Chapter 26

It was nine o'clock and yet Gabby felt like she'd gone through an entire day. It was the twins' birthday and she'd spent two days trying to clean the house for the party and she had unfortunately neglected Violet in the process. She'd tried to tell her parents they didn't need a big party but it was a family tradition, when Eva was born they'd had her birthday at the convention centre. Her parents had wanted something similar for Javier and Rafael and even offered to pay but Gabby had said no. So as a compromise the party was at the house which was leaving Gabby to wish they'd opted to use the convention centre.

When she wasn't cleaning she was bust checking on the progress of the wedding plans, which were now only a month away. A professional was planning it but Gabby liked to be as involved as she could and luckily for her the wedding planner understood that.

"Stop cleaning Babe, the house is spotless," Matt walked in from the garage, "Just relax," He walked up and wrapped his arms around her waist.

She relaxed into him, "How'd Violet's therapy go?"

"Not so well," He responded in a quiet voice as Violet came dragging her feet into the house.

"I want to go upstairs!" She told them, "For the entire day!"

"You'll miss the party," Gabby looked at her and then at the young girls expression she realized that was probably the point. She already had low self-esteem she didn't need this on top of it.

"I want to," She said, "I want to miss it."

"Ve! Ve!" Rafael crawled up to his sister and stood up using her legs for support,
"Ve!" He cheered happily and smiled, "Lha!" He pointed to the carpet in the family room that was covered in toys.

"I think Rafael wants to play with you," Matt told her, "Go and play with him and you never know who might show up."

"But I can't play," She sighed.

"Play with these, Gabby and I got you something, it's a present," He took her hand and helped her open it, "Can you guess what it is," He moved her hand over the braille letters on the box.

"The magnet blocks?" She knew the word 'the' and she could feel the 'b' so she guessed since she'd been asking for them ever since she'd played with them at her new school.

"Yeah and these have braille writing on them too." He explained.

"Cool, I'll play with these with Javier and Rafael," She smiled excitedly, "Thanks Matt, thanks Gabby."

"You're very welcome sweetheart," Matt hugged her and kissed the top of her head, "Now lets go and set you three up with the toys." He took her hand and led her into the family room. He quickly cleaned up some of the toys and set the box on the ground. He then took the blocks out of it. "What are you going to build?"

"A tall tower!" Violet smiled and started stacking the blocks on top of one another, the twins watching with delight, "Then Javi and Raffie can knock it over."

"I think they'd like that."

"Yeah, they can be like monsters, maybe Diego can help me build a city then they can crush it."

"Maybe," He lightly chuckled.

"Violet I think someone's here to see you," Gabby walked into the family room in front of Annabelle and her grandmother. Each of whom where carrying presents.

"Hi Violet!" Annabelle smiled excitedly.

"Annabelle," Violet looked up, "Is that really you?"

"Yep," She grinned and walked into the room and sat down on the floor beside her best friend, "And guess what…" She grinned even more. "You're going to stay with us for an entire week! We're going to have so much fun!"

"Annabelle," Her grandmother gently scolded, "I don't this Mr. Casey and Ms. Dawson had told Violet about that yet."

"Opps, sorry."

"That's alright," Gabby knew the young girl was excited, and for that she could never get mad at her. She was so glad that Violet had such a good friend. "Violet when Matt and I go on our honeymoon Abuela and Abuelo are going to stay with your brothers but you're going to stay with Annabelle and her grandmother. Doesn't that sound like fun?"

She didn't look too sure, that was why Matt and Gabby had anted to wait until after the twin's birthday to explain it to her, "Today? Before the wedding?"

"Oh no sweetheart, after the wedding," Matt assured her.

"Oh, for a whole week," She finally smiled.

"Yeah and we're going to do really fun things!" Annabelle promised her.

"Yay!" She cheered happily, "Come play with us. We can build a princess castle!"

"And we can be the princess," Annabelle added and began helping her friend build.

"And then after when Diego gets here we can build a huge city and Javi and Raffie can pretend to be monsters and knock it down!"

"Cool."

"Aue," Javi crawled over to the couch and looked up at his parents, "Di?"

"Violet's playing with her friend right now," Matt picked him up, "You can play with her later?"

"La," Javier repeated the sound and began babbling away happily, "Ra?" He pointed to his twin brother who was looking at a soft baby book.

"Go play with your brother," Matt set him on the ground.

"Annabelle," Her grandmother caught her attention, "Want to come and give Ms. Dawson and Mr. Casey the presents we got for Javier and Rafael?"

"Yes!" She stood and nodded excitedly and went over to her grandmother and handed over the bag her grandmother had carried in, "I got something for Violet too." She grinned, "I picked it out all on my own!"

"Well that was very nice of you," Matt told her, "You're a very nice young girl."

"Thank you Sir," Annabelle grinned proudly, "Can I play now Grandma?" She turned around.

"Yes you may."

Without another word she went off to play with Violet.

The doorbell rang twenty minutes later and Antonio, and Laura and the kids walked in carrying lots of gifts. "Antonio!" Gabby saw all of the presents, "I told you no!"

Laura good-naturedly rolled her eyes, "We misses shopping for little boys. And he had the nerve to suggest we have another baby." She slapped the back of his head.

"Owe babe," Antonio milked the injury, "You already did that."

"Yeah but your heads so thick!" She laughed, "But seriously Gabby you bought so much for Eva and Diego and even Isabelle and Nevaeh we just want to return the favour."

"Well thank you."

"Where's Violet?" Diego wondered as he took off his shoes and put them on the closet.

"In the family room with Annabelle," Gabby told him.

"Annabelle's here?" His face reddened.

"Yeah," Gabby nodded, "Go and play with them."

"Uh… yeah sure," Diego nodded and left glaring at Eva who was snickering.

"DE!" Isobel screamed, "DE!" The six month old wailed tears quickly falling out of her eyes as she squirmed to get out of her father's hold. "DE!"

"All right sweetie," Antonio put her on the ground and she crawled after her brother.

When Javier and Rafael saw their cousin they both toddled up to her and smiled, "Gla," Rafael looked at her.

"Glga," Isobel replied and looked back as Laura carried Nevaeh into the room. As she saw her sister she smiled and Laura sat her down.

"Aw," Annabelle grinned, "They're so cute."

"Isobel loves me," Diego spoke up.

"Yeah but she's still little," Eva sat down beside her brother.

"Eva! "He groaned, "Don't you have something better to do?"

"No," She shrugged and smirked.

The adults talked while the kids played and in time Gaby's parents arrived carrying gifts before some more family arrived and finally Severide and Shay with a very upset Caleb.

When it was time to open presents Javier and Rafael weren't the only ones overwhelmed. Everyone that had come had also brought at least one gift for Violet. While the twins got lots of toys, books and clothes Violet got a set of braille early reader books from Gabby's parents, brand new clothes Eva hand gotten her and some toys that would be easy for her to play with. From Laura and Antonio she had gotten an interesting gift, it wasn't really for her but for the entire family, in it was a brochure for a company that installed rails for disabled people. Matt had said he'd install rails in Violet's room and upstairs as well as downstairs but they were so busy. After looking over the brochure he finally decided to think about letting someone else do it.
