and Nik will come eat with us for lunch."
I nod and head with her towards the kitchen. "We make a tomato salad ?"
"Yes. I make sandwich, it's okay with you ?"
"Yes, and we can take stewed fruits and mashed potatoes for girls." she says by cutting tomatoes.
"Of course. I go check on girls." I say and leave. I look at Em sleeping peacefully and Ella turns in her sleep, she sighs in relief when I kiss her forehead slowly.
It's 12:45 and everyone is in the park with me and Ella for her birthday. Liv, her husband Marc and Alexia their daughter who has five years. Nik, Care, Em and Caroline's mom Liz. My second family. I smile and kiss my daughter.
Everyone finish her lunch and I cut her cake. This is a cake with a princess top and cut in several slides.
She is like her father, full of energy and her facial expressions are totally him. Her beautiful green eyes, so full of love for everyone around her. "Mama.." she says and shows me a butterfly with her finger on the branch of the tree above us.
"It's a butterfly, baby girl." I say and see Nik watching me interacting with Ella. I smile at him and he nods at me.
"Plll." she gets up from my legs and tries to walk to the trunk.
"No, you can't have it. It will fly away." I say and I hold one of her hand even if she shakes her head at me, saying to me 'I-don't-want-your-help'.
"You can sit in the grass and play with Alexia." I say and begin to pack away everything and smile when I see Nik helping me after kissing Care on her lips and Em's head.
"You okay ?" he asks.
"Yes, I'm good. She is happy it's all that matters." I say and twist my fingers together.
"You are happy ?"
"Yes, I am." he squeezes my shoulders and kisses my forehead reassuringly.
"He is not good. I swear he knows something going on today because he called me three times since this morning. He always asks if I know where you are."
I nod and turn my attention towards Alexia and Ella. She will walk soon, I can feel it. Alexia holds her hands and Ella starts walking to me. Alexia drops her hands from Ella's and Ella takes three steps towards me without Alexia's help.
I crouched down and she reaches me. "Baby girl, you have walked. Your first step !" I exclaim happily.
"Mama !" she throws herself into my arms. I take her in my arms and she giggles.
"You are here, baby ?"Stefan asks me.
"Humm, what ? Yes, I'm here." I say and lean into him when he pushes me against him.
"Where have you been ?" he asks, rubbing my belly.
"I was thinking about Ella's first birthday." I see his face falls because of my words. "I'm sorry."
"It's me that I'm sorry for not being there with you." he says and I see pain in his eyes.
"Don't Stefan. It's not your fault it's mine, I take a lot of picture for you because I hoped that maybe one day you will be here with us." I say and take his face in my hands. So, he can't look away from my eyes. "You have to trust me on this, I always thought of you during her birthday because I knew that you will be so proud of her. She made her first steps that day and Liz filmed it. Every second of that day I think of you, because even if you couldn't be here physically I knew that we had a special connection and I hoped that you thought of me that day. I love you, Stefan I have never give up on us."
"I love you so much, baby." he says and kisses me hard, holding my head in his hands.
"Sorry, for interrupting you little bro. But I can say hello to your beautiful woman ?" Damon voice says and I open my eyes.
"Damon, what are you doing here ?" I ask surprised and hug him.
"I wouldn't miss my niece birthday for the world. And Bonnie wants to see Ella as well." he says and kiss my cheek.
"How is your future wife ?" I ask and turn around when I see Bonnie and Ella enter the kitchen.
"I'm fine and you ?" she smiles and we hug each other.
"I'm good and fat." I say playfully. "You are not fat, you are pregnant." Stefan says and kisses my cheek.
"Mommy when grandma Liz come soon ?" Ella asks and looks at me with her green eyes.
"Yes, I think. Ask Auntie Care, she must know." I say and before I can finish she is already in the patio asking Caroline.
"Grandma Liz ?" Stefan asks with a questioning look. "I will explain later, babe."
"Okay. Go outside and sit in a chair, I take care of everything." he says and kisses my knuckles.
"Thank you." I say and walks in the patio, sitting next to Care. "How is my nephew ?" I ask smiling.
"He is good, don't stop kicking." she says rubbing her belly.
"Thank you for coming here, today but you have to rest." I say and we drink a cool lemonade.
"I'm fine, don't worry. My husband is here watching me carefully all the time, in case something happens." she says and I look at him watching us smiling and running after Emily and Ella laughing. They try to run as fast as their legs can bring them.
It's 16:00 and her birthday full swing. She is so happy running in the garden with her friends. There are a lot of activities, a bouncy castle with a water slide, a clown. She is smiling from ear to ear and I'm so happy that Stefan is here with her.
I'm sitting between Stefan legs in a lounge chair and have my head in the crook of his neck, inhaling his incredible scent with his hands around my waist rubbing my belly. I feel our children kicking inside and I put my hands on his, intertwine our finger together. I lift my head and kiss him softly on the lips.
"I love you, baby." he says against my lips and I smile wrapping my arms around his neck. I bring his lips on mine again, favoring his lips against mine and pull away breathless.
"I love you too, babe." I say and he pulls me against him tightly. He rocks me from side to side and I'm falling asleep in his arms and before I can I hear something ringing.
"I think I hear the door ring." I say to Stefan and get up. "I can go if you want."
"No, babe. Stay here and I have to use the bathroom anyway."
I head for the front door and open it. "Hello Elena." she says but she can't be here, not today.
"What are you doing here ?" I ask and she laughs.
I begin to feel bad and I need Stefan with me, now. "Stefan.." I say and feel him behind me, wrapping his arms around me and gasping when he see the woman in front of us. The next thing I know that everything goes black.
