Chapter twenty-one.
Stefan's POV.
It's Sunday and it's the day I ask Elena to marry me. I'm quite nervous about that, I run my hand through my hair and watch my daughter eating her breakfast. My future wife, is in the bathroom getting ready before going to Care's. It's been four days since Caroline leaves the hospital and I can tell that Elena is dying to see Ethan again.
"Daddy, do you want some of my toast ?" Ella asks at me and shows me her toast half chewing.
"No, baby. Thank you, I'm not hungry this morning." I say and take a sip of my coffee.
"Do you come see baby Ethan with us this morning ?" she asks smiling.
"Yes but I have something to do with Uncle Nik." I say and kiss Elena on her forehead when she sits next to me. "Do you want some toast baby ?"
"No, I will take some granola." she responds and I serve her smiling down at her.
"Thank you, babe." she says and nuzzles my neck softly.
"Can I have coffee ?" she asks even if she knows the answer.
"No, it's not good for the babies and you know it." I say and rub her belly, feeling the kicks of our babies. She pouts and I laugh. "You're so cute when you pout."
"I love you." she says and I kiss her lips chastely.
"Daddy ! Mommy !" I feel our daughter jumping on my laps and I have to separate our lips.
"Don't kiss Mommy !" she says and I brush her hair out of her face.
"I love kissing Mommy." I grin at her and kiss her forehead.
"Do you love kissing Daddy ?" Ella turns towards Elena with a question look.
"Of course, I love." she responds blushing.
"Finish your breakfast sweetie, we are late." I say and kiss Elena forehead before wiping Ella mouth.
"Where are you going Daddy ?" Ella asks for the hundred times since we are in the car.
"I can't tell you, honey." I respond and rub circles on Elena thighs calming her down, I don't know why but she seems nervous about something and she didn't tell me.
"What's going on baby ?" I ask her in her ear.
"Nothing, don't worry." she says and kisses my neck.
"This conversation is not over." I murmur and she gives me a small smile.
We arrive at Caroline's a few minutes later and I can't shake the feeling that Elena is not fine. She smiles at Caroline and I know she saw that Elena is not well and they will talk after I left. I will don't push her on that, she will tell me with she is ready.
"Nik, we have to go !" I say when I kiss the girls and rub Elena's belly.
"I love you." I murmur in her ear softly.
"Don't worry I'm fine, we are all fine." she says locking her eyes with mine. "And I love you too so much."
"Bye Love, call me if you need me." Nik says and kisses Ethan's forehead.
"Lena is here to help me." Caroline says and kisses him softly.
Elena's POV.
I know that Stefan is worried, I can see the pain in his eyes when I say that nothing going on because he knows me better than anyone else but I can't tell him. I have to talk to Caroline before.
"How are you ?" Care asks me when Stefan and Nik leave us and the girls playing in the meadow.
"Not good." I whisper and hold back tears rubbing my belly.
"What's going on ?" she asks squeezing my hand.
"My.. my mom called." I whisper and she takes me in her arms.
"Do you want to talk about this ?"
"She... she wants to see me, she sees photos of Stefan and I together last weekend. I can't see her, Care and I can't talk to Stefan about that because I know that he hates her for what she did to me."
"Sweetie, you have to tell him. He knows you and I see his face when he leaves you, he didn't want to leave but he did it for you. You didn't really told me what happened with your step father but if someone can help you it's him." she says and hugs me.
"I can't Care, he really hates her for bring him in my life but I know that you're right. I will tell him tonight when we will be at home." I say and I see her smile.
"You don't go home tonight, honey. He has a surprise for you but I can't tell you, I promised him but you will love it."
"Caroline Mikaelson ! Tell me, now !" I say and wipe my tears away.
"I can't but I swear that you will love it." she says and we spend the afternoon talking and taking care of Ethan and the girls.
"Auntie Lena, you have to get dressed for tonight." Emily says to me when I have Ethan in my arms.
"Oh okay but I don't have anything here." I say and she takes my arms so I have to follow her.
"Mommy said she has something in her room for you." Em says and I enter in Caroline's room.
I gasp when I see a beautiful long dress, black tighten at the waist and show all my curves and my pregnant belly.
"Stefan chose it for you.." I hear Care saying behind me and I turn around.
"It's beautiful.." I murmur, close to tears again.
"It is, he wants you to wear this with." she says and gives me a beautiful necklace with a single diamond. She deposits the box next to the dress and kisses my forehead before leaving me.
Stefan's POV.
"Baby, are you ready ?" I ask Elena for the third time.
"I'm coming." she says and walks in the room with Ella in her arms. "You can't carry her, come with me Ella."
"Daddy, Mommy is very pretty isn't she ?" Ella says in my arms and I kiss her forehead.
"She is beautiful just like you." I say smiling.
"Grandma Liz will come to pick you up in twenty minutes, baby girl." she nods and runs towards Emily who looks at Ethan.
"Shall we, baby ?" I say and wrap my arms around her waist.
"Where are we going ?" she asks and nuzzles my neck.
"It's a surprise." I whisper in her ear and kiss her hair.
We are heading down the boat and I see Elena smiling. She squeezes my hand and I kiss her hair, we don't need words to speak because I know that she loves navigate. I get her on board and we shake hands with Ben the squipper.
"Stefan, it's beautiful.." she says when she enters in the cabin and sees that they are flowers everywhere and a table stand.
"It's December 15 and it's been exactly 6 years since we know each other." I say and caress her cheek. She leans in my touch and I kiss her forehead.
"I love you, Stefan." she says and I kiss her lips sweetly.
"Are you hungry ?" I ask and I pull her chair. She sits down and I sit next to her, waiting for the waitress to serve us our appetizer.
After in amazing dinner, I take her on the dock and she sits between my legs looking at the stars. "You okay, baby ?"
"Humm.." she mumbles and puts her head on my shoulder.
"I love you, Elena." I say and kiss her hair. She turns around and I back up slightly, just enough so I have room to reach into my pocket for the box I stashed there before leaving our house and to drop to a knee before her, taking the shock on her face and the happiness in her eyes. "Elena, I love you more than you can possibly imagine. I want to wake up every morning because I know you will be beside me and I know that there will be our children running towards our bedroom to wake us up I want to give you the world, and there is nothing else in the world that matters to me more than those things. Elena, I need you in my life and I want you to need me in yours. You're already everything I've ever wanted. Give me the chance to prove it to you, Elena. Be my wife. Marry me."
I look at her and see tears in her eyes, happy tears I hope. "Yes, yes a million times yes !" she says and kisses me passionately.
"Can I put it on your finger ?" I ask and she nods her head while holding out her shaking left hand. It's a solitaire diamond, five carat and several little diamond all around the solitaire.
"I love you so much, Stefan." she says and I wrap my arms around her waist pushing her against the lounge chair slowly.
