AN: HEY I'M BACK, I GAVE CHUCK FAN FICTION UP FOR LENT SO I COULDN'T POST ANYTHING NEW. SO THIS IS THE FIRST PART OF A LONG CHAPTER WHICH I DECIDED TO SPLIT UP INTO SEVERAL CHAPTERS, MORE THAN LIKELY CHAPTERS 6, 7 AND 8 WILL ALL BE THE SAME DAY IN THE STORY.

AN: SO THIS CHAPTER IS A MAJOR TURNING POINT IN THE WHOLE STORY AND IS REALLY WHEN THINGS START TO GET MOVING IN THE BUTCH SUB-PLOT. MY MAIN FOCUS IN THIS STORY HAS ALWAYS BEEN CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY NEVER DID ENOUGH OF SARAH'S CHILDHOOD SO THAT'S WHAT THIS CHAPTER DOES.

Chapter 6: The Little Girl From Chicago

The Luxury Motel

St. Louis Missouri

7:30 A.M.

Chuck awoke slowly to a gentle thumping feeling on his mid thigh, he couldn't figure out what the heck it was but it felt weird. He lifted his head slightly and noticed Sarah's hips slowly humping his thigh. He had to smirk until he realized that her breathing was starting to increase. He lied back and racked his brain trying to find a way to wake her before she climbed Mount Everest. He was to late when he heard a slight moan and felt her tense before her eyes shot open and she started looking up at him while panting.

"What the heck was that?" she asked in confusion until she felt the wetness between her legs.

"Oh god I actually did that didn't I?" she buried her head in his neck in embarrassment. Chuck just patted her on the back.

"Don't worry Sarah I understand and to be honest it's kinda cute." Sarah sat up quickly and looked down at him.

"No Chuck it's not okay, it's not cute, it's wrong. I just humped your thigh while dreaming of you until I had a mind-blowing orgasm. In no way was that okay, it's embarrassing and I'm honestly freaking out right now." Sarah hopped out of bed and walked away running her hands through her hair.

"Sarah stop, I get it, everybody has naughty dreams every once in a while. Let's just get this out in the open right now, enough ignoring it. I find you attractive and you obviously find me attractive, but we just can't right now. It's bad timing plain and simple. We can't explore those feelings for several reasons and maybe sometime, some other place we can go down that path but right now it can't happen. I know that I'm okay with that for now and if you are then we can just move on from this." Chuck captured Sarah in a hug, which she quickly reciprocated.

"When did you get all the answers?" he chuckled and answered softly.

"I don't I just get these sudden flashes of insight you know?" she giggle until she heard Chuck speak again.

"Sarah?" he sounded uneasy.

"Yeah Chuck?"

"You're dripping down my leg."

"Yeah." Sarah separated her self from him and walked to the bathroom to shower. Chuck grabbed a paper towel from the rack on the small counter and wiped of the offending fluid.

The tan Cadillac sped down the highway as the four passengers readied their weapons. They were all wearing colorful masks and tactical gear. Their guns were modern M4 carbines and they had grenades and such.

"Okay lock and load." They all pulled the masks down over there face as they pulled into the mall parking lot.

"Remember stay tight and move fast." The Cadillac stopped and all four of them got out quickly. They ran through the door and into the food court where they opened fire.

Sarah was driving for the first time in a day and a half and it just felt right, she felt bad, chuck had been doing all of the driving on the trip. She had just suggested that he turn on the radio and find some tunes; he was flipping through the stations when Sarah heard a song that was one of her favorites.

"Stop go back I like that song." He looked at her totally content smile and had to match it with his own. The opening melody to Love Shack began to fill their ears.

"Looking for the loooooove getawaaaaay, headed for the love getawaaaaay." Sarah sang as Chuck laughed.

"I've got me a Chrysler and it seats about twenty so hurry up and bring your jukebox money." He sang in is best 'gay' voice causing Sarah to laugh out loud. They continued to sing along to the song for several minutes until it was finished.

"Oh I love that song so much, reminds me of when I was little. When I was a little girl my mother and I would dance along to that song on a warm summers day, it's one of the few truly happy moments of my life." Chuck didn't know what to say, Sarah had just shared a big thing with him.

"My mother never liked that I conned with dad but I was just so good at it that I did it anyways. That was in my eyes the only way to get my dads approval, you could say that if it wasn't for the CIA I'd be another example of what happens when girls with daddy issues go out on there own." Sarah smiled at herself, one of those smiles that was filled with self-loathing and disgust.

"Honestly Sarah I think that's bullshit." Sarah looked at him in shock from his language. "Sarah I met you before the CIA and lets be honest you were one of the nicest and smartest people I have ever met, you were bright, mature, insightful and overall just a strong person. I highly doubt you'd have become just another statistic, you're too good for that." Chuck looked away in embarrassment from his little speech, when he looked back he saw Sarah with tears in her eyes. She quickly pulled over to the side of the highway and blinked away the tears.

"Sarah, hey I didn't mean to make you cry." She simply stuck up her hand and stopped him.

"Chuck that's the single nicest thing anybody has ever said to me." She leaped at him and gave him a big wet sloppy kiss on the lips. When they separated she wiped her eyes and looked at him with pure adoration I her eyes. "I'm so glad I have you as a friend, you are the one thing I think that I've always missed." She continued to wipe at her eyes until finally she slapped Chuck on the arm.

"Ow Sarah what I do?" she was giggling like a schoolgirl and Chuck was totally confused.

"You jerk, you've got me crying over here like a weepy teenager." Once she was convinced that she was okay she pulled back onto the road.

"So Change of plans, Chuck, we're taking a detour to Chicago. I have something I want to show you there." He simply nodded.

Ellie was currently on a lunch break but she had a different thing to do instead. She walked down the hall of the cancer ward and looked at the numbers on the doors looking for the correct one, when she found it she quietly stuck her head in and entered. There was a little boy maybe 8 years old in the bed and his frail face simply lit up when he saw her.

"Hey Peter how's my little buddy doing today?" he smiled at her brightly.

"Hey Doctor Ellie, can you read me Puss N Boot's?" she sat down on his bed and looked at the tiny old book. He loved the book and asked her to read it every time she came to visit. Ellie nodded yes and took the book from him and began to read. The smile on his face was priceless as she read him the book. To Ellie, Peter was almost like a son to her, she cared about him just as much as his parents did. That's why she visited often; she figured anything to give him a smile was worth it when you compared his life to hers. Ellie got to go home and do stuff, he was a cancer patient so he was pretty much marooned here. When she finished the book she watched him yawn, he was always tired.

"You should rest Peter, I'll comeback tomorrow and we can talk." She gave him a smile as he settled down to nap. Ellie got up and quietly left his room and returned to the ER.

It was official, Illinois was the most boring state ever; it was all just cornfields as far as the eye can see. Chuck heard his stomach growl and looked over at Sarah, she nodded and they began looking for food signs.

"Hey Sarah what about this place called Culvers?" she seemed to nod and took the off ramp. When they arrived at Culvers they were shocked at just how full the place was. It was a small town so it was understandable but still. They walked up to the counter and ordered, Chuck got a Chicken tenders basket saying he was tired of burgers while Sarah ordered a fish and chips basket. Once they paid, the cashier lady handed them a little number sign thing and they went to find a table. Sarah found one that had a strategic view of both exits and was close enough to escape quickly; it was all her spy training but neither of them even noticed. They sat in comfortable silence just taking in the place.

"So Sarah you having fun on this trip?" Sarah gave him a bright smile and nodded yes.

"Absolutely, I'm having a blast on this little adventure, I hope you are too." He smiled and nodded.

"I haven't had this much fun in a very long time, and I've got to say I'm loving this new side of you." She gave him a confused look almost telling him to explain.

"Sarah you're just so free and honest and relaxed. You're so trusting and you have so much faith that I won't let you down. Yesterday you trusted me with your car for a whole day unsupervised and even more then that you trusted me to look out for you yesterday while you were all loopy. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine you doing anything like that." She gave him a heart warmed smile and spotted a worker bringing them their food, it looked absolutely delicious.

"Oh my god this is the best chicken I think I have ever had." Sarah laughed at him until she took a bit of her fish and had to agree with him.

"Wow that's delicious." They ate like it was their last meal and simply sat back totally stuffed for a couple minutes.

"Wow for a fast food joint that was like actual food and not greasy fast food." Sarah nodded in agreement and they both got up to get back on the road.

Casey walked down the stairs and made his way to the conference room where he was greeted by an attractive blonde woman and a tall black man.

"Major Casey." The blonde said in a very professional tone, "I'm agent Nikki Larson." She extended her hand and Casey promptly shook it. Casey turned to the taller man.

"Hello Major it's an honor to work with you I'm FBI Agent Robert West." Casey simply nodded as the monitor came to life, General Beckman looked stressed.

"Agents, it's time to get down to business. First I would assume you've been introduced to Agents Larson and West?" Casey nodded.

"Yes General." Beckman looked at them and decided now was as good a time as ever.

"Okay we have video of Butch captured this morning at the Burbank Mall, he had three men with him when they went in guns blazing and killed 209 people." The video came up on the screen of Butch and his men as they slaughtered the civilians around them. A woman was standing in front of her children protecting them when Butch gunned her down and left the children there. Casey's jaw clinched as he watched the video. It was hard to tell who was who because they all wore masks but Butch was obviously the man in front. Butch stopped and removed his mask staring right at the camera before he shot it out. Beckman stopped the video and removed it from the screen.

"That lady and gentlemen is Bosnian Mercenary Roman 'The Butcher' Konstantinov, born in the Ukraine in 1969 he's the son of Viktor and Diana Konstantinov. The family fled to Bosnia when he was a young boy after his Parents were accused of spying for the west. He was severely injured in a car bombing in 1993 in Sarajevo. The bombing left a large scar on the left side of his face and the pain and poor medical car in the region drove him mildly insane. Shortly after his release from the hospital he joined the now defunct Three Fists crime syndicate. After the Three Fists dissolved he went to work as a mercenary doing mainly wet work for various terrorist organizations. He is suspected of currently working for Fulcrum and is tasked with killing the human Intersect. He more then likely knows who the Intersect is having almost endless resources and intelligence. He's known for his brutal torture tactics and often films the sessions so that he can show them off to the world. He most recently tortured and killed agent Bryce Larkin." A picture of Bryce came up on screen.

"We believe he hasn't told Fulcrum anything but we are almost positive that he knows Agent Walker and the rest of Team Intersect. He knows the Intersects identity and is more then likely searching for him. Butch is very much a loose canon, we can't really predict what he's going to do but we know that when it's all over there are going to be piles of bodies." The three of them stood in silence awaiting Beckman to give an order.

"Agent west please step away for a few minutes, I need to have a conversation with Agent Larson and Major Casey that's above your pay grade." Once he was gone Beckman began talking again.

"Okay Major Casey I want you to meet the newest member of Team Intersect, this is Agent Nikki Larson. Agent Larson will be replacing Agent Walker when she returns." Casey looked at Nikki in shock and suddenly picked up on the resemblance.

"She looks just like Sarah… I mean Agent Walker, why are you doing this?" Beckman gave him a frustrated look.

"Major Casey, Sarah Walker is so hopelessly compromised that she openly admitted that she had fallen in love with Mr. Bartowski. That behavior will not stand on this team. I can't have agents being compromised on this team, it's too important. We're at War Major; we can't give any ground to Fulcrum. Agent Larson is here to get Chuck back in the saddle by any means necessary once Agent Walker and Mr. Bartowski return in three weeks time. Mr. Bartowski will no doubt be feeling sad when Agent Walker leaves but regardless we need him in tip-top shape. Agent Larson fits is preferred woman exactly, she matches his psych profile and will be perfect at getting Chuck back into the swing of things." Nikki had by now dropped the professional demeanor and was now acting like a peppy girl next-door type. Casey looked down at the floor at a loss for words.

"You know General that no matter how many bimbos you throw at him, he'll always love Sarah Walker. In my professional opinion it's a huge mistake to split them up." Beckman didn't say a word but Nikki did.

"That's where you're wrong Major, by the end of the first week he will have completely forgotten about Sarah Walker, by the end of the first month the moron will be hopelessly in love with me which will allow me to string him along and keep him under control." Casey simply growled as Beckman signed off and Nikki walked away.

"Fuck you bitch." Casey muttered under his breath as he returned to the Buymore.

Chuck had little idea where they were as Sarah drove; she knew this route by heart that much he could tell. She looked sort of uneasy like she was anxious, she only had one hand on the wheel and the other ones fingernails were busy being chewed on. She looked at him out of the corner of her eyes and saw the peaceful look on his face and it gave her strength. She was going somewhere she hadn't been in a very long time. Sarah saw what she was looking for and parked in a parking lot; Chuck and Sarah got out and looked up at the worn sign that hung like an archway. Sarah took a deep breath and began walking into the neighborhood; Chuck took her hand and gave it a good squeeze to let her know that he was there for her. She gave him a small smile and led him down a street. At the end of the street there was a cul-de-sac and they stopped in front of one of the houses. The whole neighborhood was worn down and abandoned and it really showed on this house in particular. Sarah went over to the big oak tree in the island of the cul-de-sac and sat down looking at the house. She had a very solemn look on her face.

"Sarah what is this place?" she looked at him and simply smiled.

"This is my last true home," he looked at her then at the house. "My dad used to work at a factory that wasn't far from here and one day he was laid off. In order to get some more cash he robbed a jewelry store and pawned all of it. At the time I was six years old and we all lived here. Turns out he got tied up in some FBI crime sting and the FBI was now monitoring him, one day they tried to bring him in but he got away. Shortly after that we had to leave and go on the run. We left most of our stuff, all of our friends, everything and just left. That was when the Burton Family became criminals. That was the day my childhood ended, after that it was one town after another for twelve years until we settled down in San Diego in 1998. My only regret is not having a normal childhood, I had friends here, I was a normal girl here. That was twenty two years ago, I haven't been a normal girl in twenty two years." Sarah stood up and grabbed his hand, she led him into the now chained up house.

"We had paid for the house in full so this place just sat abandoned once we left." She lifted up one of the windows and crawled inside, Chuck did the same. Chuck looked at the homey rustic place filled with dust and spider webs. It was a true home; it was Sarah's home.

"Come on Chuck." She grabbed his hand and they walked up the old stairs, she led him to a very familiar room

"Is this your room?" he asked in awe, she nodded and looked at all of her things. Stuffed animals, pictures, crayon's, toys, all of it was hers and she look at it all longingly. She sat down on the bed and looked at a teddy bear. It was old and dusty but she didn't care, she picked it up and looked at it with a teary smile on her face. That's when the floodgate opened and the tears flowed freely down her face, Chuck pulled her into a comforting hug as she sobbed loudly on his shoulder. All of the repressed memories and feelings were pouring out of her all at once; she was no longer able to hold back. Sarah couldn't ignore Sam anymore; she couldn't ignore the little girl she once was anymore. Eventually Sarah sat back up and wiped at her eyes trying to regain a semblance of control.

"Sorry, this place is just bringing back a ton of stuff I haven't dealt with in a while." Chuck simply rubbed her back as he replied.

"Don't ever apologize for crying, I'm so thankful that you showed me this, I don't even know where to start about how honored I feel that you'd share such a large part of yourself. Don't ever feel guilty for shedding some long overdue tears, instead I want you to make me a promise." She looked at him in confusion until she saw him take the bear and hold it in his hands.

"Sarah one day when we have kids of our own I promise to give them the childhood neither of us had. I hope that one day we can look back and tell ourselves that we did a good job raising them and know that they had a normal life." She looked into his eyes and knew that it was time.

"I love you, Chuck." She kissed him tenderly on the lips trying to convey all of her love, all of her devotion to him.

"I love you too Sarah Walker, from Chicago." He kissed her again and they both new that in that moment that something changed, neither of them knew when they would actually be together, but at that moment they had each other.

Nikki sat down in a chair in front of a computer and brought up the security cam feed from the time of the attack. She put a trace beacon on the car and watched the computer follow the car. Out of the parking lot, down the highway a ways and into a warehouse near the port of Los Angelis. Nikki smiled as she pulled out her phone and called Casey.

"What do you want Nikki?" said gruffly which caused her to frown slightly: he didn't like her. He was pretty much her idol so it upset her slightly.

"Now Major you don't have to be so gruff, we're gonna be working together for the foreseeable future so you'll have to get along with me eventually. Anyways, I just wanted to inform you that I found Butch's location." He grunted and said he'd be right down. Nikki sat back in her chair proud of herself; she'd just wrapped up this investigation in less than a day. She heard the heavy footfalls of Casey's shoes quickly approach behind her and turned as he spoke.

"Port of Los Angelis, good job Agent Larson, lets go get him. Get Agent West to meet us there from the FBI headquarters." Nikki nodded and got up to prepare.

Chuck And Sarah sat down at their table and looked at each other in adoration, they simply sat in silence and stared into each other's eyes. At least to Sarah it felt like their had been a change in dynamic, she knew she'd never willingly leave Chuck ever. Whether she could figure out a way to tell him about what happens when they get back to LA. She needed to tell him, he deserved to know, at least to prepare himself emotionally. It broke her heart thinking about how sad he'd be once she was gone. She knew they'd send another female agent who would do anything to get him back into the swing of things and she pitied the woman sent to do it. Sarah knew Chuck would never fall for another agent; he might move on but never to another agent.

"Hey Sarah, so are we like a couple now or what because I'm a little confused. From what I understand, you love me and I absolutely love you so what now?" Sarah looked away to think for a moment, if she totally committed to him now it would crush him when they get back to Burbank, but if she rejects him now then she'll lose him forever. She knew Chuck was at the point where another rejection would completely destroy him. Break his heart now or later? Her eyes began to water as she began to know what needed to be done. A tear fell as she spoke.

"I'm so sorry, I'm so so sorry, but no we're not a couple." She saw the look on his face harden and she knew she had lost him, Chuck sat up a little straighter and cleared his throat.

"So that's it then? After all that, it's over before it even began." He nodded and smirked to himself as Sarah shed more tears; sadly Sarah saw the change in him and knew whatever was left of his heart she had just ripped out of his chest.

"Chuck please understand that I love you more than anything else in the world but…" Chuck stopped her right there.

"Stop Sarah I get it, you're an agent and no matter how much of the real girl you show me you'll never shed the training. I'm not even sad, I knew this could happen when I asked, I'm more relieved that you showed me so much of your past." Sarah struggled to hold it together as he sat back in his seat.

"Chuck I'm leaving." The color drained from his skin as he stared blankly at her, Sarah continued. "Beckman reassigned me, I'm gone once we get back to Burbank. I'm so sorry I waited this long to tell you Chuck you deserve better then that. This trip is it for us so no matter how much we love each other this is It." she took his hand in hers and gave it a good squeeze as if to further apologize. His eyes glazed over briefly before they seemed to become clearer.

"You know what Sarah I think I'd rather have you now and find a way then spend my last few weeks with you miserable. We'll find a way Sarah just have a little faith and trust me. It's up to you Sarah it always has been. So lets forget about this now and simply enjoy this time together and like you said so long ago, we are a couple, just a different kind of couple." Chuck picked up his beer and took a sip, the waitress approached with their pizza and Sarah sat quietly unsure of how to proceed. Chuck took her plate and gave her two of the many small slices of veggie no olives.

"Sarah please say something." She took a bite and then spoke.

"I can't understand why you're so good to me after I've rejected you so many times. I just don't understand why you love me anymore. I thought I used to know why but I've broken your heart so many times since then. I have to ask why you're so okay with this." He smiled to her obvious bewilderment.

"Sarah you said you loved me, that's all I've ever wanted to know. I was always so upset because I always thought that it meant that I was a fool and I was just kidding myself thinking that an amazing woman like you would ever actually show interest in me at all. I adore you Sarah I can't live with out you and just knowing you love me is enough, we don't need anything more then that." They ate in comfortable silence as Sarah sorted out the many thoughts in her head and decided whether or not to let Chuck in and take the chance on them. After a long moment of though Sarah decided it was better to think about it latter and enjoy the moment. Chuck was here now, she could miss him later.
