:Jazz.:
Jazz nearly spit out his energon. He had expected Mirage to comm when he had gotten the Dinobots off the Nemesis, but he hadn't expected it this soon.
:Yeah, Mirage?: :We have arrived.: :I figured.: The black and white mech stood. :Where are you? Comm your coordinates.: :Right away, sir.:
"Here we are...land. Or the coast of Oregon."
The Dinobots rushed out so fast, I felt my body leave an imprint in the air. Gasping for breath, I curled up in Grimlock's fist. Said Dinobot looked down at me, concern showing in his blue visor. "Kendra ok?" "Never better," I said, once I got my breath back. "Now, where are those Autobots?"
Mirage drove up. As one can probably tell by my use of 'drove', he was in his alt mode. A sports car of some sort. "I have sent them our coordinates. They should be here soon enough." "Hmm. That's good. What should we do now?" The question was mostly rhetorical but the Dinobots answered anyway.
Sludge did at least. "I Spy!" "Do you know what that is?" Sludge shuffled around awkwardly and looked away. "...No." I scowled. "You've been deprived of knowing what I Spy is? Shame on the Autobots. Now, let me explain how to do it..."
"Me spy something yellow."
"Sludge's head?" Slag attempted to guess. Swoop grinned. "Nope! Try again." "Slag's head?" Snarl this time. "Nope!" Slag was getting frustrated, I could tell. But I also couldn't blame him because we had repeated this dance over and over again, only for Swoop to say "Nope!" every time, that darn grin on his face.
"The sun?" A new voice entered our game. Swoop's smile, if there was possible, got even bigger. "Yep!" I turned around to look at the new Autobot. Black and white...he seemed familiar somehow. "Do I know you?" I asked politely.
The Autobot smiled. "My name's Jazz." "Do you have anything to do with Mirage?" "You cou'd say tha'." I eyed him. "So...we're going to the Ark now." "Yep," Jazz answered, even though it wasn't really a question. I went back to the Dinobots. "Come on, guys, we're going back to the Ark!" They groaned, but I think they were all secretly happy that we didn't have to sit around playing I Spy any more. I know I was.
"I'll go with Swoop on the way back." Swoop brightened while his brothers glowered at him, but they didn't argue. Jazz tilted his head. "Why are you going with 'em? I can give you a ride." With that, Jazz turned into a black and white sports car, much like what Mirage did earlier.
I shook my head. "Thanks, but no thanks. I'll go with Swoop." Swoop bent over, and taking me in his servo, put me into his hold. I sat there, quietly listening to Swoop transform into his alt-mode around me and felt the take-off.
I smiled. This is fun.
Jazz drove along the road, following both the Dinobots in their alt-modes in front of him and the one Dinobot above him in the sky. He did it thinking about the human girl. Kendra Ashby.
She was a strange human, that was for sure. Jazz himself knew for a fact that the Witwhickys' first reaction to the Dinobots hadn't been to fall asleep on them. Or even later ask for rides.
Completely unique reaction. As well as a completely unique caring from the Dinobots themselves back. Intelligent enough to identify enemy motives and make plans against said enemy...
Something new was on the horizon, Jazz knew. He just wasn't sure exactly what.
It didn't take long before Swoop landed. The hold opened and I clambered out, to see the Ark.
And a bunch of Autobots standing in front of it. But I wasn't scared now (much). Not when I had the Dinobots by my side. I knew exactly what lengths they would go to keep me safe. One only had to ask Megatron to know that.
Besides, the Dinobots were way bigger than most of the Autobots. Except one red and blue one coming towards us. I mouthed his name. "Optimus Prime."
Said Autobot nodded. "Correct, Kendra Ashby." He took a step closer, but the Dinobots stepped in front of me, blocking me from his view. Grimlock spoke for all of the Dinobots when he said, "No touch Kendra. Kendra ours." This statement was punctuated with a loud snarl from the group.
Not many things more terrifying than an impeding Dinobot attack then, and I'm pretty sure that hasn't changed since. Optimus backed away, slowly waving his hands to calm the Dinobots. "Don't worry, Grimlock. Nothing will happen toMiss Ashby."
Grimlock grunted. "Good." And with that, all threat went out of the Dinobots and they all turned to me. Looking a lot like puppies starving for affection. I couldn't help it. "Aw, you guys are adorable."
Someone in the back ranks of the Autobots snorted. Snarl and Slag were upon them in a heartbeat, dragging out a red mech. Snarling, they shoved their faces in his. "Hey, hey, you guys aren't cute at all. Just horrible. And monstrous." The mech pleaded. I could see Autobots reaching for their weapons. Best to fix this before it got too out of hand. I sighed. "Let him go."
They did, Slag giving the red mech one final shove before both turned to me. Whoa, apparently I have a shock team of Dinobots at my beck and call, was my first thought. My second thought? I'm not sure that's a good thing.
What do I do now? That question was answered swiftly enough. "Kendra!" I looked over to see...my family. "Mom! Dad!" I ran over and hugged them. They hugged me back, just as tightly. I grabbed Alec, hanging out on the edges, and dragged him in too. In the middle, where we all laughed and cried to see each other again.
Once we're done hugging, I pulled back, gesturing to the Dinobots, who looked sad and a bit left out. "Guys, I want you to meet my friends that Dinobots." The word 'friends' surprised them and they looked at me in shock. But not for long, since Alec had run up and started peppering them with questions about Pokemon. My parents hung back but I knew they would eventually get it.
As for me? I smiled.
The entire situation played out nicely. Mom and Dad agreed to give me visiting privileges right alongside the Autobots. I had the feeling they did that since the Dinobots would make a fuss otherwise, but I didn't care for the reasons how or why at the moment.
Besides, I needed a guard against the Decepticons. Why not the Dinobots, who any Decepticon would hesitate to cross?
I laugh and play now, though I know that tomorrow, when it comes, will have troubles with Autobots and my parent alike, because they don't get it. Not really. That the Dinobots and I, we are friends. Family.
And I won't change it for the world.
Kendra, now finished typing, sits back and looks at the computer screen. Nervously she bites her lip, not sure what to do next.
She had been working on this for months, but now sat at an impasse on what she would do next. She looks outside, to see the window. A grey and yellow blur flies past it to tackle something red. Kendra smiles.
Dinobots. They are a part of her life now, ever since her kidnapping by the Decepticons several months ago. She's seen the Cons around since, of course, but they haven't been stupid enough to touch her. Mostly. But Grimlock had taught a few lessons with Slag and Snarl.
Now, her life is peaceful, as peaceful as it can be with the Dinobots around.
No matter what happens next, Kendra will stand by the Dinobots. She's proud of it. "Hey Kendra!" Swoop, of course. "Come out and play!" Time to answer him.
So she pushes away from the computer, leaving her piece of work up in a Word Document, turning to open a nearby door to outside. On the screen, the last words blink on the screen. And I won't change it for the world.
The End.
