I is for Irony
Oliver smirked as she watched Mai fidget as she went through all her rational and reasons on how she knew that she was in love, with him. The irony being that he had planned this very afternoon to confess to her.
He had sent Lin out for his lunch at the usual time, had sent Miss Hara tickets to an event , asked Yasuhara and Father Brown to do some research for him that would keep them occupied for hours. He'd paid a bar owner two cities over to have Takigawa's band play and had sent Miss Matsuzaki to an arbortetum in the country side, ostensibly to recharge her 'powers'. He'd had it planned to the final detail.
He acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary all day; then at exactly 1:15pm, per his usual routine he called for tea.
When Mai had come into his office his heart had stopped. She wore a pale pink skirt and white top. Her long legs ended in a pair of flats and her hair was loose about her shoulders. The light from the main office framed her for a moment and he struggled to swallow as he looked up to see her enter. She was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen.
"So, in conclusion Naru," she was so nervous she shook slightly and that just endeared her to him more, "you can see from the factual evidence I've provided you with that I am, in fact, inlove with you. Not Gene, you. " She stopped and looked at him. He looked back, and gave her a smile.
The real one. She was standing in front of him and he stood up so that he now was looking down in her eyes which had widened in surprise. Mai watched him and he knew that she was waiting to be rejected but that wasn't want he was planning.
He reached out and closed his hand over his much smaller one, he took a moment to enjoy the softness of her skin. Without breaking eye contact he brought her hand to his chest and smoothed it open, her palm over his heart. She looked slightly confused but didn't care look away.
As Oliver leaned down and put his lips to her ear he could smell the soft smell of lilac from her perfume. He tried to commit the moment to memory before he whispered to her.
"You are my heart Mai." Before she could respond his lips were pressed softly to hers in an innocent kiss that left both their hearts racing.
Oliver had no idea how long they had stood there after they'd pulled back slightly. His body bent down, his forehead pressed to hers. He had his eyes closed and knew she did as well. They simply enjoyed standing there, her hand on his heart, one of his over it, the other cupped lightly around her jaw.
They both jumped when Lin returned from lunch and stood in the main doorway to the office. He had an unobstructed view of their private moment and now his mouth hung agape. Oliver spared a little pk to shut his door and returned his lips to Mai's.
This time, the kiss was not quite as innocent.
