"Hazel. You don't have a boyfriend. You drew him, he's not real. Face it- this 'Frank" is an illusion, just like your mother." Trinity, the popular, blonde haired blue eyed, pale skinned, skirt wearing, spat at Hazel. Trinity had all that, that plus perfectly clear skin, freckles across her nose, perfect straight hair, 20/20 vision, money, all that jazz. She was the ideal highschool girl- she even had a nice girlfriend. For some reason, Trinity had a deep, deep hatred for Hazel and her 'illusions'- also known as the crew of the Argo ||, her best friends. Hazel had been told many times that Trinity was just jealous, but what did Hazel have that Trinity needed to be jealous of? A depressing past? A dead mother? An absent father? Uncontrollable curses? 'Frank, she's jealous of Frank.' She had been told that too many times, only to reply, 'Trinity's not into boys.' Hazel just didn't know.
"I didn't imagine him, Trinity, nor did I my mother." Hazel replied, calmly. "Or Leo, Piper, Jason, Annabeth, Percy, Reyna- you know what, I may have imagined Skippy- or anyone else." She kept walking, down the hallway to her next class. It was almost ninth period, the last period of the day. The last period of the summer. Today was the day that everyone picked her up from school. Actually everyone. At least 20 people were in Piper's dad's RV ready to take a cross country trip over summer break. She got out on June 20th, a lot later than everyone else, so they were all actually available. "Bye."
Hazel entered ninth period, math. The bell rang a minute later and the teacher spoke, silencing Trinity who had been gossiping about Hazel for the past three minutes. Hazel never meant for anyone to find out about her friends. She hung a picture in her locker of them and Trinity sort of forced her to name them all, then claimed she imagined them. It was like showing her a picture of Audrey Hepburn and her claiming the world imagined Audrey. Sort of. Not really.
"Today we're going back to the basics- cross multiplication." The teacher, Ms. Callida, told her class. Ms. Callida was very slender. Her arms, legs, hands were all thin. Her chest and rear end were a different story. She'd had implants because in the beginning of the year she was a B cup, and she's at least a D cup now. She'd had so much plastic surgery she looked like actual plastic. Brown hair, brown eyes, full red lips were almost blinding. her face was so perfect i was imperfect- surgery induced wrinkles, natural shine, big eyes, full lips. She tried to be pretty so hard, she failed. She was still decent though, but in the boy's opinion, she was heaven on earth. Their favorite period was math due the size of her privates and how little she liked bras and coverage. Hazel wasn't exactly sure as to why she was allowed in a children's building in the clothes she wears. Mini skirts, crop tops that conform to her body that scoop down to her lower chest, six inch heels. All in all, she was a wannabe Kim Kardasian, except she was a lot smarter.
Hazel tuned out soon after they reviewed basic fractions since there was nothing left to teach. She almost drifted off to sleep too many times, but resisted, due to her demigod nightmares. Today was supposed to be a happy day, she didn't need mythological figures haunting her happy place. Instead, she drew. She scribbled sketches of her mom on the last page of her notebook that she calls the "Not Education Corner". Her page was almost filled up, she had a few small spots left for quick doodles, which she used. After she used up all of her Not Education Corner, she stared out the window. It was a nice day today, a clear blue sky, green trees, slight breeze. She saw her friends drive up with Percy in the driver's seat, which could not have gone well. After not seeing each other for nine months (which they deemed healthier than being together endlessly), her friends looked so happy to be reunited.
The bell rang. Hazel filed out the door, power walked to her locker (and maybe pushing a few people out the way in the process) and emptied it. She actually just threw everything except her photos in the garbage. Not bothering to even acknowledge Trinity, who was taking pleasure of making fun of her orphan-ness, she tried to keep her speed to a minimum. She patiently walked through the hallways of her highschool, waving good-bye to her friends and teachers and thanking the gods she didn't have to see people like Trinity for another two months. She got stopped by numerous people, half of them teasing her, half of them hugging her.
Daylight. She saw daylight! The door was only a measly 7 feet away when Trinity stopped right in front of her, facing Hazel. "Well, well, Loony Levesque. It's summer break! A good thing. Full of family and friends-" she paused and pull a puppy dog face, "-oh, and illusions." Her and her 'gangies' laughed. Hazel rolled her eyes and tried to push past her, but Trinity stopped her. Hazel gazed longingly at everyone leaving the building, probably doing better things than being harassed by Trinity Rinken and her gangies. "Where are you going?" She laughed. "Back to your orphanage?" It's true- Hazel did live in an orphanage. It was a temporary living arrangement, as most of her friends were legal adults and could take her out whenever. Hazel sighed.
"No, actually. I'm not there anymore." Hazel said. "I'm..." She looked around outside, spotted Piper's RV and pointed. "There." When Trinity turned, Hazel slipped past her and left her school. She sighed in relief.
Hazel started to head toward her friends, who were waving frantically, when Trinity yelled "WHERE ARE YOU GOING, WITCH GIRL?" Witch girl? She'd had enough of that before death. Hazel broke, and she saw her friends getting ready to march out there and beat her up. Hazel gave a 'stop' hand motion, turned around and made sure Trinity Rinken was looking at her. She was, with a smug smile on her face. Frank and Jason were already halfway to her, ignoring her sign, with Piper and Annabeth close behind. Hazel started the girl right in the eye, the raised her arm stretched in front of her face, and stuck a certain finger up in the air, and watching happily as Trinity's face turned to absolute embarrassment.
Hazel turned to face her friends who all had the same exact face on: shock and confusion. Except Piper of course, who looked very proud of her little Hazel. She knew Trinity was still staring right at her, so she ran up to Frank and hugged him and then gave him a quick peck on the cheek. She hugged everyone else, too, then they got on the RV.
"What happened?" Piper asked. Hazel told them her tale of Trinity, and how she thought they were illusions. "You know what," Piper told her. "Annabeth had the exact same girl. Only a different girl, same situation."
"Yeah," Annabeth said. "Her name was..."
