Author's Note: This is a shorter chapter, and for that I am sorry but I wasn't sure how much I wanted to dwell on this. It is hard to write about for me and this is what felt right.
Before that though, I just want to thank Rin Owens, Rei Eien and kouga's older woman. You three have reviewed almost every chapter I have posted if not every one. You all have made my writing so much easier I truly appreciate it. Thank you! I hope all my readers enjoy my ideas. Sadly I do not own Ouran, I am just borrowing it. Please read and review!
Chapter 14:
The next morning, Haruhi woke up and felt very drained. She is usually a little down on this day, but this year seems much worse. The entire night before she was tossing and turning, reliving memories of when her mother was ill. She slowly pulls herself together and goes to take a shower.
Just as she is getting out and drying her hair, she hears a knock at her door. Wrapping a towel tightly around herself, she glances at the clock on her way to the door. 10Am, CRAP! Kyoya is going to be pissed. I am not even dressed and still need to pack lunches still. The only thing I have ready to go is her flowers. She thinks, shooting a glance to the flowers on the living room table before opening the door.
Kyoya looks her up and down a minute and bites his lip. His cheeks get a slight pink tinge and as he is about to speak, Haruhi stops him,
"I am so sorry Kyoya, I am just not-"
"Yourself today? That's alright. I kind of expected it. I got my staff to pack a picnic lunch for us, so we just need to get you dressed and your mother's flowers ready." He says gently caressing Haruhi's cheeks.
"Thank you." Haruhi says and pulls him down for a kiss.
"Anytime, now go get ready, because the hormonal male side of me is sorely tempted with you in just that towel." Kyoya says releasing her. Haruhi smirks and wiggles her hips a little on her way down the hall. That woman will be the death of me. Kyoya thinks to himself as sits down in the living room.
As the young couple sits in the car, neither one of them wants to break the silence. Kyoya knows Haruhi needs to talk but he isn't sure how to start it off. Haruhi isn't sure how to even turn what she is feeling into words so she is remaining silent. Eventually though, Kyoya decides to speak, but not about what he thought he would.
"My mother died when I was seven, so this coming year will be the ten year anniversary for her. She died of cancer, one that if the doctors had been looking more closely, they would have caught sooner. Chances are that if they has caught it sooner, she would have lived. After she passed away, my father started buying hospitals. He wanted to run the best hospital in the world to make sure no one else he loved died. His medical supples business was doing well enough that he was actually able to buy most of the hospitals in the city."
"I don't know what my mother died of, I was too young. I just know it was some rare disease. My Dad won't talk about it. He will talk about my Mom and what she was like but never about when she became sick or d-died."
"My father won't even talk about my mother. I am the only one, apart from my sister who ever visits her grave. I don't have a lot of memories of my mother but those I do, are warm and loving. I miss her greatly some days but I know she is in a better place."
"Same except usually my Dad does come with me today. Oh and he talks to my mother all the time. I think he is still in love with her to this day."
"Mine is too, my father just doesn't show emotions. Ever."
"I think we did pretty good, growing up without our Moms. I mean it would have been better to have them but I think we turned out okay." Haruhi says as they pull up to the cemetery.
"Me too. You ready?" Kyoya says opening the door and holding his hand out for her.
"As I will ever be."
After giving Haruhi some space to talk to her mother alone, Haruhi eventually motions him over and introduces him to her mother. Shocking Haruhi completely, he talks to her and tells a bit about himself and how he loves her daughter. This brings tears to Haruhi's eyes and it takes several minutes for her to calm down enough to explain to Kyoya that they are happy tears. After that, the couple decide to have a picnic and keep talking to her Mom. While some people may find that weird, it was the perfect way for Haruhi to remember her mother with the important person in her life.
"Hey Kyoya?" Haruhi asks as they head back to the car.
"Can I come with you on the anniversary of your Mom's death?"
"I would really like that Haruhi." He says and Haruhi squeezes his hand.
