Hairspray and Whoop Ass

Chapter 12:

Clary's phone dinged, signaling a text.

When were you going to tell me Jace asked you out?! So…Izzy had found out. Well, she did live in the same house as Jace so I guess it was a bit inevitable. Jace had said he was booked for this weekend but next Friday would work for him.

Right now of course! Clary sent the message and Isabelle replied within seconds.

Oh really?

Yes really, I was just about to send you the text when I got yours.

Well, I guess you should come over…

Why?

Because I highly doubt you've been out on a date recently and the world is changing. Plus I want to have a sleepover. So bring your sister and we can make popcorn and watch Breakfast at Tiffany's. Please…

Fine. Jace isn't there is he?

Oh no, him, Will, and Jem went out. Lord knows where…

Ok.

Clary got up, stretching, and preceded down the hall to Tessa's room. She knocked and went in, finding Tessa lounging across her bed reading To Kill a Mockingbird.

"This better be of dire importance, because I just got to the part where Uncle Jack comes for Christmas." Tessa's eyes held the warning as much as her voice did.

"It is. Isabelle wants you and me to go to her house for a slumber party." Clary flopped on the bed next to Tessa. Tessa in turn looked down her nose at Clary.

"I'm not saying I will, but hypothetically if I were to go, what would we do?" Tessa folded the page in a dog-eared fashion to mark where she had left off.

"Oh, the usual slumber party agenda. Braiding each others hair, talking about boys, and then a pillow fight in our underwear. The usual." Clary winked.

For some odd reason, Tessa laughed at this. Maybe she had been around Will and his sarcastic humor and sexual innuendos.

"Yeah, I guess." Tessa sat the book down on her nightstand and stood, preparing to pack the essentials for an overnight stay.

"Oh and…I need you to tell Mom." Clary smiled nervously.

"Why can't you?" Tessa glared at her cousin/sister.

"Because…Mom is still mad about the whole detention thing and she likes you. Just please Tessie…for me." Tessa could not resist Clary's puppy dog eyes.

"Fine!" She huffed.

Clary sat, well more perched on the edge of the bar down in the Lightwood's basement. She watched as Isabelle and Tessa dueled for the last gummy worm over ping-pong. If only they had known, Clary had slipped it into her mouth while Isabelle served. The match ended and the two girls shook hands, Isabelle had won.

"Hey…where's my worm?"

"Wiggling down to my esophagus as we speak." Clary smirked, sipping her Coke.

"Clarissa…Tessa what's her middle name?" Izzy had turned her head but kept her eyes locked on Clary's.

"Adele." Tessa answered.

"Clarissa Adele Fray!" Isabelle seethed.

"What? Do your worst. I can take it."

"You are extremely lucky I just got my nails done, because I am not against maiming your face."

"Wait…did you hear that?" Tessa had come forward, clutching both Clary and Isabelle's arms.

"No one's home. Mom, Dad, and Max are both visiting some relatives and Alec is with Magnus and Jace, Jem, and Will said something about going out to dinner and a movie."

"Did you leave any lights on upstairs?" Tessa asked.

"No, this house doesn't run on magic. I turned them all off."

"So there's a possibility someone, say a burglar, may think the house is empty. A house very huge and wealthy looking." Tessa whispered.

"Wait what?" Izzy whisper screamed.

"Well it's either that or a murderer. Take your pick." Clary hissed. Izzy ran around to the side of the bar looking for weapons. Izzy grabbed a corkscrew used to open wine bottles, Clary grabbed a can of hairspray from the bathroom, and Tessa just grabbed a very decorative, very heavy pitcher from an end table. The girls came to a mutual agreement that Tessa would guard the basement door while Clary and Isabelle searched the upstairs. There were two doors that you had to go through to get to the basement, one at the top of the steps and another at the bottom. As Clary and Izzy went up the stair case, Tessa closed the door behind them and locked it. She sat in one of the two armchairs that manned the door. She sat, waiting to hear the two girls come back.

"Should I turn on the lights?" Isabelle whispered to Clary.

"No, what if they have a gun? It would be better if we apprehended them in the dark, so they don't know what they are shooting at." Clary muttered into Isabelle's ear. The girls jumped when they heard the mumbling of voices in the front hallway. Isabelle maneuvered Clary through the dining room which led to the living room which then opened into said hallway. The girls were right at the entrance to the hallway, they could see the figures of two human beings, standing only a few inches away. One reached towards the wall and the lights flicked on.

Tessa heard feet on the stairs, and not her sister's or Izzy's feet, but heavy tromping. Tessa climbed up on top of the chair she had been sitting on, the big pitcher in her hands. She hoped that whoever was on the other side of the door wouldn't be able to pick the lock, keeping said person out. To Tessa's dismay the door's lock clicked loudly, permitting whoever it was in. Tessa watched as the door slowly opened and the shadowed intruder came around. In a panic, Tessa threw the pitcher down on her attacker.

As the lights came on, the girls screamed, Clary letting loose with her hairspray, right into the perpetrator's eyes. Both Clary and Isabelle heard the sound of two very distinct, very male, screams. Clary stopped, realizing whom she had doused in hairspray and was now rolling on the floor screaming "My eyes, my beautiful eyes!"

Jace was now rolling on the floor, clutching at his face, while Jem was pressed flush against the wall with Isabelle pushed against him and her corkscrew poised at his throat.

"Crap, Isabelle. Fall back, not a threat…not a threat." Clary spoke, running to help Jace sit up. Isabelle realized who she was gripping and stepped back, dropping the cork screw.

Clary grabbed the hem of her shirt and wiped the sticky residue off of Jace's face. Isabelle came over to Clary. Somehow, she had managed to get contact solution (A/N not the hydrogen peroxide, epic burning solution) and now handed it to Clary. Clary forced Jace's eyes open, and doused his eyes with the solution. Jace blinked sitting up slowly and scrubbing at his eyes.

"You…are…a very crazy woman." He stated. And then they heard a scream from downstairs.

Yeah, I've been fairly busy. School has ended and my teachers felt the need to enforce a load of homework on us. But now it's over, and I had graduation parties and I had planned to do this last Sunday but I didn't get home until one, and then Monday I slept forever, and then Monday I got CoHF, which was amazing and yet not as traumatizing as I had expected. But I finished CoHF tonight and now I am updating post extremely happy ending. Happy it was happy but sad it's ending and I literally told my mom I was going to die. So now we wait for TDA and Silver Shadows!

R&R, and ask me anything, I really don't mind.

Yay! - Emma
