I have had too much free time, so I worked on this chapter for about five hours over the past two days. That extensive amounts of free time however must come to an end. Spring break is over tomorrow, and I go back to school. Chapters will be posted once or twice every week after this one.
Anyway, I made this chapter really long. I was tempted to put it into two different chapters, but it wouldn't flow as well (in my opinion) if I didn't. I put a little dividing thingy between the parts where I would have cut it off if I separated it. So enjoy the poorly written battle scene.
Claus looked blankly at his brother with his jaw slightly dropped.
"Claus, are you.." Lucas's voice trailed off as a response came.
"Sorry, I'm not sure how to respond to it," Claus snapped back to reality, "I know I should be glad for you to have such an amazing thing like that, but I just can't be."
"I know how you feel about it, Claus," Lucas gave his brother a half hug, giving them both a warm feeling. A bell rang. It sounded like a fire alarm, but it wasn't. Everyone's head turned around, looking for a problem.
"There's a security camera," one of the two PSI-less boys pointed, "They must have been watching."
"That's what we were betting on," Ness cracked his knuckles, "You guys up for a fight?"
Lucas was the only one who seemed unsure about having a battle. Paula however seemed okay with it. While Claus was as excited as Ness was, if not more. They all knew they would be outnumbered by about six to one.
"We're just going to sit in here," one of the nameless people said, with slight fear in his voice. "Oh, by the way, I'll tell Jeff that his dad's invention didn't work very well if you don't make it out."
"You know him?" Ness asked confusedly.
"Yeah, Jeff's one of my best friends," he nodded, "My name is Tony, if you're wondering."
"Well then, Tony. We'll see you later," Ness turned away from him and back to Claus, Paula, and Lucas. "What's the plan?"
"When we were being taken in here," Claus started explaining, "I saw a catwalk that we can use for hiding and using a few attacks from."
"Who goes up?" Paula asked him.
"I think," Ness gave his input, "Claus and Lucas should be down on the floor using PK Love or whatever that is. It took out that one pigmask more than easily on alpha level, imagine what it would do at omega. Paula and I can cover the top."
Lucas looked to his brother, who was shocked and unsure of how to respond. "Ness-"
"No, Lucas," Claus cut him off, "I can do it. But I'm not sure if you can."
Lucas's esteem was crushed. His brother's opinion was the most valuable one to him, and when Claus said that to him, he felt broken. "But Claus... I can do it."
"You just awakened it, and you don't even know how to use it. If you screw up like I did, we're in trouble. And besides, you only have PK Love right now remember? Your other skills are disabled." Claus silently reevaluated his thoughts, "I trust you, though. If you think you can do it, I don't doubt you."
"Guys, we need to go," Paula pointed to the door, "It's been almost two minutes, and it's likely that they are already coming here." They went off, with one last wish of luck from Tony and the other boy.
Ness and Paula made their way up to the catwalk. It was narrow and supported by beams attached to the ceiling. It wavered when they shifted their weight back and forth. This may have not been the best tactical choice.
Lucas and Claus stood on the ground facing in opposite directions from each other with their backs to one another. Claus facing the left and Lucas the right. Lucas desperately hoped for his other PSI to return before they showed up.
"Claus, are you sure you're comfortable doing this?" Lucas asked the unnaturally calm redhead.
"No," Claus answered, "But if it means protecting you- then I'll do it. This power will never hurt you again if I have any say in it."
There was a full minute of no one talking before the pigmasks came in. There were about one hundred and fifty of them. One hundred and fifty pigmasks against four kids. The commander wore a white suit and cape, and carried a megaphone in one hand. He turned it on, "Stand down PSI users, and you will not be physically harmed. Deadly force will meet you otherwise."
No answer or movement from the four psychics. Complete silence before the battle. Lucas tried testing out a Shield. Nothing. His PSI was still out for now. He had PK Love though, and he had to rely on it.
"Close your eyes!" Ness's voice quietly hissed at the twins from above. They did so, and saw a bright flash through their eyelids almost a second later. The front two lines of pigmasks were blinded by Ness's PK Flash.
Paula took quick advantage of this by launching a PK fire at the first row of them, and one fire quickly spread to another blind pigmask. After the first row of each side became too scorched to fight, she launched a PK thunder gamma at three of them, and it instantaneously KOed them.
The pigmask soldiers were reorganized now. They could see again, and Ness didn't want to expend too much of his energy on PK Flash. He was the only support for his friends, since Lucas was not able to take that role.
The line of pink advanced. Lucas and Claus stood there, seemingly ready to be engulfed by the troops. If they didn't do something within a few more seconds, they were done for.
Claus launched a PK Love beta towards the side he was covering. The attack alone took out six pigmasks and inflicted serious injury on them. Claus was shocked that he did it as well as that. He used another one, and another one. His energy didn't wear thin at all.
"Lucas! You need to do something!" Paula looked down at the boy standing there, motionless.
"I don't know how to!" Lucas answered, "I'm scared."
"Try to think of the things you love or something. It's called PK Love, and I'm guessing that is for a reason," Paula tried to aid him.
Lucas figured it was worth a shot. He felt the energy growing inside of him as he thought of the things he loved. He loved omelettes, that was a start. He felt a slight twitch of energy. His dog Boney from back at home. That brought the PSI to create a small multicolored fire around him. His friends. The florescent fire grew more and more with each thought of things he loved. He was surrounded by energy. He launched it forwards into the pigmask. The energy took the shape of an oblong rainbow hexagon that knocked back the whole right side of pigmasks.
"Woo!" Paula screamed, "You got it, Lucas!"
Lucas and Claus were doing most of the work at that point. Their PK Love had become effortless. The energy inside of their bodies was increasing exponentially.
The pigmasks had a trick up their sleeve, though. Guns. Big guns. They looked like what someone would see in a sci-fi movie. They shot lasers, as well. A laser cut through a beam on the catwalk where Ness and Paula were standing.
"Ness, can you use a PSI shield around us?" Paula asked him. Ness answered her by throwing up a shield that protected them from attacking energy.
"I can't cover Claus and Lucas, without wearing myself out," Ness told her, "This shield won't last forever either." Lucas and Claus seemed fine, though. PK Love was absorbing most of the lasers aimed towards them anyway.
Down below there were problems that weren't visible from above. "Claus," Lucas panted, "I'm getting tired," he launched another PK Love that seemed as powerful as ever.
"I know," Claus answered breathily, "My PSI is getting stronger, but I can't keep up anyway." His vision was starting to get blurry, and he couldn't distinguish one pigmask's body from another's. A pigmask flanked Claus from his right, where they found his weak side was, and punched him in the jaw. Claus answered this with a PK Love. He felt disoriented, and he didn't know what he was looking at anymore. He launched a PK Love to what appeared to be his front.
A loud shattering came from above. Ness's PSI Shield broke, "Claus!" Ness shouted, "Why'd you break my shield?"
Claus was on his back, and he confusedly launched another PK Love upwards. The catwalk creaked from the impact, and beams snapped. The only part that remained intact was the part where it connected to the top floor exit.
Ness quickly grabbed one of the rails, but Paula's attempt was less fortunate. She screamed as she started to tumble down. "Paula!" Ness quickly grabbed her arm with his other hand. Ness was being pulled between Paula and gravity against the strength of his arm and a metal rail. Gravity was winning.
Lucas was the only one standing, and the pigmasks were coming at him with a rate he couldn't keep up with. He could barely even stand. Another thing that was making him lose his pace was that he didn't have much range with only PK Love alpha. Claus had been occasionally assisting him previously, but now he was fighting both ends by himself.
Paula and Ness were struggling to still fight in their awkward position, dangling at an 80º angle. "Paula," Ness strained to get a breath, "Can you try lifeup alpha or beta on Claus or Lucas? I can't see them, and if I move we're going to fall."
Paula nodded, and looked over the edge down at Claus and Lucas. Claus seemed to be too confused to do anything, so she thought using it on Lucas would be a better option. She used what was left of her strength to use lifeup alpha on Lucas, but his response was not what she expected.
Lucas fell to the ground in instantaneous pain. He stumbled to stand as the power from lifeup filled his body. They all came to a realization then.
They lost.
The pigmasks were gaining on them, not being defended against. Lucas and Claus were lying on the ground, the latter not being able to comprehend anything, and the other unconscious.
"Come down or we will be forced to shoot!" the commander yelled at Ness and Paula.
"How are we supposed to do that?" Ness complained back to him. They brought a net out and set it beneath the broken catwalk. Paula jumped down first, Ness followed. They realized they had accepted arrest, but they could barely do anything now, and half of their group was impaired. They both blacked out then.
Lucas awoke from his involuntary sleep. He was sitting up in a plane seat. They were in a plane for some reason. To his right, across the aisle, Ness and Paula were still out. To his left, Claus was staring out the window of the plane.
"Claus," Lucas whispered, "What are we doing here?"
"The pigmasks beat us, and that's all I remember," Claus said in a monotone voice, "We can't break out because this plane will go down if we try." He returned to silently look out the window.
Lucas, who was too reserved to start another conversation, returned to sitting there and looking around until a pigmask security guard showed up.
The pigmask looked them and turned to the back of the plane, "Sir, prisoners 6725 and 6726 are conscious."
"Very well then," a voice answered. The one who spoke soon appeared at their row, "Hello there, Claus and Lucas."
Claus's head jerked towards him, "How do you know our names?"
"We have our methods," was all he responded with, "Anyway, would you come with me?" he asked of the twins.
They both hesitantly stood up and followed him to the back of the plane. There were two other passengers besides them and Ness and Paula. There was a meeting room in the back of the plane, and it was actually quite large compared to the rest of the plane. How it fit, they didn't understand.
"If you would take a seat," he asked, "My name is Fassad, and I have a few things to talk to you about."
"No, we aren't going to help you take over the world," Claus angrily answered the unasked question.
"Well I believe that isn't an option. See, we need you," Fassad looked down at a paper, "You both have PK Love, and we need that to complete our plan."
"What plan?" Claus asked.
"You see, there is a dragon that we need to obtain the power of to recreate the world, and PK Love is the only thing that can awaken it."
"We both know that myth," Claus sighed, "Do you actually believe it is real?"
"We know it is real," he handed Claus and Lucas documents confirming that it is real. Both of the boys stared at them for a moment.
"Alright, I believe you," Claus agreed, "But there is no way we're going to recreate it the way that you want unless you brainwash us."
"There's a problem with that," Fassad laughed, "We can't brainwash you like the rest unless we want to negate the effects of your sprits on the Dark Dragon. The Dark Dragon has to either take on a good or bad heart, and if the one who pulls the needles doesn't have a conscious heart, the Dark Dragon will idly stand by for eternity."
"Then your plan is flawed," Lucas spoke up.
"Yes it is, and that is why we need to convince you against what you've been told."
"If you think you can convince anyone to join you, you're very optimistic," Claus pointed out. "You have no idea what you've done to everyone and their families."
"As a matter of fact, I know exactly what I have done," Fassad's tone of voice irritated Claus. "Let me guess, you've lost your parents and your home, just like everyone else I talk to."
"Where are they?!" Claus stood up with fury when his parents were mentioned.
"Settle down, immature child," Fassad's laugh was so irritating that it could drive someone to suicide itself, "Your parents might still be alive, and that is all I know. If they are, they're probably working themselves to waste at one of our work camps," Fassad started laughing again.
Lucas was surprised to hear that their parents might still alive, but astonished to hear that they were wasting away at a prison or work camp, and that they might be dead. Claus on the other hand, was extremely angry. If they hadn't been on a plane, Claus thought he would have probably blown Fassad through the wall.
"Blow me through a wall hmm?" Fassad snickered, "You're too weak right now to even use an offense up alpha."
"How did you.." Lucas began to ask in confusion.
"You aren't the only ones in this room with PSI."
"I'll show you who's weak when I'm done with you!" Claus shouted. Security guards then intervened. Lucas and Claus were brought out of the room, and back to their seats in the plane.
Ness and Paula, who were now awake, stared at them worriedly. "What happened?" Ness asked.
"They're trying to make us use PK Love for them," Lucas then realized one of the reasons Claus didn't like PK Love. It was powerful, but too powerful.
"Why would you do that?" Paula asked sarcastically, almost laughing at the pigmask's ridiculousness.
"We wouldn't. He said he is going to convince us to. Somehow," Claus seemed to be pondering the possibilities. He jumped, realizing something terrible, "Ness, Paula."
"What?" they both asked, concerned.
"When we were in there, he said something about brainwashing," Claus said. "I think that is how they're getting people to join them."
"So they're going to brainwash you guys and force you-" Paula was cut off
"No," Lucas noticed what his brother was getting onto. His voice trembled, "They can't." Lucas was at a lost for words, trying to comprehend the reality of losing the only friends he has left.
"They're not going to do it to us, because we need to have a conscious heart to awaken the Dark Dragon," Claus paused, "They're going to do it to you."
"Whoa, slow down, Claus," Ness thought Claus was joking. "I thought that the Dark Dragon thing was a myth. And I don't think they can actually brainwash people, let alone psychic people."
"Ness," Paula was accepting it, "He's right. They have hundreds of people following them already, and a part of that is PSI users."
They all knew what was going to happen from that point. They said no more words until the plane landed. They were brought off of the plane, and the first thing they saw was a military training camp. It was actually an airport that was remodeled into a military base. It was apparent from the vast empty spaces of concrete streets behind them. They were led to an empty room where they were waited for a few minutes for further instruction.
Ness spoke with a lump in throat, "I guess this is going to be goodbye in a few minutes." They all nodded silently.
Paula took a deep breath, and let it out. She looked up from the ground, "If it is, I wouldn't want it to be with any other people. I've only known all of you for a few hours, but you're some of the best friends I can have."
"I'm sorry," Claus interrupted, angry with himself, "This is my fault." They all blinked at Claus, "When we were fighting them last night, I lost control of myself. The energy was too much for me. Each time I used PK Love, it felt more and more powerful. I couldn't stop myself."
"It's okay Claus," Paula put a hand on his shoulder, "I thought we could take them, but I overestimated my own abilities. We all had problems in that battle."
Their minds were all flooding with too many thoughts to talk now. A pigmask came in and requested that Ness and Paula come with him. The last thing that Lucas and Claus saw of them was Ness with his arm around Paula as they walked out of the room and followed the pigmask. Lucas almost burst into tears.
"Lucas, it's okay," Claus tried to assure him.
"No, Claus, it isn't," Lucas sniffed, "They're gone now, and we can't do anything about it."
"No, Lucas," Claus told him, "They're not gone. We'll still be self aware, and we can sneak out of here sometime. We can get help."
"How are we going to do that?" Lucas asked, still crying. "My PSI still isn't back. And my PK Love is.. weak."
'Weak?' Claus thought to himself, "Your PSI will be back tomorrow hopefully. And PK Love isn't weak. You were taking out pigmasks like it was nothing."
"No, what I mean is that it was weaker than yours," Lucas told him. Claus accepted this without thinking deeper.
Fassad entered the room then. Claus stepped forwards angrily. "Calm down, child. I'm just here to bring you to your room where you'll be staying while you're enlisted here."
"We're never going to help you," Claus responded.
"But you're still going to be here, and you're still going into battle either way," Fassad laughed. He was right, though. Even if Lucas and Claus wouldn't help them, they would still be pulled into everything against their will. "Come with me children," he led them to a room where they would be staying. It looked nice, actually. The room was painted a dark gray color, and there was furniture that was in good condition. There was a desk, two beds, and a bathroom. It was like a slightly smaller hotel room. "See?We're not all bad."
"I admit it does look nice," Claus told him, "but we're not falling for it."
Fassad laughed, "You will in time. You can settle down here now, I'll leave you so you can think about your options here." He left them.
They walked into the room. "They did give us a nice place to stay at least," Lucas optimistically said, "It could use a little bit of refreshing though. The color of the walls is a little bland," Lucas rambled on.
"Lucas," Claus said, lying down on a bed staring at the ceiling, "Do you think we'll ever see mom and dad again?"
Lucas wondered where the sudden question came from, then remembered what Fassad had said about them earlier, "I don't know, Claus. Please don't make me think about it. I don't want to think about the possibility that mom and dad might be.." Lucas fell face down on the bed and started sobbing.
"Lucas, no," Claus regretted asking that question, "Let's not think about that. How are we going to get out of here?"
"I don't think we can."
An red light on the wall flashed and an alarm wailed. They heard the sound of hundreds of shoes echoing through the hallway.
I thought about moving that last sentence to the next chapter, so mentally do what you like with it. I just wanted a little tiny bit of suspense to keep people on the edge enough to want more. But I PROMISE that next chapter there will be Mother 1 character(s). Just be patient.
I would like to thank everyone who has reviewed/followed/favorited this story. Every single one of those gives me a ton of motivation to write this story wholeheartedly. So reviews, comments, and criticism are all VERY appreciated.
Don't forget about that twitter thing I mentioned before. I think it will be fun for you social-media-using Mother fans–– I do at least. Also, coming up with creative usernames for fictional characters is not as easy as it sounds.
Once again I apologize for adding too many of my personal notes to you guys at the beginning and end.
