Chapter 20

A fresh beginning...

After all that had happened, Maggie and Glenn thought it was time to go for a run to get more formula for baby Judith, or as Daryl called her, Little Ass Kicker. It had only been a few days since Daryl had found Carol held up in one of the cells, after everyone had thought she had perished with T-Dog.

When they had made it into a small town not too far from the prison, Maggie and Glenn sussed it out and came to the conclusion that it was safe to enter. As the couple grabbed some formula, they both turned around at the same time to five walkers coming at them. It all happened too fast and before they knew it, they were on the floor fighting for their lives.
"MAGGIE!" Glenn yelled as he wrestled the slobbering Walker above his body. Next thing he knew, the Walkers head was no longer attached to the body...
"WHAT THE HELL..."
A hand reached out in front of Glenn, and he took it and as he got to his feet, he looked at the stranger in front of him .
A man in his mid 20s with a strong and muscular body stared back at him, holding a M3 and Glenn knew straight away that this guy must've been in the army or something along those lines.
Maggie's squeal of disbelief brought Glenn back to reality and he turned to his girlfriend who was hugging someone. When they broke apart, Glenn could hardly believe his eyes
"Sam?" he asked, tilting his head slightly as the stranger looked back and forth "You know these people?"
Before Sam could answer the solider looking stranger, the familiar moans of Walkers began up again towards the back of the shop.
"No time for reunion we've been here too long"

Once the four of them had made it to the skirts of the bushland, Glenn and Maggie could finally take it in that Sam is alive.
"We thought you were dead! Daryl went back to look for you and found Shane..."
Sam looked down at the ground quickly at the mention of Shane's name but then composed herself and shrugged
"I'm just lucky then..." she said smiling over at the solider whose name is Kaiden who was scoping out the area.

After they'd found out Sam had been found by a group much like their own after only a few days and she'd been with them this whole time. Kaiden was in the Navy and a few of his men had been stationed to help out the Army once the outbreak had happened. Kaiden had the typical fit soldier body but didn't have a crew cut, well atleast he didn't anymore. He had light brown, nearly blonde hair which was a bit curly and emerald-green eyes - Glenn wasn't going to deny that this guy was certainly popular with the ladies. Sam had changed since they'd last seen , the Navy boys had toughened her up - the body was more toned with muscle around her legs and arms, and instead of her long blonde hair waving in the wind, it had been cropped in a style like the famous singer Rihanna, edging at an angle.

Once they'd made it to the prison, Kaiden headed back to where there other group was to bring them here
"Are you sure we can just join you guys?" Sam asked Maggie as Glenn closed the front gate behind them
"You're family Sam, and whoever is your family... then there ours..."

After the shock of Sam being alive died down in the prison, Sam ways given the low down on all that has happened so far, and who of course had died. It was horrible that they had lost so many... Andrea, Shane, T-Dog, Lori... but Sam was thankful she didn't hear one name.
As Maggie showed Sam to a cell, she kept looking around the cell block and Maggie smiled at her
"He sleeps on the perch..." she nodded to where Daryl slept. Sam glanced up and could make out a jacket lying on the ground scrunched up like a pillow. As Sam imagined Daryl lying peacefully asleep, Beth came over holding baby Judith.
"He saved her, you know?" Beth said bopping the sleeping baby in her arms "And Carol..." Sam took in what Beth had said but couldn't stand looking at the baby in her arms, it made her stomach hurt. Maggie noticed how uncomfortable Sam was and told her sister to put Judith to sleep. Sam lightly smiled in thanks at Maggie as they sat down at a table, she guessed where visitors were allowed to wait.
"I dont know what came over me, seeing that baby... it just made me think of the baby I lost..." Maggie put her hands up, as if to say Sam didn't need to explain herself "So what's going on with Daryl and Carol?"
Maggie then told Sam how hard it had been for Daryl once they'd all thought she was dead and that Carol had been there for him, and they had a bond now.
"What about you and that Kaiden guy? what's the go with him?" Maggie asked with a girlish grin on her face
"He's the one who found me, I was nearly dead... I had passed out from dehydration... he could've left me but he didnt... he's a great guy..."
Maggie raised her eyebrow playfully "He's also a very hot guy..."
Sam half laughed "He is, he is... but there's always been and always will be one guy for me..."
Both Maggie and Sams head shot up when Daryls voice echoed through the cell block, alogn with Carols.

Daryl stood with Carol, aimlessly talking about the squirrels he'd managed to catch while everyone stood around, smiling at him.
"What ya'll gawking at? ya'll have seen dead squirrels before!"
Glenn coughed in the direction of Maggie and stood aside for Daryl to see Sam standing at the edge of the stairs leading up to his perch.
Carols mouth fell open as Daryl dropped his dead squirrels to the ground "What the hell?"
