I remember when my mother used to make breakfast for me every morning. I smiled to myself as I turned with the twin's breakfasts putting them on the table. I went to the window and stared out. So much has changed since my mother…the sound of glass breaking came from upstairs. I had to go see what Vamp-boy just broke.
Minutes Earlier
Pitch watched as Gen led the two young ones out of the room. He had explored her room a bit. A picture of a little girl and a woman stopped him. The little girl was obviously Gen he could recognize her anywhere, but the woman. Those eyes the exact same eyes that Gen had…he recognized those eyes they reminded him of a time long ago…
Flashback
"You really shouldn't just sit around here mister, you'll get cold." Golden eyes met silver eyes just shining with innocence. "Mom says its bad to just sit in the snow. Would you like to come inside?" She asked smiling at him. "You can warm up by the fireplace. I'm sure Mom won't mind."
"You should be afraid." Pitch informed the girl. "I'm the boogeyman."
"Okay." She said. "I'm not afraid. Just 'cause you're the boogeyman doesn't mean you don't need to be warm." The little girl grabbed his hand and led him towards her home. "Do you like cartoons? I do. I like to watch all kinds especially on Saturday mornings. Do you have a TV? My friend Amy doesn't. I don't know why, but she tells me her parents don't want her to watch TV. I don't like to go to Amy's house much. She likes to read. I don't like to read, my teacher says its because I haven't found the right book. How can I find the right book if I don't want to read them?"
"You talk too much." Pitch told her.
End Flashback
Pitch had ended up watching the girl her entire life. Pitch picked the picture frame up and sat down on Gen's bed.
Flashback
"I'm Joy." She had told him. "Mom says I bring Joy to the world." She said with a giggle. "That's a song you know…I like your eyes. They are pretty." Joy smiled at him. "Do you want anything to drink? Mom says its rude not to ask. What do you do as a boogeyman? Is it fun do you get scared? Can you get scared?"
End Flashback
He met her several times throughout her life. Pitch attempted to visit her at least once a year, but he sometimes missed a year or two. Time seemed to pass differently for him than for her before he knew it she was grown up.
Flashback
"You've shown up for my wedding huh?" Joy said with the same smile on her face she always wore when she saw him. She was in her white dress looking ready to go. Something inside him was filled with pride that the little girl he'd known had grown up. "Don't worry he's a nice guy. You would like him. His name is Gregory Conrad." She turned away and looked outside. "He's the man I've always wanted." She gave a light laugh. "He's already talking about kids. He wants a little girl. The perfect combination of us, I'm not sure if I can be a mom yet. What do you think boogeyman?"
"You talk to much like always." Pitch informed her a small smile formed on his lips.
"I talk when I'm excited or nervous or okay I talk a lot. I can't help it I just have so much to say. I know you think I should be quieter, but Greg thinks its great. He listens to all the things I have to say. Even if I am making no sense what so ever Greg listens. It's amazing. I can't wait to walk down the aisle."
"I wish you luck." He said turning to go.
"Don't you want to stay? Will I ever see you again?" She asked following after him. He nodded. "Don't be a stranger. Seriously! You can pop in any time I won't mind. Its always good to see an old friend again."
End Flashback
He ran his fingers against the glass. Joy had grown up so much he couldn't believe the little girl he'd known was gone. It was the 2nd to last time he'd see her. The next time she'd have a little 5-year-old running around with her. He realized now that the daughter of Joy must be Gen. Gen the little girl that gave him a flower unafraid of him just like her mother.
Flashback
A little girl with red-blond hair stood on a swing. Her mother was watching from the window. When the mother saw him she smiled and walked he assumed towards a door. "Hey stranger." She greeted him from her front porch. "Nice to see you again. Sweetie will you stay on the ground while I talk to our guest please?" Joy asked the little girl. The little girl jumped off of the swing and ran around to side of the house. "Thank you!" Joy called after the girl. "How have you been?"
"Good. I see you've had children."
"Just one." Joy said a small smile appeared on her face. Pitch could tell it was not a happy one. "I found out I couldn't have anymore after her." For the first time Pitch saw that even though she wasn't talking the emotion in her eyes were saying everything.
"I'm sorry."
"It'll be okay. She's perfect." Joy said looking to where her daughter disappeared. "Genevieve!"
"Mommy! I got a flower!" The little girl came running around the corner towards her mother. There was a daisy in her hands. "Isn't it pretty?" She came to her mother's legs and hugged them. Joy picked the little girl up. "Mommy is he crying?" She tilted her head while looking at Pitch.
"I believe he is sweetie." Joy responded.
Pitch felt his face and there were tears running down it. He wasn't sure why he was crying.
"Here." The little girl offered him the flower. "Grandma says that when someone's sad you should make them feel better. The flower's pretty like your eyes." She smiled at him. That smile made him think he was looking at Joy from all those years ago.
"Thank you, Genevieve." Pitch said.
End Flashback
"That's my mom." Gen said leaning against the doorway to her room. "Well me and my mom. She died when I was about 10. Mom told me about a friend she had as a kid. I met him once. He had these really pretty eyes. They were golden almost like the inside of a daisy…" Pitch turned to face her. "Just like yours." She paused it was like a light bulb went on in her head. "You knew my mother."
"Yes." Pitch said. "It was a long time ago."
"So you knew who I was when we met?"
Pitch shook his head. "No." He set the frame down. "I thought she was still…"
"Still what? Alive?" Gen said sitting down next to him. "She's been dead for years now." Gen picked the picture up. "I have her smile. Dad told me that. I have her eyes and her smile." Gen told him. "I didn't cry at her funeral. She told me I'd have to be strong for Dad." Gen smiled sadly. "There's so much she's missed…" Gen let a tear fall she quickly wiped it away. She put the picture back in its place and stood up. "I should check on the twins." She quickly walked out of the room.
Pitch couldn't help but stare after her. Pitch wasn't sure if she kept everything about her mother bottled up. He was going to have to get her to talk about it. It wouldn't be healthy for her to keep it all inside.
A/N: Hope this chapter wasn't too emotional for anyone. Tell me what you think. I believe that a new story of mine featuring Bunnymund will be up soon. It'll be called The One. Featuring my OC Riley who has a mystery about her. I don't know when it'll be up, but the next chapter of this story should be up around Thanksgiving (I hope).
