A\N: This chapter is dedicated to a reader and friend who gave me the idea for the scene where Diego finally starts to except help; I don't think its the person anyone really expected but I think it really works and would like to thank her for the idea.

Chapter 21
"No! No! No!" Diego stared at the nurse that was trying to give her his medication, "I'm not taking it! And you can't make me!"
"Diego," Laura sighed looking at her son, "Sweetie please take it?" She said as if asking nicely would make a difference, it didn't.
"I don't need it! Just leave me alone!"
"Thanks Clare," Laura looked at the nurse apologetically, "I guess Diego is just going to be in pain today."
"Diego that wasn't nice," Violet informed him, as she looked away from the card game she was playing with Matt.
"Shut up!" Diego turned and glared at her, "I hate you, so shut up!"
"Diego, you know that wasn't very nice," Laura stared at him. She knew underneath all of this act he really did care and she was determined to get him to see that, to be like that caring, sweet boy again.
"Knock, knock," Antonio knocked on the door before walking in, "Diego there's someone here to see you."
"I don't care," Diego wouldn't even look at his father.
"Now that's not very nice," the raspy voice of Hank Voight said and he stepped into the room behind Antonio, "I come here to talk to you and you can't even say hello?"
"Hi Sergeant Voight," Diego wave but still didn't look at him.
"Uh-huh," He huffed and stared down at the boy.
"Hi!" Violet spoke up and waved in the vague direction of Sergeant Voight, "My names Violet!"
"Hi Violet," He turned and smiled, "I work with your Uncle Antonio."
"You're his boss," She concluded, "Because Sergeant is higher then Detective. I know because yesterday I watched Jeopardy." She smiled proudly; Jeopardy was one of the only shows she could watch on TV that her vision wasn't a problem, for. She'd been watching it for weeks and looked forward to it every day.
"Very good," He praised.
"Alright Violet," Matt stood and took her into his arms, "Lets let Diego talk to Sergeant Voight and Uncle Antonio and Aunt Laura. We can go call Gabby and see how she and your brothers are doing."
"Yay!" Violet cheered and happily went with Matt out of the room.
"We'll be out in the hallway Diego," Laura stood and kissed her son's forehead, "Sergeant Voight is going to talk to you for awhile alright."
"I don't want to talk."
"That's alright, I'll talk and you can listen," Hank replied, "Now how about we start with something easy like your cousin Violet."
"She's my adoptive cousin. She doesn't call my Aunt Gabby and Uncle Matt 'Mom' and 'Dad' because she doesn't want to, Is that why Detective Lindsay doesn't call you 'Dad' is it because she doesn't want to?"
He was startled, He'd never been asked that question before, he'd never adopted Erin just been her legal guardian but adoption was never even discussed. He supposed though in an unofficial way he was, as he thought of her as his daughter and she thought of him as her father. "You could say that."
"Detective Halstead told me that. He told me you were Detective Lindsay's father; but Daddy laughed."
"Detective Halstead gets confused sometimes. Your Dad does a good job of keeping him in line.
"Detective Halstead is cool."
"Yeah he can be cool," Voight knew he needed to be the one to bring up the more difficult areas of discussion. "So what's this I hear about you saying getting shot doesn't hurt?"
"It doesn't," Diego responded; ironically as he cringed in pain from moving to fast, "I'm fine."
"You are? You know that's what police officers say but it doesn't always mean its true. You know your father's been shot a few times right?"
"He says it hurts but I've never seen him cry," Diego told him, "So I don't know why he hates me."
"Hates you? He may be frustrated right now but he doesn't hate you. Now why don't you tell me what's really going on."
Frowning Diego did everything he could not to look right at Voight; "No everyone will just get more mad. Why do I have to," He sobbed.
"Everyone's just worried about you son," Voight tried to console him, "I've been really upset before; I know its hard to accept help but its important too."
"When we're you really sad?"
Voight didn't like to talk about his wife dying but knew he'd brought up the subject, "When Detective Lindsay was around your older sister's age my wife died of Cancer. I was so worried about looking after her and my son that I really didn't show any emotion but I cried; just not in front of my kids."
"Why?"
"Well because I wanted to protect them. I thought if I cried then maybe it would make them more upset and I didn't want that. Do you understand?"
"Uh-huh," He nodded his head and more tears came down his cheeks, "I love my family and I don't want them upset. I tried to be like Daddy but it didn't work!"
"You are like your father Diego," Voight patted his hand gently.
"Can you get Mommy and Daddy please?"
"Of course," He stood and left the room only to return seconds later with Laura and Antonio.
"I'm sorry Mommy and Daddy!" Diego apologized as soon as he saw them, "Please don't hate me!"
Laura hugged him as tight as possible, "We could never hate you Diego. Never," She kissed his forehead, "Don't you ever think that."
Antonio was next, "Your mother's right kiddo, we love you and we could never have you. We're so worried about you and we just want you to get better. Can you let us do that? Do you want to take some medication?"
"Okay Daddy," He slowly nodded his head, "Where's Violet?"
"I think she's still with Uncle Matt. She should be back soon though."
"Okay, I want to see her," He tried to smile but looked up at his parents, "Can I sleep after I get the medication?"
"Of course you can," Antonio sat down on the bed beside him, "I'll stay with you alright. Make sure you don't have any nightmares alright?"
"Okay Daddy," He nodded slowly.
"There's nothing I can do Mr. Casey, Ms. Dawson," Mr. Gregson apologized, "I wish there was but according to the State Violet's missed to much school to graduate. That's not even considering everything else that's happened."
Matt and Gabby knew that it was a long shot for Violet to graduate but they knew she'd be devastated if she couldn't be in Annabelle's class; or even in the same grade, "We're going to work really hard with her over the summer and she's seeing a lot of specialists."
"That's great," He nodded, "Now will she need any support from an EA? If so, we should start filling out those forums soon."
"Oh?" Neither one had really thought about that before. "I'm not really sure," Matt shook his head, "She might need help with reading but if she has bigger font sizes."
"That can be arranged but its again another fourm," He informed them, "And I also can't guarantee she'll get the help or resources she needs unfortunately the budget only covers so much and sometimes things children need don't get provided. I can promise to do everything I can but I'm not sure what that'll do."
"Thank you," Gabby nodded; her head spinning with all of the new information they'd just received.
"You're welcome," He stood and walked them to the office door.
"I never thought about any of that," Gabby admitted as she and Matt walked back down the hallway, "Can we talk about sending her to a private school? One for children that are blind and deaf?"
"I don't know," Matt rubbed his face, "Maybe. "He knew they were thinking the same thing. Money. How were they supposed to afford everything they needed? Something had to give and there wedding was slipping further and further down the list of importance.
