My head was in my hands. So bored. I had nothing to do now, since the twins had stolen the sketchbook. I still had the pencil, but what use was that without paper to write on? So, so bored.
You might have thought that it would have been impossible to get bored when captured by hostile aliens. I assure you, that was not the case for me.
I waited some more for something to happen. For anything to happen. Eventually my exhausted body finally shut down, and I sailed away into uneasy sleep. With some equally as strange dreams. And one or two nightmares passing by.
For the first time in a while, I felt really good.
Soundwave watched the human sleep. Unaware about how strange human culture would label him for doing such.
The human eventually rolled over and sat up, rubbing its optics. It looked up, and to Soundwave's surprise, immediately leaped up and ran over to the side that was the farthest away from him. "It's too early for this! Why, oh why, me?"
Soundwave tilted his helm. The human calmed down a bit. "Sorry." It whispered. "I'm sorry." It shrunk against the bars. Soundwave did not have much experience in the subject of the humans but the heightened heart beat told him everything he wanted to know. The human was rightly terrified, terrified of a larger foe it could not overcome. Of course, it couldn't have overcome Frenzy or Rumble either, but humans were irrational creatures.
More irrational than most. A dumb organic creature would have made more sense. Humans never did.
He was staring me. The huge mech that had captured me was staring at me.
This is like with Swoop, don't you see? I argued back. Yeah, but Swoop wouldn't kill me. My thoughts persisted. You didn't know that at the time. Besides, it will be easier to make him leave once you know what he wants. I nodded, and straightened. I needed to take control. Take control.
...Who was I kidding? I would be lucky if I didn't fall into a panic attack after this was done.
I steeled myself. "What do you want?" I asked, nearly quailing when the mech turned his full attention to me again.
"Query: Why?" "Excuse me?" I can't help but ask.
A familiar metal bird flew forward from somewhere behind the mech, dropping something at my feet. When I looked down, I saw it was my...sketchbook?
"Query: Why?" The mech repeated. "Purpose: Unknown."
I made a couple of false starts before finally answering, tripping over my words. "Um, I d-draw for f-fun. Bec-cause I'm g-good at it." The mech doesn't answer but I got the feeling that he was displeased with my answer. Finally, he spoke. "Further explanation: Required."
When the human clearly blinked in confusion, Soundwave became frustrated. But not in a way anyone other than the cassettes would recognize.
Laserbeak, sensing such through their link, flutters closer to the human. It flinched, but calmed once it realized that Laserbeak had not come to harm it. Instead, Laserbeak flipped through the pages, human watching all the while, until she came to a certain picture. A picture of the entire group of Dinobots. She tapped it once.
Instantly, the human's confusion cleared away, though its nervousness did not. "Oh. Um. I d-drew that to...remember." Laserbeak chirped in what was a clear question. The human elaborated, somehow losing the little stops of speech it had in explanation. "To remember, just in case I don't go back. Like the picture of my...well, the other picture."
Soundwave could guessed what the human referred to, seeing how there were pictures in the book that looked similar to pictures of the human's family found online. But there had to be more. Laserbeak cocked her head, asking the question Soundwave could not. "I know I haven't known them for very long, but I trust Swoop. And Swoop trusts his brothers, so I guess I trust them too."
A explanation that could only come from a human, but it did not explain everything. A couple more page flips and the human explained the picture that had bothered him the most (the cartoony picture of various Decepticons had not been too much of a bother. It was only a human, after all). The picture of Rumble and Frenzy.
"Oh." The human's eyes shifted. "That one. I drew that one because I wanted to thank Rumble and Frenzy for getting me the sketchbook. I thought they might like it." It finished all in one breath, looking up anxiously.
The mech said nothing. It was frightening, since I couldn't tell what he was thinking about that. I ventured one last question. "What's your name?" He was silent and I quickly said, "Oh, you don't have to if you don't want to tell me anything." More silence. Then...
"Designation: Soundwave." The mech stated in the same flat tone he had used for everything else. He moved slightly, allowing my clearest glimpse of him. He was blue, with a larger chest than any other mech I had ever seen. The red visor I had barely seen gleamed with an unknown emotion. If it was an emotion.
The metal bird twittered slightly. From what the twins had told me, I guessed this must be Laserbeak. Red and white, with black, almost like Starscream's colors. It (she?) nudged the book towards me.
I had spent enough time with the Dinobots to know what she wanted. I sat down, taking out the pencil in my back pocket...
The Dinobots snoozed, draped all over each other on the battlefield. It had taken a couple of hours, but they had finally tired themselves out rampaging. After destroying the power plant, a nearby forest, and almost the human city a mile over, but they had stopped.
Not that it helped the Autobots with public relations at all. The first thing the news did was accuse the Autobots of unleashing monsters, never mind that no one had cared about those monsters when they were hunting Decepticons.
It was so bad that many Autobots were wondering why those in command hadn't taken the Dinobots down, like when they had attacked Optimus Prime. This in command were discussing the Dinobots right at this moment, in fact...
"No! I am NOT off-lining the Dinobots!" Ratchet yelled. "It is the best option," Prowl pointed out. "If we do not, there is a very likely possibility they will rage again and perhaps that time kill innocent humans."
Ratchet grumbled, but there wasn't much he could say. It was true, after all. Wheeljack was the next to suggest something. "I could invent something!" Prowl's frown slightly deepened, the only change of emotion seen. Everyone else shifted, not wanting to meet Wheeljack in the optics. Ratchet at last said, "It would probably blow up and off-line the Dinobots anyway, Wheeljack."
Wheeljack's lights blinked slowly as he agreed, drooping a little. It seemed that off-lining the Dinobots was the only option.
A voice suddenly spoke up from the corner. "My fellow gentlemechs, I believe I 'ave an idea."
