Chapter 48 - 36 Weeks
"Baby, wake up." Rick whispered into her ear as he peppered kisses down her neck and over her shoulder.
"Sleep, five minutes." She whispered back, receiving a laugh in return.
"No way, it's already 11 o'clock, and I have plans for you today."
"11 o'clock?" her eyes shot open, "Oh, shit! I missed my alarm, is Alexis awake?"
He tightened his hold on her waist and placed another kiss on her shoulder blade.
"Babe, I took her to school this morning. I turned your alarm off so you could sleep. I know you need the sleep, you tossed and turned half the night."
"Yeah, well your son would not stop doing summersaults in my stomach."
"Well, I bet all that sugar before bed didn't help at all." He teased as he brushed her hair back off her neck and placed another soft kiss on her shoulder.
"What is with you this morning, so lovey dovey?" she asked, quirking a brow and looking back over her shoulder at him.

"Just because you've been ignoring it, doesn't mean I'm going to." He whispered as he placed another kiss on her cheek and then rolled over and out of bed. "Now, up!"
"Rick, I told you I didn't want to do anything this year, I'm big and fat and my ankles are non-existant!" She whined.
"You only have a 20th birthday once, now get your ass up and get to the bathroom, I ran you a bath and its getting colder by the minute!" he demanded, walking to her side to help pull her up.
"Now, the hot bath I can do right now, I ache everywhere."
"Well, come on then. I'm taking you to lunch, then a couples massage and a little bit of shopping. Mother is getting Alexis from school and keeping her tonight."

"Yup, after a year I'd have to switch to the guest room." He winked at her and pressed a kiss to her mouth, releasing his hold on her. She grabbed his shirt and pulled him close again, pressing another kiss to his mouth.
"I'll make you a deal, if I'm feeling up to it tonight, we can have play time."
"Oooooh, play time!" he stepped back, rubbing his hands together. "Promise?"
"No, I don't promise. I said if I was feeling up to it, but it is my birthday, and I'm in a good mood, so the chances are better than usual."
"Well, I hope so. My chances are always at zero."
"Well today you actually have a shot, so keep up the sweetness and mommy and daddy can have some fun tonight." She pressed a kiss to his cheek before turning to make her way into the bathroom.

After a nice lunch and their massages, Rick took Kate to a high end maternity store to buy her a few new outfits, insisting on buying her at least one nice dress for their evening.
"Rick, I thought we were staying in?" She yelled out from the dressing room.
"I never said that, it's your birthday and we don't get much time alone these days and even that small amount of time is going to dwindle even more soon so can I have one night with you. Just one, I'll even exchange my play time for it."
She poked her head out from behind the curtain, "Richard Castle, what are you up to?"
"Why do I have to be up to something? Cant I just want to treat you on your birthday?"
"I appreciate it, I do, but I know you, and you are up to something."
"Oh, stop over analyzing. My motives are pure. I just want you to have a great night."
"Babe, I have already had an amazing day, I would rather just cuddle up with you in bed and watch a movie."
"Ah hah! I knew you didn't want to have sex."
She slammed the curtain shut again and laughed, "I never said I didn't want to have sex, you know that cuddling can lead to other activities."
"I must have forgotten, it's been a while."

"Fine, but you know it's your birthday right, not mine, you don't owe me sex, or any favors for that matter. I'm a grown man, I can handle no sex for a little while."
She opened the curtain and walked out, a dress slung over her arm, "I found one I like, and it doesn't make me look like a beached whale." She smiled, and handed the dress to him, "and I know I don't owe you sex, but you have been very patient with me and respectful. So what if I want to reward you, that's my choice."
"Yeah it's your choice, but I don't want you to be uncomfortable, so cuddling is fine, I can deal with cuddling for now."
"Rick, stop talking about it, if I want to get laid tonight, on my birthday are you really going to deny me."
"No."
"Then shut up about it. Now lets pay for this dress and go." She lifted up on her toes and gave him a kiss before lowering herself and grabbing his hand.

As they walked out of their building to get into the car waiting to take them to dinner, Kate grabbed Ricks hand tight and took a deep breath."
"You okay?"
"Yeah, he is just kicking really hard tonight."
"Well he is getting pretty big in there, not much room to move around I'd say." He smiled and helped her into the car.
"So where are we going tonight?"
"Actually we are going to a place called the Old Haunt, it's where I wrote my first book. It's a bar/restaurant, but the food is to die for, and I've actually been looking in to buying the place. The owner passed away a year ago and his son is trying to sell."
"I see, well I cant wait. I am absolutely starving!"
They arrived at the Old Haunt and Rick helped Kate down the stairs to the door, as soon as he opened it for her and she walked in she noticed that it was pretty empty.
"Rick, did you rent it out for just the two…"
"SURPRISE!" everyone yelled as they popped out of their hiding spaces.

"Oh my gosh, you all almost scared this baby out of me." She said as she looked back at Ricks smiling face. "I knew you were up to something."
"And I worked so hard to hide it from you, what's my tell?"
"I just knew there was no way you would choose dinner over even the slightest chance of getting lucky unless it was important."
He laughed and pulled her in for a hug, "I love you, now go see your friends."
The first to approach was Lanie of course of gave her a hug and kiss on the cheek an even a rub to her belly. "Oh my nephew is getting so big!"
"Yeah, he is killing me today, I don't know why he is so active, very unlike him."
"He can probably sense that it's your birthday and he is just excited for some cake."
Kate's parents were both there along with many other friends and family members. Rick had made sure that there was plenty of food to go around and her birthday cake was huge. They spent the night mingling with friends who were all treating this party as if it were Kate's 21st birthday party. There was plenty of tipsy dancing and laughing, Rick had even snuck a few cocktails, but tried not to rub it in Kates face. She caught him trying to hide his drink at one point and made her way over to him.
"You know I don't care if you get drunk babe, just because I cant drink doesn't mean I don't want you to enjoy yourself."
"I know, just trying to not rub it in your face."
"You act like I'm an alcoholic, I'm just pregnant." She smiled and he took another sip of his drink, she grabbed his other hand and intertwined their fingers pulling his hand up to her mouth and placing a soft kiss on it, "Just not too much, if you're planning on, you know," she winked.
He sat his glass down and smiled, "No more."
The party died down at a decent hour, mostly because Rick shut the bar down at 11, people got the hint, Kate was a pregnant woman after all, so no one whined about it ending early. Everyone said their goodbyes and cleared out, which Kate was more than excited about. She had actually been looking forward to her alone time with Rick when she got home. It had been 6 weeks since they had been intimate at all and that was her fault, but there was something about him tonight that made her want him. When they got back to their building Jerry opened the door for her and complimented her dress, "Miss Kate, you sure look beautiful tonight."
"Thank you Jerry, it's my birthday and my wonderful fiancé bought this for me today." She winked at Rick.
"Well, Happy Birthday, I hope it was amazing!"
"Oh, it was." She smiled, "and only gonna get better." She whispered to Castle as they made their way into the elevator.
As soon as the door was closed she cornered him, lifting up on her tiptoes to kiss him, which he was more than happy to return. His hands made their way around her body, digging into her ass as he pulled her in tight.

"RICK!" She yelled loud enough so that he could hear her.
"What babe, want to shower together?" He asked as he made his way through the door behind her.
