Pitch disappeared sometime around lunch. I think it may have something to do with my 'threating' him with a knife. It was just a butter knife! I was just pointing it at him I swear! I wouldn't have hurt him with it. I would have just pointed at him. I wouldn't harm someone unless I had to. Or if I really wanted to I guess.
Dad and Allison came back around dinner like they said they would. I avoided my father. I was slightly mad at him. I don't think he knew I was. I think he thought I wanted to be relived of my duties of watching the twins. It ate at me the entire night about talking with my dad. I should just have a heart to heart with him. I wasn't sure if we were ready, but maybe that was the thing maybe we'd never be ready we just had to have the talk.
Pitch came to talk to me again a day after Dad came home. He wanted to make sure I was okay. Pitch was worried about me and told me to be careful.
"Who's this kid?" My dad showed up as I was talking to Pitch by 'our' tree. It just happened to be the tree I had met him and his nightmare.
"Uh…." Was all that could come out of my mouth. I couldn't form the words. I'd never been caught with a guy by my father before.
"I'm Pitch, sir. Pitch Black." Vamp-boy held out his hand to my father. I was dreaming I had to be. Pitch just called my father 'sir'. I wasn't even sure he had the respect of authority. "I'm courting your daughter."
I had to be dreaming. Pitch just said 'courting'. Who says courting anymore? Of course I would be dating an ancient being. He would one to use the word. Oh, I did not want to know my father's reaction. I didn't even know that I wanted my father to know I was dating a guy.
"Why didn't you tell me about this Genevieve?" Dad asked. Full name I was in slight trouble. Probably he was a bit hurt that I didn't tell him about Pitch, but it was a new development.
"It's a new thing?" I wasn't sure myself. "I wouldn't say courting. I would say getting to know each other better?" I tried to cover my tracks. Unfortunately, when you have younger siblings they like to ruin things for you. They came running out screaming Pitch's name.
"How does he know them?" Dad asked his stare I swear was going into my soul and pulling out the truth.
"He met them when you were gone." I said in such a low tone that I wasn't even sure I had said the words.
"We need to have a talk." Dad said in a tone that made me know I was in trouble. I wasn't supposed to have people over that Allison and him had never met, but I didn't invite him over he just sort of showed up.
"Okay." I admitted defeat. I would have this talk with my father. Something in my heart was telling me when I had this talk I would…should bring up about my feelings about Mom.
The twins were taken to bed by Allison. Dad had somehow allowed Pitch to stay for the rest of the day including dinner. We had an interesting dinner Allison sort of kept Dad in check with clearing her throat when Dad started to ask weird questions. Pitch even answered the questions even though Allison and I told him that he didn't have to. After dinner I'd walked Pitch to the door. I cursed him out in harsh whispers, but he gave me a kiss before he left. I was embarrassed when Dad apparently cleared his throat from the doorway.
"Bye." Pitch and I said at the same time before he walked away.
"Gen." My father said nodding towards the living room. I knew now was the time we were going to talk. Dad sat on the couch and patted the seat next to him. I reluctantly took the seat. Pandora and Diego seemed to know what was going to happen and fled the room.
"Dad, I…" He shushed me before I could continue.
"Gen, I don't mind you dating a boy. I was just surprised is all." Dad started. "I just didn't expect you to just bring a guy over when your mom and I weren't home." He just called Allison my mom. She isn't my mother! She's just my mother's replacement! "I just want you to ask one of us next time. I wouldn't want the twins to get any ideas. Right, honey pea?" He used Mom's nickname. He only ever called Mom honey pea. It was an inside thing with them and he said he'd never have another honey pea now here he was calling Allison….I felt like something snap.
"She's not your honey pea! She's not my mom! She's just the woman you married!" I shouted at him standing. "Mom was your honey pea! Remember? She was your honey pea not her!" I pointed at Allison. "You're just throwing Mom away aren't you? You want to pretend she never existed!" I was angry all I could feel was rage. "You threw her away! All her stuff! The toys she gave ME!" I could feel the tears starting to flow and I still continued. "YOU THREW AWAY MISS TALLULAH!" I shouted remember the stuffed star that Mom had won at a fair not long before her death. I loved that toy so much in the few months I had it. "YOU HAD NO RIGHT!"
"Gen, I didn't…." My dad tied to talk, but I wouldn't let him.
"Didn't what? To remember your wife? To remember that you had a daughter!?" I said before I said something that I've been wanting to ask him about for years. "You tried to get rid of me too! You asked Aunt Amy if she wanted custody!" I shouted louder than I probably have in my entire life. My father's face fell. I knew then he was regretting what he'd done to me. "You thought I didn't hear that conversation did you? You wanted me gone. Just because I looked like Mom! You think I don't feel the pain too? Looking in the mirror every day and seeing her eyes!?" I couldn't look at my father anymore; I looked up and saw Allison had tears in her eyes too. I ran. I ran away.
I ran into town. I almost ended up at Beth's but I saw that she and Frank were watching a movie all happy. I didn't want to ruin their night. So I ended up where any other 21 year old would go a bar. The bartender was my old babysitter, Maggie, from back when Allison and Dad were dating. She poured me a glass of water and gave me a box of tissues.
"You finally let it out, huh?" She asked. I nodded. "Want to head to my apartment upstairs? It's less noisy. Hannah has been learning the piano, I'm sure that she would love a new audience." Maggie informed me. "You can spend the night. I won't tell your dad you're here." She gave me a smile. "You'll have a more level head in the morning. I'll even drive you home."
"Thanks, Maggie." I said heading towards the door that lead to her and her daughter's apartment upstairs. "I owe you one."
"I owe you plenty girl. You don't owe me anything."
With that I walked up stairs hoping to cool off for the night and return home in the morning.
