You know the feeling when everything is just far to hectic, and you have no energy to anything besides the necessary?
That has kinda been my life the last 3-4 months.
But hopefully I'm back on track, so it wont be that long for me to post another chapter.
Enjoy!
The fire was the only light in the room except for the stars peaking between the curtains.
Rose and Scorpius sat by the fire, Rose head resting at Scorpius' shoulder and Scorpius' arms around Rose.
The heat from the fire made Rose's face feel warm and flushed, but she didn't care.
"Why can't it be like this always." She mumbled silently.
But as always, Scorpius heard even the most silent sound she made.
"Because then we wouldn't enjoy this moment quite as much." He whispered back.
Rose smiled.
It was about 2 in the night, and the house was sound asleep.
"Tell me again why you don't really have any house elves? I didn't quite catch what your father said at dinner." Rose asked.
She could feel Scorpius' smile.
"Grandma and dad gave each and everyone of the elves clothes right after the second wizard war, and told them that they where more than welcome to stay, but that they'd get paid for their service. Most of them thought it was outrageous. But a few actually felt sorry for our family, and wanted to stay. To compensate for the rest of them, we hired a couple of servants to come once in a while, but it was quite laboriously. We had to obliviate them quite often, so now we only have muggles working in the garden and on surface of the house." Scorpius explained. "Luckily over time, some elves have turned up, wanting to take work here. But we always insist on paying them."
"My mom used to work for elves freedom. She and Shackelbolt actually demolished a lot of the old laws, and granted elves and other magical beings proper rights." Rose answered.
"Yeah I know." Scorpius said. "Dad has told quite a lot about your mom, dad, uncle Harry and aunt Ginny."
"Hmmm," Rose answered, puzzled, . "Well, I've heard about your father too. And you. Actually the first day I saw you at the Express at our first year, my dad told me to beat you in every class possible."
"You've told me that before" Scorpius laughed. "And surely you have." He turned her around so he could face her. "I'm pretty confident that you impressed both my parents with all the classes you take."
"Yeah?" Rose answered. "Did I impress you?" she asked with sparkling eyes.
"Oh dearest Merlin, Rose darling, you impressed me the first time you opened your mouth. And even before that, it was hard not to notice the beautiful girl with hair like flames and little, cute freckles on her nose." Scorpius said teasingly.
"I don't have freckles." Rose protested, covering her nose with her hand.
Scorpius laughed. "Oh, yes you do." He said, and the leaned in to kiss her.
"'Morning miss." A little voice woke up Rose.
She sat up in the bed, looking around the room, heavy-eyed from the lack of sleep.
"When do miss wants her tea?" the same little voice asked, but from below Rose.
Rose looked down and found herself looking at a tiny, old house elf, dressed in a funny combination of colors. Most colorful was the socks, which the elf seemed to wear about 3 pair of.
"Ehm, now would do, I think." Rose said, not used to the service of being brought tea in the morning.
The elf put an immense cup on the bed stand. The content smelled like cinnamon.
"So what's your name?" Rose asked as she took a sip of the burning tea.
"I'm Winky, miss." The elf said.
Rose almost lost her grip on the cup, as she tried not to spout out the tea.
"Winky? Crouch's former elf?" Rose asked, forgetting all about being polite.
"Yes miss." The elf answered.
"Friend of Dobby?" Rose asked.
The elf nodded, sad this time. "Yes miss, Dobby was a very dear friend to me."
Rose put the cup aside. "I'm sorry Winky, I've just heard a lot about you, so I got quite excited founding out who you are." She said.
"It's alright miss." The elf answered. "Winky is needed down in the kitchen for preparing breakfast, so Winky has to leave now miss."
"Why, of course." Rose said, and the elf took off.
Rose laid back on the large amount of pillows and stretched while a smile played on her lips. It was really nice here at the Malfoys. She didn't have to do a single thing. Everything, dinner, dishwashing, caring for the garden, cleaning, even morning tea was taking care of by either house elves or servants.
"'Morning Rose." A voice reached her from the door.
Rose sat up, covering her night shirt with the blue blanket.
"'Morning ms. Malfoy." Rose said shyly as Scorpius' mother entered the room.
"Please dear, call me Astoria; it hasn't changed since last night." She winked at Rose, and then gestured towards the bedside. "May I?"
Rose nodded, and Astoria sat down.
"Oh, I see that Winky brought you your morning tea." Astoria said. "I thought you would like to meet her."
Rose nodded again, letting the blanket fall back down onto the bed.
"I actually only came here to ask if you've slept well?" Astoria asked.
"Yeah, I've slept absolutely wonderful." Rose said, but her body then betrayed her with a sudden yawn.
"But perhaps not long enough." Astoria said with a little smile.
Rose's cheeks flushed a pale pink.
Astoria got back up. "Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that breakfast is ready if you would like to join us."
Rose nodded eagerly and got out of bed.
"I'll let you have some privacy then." Astoria said and left the room smiling.
"Good morning beautiful." Scorpius' greeted Rose when she finally found her way downstairs.
Rose smiled back at him and planted a kiss in the corner of his mouth.
"'Morning Scorp." She said.
Scorpius offered her his arm, and she smiled brightly while taking it. Then he led her into the dining room.
Draco and Astoria already sat at the table, talking, while Draco was reading The Daily Prophet and Astoria was drinking her morning tea.
"Good morning children." Draco said, not looking up.
"Morning Dad. Mum." Scorpius said while leading Rose over at a chair before he sat down himself.
"So, does the two of you have any plans for today?" Astoria asked.
Scorpius grinned, leaned in and whispered something in her ear.
Rose lifted an eyebrow. What had he planned that she wasn't allowed to hear about.
"Oh, I see." Astoria said. "Just make sure that you don't break any rules."
Scorpius just grinned and winked at Rose.
"No. No way. Not ever. Not even if Merlins pants where catching fire. Nope." Rose stood still, arms crossed in front of her chest and pierced Scorpius with her gaze.
"Come on darling." Scorpius pleaded and gestured towards the back of his broom. "I'll control it, and you just have to hold on tight."
"Scorp, you know that I'm not at all comfortable riding a broom." Rose said.
Scorpius reached out, grabbed Rose's arm, and pulled her closer towards the broomstick. And closer towards him.
"You'll be as soon as I'm done with your training." He said, grinning, and Rose gave in. She couldn't stand that gorgeous grin.
"Okay," she said, placing herself on the broom, and locking her arms around Scorpius' waist. "But only a small flight and not to hiiiiiigh!" the last word turned into a girlish scream as Scorpius pushed them off the ground with his feet and held the broom straight upward.
Rose closed her eyes, and tried to make her grip around him become even tighter.
"Open your eyes!" Scorpius shouted, and Rose did.
Her sight was blurred from tears, and when she looked down on the ground, which was suddenly far beneath them, she couldn't help but gasp.
"I know." Scorpius just said, and steered the broom towards the lake which belonged to the Malfoy's.
"Scorp, what a gorgeous view." Rose said, leaning to the left, trying to catch a better of the glimpse of the ground underneath the pair.
"Watch out!" Scorpius said, and fought to steady his broom while he pulled Rose back into a straight position.
"Sorry." Rose mumbled, too fascinated by the landscape showing before her eyes to pay too much attention. But her grip around Scorpius' waist got a bit tighter.
"Easy darling, you wouldn't want to squeeze all air out of me about a 60 feet above ground, would yeah?" Scorpius said teasingly.
Later that evening, Rose and Scorpius sat in the living room when Draco came home. They could hear him talking to Astoria in the hall for a couple of minutes, before he entered the room.
"Evening kids." He said, while he poured himself a glass of scotch. Then he collapsed into a comfortable looking leather arm chair.
"What've you been up to today?" He asked, taking a large sip of his drink.
Rose didn't really listen while Scorpius told his father about their day. Draco looked haunted by something. And still he looked beautiful. Rose glanced at her boyfriend. He was just like his father. They looked so much alike.
"I tried to teach Rose how to fly." Scorpius said, grinning.
Draco nodded. "I assumed that you already knew how to do that Rose. At least if you take into fact the Weasley blood running in your veins." He said with a dry note that made Rose smile.
"Yeah, well, my parents have always said I'm more of a Granger than a Weasley." Rose said.
Draco laughed. "Yeah, that would make sense." He said. "How are your parents anyway? Ron's still an Auror?"
"He is - he's working for my uncle, uncle Harry, that is. And my mum is working in the Ministry as well, Head of Magical Law Enforcement, though the new Minister tends to let her have days at home, like Shackelbolt did - to really get into all the old books, with what she describes as 'rubbish laws'". Rose answered.
"Arh, of course." Draco answered. "They're all still fighting the good cause in their own way."
"Well, so are you, dad!" Scorpius exclaimed. He turned to Rose. "Did you know, that my father was one of the first at Skt. Mungos to start looking at mental illnesses in wizards? Mental illnesses, that means like wizards who have repressed their magic, or who suffers from some old spells gone wrong, which may have messed with their minds? Nobody would have believed in what they all considered to be muggle-rubbish, if it weren't for dad." He looked at his father with a huge grin, which his father answered with a tired smile. "A lot of people actually fought dad's work - but I guess that even after the war, the name Malfoy still held some respect."
"Are we done bragging for today, Scorpius?" Astoria entered the room, holding a stack of plates. "Dinner is served."
Scorpius sent his mother a smile of pure innocence. "I'm not bragging. I'm just telling Rose how great a couple of parents I have. Did you know," he said, turning to Rose and quickly continuing before his mother could get a word in. "that mum and dad actually met because mum volunteered to talk with some of dads patients? Or that she still does volunteer work, not only at Skt. Mungos, but also in the nearby muggle village? And she runs this entire household at the same time!" he finished with a grin.
"Well, seeing as Rose now knows just about our entire family history, perhaps we could come around to actually eat supper before it turns cold?" Astoria asked dryly, sending her husband a despondent look before disappearing into the dining room.
