I couldn't sleep that night so I wrote a note to everyone that I knew. I wanted to apologize, but still get all my feelings out. I'd run away from my situation which I have to say was very cowardly, but it probably was the right decision. I became restless after Maggie closed up and went to sleep.

Maggie,

I went home. I know it's like 2am, but I'm going home. Thanks for letting me stay here for a bit.

-Gen

I left through the house's door and locked up behind me only realizing I'd left behind my notes, well more like letters on some of them. They'd been quite long to my siblings, father, Allison, Beth, and Frank. I cursed myself, but figured I could go back for them later. Maggie would probably see them and leave them there for me to go back and get. That is if she didn't come and give them to me when she woke up.

I dragged my feet going home. I had no idea how I was going to feel when I actually saw my parents again. I was taking the long way home too. I knew that was probably best so I could think. I was jarred out of my thoughts by a familiar high pitched beeping sound. A fire alarm was going off. I looked around trying to see if the beeping was real or not. If it was I should be able to see the flames. And there was the horrifying familiar orange glow of flames in the window of a house across the street in the cul de sac.

I reached for my cellphone, but realized I left it at home. So I went to the nearest house and started pounding on the front door. "WAKE UP!" I shouted as I kept looking back at the house slowly going up in flames. "WAKE UP! FIRE! EMERGENCY!" The door was answered and of course I had to wake up a cranky old man. I didn't let him get a word in before I started spewing out things. "Call 9-1-1, that house is on fire!" I told him as his wife came around the corner with the phone probably calling 9-1-1 on me thinking I was breaking in. "There's a fire. Call for help."

"That's the Miller's place." The woman said with her husband.

"The Miller's?" I Said trying to think of where I'd heard that name. I stared out towards the house as the man pushed passed me and started towards it barking some order at his wife to wake up the neighbors.

I hadn't noticed, but I'd followed the man towards the burning home. "The Miller's have about 7 kids. The oldest just graduated high school..."

"at 15 with a full ride to Princeton." I said remembering the news story. There wasn't a lot of exciting news, but in a small town like this one it was big news when someone got a full ride to college especially one like he did. "Are they home?" I asked as we neared the house and didn't see anyone trying to even come out of the burning home.

"Should be." The man said. I could hear the sirens of the volunteer firemen call go out.

I saw a light. It was very faint almost like a lightning bug, but it was white. The light same from the back yard and I followed it back there. The flames could barely be seen from the back. There was just a faint orange glow from the downstairs windows. The man had apparently followed me and threw something at the back window, it broke the window and someone cam e running towards it.

"YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE!" the man and I shouted. The person reacted quickly and soon enough there was a ladder out the window and people climbing down it. It was one of those fire escape ladders that you could buy at the store for second floor escapes in case of fire. The man and I helped the people. There I counted and there were 8.

"Where's the last one?" The man shouted as the father came down from the ladder last.

The mother of all the children spoke as she hugged them close. "He's in the basement. " She coughed up the smoke. "We couldn't get down the stairs. The flames were right there."

"There's only one window…" The man I'd come with said. I could hear the sirens of the fire trucks zooming down the empty streets.

"I can't fit." Said the father. "Jacob sleeps like the dead. Someone has to go get him."

The wife was crying and so did the other kids probably believe that Jacob was going to die. I looked at the window. There were no flames in it yet, but the flames had started to go upstairs and the downstairs was getting more engulfed. The flames were almost to the back of the house, but not yet. The window was small, but "I can fit." I said not believing the words came out of my mouth. I was terrified of this fire. I was more scared that this 'Jacob' kid wasn't going to live. From what I could tell the kid had to be the one with the scholarship. He had a whole life to live and if I had anything to say about it I would not let the kid die like this.

"What?"

"I can fit." I said again not believing that the words came out of my mouth twice. "Break the window. I'll go in and get him out. He'll fit right?" I asked. I'd never seen this kid as far as I knew he was a 600lbs 15 year old.

"Yes." The mother said as the father and the man just broke the window, smoke spewed out. "Thank you. What's your name?" The mother asked.

"I'm Gen." I told her walking towards the window. The man and father looked ready to lower me in smoke was pouring out the window. The fire must have spread into the basement without us being able to see it.

"The door to his room will be on the left wall about 5 feet from the corner. Just follow the wall. His bed is right to the right of the door." The mother said. "Thank you." She gave me a hug.

Have you ever felt like this is a horrible decision and you're going to die? Yeah, that's how I felt at this exact moment. I was going to die. I knew I was going to die. I might survive getting out of the house, but I knew I was going to die.

The two men grabbed my arms and lowered me into the window feet first. I didn't touch the ground. "Let go." I said and they did. I landed and realized getting back up would be a little harder than getting down was, but that wasn't my problem for right now. I followed the wall to the left and found the kid's door. He wasn't in bed. The bastard was up and awake. I could hear him. "Jacob?" I said in the darkness getting low. I couldn't stand the smoke was making me cough. I found the 15 year old hiding under his bed when I went low to the ground, like you're supposed to. "Let's go kid." I told him.

"Who are you?" He asked crawling out.

"I'm Gen." I said as I a loud crack came from above us. "We got to go." I grabbed his arm and yanked. We made our way back to the window. The only way we found it was there was a light being shined in. People were shouting and talking about somehow breaking down the wall. "We're here!" I shouted. Reaching towards the window, I couldn't reach the bottom of it I was several inches away.

Jacob stood next to me coughing in all the smoke I was too. We both covered our mouths with our shirts. I went back to the ground and pulled him down with me. "I can't reach that." Jacob told me sounding terrified. "I'm too short." I noticed he was several good inches shorter than me when we stood.

"How much do you weigh?" I asked thinking up a plan. I might be able to lift the kid up and to the window where someone could pull him through, but that didn't leave much of an option for me besides jumping up and hoping I can reach the bottom.

"I don't know." He said hysterically. "I don't know. I don't know!" I could tell he was panicking. I couldn't think of a good way to calm him down so I smacked him. "Like 130 max." He gave me a straight answer.

"Okay." I said. I couldn't lift him high enough with my arms. He was going to have to climb up on me. "I'm going to be your stool. You're going to stand on me okay?" I think he nodded, but the smoke was getting too thick to see. "Okay?"

"Okay." He said. "what about you?"

"I'm going to have to jump and reach for the edge. " I knew I should hopefully be able to pull myself up. Frank, Beth, and I had been working on doing pull ups and things at the gym in college. "If I don't make it tell my dad I'm sorry."

"Don't say that." Jacob said.

"I said 'if'." I said getting onto my hands and knees against the wall right under the window. "Ready?"

"Yeah."

"Go." I told him and he scrambled up. He must've been able to reach it and people must have seen him because he was lifted off my back quickly. "Okay I can do this." I ran and missed the window and started a coughing fit. The coughing forced me to kiss the floor to get clean air. I knew I wouldn't have much more chances. I got back up. Ran and jumped.

A/N: Last chapter for 2014 or is it? I could write another sometime today or not all depends. IF I get 4 reviews I will right the next chapter and the cliff hanger will not have to be so long of a wait now will it?

4 reviews and I'll write another chapter before 2014 ends
