Well this is long over-due but I kept restarting it so.. sorry for the really long wait. This chapter may not be great but it's -unfortunately- the last. This has come to an end and it's been really fun. I hope you enjoyed it! :)
2 weeks flew past pretty quickly. Klaus had gone who knows where, Damon had disappeared and Stefan was just plain avoiding her. How did life get so complicated for Elena? The only person she actually talked to from her previous 'friends' was Caroline. There was the occasional banter she shared with Kol but that doesn't really count. Not that she doesn't appreciate it because she does. It's funny to think that he could become one of her friends after trying to kill him. Not to mention him trying to kill Jeremy. Clearly not much of a problem now since.. Yeah.
The thought of Jeremy still brought a tear to Elena's eyes. Sure time has passed but can time ever be enough to heal that big of a hole? She's missing apart of her without him being around. If Elena had given up on the cure then her would still be here. The nightmare still plagued her mind. Was it really her fault that he was dead? Caroline blames Silas not Elena but if she didn't want the cure then Silas would not have been freed. What a mess.
Elena was brought out of her thoughts by quite heavy footsteps behind her. She turned her head to see a familiar face leaning on a wall. Of course he'd appear there after disappearing for 2 weeks. "You're not very light on your feet you know. It's almost like you wanted me to know you were here." He let out a chuckle accompanied with a shrug.
"What can I say? I'm not subtle." He said back letting a smile tug at his lips.
"Ain't that the truth? Why are you here Damon? You disappeared for 2 weeks." Damon shrugged with a small sigh. It annoyed Elena a little because he could have at least given her a reason. Even if he hates how she is living her life he could still justify disappearing.
"You don't really own the right to be pissed at me Elena. You've been spending the last 2 weeks with 2 originals. Not 1, two." The anger was present in his voice but that didn't phase Elena. He didn't have the right to be pissed either.
"We may not be on the best terms right now Damon but do not get pissed at my decisions." Damon scoffed at her.
"Great decisions Elena! Don't choose me or Stefan. Choose the original instead! What a fucking plan. Was this a way to get back at us? Because it worked." Elena narrowed her eyes at the Salvatore. She didn't have to sit there and listen to him complain. That's all he did when she made a decision. Complain because he didn't get to make it for her.
"I don't have to justify my actions to you Damon. Besides there was no choice here. You want me to embrace being a vampire but I never wanted to be one! Stefan wanted me as a human which is beyond my reach now. Elijah doesn't care. I can be me with him." Damons features hardened especially his gaze.
"Did you forget who took away the memories? Who handed you to that witch?" Elena laughed at his reason.
"No I didn't. You took me to that witch Damon not him. Yeah I was defenseless because I couldn't remember but it was your fault not his." She growled and crossed her arms.
Damon just let out a sigh. He felt pretty defeated which was pretty fair since he had no chance. "Alright I get it. I screwed up again. Just tell me, do you love him or not?" Elena raised her eyebrow at him. Why does he want to know?
"Honestly? I can say that I do." It was the truth, well she was pretty sure that's what the butterflies in her stomach mean. She also feels her heart beating which is weird for a vampire.
"Then why aren't you doing anything about it?" Was he giving her advice about dating? The world had clearly gone insane.
"Are you feeling alright Damon?" She asked earning a glare from said Salvatore.
"Elena i'm fine. I just don't see the point in delaying anything if you love him. I want you to be happy and if it's with an-" he growled "-original then so be it." She looked at him quite surprised by these turn of events.
"Well aren't you just a sweetie today?" She sent him an amused smile which turned into a genuine one. "Thank you. Who knew, Damon giving me love advice! Never thought that would happen." Damon rolled his eyes.
"Yeah. Do not tell anyone about this. It's very out of character for me. I do have a reputation to maintain." Well whatever that didn't last very long.
"Ah there's the Damon I know! Now leave because I have an original to talk to. I doubt Kol would love you being here."
After making Damon leave -which took more time than Elena would have liked- she made her way to the Mikaelson mansion. The place was eerily quiet which creeped Elena out a lot. A shiver traveled up her spine when the door closed behind her without even making a sound.
"Uh Elijah?!" She called out hoping for his response but she got nothing. Just more silence. Elena let out a sigh and headed up the staircase. It felt too familiar except the last time she was here, it was after regaining her memory so the house was the last thing on her mind. The silence seemed to grow louder which was weird because silence has no sound. A light cast on the wall from a room on the far right. Elena gulped and proceeded towards it peeking inside.
Books were thrown all over the floor among other things. It would have scared Elena if it wasn't for the original standing at his desk with his hands resting on it. She let out a sigh of relief and entered the messy room being careful not to step on any books.
"You know books usually go on the shelf." Elijah looked up to see Elena standing in front of him with a small smile on her face. Obviously her way of announcing herself or just trying to make everything less tense.
"Elena I didn't hear you come in" He let himself fall into his chair still looking up at the doppelganger.
"You may have been in the middle of trashing this room so I wouldn't expect you to have" He chuckled at her which made her smile grow.
"Yes well my apologies. And what do I owe this visit anyway?" Elijah inquired making Elena remember her reasons for actually going to him in the first place.
"Right because I can't come to visit my favorite original." She teased then continued before he could say anything. "So something very unexpected happened and I decided I don't want to wait anymore. If you still want to.. I would like to try again." The nerves found a way into her voice throwing it off slightly.
The smile Elijah sent Elena calmed her down substantially until it vanished and a serious look appeared in it's place. Did she say something wrong? She thought he'd be happy with trying again. Was that not what he wanted anymore? So many questions passed through her mind and no answers presented themselves just yet.
"That's a lovely offer Elena but I must decline."
"Wait what?" Decline? He had spent the past few weeks trying to show her he deserves another chance and now he's saying no? Elena tried processing it but her mind came up blank. Why was life being like this with her? What had she done now?
"I want to accept Elena. You have no idea how much but I can't." Elijah said trying to reason with her. He wasn't having much luck getting through though.
"You can't? I believe it's a choice. You can or you won't." Elena spat letting her anger show.
"This time there is no choice." He said turning away from her for a second then turning back. "I'm sorry."
"Oh you're sorry? Yeah well i'm sorry too. I thought it would be a good idea to give you a chance I mean Damon convinced me for god sake! It's all messed up really but I thought after trying to prove yourself you would say yes or something not reject me. Why the hell doesn't anything ever go my way. Something always has.." She started rambling just to be cut off by Elijah's voice.
"I have to go to New Orleans Elena." Her head whipped around to look at him pretty fast which almost made him chuckle. "Apparently Klaus is still all about taking it back and Rebekah isn't happy with pregnant wolf tantrums."
"Pregnant wolf?"
"Hayley. She and Klaus had a 'moment' so now she's stuck with a hybrid growing inside her." He explained while Elena grimaced at the thought.
"Good to know. So you have to go back?" Instead of words, Elena received a slight nod from the Original. Without even a second thought Elena blurted out the first thing that came to her head. "Then take me with you."
"It's too dangerous Elena." Of course he would say that. Everywhere is dangerous according to him.
"You say that about everywhere. Forget danger and let me do what I want. I want to come with you." Elijah looked to be contemplating it but he quickly shook his head. "Or I could always stay here and get into more danger with only my own instincts as protection."
Elijah rolled his eyes at her poor reasoning but sighed and agreed anyway. "Alright Elena fine. But you need to work on your reasoning." Elena chuckled and sent him a shrug.
"Maybe once i've packed." She flashed out without another word. Elijah shook his head at her then began to pick up various books.
"What am I going to do with you?" He said to himself while placing the books on various shelves.
Elena arrived at the lake house to find Kol grumbling to himself on the sofa with Damon next to him.
"My company isn't that bad. I mean seriously I brought scotch and Bourbon." Damon said downing a shot of one of the two.
"That's the only reason I am tolerating you right now." Elena couldn't help but chuckle at the two. Both boys turned to look at her at the same time as if they were synced. It was quite creepy.
"Don't do that again." She said with an amused smirk.
"Welcome back darling. Your idiot ex here was just annoying me."
"I wasn't even doing anything. I was sat here because you were too stubborn to say anything!" Damon said throwing his arms up in defeat.
Elena shook her head quite amused. "That's great really. Now if you'll excuse me I have to pack. Much better than listening to whatever this is." She was about to walk upstairs until someone grabbed her arm.
"Pack? For what?" Damon asked not letting her go. When did he even get up? Sneaky bastard.
"I'm going to New Orleans with Elijah. Not that it's your business." She pulled her arm from his grip pretty roughly. She hoped he'd just shut up but it's Damon. He doesn't just shut up.
"Why would you even consider that as a good idea? You're not going Elena." Elena just scoffed. He convinced her to give Elijah another chance just to try control her again. Typical.
"Sorry when did I ask for your permission?" She spat before walking upstairs leaving a surprised Damon behind.
"Nice try mate but thanks for the laughs" Kol said earning a glare from the Salvatore. "I suggest you leave now before I decapitate you." He added causing Damon to growl.
"Shut up Original." Without another word Damon left obviously not happy.
The next day Elena shoved her suitcase -all 5 of them- in Elijahs car. Elijah just stared at the amount of luggage one girl has. It took up a lot of room that Kol had to shove his on the backseat next to where he sat. Elena turned around to Caroline and gave her a tight hug.
"Call me if you need anything Elena alright?" Caroline said pulling away sending her a smile.
"You'll be the only person I would call Care you know that." They hugged a final time before Elena got in the car. She was a little sad that Bonnie hadn't come to see her off but it was expected. They weren't on the best of terms especially after the whole vampire thing. Elena could tell Bonnie held a secret hatred towards her just because of what she was. But that didn't matter anymore. She was leaving for New Orleans and all that will be forgotten. Elena likes to see it as a new start. A new start with an original boyfriend -she can call him that right?- and no worries.
Well so she thinks. Wherever she goes, trouble always follows.
Even in New Orleans. It's not the end. Not yet anyway.
I hope you liked it then! I may do a sequel if that's what is wanted but for now it's done.
