H is for Hero

He'd never really never wanted to be a hero. He was more of a behind the scenes type of guy. He liked to come in and piece it all back together. He cared more about the knowledge than the action.

That was till he met a girl who needed a hero. Actively.

It had started off small. He'd only intended to get some free help but then he heard about how she was a orphan and it seemed just too familiar for him to ignore so he decided to pay her and give her a chance for to earn a living wage. It was the kind thing to do and that was also something he never really got involved with either. Something about her though...it inspired him to do strange things. Strange for him anyway.

He'd fallen down into a sewer for her and taken a roof to the back. He'd cradled her close and kept her safe whenever possible.

He wasn't the heroic type after all, yet he's the one who'd gone out looking when she'd gone missing at the school and found her in the lab passed out. He's the one who ran after her when she went after a demon on her own.

He wasn't the convention hero, he was more of a black knight than white.

None of that mattered though. He couldn't save his brother but he could for damn sure save her.

He'd be a hero for her for as long as he could.

If it didn't kill him first, because it was turning into a bit of a full time job. He had one of those already and didn't need another.

And one day, he'd get his hero's reward. He looked at her lips and pursed his own considering what it would be like when that happened.

Everyone needed a hero at one time or another he supposed. She just needed it a bit more often than most.

But that was all part of why she was so special.
