Sorry for such a long hiatus! I had a bad case of writer's block and then school started and I've been updating other stories and it's been bananas! Anyway, I hope you guys like this chapter!
SPOV
After a very long trip, we stepped off of the yacht and onto the Isle. It was a sunny day and I was ready to get inside.
"Sydney, you've been applying sunscreen like crazy." Emmett laughed as I applied another coat.
"You laugh, but I can already feel myself burning." I replied, pulling my hat down.
"Are you not burning up in long sleeves?" Seth asked.
"It's linen, it's a breathable fabric." I explained. "Dad, unlock the doors!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming," Dad smiled.
After unlocking the doors we walked in and put our things away. I walked back out onto the beach where everyone had already begun playing in the water and sand. I went and laid out on the hammock under shade and pulled out a magazine. Seth came over and sat in the sand beside me.
"You wanna come play volleyball with me and the others?" He asked.
"Seth, you know I'm not athletic. And even if I was, there would be no way I could keep up with them."
"Yeah, I figured that was a stretch." He laughed. " We could go swimming."
" Maybe after the sun goes down. The water reflects sunlight so that's double the chance of me getting sunburned."
"You really don't like the sun, do you?"
"I've been raised in towns that are always overcast or rainy." I said. "The sun and I don't get along."
"I heard that there are caves around here."
"Seth, I really appreciate what you're trying to do here, but I'm really tired from the trip and I kinda just want to chill with my Cosmo, okay?"
"Yeah, it's fine, I get it." He said, obviously wounded from the let down. He got up and went over to where Jake and Nessie were playing frisbee. I couldn't bear to look at the hurt I had caused him so I went back inside the house.
"You weren't out very long," Mom commented as I closed the door.
"Yeah, I might wait to go back out when the sun goes down a little bit."
"Are you sure it's just the sun?" She asked, hinting at mine and Seth's previous exchange.
"You heard, huh?"
"I hear everything," She smirked. "Come here, tell me what's going on."
"He's just been being weird around me lately." I explained. "I don't want everyone tip toeing around me like I'm broken and fragile."
"Well, you can't really blame him. I'm sure that he, like the rest of us, just wants to make sure that you're okay. That you're not just bottling everything away."
"I'm not." I said. "I'm really fine."
"But, you'd tell me or someone else if you weren't, right?"
"Yes."
"Promise?"
"I promise, Mom there's nothing to worry about." I sighed. "I just want to forget that the whole ordeal ever happened."
"I know, I'm sorry." She shook her head. "It's just that you've been through so much and-"
"I know." I told her. "I know that it may be a little bit before everything is totally normal again. But, I just want everyone to start moving forward."
We stayed inside and watched a movie for the duration of the afternoon. We were curled up on the couch when suddenly I wasn't watching the movie anymore. I was in a house. It looked like it was newly built, but from a different time. There was screaming coming from another room. The woman's voice sounded familiar, but at the same time I had never heard it before. I was taken to the bedroom they were in. The man was standing over the woman who was cowering in the corner. A beer bottle had been thrown against the wall, possibly multiple bottles. Glass shards were on the ground. The large man reach down and forcefully brought the woman up by her hair before throwing her onto the bed. That was when I saw her clearly. The woman was my mother. The man must have been her ex husband, Charles. I didn't know much about him aside from the fact that he wasn't a good husband.
Before the worst of it started, I was taken away from the scene before me and I was back in the living room of the beach house. All of muscles were tensed and my eyes felt dry. I took a gasp of air and blinked a few times.
"Sydney, are you alright?" Dad asked as he knelt in front of me. Mom still had her arms wrapped around me.
"Was I asleep?" I asked suddenly. "I didn't feel like I was asleep."
"Your eyes were open the whole time." Mom answered. "Your entire body just froze all of a sudden."
"What happened?" Dad asked, checking my pulse and looking at my pupils.
"It was like I was in one of my dreams, but I wasn't dreaming." I explained. I looked over to my mother. "It was you and... and... uh, Charles. I don't know when it was exactly or what his reasons were but, God I never want to hear you scream like that again."
I shuddered hard at the memory and my mother held me closer.
"It seems like your talent is getting stronger." Dad said. "It's starting to take shape."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
" Well, this is the first time that you've seen something while you were awake." Mom started. "And, if I may theorize on my own here, it seems like your visions are influenced by your surroundings."
"That makes sense," Dad agreed. "The scene you saw was similar to the... events that recently occurred in your life. They must have relevance to what's happening to you currently."
"Perhaps it's even triggered by touch?" Mom guessed. "You were touching me when your vision occurred and that's who's past you saw."
"We'll probably see more patterns over time as your talent continues to grow." Dad stated. "Hopefully with that they'll become more controllable over time."
I hoped so. This "talent" had been nothing but a curse most of my life. The more control I had over it, the better.
