S is for Salt
Mai could not abide Naru's attitude. Day in and day out he was always being demanding and exacting, rude and narcissistic. He was a huge jerk. Mai wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine.
"Mai, Hot Tea." When she heard those words roll off of his lips for the 5th time today it was like the heaven's opened and smiled on Mai.
"Yes, Naru." She smiled sweetly at him. Perhaps a little too sweetly. If he was looking at her he'd have been afraid by the glint that ticked in the corner or her eye. As it was though he was too absorbed with his ubiquitous black notebook.
Mai stood and went about making the tea. She took her time and did everything perfectly, perfectly that is till the point in time when she grabbed up the salt instead of the honey and poured it into Naru's cup. Liberally. Mai smiled at her cleverness as she put the cups on the tray to deliver, One for her, One for Lin and an extra special cup for Naru. She stopped by Lin's first, and then by her own desk, crossing Naru's office quickly to give him his tea. She smiled at him and bit her lip to keep from giggling. She placed the tea on his desk and ran for her desk quickly. She really wanted to see his face but she knew that it would be all too obvious. Little did she know that she had given herself away by acting so out of character.
Naru sat at his desk contemplating the tea Mai had put on it without her usual attitude. Could it be that she was finally learning to do her job properly? He scoffed at the thought. No, she was up to something.
He picked up the cup of proffered tea and looked at it hesitantly. It looked ok. He brought it to his nose, it smelled out. The cup was the appropriate temperature. Perhaps she hadn't messed with his tea after all.
He brought it up to his lips and took a deep sip only to gag on the flavor. It wasn't what he was expecting.
As he unceremoniously spit the offending drink back into his cup. He could see Mai jumping away from his door, glee in her eyes.
She'd salted his tea.
This wouldn't be the end of this.
