Wow, I got a really positive response last chapter! Thanks so much, you guys! You have no idea how happy your reviews make me! You're the best!
As for the Everlark relationship, I think I'll have the relationship really start developing in three or four chapters. I hope you guys don't mind waiting that long.
Last time:
I nod slowly. I take a moment to regain my breath. "Finnick, I-I think something might have happened. I don't want you to get upset and leave me, but I'm so fucking scared and I don't know what to do. I mean - I'm not sure, but I think - God, I don't know! All I know is that I'm terrified of what's going to happen."
"Woah, Annie, slow down. What happened?"
"I-I think I'm pregnant."
Finnick's POV
My eyes widen in surprise. Could I really have done this to her? I ask myself. Am I the reason she had a psychotic break?
She misunderstands my silence as anger, and she starts crying again. "I'm so sorry, Finnick! I know this kind of thing can ruin someone's life - I didn't want this to happen, I promise. I'm sorry, this is all my fault!"
I stare at her, unsure of how she can actually think I'd blame her for this. "Annie, you can't possibly think I blame you. If it's anyone's fault, it's mine! This isn't something you can control, Annie."
She sniffles. "So you're not mad at me?"
"God, no!" I exclaim. "You didn't do anything wrong!"
She leans against me, and I hold her tightly. "What did you mean when you said that you think?" I ask her, thinking back to the earlier conversation. "Are you not sure?"
"I guess I'm not. I haven't taken a test, yet," she says. "I just come here."
"We should definitely go do that," I say. "There's a drugstore just down the road."
She understands what I'm saying and slides over to the passenger seat, buckling her seatbelt.
"You're handling this really well, Annie," I reassure her, starting the car.
She laughs bitterly, surprising me. It's not a sound I thought would come out of her. "I'm really not. I had a psychotic break."
I don't have anything to say to that because it's true. It's ridiculous to deny the truth.
I pull into the drugstore parking lot and glance over at Annie. "Do you want me to get it for you?" I ask.
She nods, so I step out of the car alone.
I walk into the store and quickly find the test.
"Wow, the cashier girl says as I hand her the pregnancy test.
"Don't judge me," I snap.
She grins. "I'm not. Actually, I'm impressed."
I raise an eyebrow at her, so she elaborates. "You see, girls come in here all the time to buy a pregnancy test. It's just the world we live in. But I practically never see the father buy the test. Especially when they're not married." She adds that last part as an afterthought, glancing at my left hand.
"Glad to know that I'm the most decent in a long line of assholes," I mutter.
"Just because you knocked up your girlfriend doesn't mean you're an asshole," she says, handing me the test. "Everyone has needs, you just forgot to use protection."
"I never forgot to use protection," I snap.
"Condoms?" she asks, unfazed. I nod. "They're unreliable. Only prevents pregnancy 98% of the time. Remember that in the future."
I roll my eyes. "Thanks for the advice," I say as I leave the store.
I speed home, blowing off every stoplight and sign. This is important.
The second we walk through the doors, we rush up the stairs and into our bathroom, ignoring the strange looks Johanna, Peeta, and Gale give us.
I hand Annie the test. "Do you want me to leave?"
"Yes," she says. "I'll be out in a minute."
"I'll be downstairs," I tell her. "Just come downstairs when you're ready. Got it?"
She nods, and I exit.
As I enter the kitchen, Johanna, Gale, and Peeta stare at me.
"What the fuck is going on?" Johanna demands. Blunt, as always.
"Nothing," I say, without any emotion.
"Bullshit," Johanna snaps. "Tell me what the hell is happening."
"I don't know what you're talking about," I say.
"Oh, so Annie just freaked out and left the house this morning without any fucking reason," Johanna growls. "Because that makes perfect sense!"
I sigh, annoyed that she won't shut up about this. It really isn't any of her business. "Look, Johanna, let this go. I understand that this might be hard for you due to your obnoxious, abrasive personality, but just listen to me on this!"
"You little-" she begins, but is quickly interrupted.
"Johanna," Gale says. "If it involved us, I'm sure Finnick would say something."
She turns her glare away from me and to Gale. If looks could kill...
After a few moments of their stare down, Johanna makes a strange, guttural sound of anger. She grabs her jacket off the kitchen counter and storms out of the room.
"I'll be gone for a while, so don't wait up," she shouts angrily as she leaves.
I roll my eyes at her dramatics. This isn't a soap opera, there's no need to for temper tantrums.
Johanna's POV
I wind up just driving up the coast having nothing else to do, furious with everyone.
I should be allowed to worry about the few people I actually don't despise, I think for about the hundredth time. It's what you're supposed to do.
A plan begins to form in my head. It may not be a very nice plan, and - to be fair- there are definitely better ones. But those all involve diplomacy, a skill which I've always lacked.
I find myself smiling at the thought. I haven't needed social-skills yet in life, and I honestly don't think I ever will.
Finnick's POV (again)
"Finnick," Annie says from beside me at the coffee table. "It's been fifteen minutes. Time's up."
I immediately run upstairs, Annie close behind me. That exchange probably confused peeta and Gale even more.
Once we get to our room, I look over at Annie. She's visibly shaking.
I pull her into my arms and rest my chin on top of her head. Though she isn't short, I'm very tall, which gives me the ability to do this.
"Annie," I murmur. "Whatever happens, it's gonna be okay. We'll be okay."
"I'm so scared, Finn," she whispers.
"I am too," I admit, "but we're strong. We'll do what we have to do."
"Finnick?"
"Yeah?"
"I don't think I can do it."
"Of course you can," I tell her. "Annie, if you are pregnant, I'm sure you'll be fine."
She chuckles slightly, confusing me. "I meant look at the test, Finn. I'm too afraid to check."
"Oh," I say, feeling stupid. "I can do that."
"Thank you," she says.
I let her go, and she moves to sit on the bed and I enter the bathroom. The test is laying neatly on the countertop. I pick it up gently, my hands shaking. Two pink lines stare up at me.
I let out a ragged breath and open the door, discarding the test in the waste basket as I do so. Annie looks up at me expectantly.
I simply nod in response.
I know it's rather short and not my best, but please review anyway! Remember my rule!
