Penelope's pov
"You girls should sit down" said Hay lin as she pulled up a chair for her to sit down. We all sat down to listen to what she wanted to say. There was a minute silence before she finally spoke
"Girls" started Hay Lin. "Do you believe in magic?"
"Not exactly" answered Olivia
"Well, all around us there is magic. Earth has been protected by great warriors and heroes of different magic dimensions. Normal humans can't see them because they don't have magic" said Hay lin
"So do we have magic?, and if so, how come we don't see all those stuff?" I asked
"I'm not sure, but I know that you'll be able to see them soon."
"Wait wait wait. I don't exactly believe any of this stuff. Maybe she's just pulling our legs girls." said Emily
"Oh come on Emily. She's an old lady. How could she ever lie?" asked Wendy
"She aint that old" protested Rani
"Ah Emily. You're just like my friend Cornelia. She never believed that she had magic, until some time later." said Hay lin "Enough about that. Are you ready to hear the good part?"
"Yes?" we all said
"Good. Now listen very carefully: In the magic dimension, there is a place called Kandrakar, where there is peace and good in all it's, well, goodness. Now, there is a magical barrier that protects Kandrakar from any attack. This is called the Veil. And there are protectors who keep the veil going. These people are called Guardians."
"So they're like what? Guardians of the Veil?" asked Olivia
"Good! You're catching up!" said Hay lin. Olivia just formed an 'o' shape with her mouth "Anyways, there have been many generations of guardians even up till today. I'll be right back" She went to an old bookshelf and brought out an album. She dropped the album on the table.
"An album?" asked Rani
"A guardian album. Shows the line of guradians so far. Wanna see?" asked Hay lin
"Yes!" we all said in unison.
"Okay." She opened the album and showed us the pictures. "This is the first generation of guardians called CHYKN."
"chicken?" asked Olivia, chuckling
"No not chicken. CHYKN. It's their name. It consisted of girls named Cassidy, Halinor, Yan Lin, Kadma and Nerissa." she said
"Great grandma? She was a guardian?" asked Rani
"Yes. She was the guardian of Air" said Hay lin. She flipped the page and we saw another picture titled WITCH
"Witch?" asked Emily
"Yes. I came up with the name. It comprised of girls named Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia..."
"And Hay lin! You were a guardian!" exclaimed Rani
"Oh yes. And it was quite an adventure." said Hay lin. She turned the next page and it was blank
"It's empty." said Wendy
"Yes. This is for the next generation of guardians. That's where you girls come in."
"Oh really?" asked Olivia
"Yes. And it's time you mastered your powers. Starting with the basics. But first things first" she said. She went over to the shaking box and brought it over to the table. She opened it and a beautiful pink crystal floated out of the box, shinning
"Wow!" We all said in unison
"This, girls, is the Heart of Kandrakar. It's the thing that keeps Kandrakar hale and hearty. It must be protected at all costs. Which is why it requires a keeper. Which is one of the guardians." said Hay lin
"So one of us is supposed to be the keeper?" asked Emily
"Yes."
"And we're supposed to protect it with our lives..." asked Wendy
"yup!" answered hay lin
There was a long silence until...
"I nominate Penelope!" yelled Olivia
"What?! Why me? I choose Wendy!" i yelled
"W-wha? No! What about Rani?" attacked Wendy
"No way! pick Emily!" defended Rani
"Nu-uh!" said Emily
"Girls! Girls! Calm down! You're not the one to decide who keeps the heart/protect it. It is the heart that decides" said Hay lin
"Fine" said the rest of the girls. Everyone was silent and the heart started moving around the girls. It finally slowed down and stopped in front of...
"Penelope!" exclaimed Wendy "You're the keeper of the heart!"
"Wait...what? who? me? why?" I asked
"Because it is your destiny Penelope." replied Hay lin
"But... me?"
"yes!" we all replied
"fine fine..." I said " so what now?"
"You take the heart" said hay lin. I reached out to the heart as it slowly mad it's way towards me. I finally clutched it and held it in my hands. It stopped glowing and looked normal
"Cool" said Olivia
"I know. Well, it's getting late, You girls better get home." said Hay lin as she went upstairs. The rest of the girls went home. I went home too.
~At the Brooke's home~
"Mum! I'm home!" I yelled
"Oh hey Penelope" said my mum "This is a weird time for you to come home. Anything wrong?"
"Oh nothing. Just...hanging out with my friends that's all" I replied
"Oh wow. You got new friends?"
"Yeah. Well, goodnight" I said as I went up the stairs
"Wait! What about dinner?"
"Oh I'm not hungry. Bye!" I said as I slammed my door shut
~In Penelope's room~
"*sigh* A whole new life. New town, new friends and... new powers and responsibilities." I said to myself. I put on my pjs and went straight to bed. I turned out the lights and brought out the heart, which I had been wearing on my neck. The bright glow lightened the room. I sighed again and put it back in my torso. I fell asleep in a flash. I actually felt safe wih the heart.

-The next day-
Olivia's pov~
Well I guess I've been adapting to my new powers, kind of. And so have the other girls been. Well, except for Emily, who isn't so comfortaable with her new plant powers. We were standing at the Sheffield gate, chatting when Penelope came in with a blank expression on her face.
"Hey Nelope" I said
"Nelope? Is that a new nickname for me?" asked Penelope
"Yup? Like it?" I asked
"Umm... maybe." she replied
"Hey Penelope" said Wendy
"Oh hey girls."
"So, how are you coping with your powers?" asked Emily
"And the heart?" asked Rani
"Okay I guess" answered Penelope
"Really?" I asked
"yep" she said
"Well we better get moving if we don't wanna be late for class." said Wendy and we all went inside
~Penelope's pov~
I came inside the school doors and one of my books fell. I bent over to pick it but...
~THUD~
A boy bumped into me and I fell over.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so so sorry" said the boy "I'm so clumsy"
"Wow! Ya think?!" I replied angrily
"Let me help you up"
"Uh no thanks!" I said and got up. I dusted my clothes and picked up my books
"Are you okay?" asked the boy
"I'm fine!" I said and turned to see his face. I gotta admit, he did look cute... WHAT AM I THINKING?! "Sorry, didn't mean to use a harsh tone"
"S'okay. I'm Dan.
"I'm Penelope. I'm new here." I said
"I can tell." he said
"Watch it!" I said
"Sorry. So..."
"Are you trying to flirt with me?" I asked
"maybe?.." he said
"Well I don't have time for that." I said, walking away. He followed me and stood in front of me
"Wait! Can't we just, you know, go out for coffee or something?" he asked
"ummm... nah!" I replied and walked through his side. He still followed me.
"Oh really?"
"Really." I said
"Okay..." he said and walked away
"Boy am I glad that's over" I said to myself and walked straight to class
~2 hours later~ (still penelope's pov)
I was heading for Health class with the other girls and...Dan. Ugh! I sat on a chair and he waved at me. I smiled faintly and faced emily who had a devious smile on her face
"So...who's the guy?" asked an excited Emily
"No-one" I replied plainly
"Oh come on. You clearly like him"
"we just met 2 hours ago!" I defended
"So what?" asked Emily "Love knows no bounds"
"You're insane Emily" I said before the teacher came in and stood in front of an unusually long table"
"Good day class" said the teacher "Today we will be learning the concept of CPR (which I still don't know what it means but if you do, please tell me. I'm too lazy to check the internet) "So you will all pick two people to be our test subjects"
"I vote me and Dan!" yelled Claire, who was, unfortunately, in the class. As far as I've seen, a lot of girls always fall for Dan. What do they see in him? Just because he has medium brown hair and... two cute dimples and that smile... I mentally slapped myself for thinking of that.
"No me and Dan" said one girl
"Nuh-uh! Me and Dan!" said another
"No me!"
"Me!"
"Calm down and have some pride girls!" I yelled to everyone which was not to appleasing to the teacher and of course, Claire.
"Shut it, newbie!" snarled Claire. I swear I felt like strangling her...! But instead...
"Try this on for size! Quintessence" I said quietly. Instantly, her hair started rising up. Another advantage of quintessence powers.
"Ack! My hair!" she screamed in horror. She tried to pull it down but when she touched it, it only shocked her "Ow!" She touched it a few more times but it only resulted in more shocks
"OMG lol" said Brittney, one of the girls
"Someone help!" she yelled and ran out
"I still think Penelope should do it with Dan" said Emily
"Emily!" I yelled quietly at her
"What?!" she asked
"I really don't want to-" i started out loud
"I don't mind doing CPR with Penelope..." said Dan. There was a series of 'ooos' in the room and I swear I was blushing a little
"Aww how cute. Now get up here! I aint got all day!" said the teacher. We both got up from out seats and walked to the front. "Now penelope is going to fake a breathing failure and dan is going to go all CPR on her. Btw, if you actually have a real breathing failure, you two get double points!" she said and sat down in her chair. Okay, how am I going to fake a real breathing failure? I picked up a cup of water and started drinking
~On one side of the classroom~
"Hey girls" said Olivia to the other guardians (of course) "Check this out!" She flipped her finger upwards and the water drenched on me.
"Olivia!" I screamed
"oops" she said smiling "Sorry"
"Now watch this!" said Rani. She swiped her finger to the right and I felt woozy. There was no oxygen in me! I fainted and felt like I was dying...
"Oh no! Penelope!" yelled Dan. He carried me and put me on the table. He held my nose tight and it reall started to get all fuzzy (my eye sight) and then...he did it. He put his lips on me! well for a good cause. He breathed air into me enough for me to stand up and beat the hell out of Olivia and Rani. but I didn't do that. Instead, I sat up and looked around and yelled...
"I'M ALIVE!" The whole class clapped and cheered. I just looked at Dan who was hidng his face from me but I could se a shade of pink on his face and there was probably on mine too. I got off the table and took permission to use the bathroom. I went to the bathroom as fast as I could and the other girls followd me
"Just in case she faints again" said Olivia as they sped out
~In the bathroom~
OMG! I am going to kill those girls! They practically humiliated me in front of the whole class...and Dan! But what do I care what Dan thinks? The other girl came in the bathroom and I just crossed my arms and glared at them.
"Well?" I said
"What?" asked Emily
"Aren't you going to apologize for the humiliation you caused me?"
"Ummm..." started Olivia
"I can't believe you did this to me. Our powers are for good and not humiliation. In exception of humiliation of bad guys" I said
"Oh really? Do you call going all quintessence on Claire good?" asked Olivia
"W-well...it was for a good cause!" I replied. The others just sighed "Just promise you won't use our powers in school again?"
"You promise too!" said Rani
"Fine. I promise not to use my powers in school again!" i said
"Us too" The rest said. We all left the bathroom afterwards
-Normal pov-
Unknowingly in the bathroom, there wa a girl hiding in one of the latrines, listening to the girl's conversations.
"Powers?...Interesting." said the girl. The door opened and out came...
