New chapter, and a development for our favorite pair!
Enjoy! And thanks to everybody who reads, follows, favorites and make reviews! It means a lot to me :)
"I'm going to fail everything!" Rose exclaimed and rested her head on her arms.
Scorpius had been quick enough to take away Rose's latest assignment before her hair had made contact with the still wet ink.
"Of course you're not going to fail." Scorpius said.
He wanted to comfort Rose even further, but at the same second, the now very old Madam Prince came around the corner. Her sight weren't that great any more, but her hearing compensated for that – she could a quill hit the ground from across the library.
"Shh!" she said harshly and tried to focus on Rose and Scorpius. Rose lifted her head at the sound.
When madam Prince finally walked on, Scorpius looked at his watch.
"It's nearly curfew. May I follow you back to the Ravenclaw tower?"
Rose nodded as she collected her things into her backpack.
They walked out of the library together with only a few inches between them.
"I still can't believe that professor Binns would give us an assignment the day before Easter holiday and demand it delivered before we go home." Scorpius said.
Rose sighed and nodded, tired. The pair were almost at the Ravenclaw Tower when Rose suddenly stopped, looking wondering, and then alarmed as she turned her bag inside out.
"It isn't here!" She said in a high pitched voice. "My essay, it's not in my bag. I must have forgotten it at the library!"
She started running towards the library. Scorpius followed her.
"Rose, it's curfew in less than five minutes! Can't you just pick up the assignment tomorrow before breakfast?" He asked nervously as he scanned the hallways they passed.
"No, the house elves will just think that it's trash and toss it." Rose mumbled as she kept the quick pace.
When they reached the library the light was out, but the door was unlocked. Rose and Scorpius slipped inside and closed the door behind them. The only light in the library was now the moonlight shining through the windows. Rose and Scorpius tried to make as little sound as possible as they walked past bookshelf after bookshelf.
"There it is." Rose half whispered and grabbed her essay.
"Great." Scorpius said. "Let's get out of here!"
As they turned around they suddenly both saw light. The door between the hallway and the main part of the library had been opened.
"Oh for the sake of Merlin's beard and dirty underwear!" Scorpius cursed, and Rose couldn't help but giggle.
Scorpius took Rose's hand and started dragging her trough the library, down to the Restricted Section which was farthest away from the main door to the library. Rose was busy putting her assignment into her bag, and might have made some noise in the process.
"Did you hear that too?" a voice asked. Looking over their shoulders, Rose and Scorpius could make out a couple of silhouettes against the light from the hallway.
"Yeah, I heard it too." Another voice said. "Probably students out of bed after curfew. We should search the library before moving on."
"Oh, dung of a sick dragon." She whispered and dragged Scorpius along as she started running.
If a prefect was caught out of bed after curfew without a task or a permission from a professor or the Headmaster, it could mean that the prefect would lose his or hers position.
Facing that possibility, Rose and Scorpius did their best to make it to the back of the library without being caught.
They found a dark corner between two bookshelves in the back. It was pretty narrow, but by squeezing close together they were both able to fit. Scorpius had somehow got his arm stuck around Rose, but she didn't mind. Actually she just leaned in even closer.
The adrenaline from the little hunt and the fear of being discovered still raced inside their veins. In the dark, Rose could barely make out Scorpius' face, but it didn't matter – she could remember every feature in his face and saw it clearly whenever she closed her eyes. She could feel his heart beat in his chest, because of the almost non-existing space between them. Without really being clear about it, she lifted her face towards Scorpius'.
He already looked down at her, and wasn't slow to follow the hint. He brought his face, his lips, slowly nearer hers, giving her a fair amount of time to pull away.
But Rose didn't, and she didn't want to. Here in the dark, in Scorpius' arms, leaned in against his body, she felt absolutely safe and joyous.
Their lips finally touched, and Scorpius pulled Rose closer, even though it was almost impossible considering the small space. Rose put her arms around Scorpius' neck, and kissed him back passionately. How could she not have realized until now how much she had wanted this. How much she was actually madly in love with this fantastic, caring, always supporting guy.
The kiss suddenly took a turn of character; from sweet and passionate to something deeper. Rose felt her heart race and could hear her own pulse beating in her ears.
"Hey, hold it… Rose?" a voice sounded from the end of the bookshelves from someone holding a lantern.
Rose and Scorpius broke apart, and tried to make out the feature of the intruder.
The lantern was raised a bit and Rose felt her heart skip a beat. It was Albus, her cousin.
"I am very disappointed with the pair of you!" McGonagall said angrily as she starred at Rose and Scorpius. "A pair of our highly valued Prefects, hiding in the Restricted Section of the library after curfew! You two are supposed to be role models for the younger students!"
Rose looked down, tears in her eyes. Scorpius probably saw the tears, because she started defending her.
"Rose had forgotten her assignment in the library Headmaster. She just wanted to get it back before the house elves mistook it for trash and tossed it . I was the one to drag her along and make her hide." He said.
McGonagall looked at Scorpius and Rose in a long time without saying something. Then she sighed.
"You should just have revealed yourself for the patrol instead of hiding. Then we wouldn't have this problem." She sounded tired and disappointed.
Rose felt the tears starting to roll down her cheek. Why was it that every time she finally experienced just a brief moment of happiness, that moment had to be destroyed by her disappointing someone. She wasn't just a black sheep. She was the blackest, most unlucky and disappointing sheep in the entire world, she thought bitterly.
"You're both getting a detention. And I have to report this to your parents." McGonagall said.
"No." Rose's head lifted and she starred at McGonagall. "Please, don't report this to my parents." Rose said, pale faced and in a desperate voice.
"Would you rather having me removing you from all your duties and position as Prefect miss Weasley?" McGonagall asked and waited until Rose had shaken her head as a no. "Then it shall be as this. Now, the two of you better get back to your dormitories."
Rose rose with a heavy heart and followed after Scorpius. Outside McGonagall's office was a couple of Prefects waiting to follow Rose and Scorpius back to their dormitories. Albus was one of them.
Rose looked at him with dark eyes until Scorpius caught her attention.
"See you tomorrow?" He asked, and she nodded. He gave her a quick kiss on the mouth before following his impatient escort on the way to the dungeons.
Rose started walking towards the Ravenclaw tower and Albus followed her.
"Rose I'm sorry." He said after a little while.
"Yeah, well, sorry doesn't really help me. My dad's going to curse me the second I arrive at our house." Rose said angrily.
Neither Albus nor Rose said anything for the rest of the walk.
