Last chapter. Here we go...
2 years later...

Miz's POV
It's a big night. And I'm hung on the fact that I'm going to ask the most terrifying question ever uttered out of my mouth. These seven days has rushed past me in such a blur to get to this moment. It's strange because that never happens on SummerSlam week. After Tuesday's SmackDown taping, Paige and I caught a flight straight to Orlando for one of our days off before the biggest pay-per-view of the summer. It lands perfectly on her 24th birthday. She was curious as to why I chose Orlando—her former home. Former because about a year ago, we decided to move in together to Los Angeles, in my house. Such a big leap for us both, but I just knew it had to work because being away from her left the void empty.
Back to the night, I told her I had a birthday surprise waiting, but not where.
"Babe, can I get a hint at least?" Paige asks sitting in the passenger seat, with a blindfold over her eyes. Seems like it's tradition on this day.
"Nope, you're just gonna have to wait. Take a nap or something, it's a long-ish drive."
"Long drive? Then we're traveling somewhere far..."
"Yeah, there. That's the only hint you get."
I'm currently on route to Daytona Beach. The same beach I gave her the gold promise ring, promising that she'll be mine whenever she was ready. A couple months ago, she revealed that she had read the letter I wrote in Japan. Ever since then, I've been planning a way to switch the rings on our fingers...
So how have we been in the past two years, you may ask? Progressing—healing, strengthening our relationship. Almost like love rehab, especially mine. Ups and downs happen like any other couple have to go through. We bicker like kids more than we fight like adults, so if we do end up fighting, it's dead serious. But that hasn't happened more than twice. One "fight" was over which family we would celebrate with for Christmas (she won, my parents understood, it was fine afterwards). The other dealt with our travel schedules and miscommunication with the shows we'd be at. I don't think that one really counts because we were mad that we weren't together for a whole week on the road which, if you think about it, is sweet (the make-up sex was great by the way).
The divorce was finalized near my birthday, which became an ironic present. But the door, the chapter—whatever you want to compare Maryse to—is closed. The day when we had to sign the papers, I told her something that I haven't revealed to anyone. I told her I'll never love someone like I loved her... The solid truth, because I really can't. That's something Maryse and I will have to cherish for the rest of our lives. Honestly, the way I'm "loving" Paige is different. It's not better, by all means, it's just...different. And I love the change. Do Maryse and I still talk? From time to time, but we're not so concerned on how our lives are now. She actually found another guy, met someone in her hometown of Montreal so I'm happy for her.
My love "status" stands healthy with Paige. Actually even better which I didn't think was possible from the first months we met. Through the years, it's been weird having the focus flash on us. Nikki Bella and John Cena were open to the world, Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan, plus the other Total Divas with wrestler men. You can throw AJ Lee and CM Punk in the mix too. But now, it's all about Paige and The Miz. Fitting, we are the most must-see couple in the WWE. They truly have stiff competition against us.
But aside from the limelight of public appearances and events, what the WWE Universe won't ever know are the little moments. The times when we're able to be free with each other, sitting at home, watching movies or studying matches on the WWE Network (still only $9.99 a month), or just lying down in silence while we're both on our phones—those private times mean the world to me. Those moments are my favorite. Ever. They're scarce these days, so I make sure to treasure every second of it just being Paige and myself, even if we don't say a word. Her presence alone is enough.
"Alright babe," I park the car and it goes silent, "don't take off the blindfold just yet. I'll go around and help you out." Shutting the door, there's a giddiness that picks up my feet. From a distance, I spot the lighted torches on the sand. Perfect. Summer, Emma, and Dolph set them up like I wanted—in a giant heart.
I grab Paige's hand and let her step out of the vehicle. "It smells like the beach. Why are we at the beach?"
"I will seriously push you into the ocean if you ask another question, babe. You'll see, just wait!" To my left, I spot a car parked yards away. The only one other than ours, and I just know the three blonde musketeers are in it, waiting.
My grip on her palm stays firm and we make our way through the cool sand. I told her to wear something comfortable for our little adventure so her sneakers provide enough stability in the dips. My heartbeat increases in the movements, step by step... Approaching the heart shaped ring of fire, I can't help but smile. Guiding her to the center of it with me, my other hand automatically reaches in a pocket for the small velvet case.
I take a gulp, "Okay... I'm gonna take off the blindfold." Untying the back knot, my fingers are shaking. Once the black fabric drops, I place myself in front of her. "Well, what do ya think?"
The corner of her mouth lifts once she gets a good look around us. "Oh my... Miz... I don't know what to say!" Her hands go up to cover her mouth, but unannounced to her, this isn't the only surprise.
I wrap my arms around her back in the midst of her appreciation, "Happy Birthday, Saraya... but I've got another present."
"Babe, really? You didn't have to!"
Taking one last deep breathe, I clench the ring case in my left hand before lifting it out of the pocket, "No, but this...this I need to..." It doesn't take long for her to realize what I'm about to do. Those hands reach up to her mouth again. My own are trembling to the wrist. Along with them are my knees buckling at the joints. I'm watching Paige, hoping that will calm me down, but the way she's near frozen at the sight only make my nerves pace.
Finally, I place my left knee in the sand and stabilize myself. Looking up and meeting the expression on her face, I can tell she's anticipating the question. The air stands still in every second I wait, every ticking second that passes, the weight of the world is truly on my back.
"Saraya..." I've always been good with my words—promos and all—but this is a whole 'nother level. "From the moment I met you, I knew you were someone special. Things happened that brought us together, though not always pleasant, the past is behind us. I fell for you so fast and I've always wondered how, never questioned why. Your hold on me is indescribable. Every day, waking up to your beautiful face, keeps me going. Hearing your soothing voice, keeps me smiling. Looking into your soft eyes, keeps me breathing..."
My voice is running on empty as a lump in my throat pops up. These words are easy and difficult to say at the same time. I open the case to expose the ring inside, like a pearl within an oyster. Her face lights up as the reflection of the diamond hits against her brown eyes. "I want to love you forever... Saraya-Jade Bevis, will you marry me?" Asking this question the second time around feels separate from the first, it's completely brand new. The case feels heavy in my hands as a delay for an answer extends. Searching in those watery eyes of hers, I already know.
"Y-Yes! Yes Mike, I will!" She reaches for my face and lands her lips on mine. In this exchange, water drops onto my cheeks and her tears are warm on my skin. Grabbing her left hand, I slide the new diamond ring on top of the gold band.
Still on one knee, I try to stand up but Paige crashes on top of me. With our bodies in the sand, the waterworks are brushed off with laughter as she goes in for more kisses. My girl.
There's cheering and clapping from above. The blonde musketeers are standing at the point of the heart. I couldn't imagine this proposal any other way. Under the blue moonlight, surrounded by orange firelight, the contrast created a picture worth a thousand words. Three of which are enough to sum it up: I love you.
The future holds promise for the two of us. When I came back to the WWE, I never expected to do a 180 degree turn so far to the left that my life would never be the same again. How can you ever predict something like that? How can you ever stop something like that from happening? You don't. I didn't. I'm glad I followed my heart. Where I am now is the only place I want to be.
"Alright guys, stand right there, I'll take a picture!" Summer says with her phone in hand. Dolph and Emma pull out theirs as well. In the center of the fire heart, I wrap an arm around Paige's waist. Her fingers tilt my jaw toward her face and I catch the look in her eyes.
"I love you so much," I say.
"I love you too."
This is the girl of my dreams—the one that loves me no matter how stupid, how much of a smart ass, and how much of a lovesick puppy I can get. Everything we've been through has proven to build us stronger than ever. She's there to love me, and that's all I really need. I'm in love with the idea of loving Paige for the rest of my life... Forever.
