Chapter 22

"I think this school will be good for her Matt," Gabby said as she scanned the 'about' page on the local elementary school for the blind, "She'd learn to reads braille but also learn how to read big text and she's be in a small; class with lots of help. It says here they don't go by grades so much as ages so all the children are working at their own level." She explained as she clicked on a link about bussing information, "And look we're in the bussing area," She said, "I really think this is the best opportunity for her."

"I agree," Matt only wanted was best for her and this was it, "I'll see what I can do about getting more construction jobs and maybe I can work part-time at the academy too," He tried to think of ways they could earn more money as the school would be expensive.

"I'll see what I can do too," Gabby told him, "I'm sure I could do something."

"You staying at home with the kids is enough," Matt kissed her on the lips.

Hearing a crash followed by Violet's screams they ran into her room, "Sweetie," Matt raced to her, "What happened?"

"I-I need to go to the washroom," She sniffled, "But I couldn't find my glasses and I fell."

"Oh sweetie," He hugged her and helped her up. She'd been at home for two days and they already knew they'd need to make a lot of adjustments for her. Her bedroom needed some work done. Things needed bright colours and everything needed to have a place so Violet could gain some independence skills.

She had her walking stick now and was still in therapy but she was still getting used to living at home and it was a challenge for sure, "Matt," She cried softly, "I want to see."

"I know sweetheart," He soothed her, "Come on," He carefully lifted her up and carried her out of the room.

"No Gabby," Violet cried. She wanted Gabby to help her in the washroom.

"Okay," Matt set her on the ground and Gabby walked up to her and took her hand and took her into the washroom.

Violet tried to feel around for things but she was simply to tired and she began to sob, "Don't help!" She screamed as Gabby neared her but she was to tired and emotional Gabby had to help her.

"Come her sweetie," She took her hands and saw that she had an accident. "Oh sweetie," She felt like crying herself; it had been a frustrating few days with her at home but she couldn't imagine what it had been like for Violet, "Lets get you changed alright."

"I'm sorry Gabby," She pouted and her lower lip trembled, "Only babies have accidents."

"No, no sweetie you have nothing to be sorry for," She assured her, "Now lets just get you changed and back into bed. It's late.

Violet only nodded her head and didn't say another word to Gabby; not even as she tucked her back into bed and sad 'I love you'

"Kelly!" Leslie called over her shoulder as she paused the TV; an idea already forming in her head "Come here for a second!"

"Yeah," He rushed into the room, "What's up? Baby, need something?"

"No, no," She shook her head looking down briefly at Caleb who was sleeping soundly in her arms, "Listen to this," She rewound the TV.

Kelly listened to the news reporter's talk about a contest the station was running. It was for a dream wedding completely paid for and a week honeymoon in Aruba. All that needed to be done was so submit a video no longer then five minutes accompanied by a report on why the couple deserved to win it.

"If anybody deserves this its Gabby and Matt," Leslie said after the segment ended, "They've sacrificed so much and they deserve this. What do you think? You willing to help me out?"

"Of course," He grinned, "We can use your video camera and get some of Violet talking and Antonio and maybe Gabby's parents an the guys at fifty-one too."

"Yeah," She nodded, "Lets make sure there's no doubt they'll win this."

"We can do that," He grinned, "I'll start on tonight's shift and let everyone know. You wanna tell Laura and Antonio?"

"Sure," She nodded, "I'm sure Laura and I can come up some ideas. Her parents probably have some too."

"Yeah and they know people," He pointed out, "Especially her father."

"Yeah," She nodded, "But we can win this for them without any of that crap," She assured him, "Here," She handed over Caleb and got out her cell phone to call Laura to begin making a plan. The deadline for the submissions was in three weeks and Leslie didn't' want to loose anytime.

After getting off the phone with Leslie Laura looked at the notes she'd jotted down on the piece of paper, "Diego, Eva," She got her oldest two to look at her, "We're planning a really big surprise for Aunt Gabby and Uncle Matt. You guys want to help?"

"Yes!" Eva jumped at the chance, she loved her aunt and uncle and loved surprises, "What is it?"

"WMAQ is holding a contest for couples dream wedding and a honeymoon, all paid for. So we're going to help Leslie and Kelly make a video saying why Aunt Gabby and Uncle Matt deserve to win it. Violet's going to help out to so what do you guys say? Wanna help?"

"Yeah," They both nodded happily.

"What do we need to do?" Diego wondered.

"First why don't we get Violet to come over to our house so we can do some filming," Laura found her sister in-law's number on her cell phone.

"I'm not hungry," Violet pushed her sandwich away from her and frowned. Ever since her accident the night before she'd hardly said a word and at breakfast she only ate an apple and drank orange juice. "I don't want anything."

"Sweetie you need to eat," Gabby looked at her, "Can you try to eat?"

"I said no!" She yelled. "No! No!"

Gabby knew Violet's los of independence was going to be a problem but she had hope since she was doing so well in the hospital towards the end. When she had her next appointment in two days, Gabby needed to remember to ask her therapist why she was having such a hard time at home and how she and Matt could best support and help her.

"Can I go in my room?" Violet asked Gabby.

"Sweetie why-" Gabby was cut off by her phone ringing, "Hang on," She saw it was Laura and answered it. "Hey Laur," She greeted her sister in-law.

"Hey Gabby. The kids, especially Diego was wondering if Violet would like to come over next week for the day.

"Sure," Gabby responded then walking out of the room and lowering her voice she said, "She's having a hard time right now though."

"That's fine; Diego's been having some difficulties with nightmares but I think having her over would help him. Can she come on Wednesday?

"Yeah sure Matt working days so I'll just have the twins at home. Is Antonio home on Wednesday because I don' want to leave you with five kids all on your own.

"He's home but its fine, Eva's a big help and Diego and Violet play nicely together."

"Yeah they do," She smiled, "You know maybe this'll be good for her too. I think she's having a really hard time with her lack of independence skills. I'm going to talk to her therapist and see what he can do."

"Good idea," Laura agreed, "Well I should go I have to get the girls ready for their nap."

"Yeah I should get my two asleep as well," She nodded and they both hung up the phone.
