A.N. Hai! I'm really sorry for not updating sooner – but school is almost out for me, and I will be updating hopefully on a regular basis.

The tryouts were drawing even closer, as only five days remained until the big event was taking place. Held in the PWT of the colorful region of Unova, four Trainers for each type were selected – on a basis of merit and talent. The lists of all the Trainers trying out for the positions of Gym Leader were supposed to be top-secret, and held in the database of the Pokémon League.

But for one tech-savvy, mathematics loving Trainer hailing from Johto, the information wasn't going to be so top-secret anymore.

Sitting in an empty house on Route 44, a small, one roomed house with a wooden table, kitchen, and small bedroom area set divided from the rest of the room with a sheet, this precocious female was currently in the process of hacking into the Pokémon League database from her small laptop, a feat which she had accomplished twice before. Her fingers typed ferociously on the beaten keyboard as she bypassed window after window, security measure after security measure, until the information she had been working on obtaining for about half and hour lay in front of her on her computer. However, getting into the database in a short amount of time was crucial - after all, the people who lived in the house could come back at any time.

But, a few short minutes later, the database was cracked open, and its secrets exposed for her to see. She navigated effortlessly through the menus, and eventually found the Baliar Island Data. The brunette clicked on the Gym Leader data, and a separate window popped up. With the click of a small button at the top of the menu, the window was enlarged, showing the first set of data on the aspiring Gym Leaders.

"Child's play," the Trainer muttered. "You'd think that they'd learn." Her Pokémon companion, a Furret that was named Fyur, nodded in agreement.

"Fur, furre." Fyur said, pointing at the screen. His tiny paw was pointing at a photo of a Pokémon Trainer who was in their teenage years. She had brown hair pulled into pigtails, a black page cap with a white ribbon perched on her head, as well as an orange and maroon hoodie. She also wore cargo pants and red sneakers, and a calculating look was on her face, reinforced by her blue eyes. The caption on the photo read: Robin, Johto.

"You're absolutely right, Fyur, that is me." Robin grinned, scrolling through her own data. "Now, let's see here. Home region, Johto. Age, 15. Badges, 16. Tournament team…Furret, Typhlosion, Umbreon, Mamoswine, Dragonite, Starmie. Tryout team – Furret, Khangaskhan, Lopunny, Exploud, Porygon-Z, Ambipom. Well, they've been doin' their homework." Robin said approvingly. "What else? Vital info. Height, 4'11." She paused and looked at the screen disapprovingly. "I thought I was 5'0!"

"Furret." Fyur sighed as his Trainer glared at the screen. "Furre, furr."

"No, no." Robin muttered. "Let's just look at my competition." With that, she began scrolling through the rest of the Baliar Island data that was held in the database. "Okay…Mortimo. Doesn't look like much of a threat…but he does have a Stoutland. Well, movin' right along…Regan. She doesn't look very threatenin'. She's got a Blissey, though…eh. Last, but not least – Peter. Hmn. Looks like more trouble than the rest." She paused, then looked over at Fyur. "But we've got a secret strategy."

"Furrr." Fyur agreed. Robin smiled at the ferret-like Pokémon and was about to close out the window, until the brown and beige striped Pokémon put a paw on her shoulder. "Fur, furr! Furret!"

"What's wrong?" Robin asked.

"Furrr." Fyur said, pointing at the screen. More Trainer data was under Peter's, and upon noticing this, Robin's face broke into a huge grin.

"You're right, Fyur," the brunette said. "As long as we're here, we might as well check out the rest, huh?" Fyur nodded as his Trainer began to scroll down into the Fire data. "Well, let's see here. The four Fire Trainers are…Mary, Ronald, Dominic, and…Red Eyes?" Both Trainer and Pokémon did a double take upon reading this peculiar name. "What kind of a name is that?" Robin asked, scrolling down to see his data. "Huh. An ex-Pokémon Pincher? Never heard of that before. His team looks pretty intact, though. Blaziken, Charizard, Typhlosion, a Magmortar…" Robin whistled. "Pretty impressive. And an Arcanine, as well as a Houndoom! No wonder they selected him." She began scrolling past his data until she got to the Water Trainers, but continued scrolling downscreen until she got to Electric Types, and a familiar name popped out at her. "CASEY?!"

"Furrr…" Fyur shrugged.

"What business does that brat have tryin' out for a spot? That girl has more pep in her than a whole team of cheerleaders!" Robin raged. "Ugh! If I have to look at her stupid face one more time, I'm gonna scream! That brat nearly blew up my Pokédex, and here she is, tryin' out for a position as an ELECTRIC type Gym Leader!" She growled angrily and nearly pounded the keyboard, but settled for pounding the wooden table she was sitting at instead. "Crap! Why her?! And look at her team, Fyur! Electivire, Manetric, Eelektross, Heliolisk, Raicu, Minun - she'll cause a power outage!"

"Fur, furre, furret." Fyur said comfortingly. "Fur, furr."

"Yes, yes, you're right. Just forget her." Robin sighed, continuing to scroll through the rest of the data. "What else, what else…huh?! Fairy types?!" Sure enough, on the screen was the data for the first Fairy Trainer, a teen named Mackenzie. "Wasn't Professor Elm sayin' something about that a while ago? Or maybe it was Crystal. Well, it couldn't hurt to have a small look-see." She resumed her scrolling as she said the names of the Trainers out loud. "Well…Mackenzie, Marissa, Francis…Nikki. Huh. Actually, I've never heard of some of these before... " Robin paused and tapped a finger on her chin as she looked at the Fairy Type data. "Sylveon...Florges...Slurpluff...Aromatisse...what kind of names are those?" With a shrug, Robin bypassed the Fairy type and continued down the page. "Fightin', Flyin'…oh, hey, another ex-Pincher. Wonder what's up with that?" Robin mused, but continued to scroll. "Psychic...Poison…Ghost…urgh, creepy. Steel types, and that looks to be it."

A small smirk began to grow on the teenager's face as another thought occurred to her. With a few more clicks of her mouse, Robin exited the Gym Leader data and clicked on the "E4 and Champion" menu. Fyur stared at the screen, bamboozled as his Trainer began to scroll casually through the top-secret information. "Furrrr? Ret, furret?"

"Well, think of it this way, Fyur," Robin said, pausing her scrolling. "The Elite Four and the Champion were decided weeks ago - through different tryouts. Sure, they'll be announced at the Gym Leader and Coordinator Tryouts, but why not just take a peek now?" Fyur nodded, and Robin enlarged the E4 window which held the prized information that she was looking for.

"First member...Ritchie. Pokémon team: Charizard, Pikachu, Tyranitar, Swellow, Butterfree, Glaceon. Impressive," Robin remarked. She took a small notepad out of her brown messenger bag and flipped to a new page. The brunette then took out a pencil and scribbled Ritchie's information down on the clean page. "He comes from Frodomar City, in Kanto...weird, never heard of that place before. Well, next..."

Robin continued to scroll downwards until she reached the next Elite Four member: "Gary Oak. No kiddin', huh Fyur? Lesee, Pokémon Team: Blastoise, Electivire, Umbreon, Arcanine, Dodrio, Scizor. Well, nothin' I wouldn't expect from the son of Professor Oak," Robin said, scribbling Gary's information down as Fyur looked on with interest. "Next...Paul."

"Furrr." Fyur mumbled, pointing at the screen. "Fyurrrrrr, fu."

"Oh, yeah..." Robin sighed. "We ran into him once, didn't we? Right jerk, he was." Fyur nodded and hopped down from Robin's shoulder onto the table, nearly upsetting the furniture. "Watch it! Okay, according to this, he's got an Electivire, Aggron, Ninjask, Drapion, Froslass, and Ursaring. Born in Veilstone City, in the Sinnoh region...blah. Who gives a crap?" Nevertheless, the Johto native still wrote the third member's data down in her notebook, Fyur shaking his head. "Next, Hareta. He uses an Empoleon, Luxray, Lucario, Crobat, Regigi - holy Miltank, Fyur!" Fyur peered intently at the screen, then let out a cry of surprise.

"Fu, furret!"

"Yeah, I'm as dumstruck as you, Fyur...no wonder this guy's in the Elite Four! Not only that, he's also got a Minun. This guy must have some battlin' chops, huh?"

The two still reeling from the surprise of Hareta having a Regigigas, Robin scrolled down to the Champion's data. "Huh?" Robin said, looking at the screen. "Well, not a normal team by any standards. Hypno, Mismagius, Cresselia, Darkrai, Altaria, Musharna. But, still...a Cresselia and Darkrai...that's no good."

Fyur sighed, mimicking his Trainer. "Furret, fur, rret."

"Yeah, you're right." Robin sighed, closing out the window and exiting the Pokémon League Database. She stood up and shut down her computer, then took rested her messenger bag on the now vacant chair. After disconnecting the mouse, she placed the small computer gently in a special compartment in her bag, along with the mouse. "Urgh...maybe the Frontier Brains won't be as busy as I thought they would be..."

"Furr." Fyur agreed, jumping up on Robin's shoulder as the brunette slung her messenger bag over her shoulder.

"I didn't look at the Frontier Brain or Coordinator data..." Robin mused to herself as she walked out of the house, Fyur perched on her shoulder. "But, I'll look at that later. I'll probably check out the Gym Leader data in more detail..."

And as the two began their trek to Olivine City, where they would take a boat to Unova, Robin couldn't help feel a little bit of apprehension.

What was with the Champion, anyway?
