Chapter 41 – 32 Weeks continued…

Rick opened his office door and ran out, "What's going on?"

"She fell dad, she isn't awake." Alexis choked through her tears.

"Kate!," Rick yelled as he ran towards her.

Lanie came running down the stairs, "What happened, what did you do to her."

"She fell, running after me." Rick spit out as he dropped to his knees next to Kate, "Lanie, call 911."

He turned her body on to her back and checked her pulse, she was still breathing, but unconscious.

"Please, hurry." Lanie spoke into the phone before hanging up, "They're on the way."

Rick cradled Kate's head in his lap and slowly brushed her hair aside, stroking her cheek with his hand and kissing her forehead. "It's gonna be okay, you and the baby are going to be okay, just hold on for me, please Kate."

Lanie let them in when they got to the loft and they ran in, stretcher in tow.

"Whats her name?" The EMS worker asked Rick.

"Katherine Beckett, she is 32 weeks along. She was running down the stairs and fell."

"Okay, I assume you're her husband?"

"Fiance, and father of the baby."

"Okay, and your name."

"Rick, Rick Castle."

"Okay, Rick, I need you to give us some space so we can load her on to the stretcher. Her pulse is strong, but we need to get her out of here as soon as possible to check on the baby and make sure they are both healthy."

"Should I meet you at the hospital, or can I ride along."

"You can ride with if you'd like."

"Yes, of course, Lanie, can you watch Lex?"

"Of course I'll stay here with her." Lanie spoke softly as the tears fell down her face.

"She is going to be fine Lanie, her and the baby both."

Lanie nodded as she pulled Alexis into her side. The little girl had been silent since yelling for her dad. She was in shock, and Castle could see the confusion and sadness in her eyes. He walked over and knelt before her, pressing a kiss to her cheek.

"Kate and the baby are both going to be fine. You stay with Lanie, okay, be good, and try not to worry, I'll call as soon as I can."

The little girl nodded and threw her arms around her dads neck.

"I love you baby girl."

"Love you too Daddy." She responded in a whisper.

Rick jumped up when the EMS started to wheel Kate out quickly, running out the door behind them.

Rick sat next to her hospital bed, hand clasped around her fingers as the machines around her beeped. He hated that sound, the repetitive, loud beeping, but he loved that sound, repetitive, loud beeping signaling that everything was normal for the moment. Her heart was still beating and so was their baby's heart. Kate had remained unconscious, and the doctors weren't sure when she would wake up.

The door cracked open and Johanna slid through, walking over to Rick and placing her hand on his shoulder.

"You can take a break, get something to eat maybe."

"I'm not leaving her, she could wake up, she's gonna be scared." He looked up to meet her mothers eyes.

"Rick.. if she wakes up, I'll call immediately."

"I have to be here when she wakes up, this is my fault."

"Rick, it was an accident." Johanna started to rub circles over his back.

"You don't know that, you weren't there. If I wouldn't have ran away like a child, if I would have just stopped and talked to her like she asked, she was begging me to stop and I ran away. I was upset with her, I was furious, and hurt." The tears began to choke him up and his head fell to the bed in front of him.

"Kate, please wake up baby, please, please….. please." He begged, kissing her hand.

Johanna placed her hand over his and Kates, "Rick she's fine, the baby is fine the doctors said that she was just knocked unconscious."

"Then why isn't she awake? Why is she still unconscious?" he screamed, startling Johanna.

"I don't know, but I trust what they say. I'm her mother, I'm just as nervous as you, I'm scared too, but if the doctor says she's fine then we have to believe that."

"I can't just believe that she is going to wake up and be fine, she fell down a flight of stairs and was knocked unconscious. If something serious is wrong, if something happens to her, or our son I will never forgive myself."

"Rick, I wasn't there, I don't know what you all were fighting about or why she thought it was okay to take off after you down a flight of stairs. She knew better, she is pregnant, very pregnant."

"She was scared because I was hurt, she could see it in my eyes, she was just trying to fix it, she just wanted to make sure I was okay, I know her, she wanted to make sure we were okay."

"What happened Rick?" Johanna asked.

"I overheard her talking to Lanie, she was telling her about how she wasn't attracted to me anymore… in that way." He sighed, embarrassment keeping him from saying any more.

"She's pregnant, that's normal. It has nothing to do with how much she loves you. I know she loves you, she loves you and this baby more than anything in the whole world."

"I know she does, I know she loves me. She has been so distant from me lately, and I confronted her about it earlier this morning. I wanted to take her away for the weekend, for a night, just to have some time alone together to watch a movie even and she didn't want to go, she doesn't ever want to be around me anymore."

"Again, that's normal. When I was pregnant with Kate, I hated Jim, especially the last few months. I was in charge of growing a human being, and it was stressful, and he was the one I blamed."

"So she's mad at me because I got her pregnant."

Johanna let out a nervous laugh, "Let's be clear about one thing, you didn't get her pregnant. She is old enough to know how birth control works, she was in charge of her own body, she allowed that to happen, not you."

"We should have used condoms every time."

"Yeah, maybe you should have, but when this little boy gets here," she ran her hand over Kate's stomach, "You'll be so happy that you forgot protection."

"I already am." He admitted nervously, taking his hand and resting it on her abdomen next to Johanna's.

"I know you are, I see it in your eyes every time you all talk about this baby. You're going to be a great father to this little boy, and Kate… She is so lucky to have someone like you to help her raise this child."

"You think?"

"When Kate told us she was pregnant, her father and I were going through a hard time, a really hard time, but you, and Kate, and this baby have brought us back together, we are closer than ever. You gave us a reason to work on things, to fix things. We want to be great grandparents, together. You gave us that."

"You gave me her."

"and you gave her … him." She placed her hand over his on her stomach. "She will always love you Rick, always."

"Always." Kate repeated softly, her eyes fluttering open.

Giddy up, I've been struck with some inspiration lately.

Reviews mean more updates. I appreciate all the love that you all have given me throughout this story. It's my first time writing anything and it's been quite an experience. I did get a little discouraged because of mean things people were writing but I've realized that I cant please everyone.

I hope you continue to enjoy this story.
