Daryl couldn't believe his eyes, he thought he strayed into a dream but his eyes were wide open. Sam stood silently in front of him; he could take one step and have her in his arms. He had wanted this moment for months and had never forgiven himself for leaving her that night with Shane. He had thought she had died and he'd blamed himself.
"Hey" Sam half whispered with a light smile. Daryl looked her up and down, noticing her appearance had changed. Her body was more muscular than before, her legs and arms toned and her long luscious blonde locks had been cut off and fell just before her shoulders in a soft bob.

Maggie and Glenn glanced at each other, sensing the tension between Sam and Daryl
"Well maybe we should go for another run, considering we didn't get the formula…"
As Maggie and Glenn walked past Sam, Maggie gently touched her arm "I'm so happy you're back".

Daryl and Sam once again stood in silence, looking back and forth from each other and the ground when suddenly a voice echoed through the cell
"Sam, everyone's getting settled in"
Kaiden, the navy guy turned the corner and dumped a gym bag full of guns onto the ground which made a big thump.
Daryl sized him up and could tell straight away what kind of bloke he was; the navy anchor tattoo on his shoulder just confirmed it.
Sam cleared her throat and introduced the two "Kaiden, this is Daryl…." Kaiden nodded and half grinned while Daryl did nothing in return. He knew exactly how those navy guys worked. They're cocky; think they know everything and think that nothing or no one can hurt them.
The guys stared each other down and Sam could tell what Darryl was thinking, of course she could because she could read him like a book.
"Kaiden found me a few days after I had lost you guys…he saved my life" Sam said in a genuine thankful tone as she turned and faced Kaiden who in return shrugged his shoulder and smiled arrogantly "Wouldn't have left someone like you to fend for yourself…" he said in a joking manner. Sam's mouth dropped and laughed "And what is that meant to mean?"
Kaiden raised his eyebrow "All I'll say is, you weren't in the best of shape when we found you. But look what we turned you into….' he teased and squeezed the muscles on her arm.
Daryl rolled his eyes and threw the dead squirrels on the ground which he had been holding and walked away. He couldn't stand and watch Sam yet again with another guy, he had already been through that with Shane and Dave.
Sam sighed , gave Kaiden an apologetic look and went after Daryl.

"So that's it huh? You aren't even going to acknowledge that I'm back, that I'm alive?!"
Daryl stopped in his tracks and smirked to himself that was the fiery Sam he missed and loved. He turned around and noticed he had sped walked outside of the prison down towards the fences where the snarling walkers stood lifelessly.
"Sam, I thought I lost you a long time ago and I couldn't deal with it. It broke me. And then today you just pop up out of nowhere with a new guy? How do ya think I'm gonna react?"
Sam crossed her arms over her chest defensively "You always assume the worst Daryl but Kaiden and I are just friends" Sam stated.
Darryl turned his head when Rick had called his name then turned back to Sam "Ya could've fooled me…"

Sam stood with the members of her old group which had shrunk in size as they all found out that Maggie and Glenn had been kidnapped from the Governor.
"Who's the Governor?" Kaiden asked with a few of his navy mates behind him while Rick, Hershel and Daryl glanced at each other, deciding whether to let their new house mates in on everything.
"We will go and get them, we don't know you guys" Rick argued with Kaiden who protested against his plan
"You don't know how many men that so called Governor has, you need all the help you can get. We're all military trained, we know how to handle a gun…."
Rick and Daryl scoffed at each other as Rick took out his colt python gun, re loaded it and pointed it while Darryl held up his Stryker Strykezone 380 crossbow
"We'll be fine.' Rick said and walked off with Daryl by his side.

Sam stood over the railings looking over cells, near Daryl's perch where his poncho was laid out. Beth came walking over, juggling baby Judith in her arms and a bottle.
Sam ignored the baby and stared back at Daryl who was sharpening one of his knives when Carol walked over to him, patted his back and handed him a bigger knife.
"He saved her life" Beth said as she noticed the way Sam watched them "they become pretty close after he had lost you, she was the only one who could make him see sense again because for a while we had lost him…" Beth explained.

Everyone gathered outside the prison, as the cars were getting packed for their mission to save Maggie and Glenn.
Sam stood with Kaiden and the other Navy boys, watching on "They'll all be killed" Kaiden said abruptly "They don't know what they're doing."
Sam had only heard bits and pieces about this Governor and had a bad feeling. Daryl walked over to Carol who was now holding baby Judith and said something to her and walked away to his car. Sam was the only one who had seen the look on Carol's face and she knew straight away…. Carol loved him.
Sam wasn't paying attention to what the navy boys were discussing now, all her thoughts were on Daryl and the death trap he was leading into it and without a seconds hesitation, she ran over his him getting into the car with Michonne.
"Please don't go Daryl"
Michonne breathed in heavily and looked at Daryl in an annoyed manner. Daryl threw his bow onto the seat and shut the door
"Let Rick and the others go, you don't need to. I already lost you once and I can't go through that again."

Sam could see Daryl contemplated her words for a few seconds but he knew he couldn't let Rick down, even though he would want to just stay back at the prison and hold her in his arms again. Daryl went to pull a stray piece of her hair back from her face but stopped himself and muttered under his breath "I have to do this".

As everyone left the prison and Carl and Hershel shut the gate after them, Carol came and stood next to Sam still holding the baby.
"Do you want to hold her?"
Carol asked sweetly but all Sam could do was watch Daryl move out of her sight. Carol had noticed how Sam hadn't given baby Judith a second glance since she'd been here
"Look, you lost your baby and I lost mine..."
Sam looked down at baby Judith and shook her head with disgust – she couldn't stand the sight of a baby after losing hers. She then finally faced Carol and looked at her with her eyebrow raised
"Yep, and we both love the same man. So I guess we both have a few things in common." Sam said turning on her feet and walked away.

Next time ... everyone returns from Woodberry including Merle, how will he react to Sam and Daryl?
