Sam and Callen were annoyed that someone had got one, or more than one in some case, over on them, especially with them being the senior partners that were meant to be more skilled and observant.
They were specifically annoyed that they thought the person was Deeks. They were getting used to the LAPD detective but they still saw themselves as above and better than Deeks, they had been doing it longer and they were trained in more skills.
Deeks was the person they teased, not the other way around and it really got to them that he may have got one up on them.
They decided to unite together against Deeks to try and get him back.
They had some juvenile pranks to play on him but they wanted to get him back and so that night they set about collecting up the things they needed. Waiting until midnight, sat at Sam's house, they pretended to be watching a film to get his wife to go to bed. after what seemed like hours for them but in reality was more like 45 minutes, she went up to bed and they prepared to go, as if they were going on a mission.
Kensi wanted to get one over on Deeks. As partners they were always competing as well as working together and Kensi really wanted to get that one up one Deeks. While he respected her and her abilities really, he was always teasing and ridiculing her and she wanted to get revenge.
What she hadn't banked upon was Callen and Sam's need for vengeance.
She had another big prank to pull and so she arrived at Ops relatively early. She hadn't been going for long, however, when she was interrupted. She would have been ok as she heard them coming when they opened the door, but the door they came through gave a direct view straight to the corridor Kensi was in.
In the dark Callen and Sam saw someone in the corridor they were in and reacted instantly, pulling their guns and calling "Stop NCIS!"
The person froze suddenly and stood as straight as possible before they heard a voice.
"Uh guys, it's me. Could you point those someplace else?" Kensi called, uncomfortable being the one with guns pointed at her by her friends.
"Kensi?!" Callen and Sam asked incredulously before she flipped on the lights proving it really was her.
"What are you doing here?" Callen asked.
"I wanted to get revenge on Deeks for the donut prank he played on me," Kensi confessed, seemingly genuine, but playing on their embarrassment. "I watched the marines on my father's base play pranks and they taught me a few things so I decided to get him back. What are you doing here?" Kensi stuck as close to the truth as possible before diverting questioning, kicking herself for not being more careful.
Callen and Sam seemed to buy it and nodded in agreement. "We wanted to get Deeks back for pranking us as well. Maybe we could join forces? It looks like you might need some help," Sam said, assessing the heavy boxes Kensi was trying to carry.
Kensi had planned for the weight and had things to assist her so didn't need help but it would be more fun this way and they may get suspicious if she said no. She would just have to come up with a few more explanations and excuses.
They walked into their bullpen and Sam and Callen's jaws dropped.
"Ok so maybe I was a bit ambitious," Kensi admitted, knowing she could have got it done.
"Just a little," Callen said with a laugh. "Just what were you planning on doing?"
"I was trying to move Deeks' desk into the bathroom and then replace his desk with Christmas paper wrapped cardboard. That prank someone played on Nate gave me the inspiration and one of my friends played a prank with the desk in the bathroom before but there's a lot of heavy lifting. What were you planning to do?"
Thinking about what they had planned now, everything seemed simple and rubbish now.
"Um ... well .. we have a whoopee cushion, duct tape, post it notes and elastic bands. We were going to put the bands around his desk phone so it is stuck in the cradle, put the whoopee cushion under the cushion on his chair, duct tape his stationary to the desk or the ceiling and cover his stuff in post it notes," Sam replied.
"Cool. Well if you can help me get this desk to the toilet then we could go from there."
The guys agreed and soon enough, between the three of the they had Deeks desk set up exactly how it was before, Kensi had taken pictures and then used them as a reference knowing Deeks would know exactly where everything had been, except now it was in the men's bathroom instead.
All the electronics and cables had been added, trailing the power cables through the hallways to the bathroom which, luckily, wasn't too far from Deeks' original desk position.
Whilst Kensi's planned pranks were bigger and more elaborate, Sam and Callen's had been more last minute and they had less experience pranking than Kensi did so the were much simpler to assemble. For that reason they tackle them next to get them out of the way.
Deeks' phone was secured in its cradle by the elastic bands,a whoopee cushion was placed under the cushion on his chair, some of the duct tape was used to stick bits of stationary to the desk with some more being used to tape posters of twilight, which had been, for some odd reason i.e.. Kensi put them there, in a very well stocked supply cupboard, to the ceiling above the new position of the desk and in his eye line, when sat down, on the walls for maximum annoyance, Deeks hated twilight with a passion.
The post it notes were saved, with Kensi having an ingenious idea for them and the guys agreeing wholeheartedly.
The next task took a lot longer. They had to assemble, from Kensi's pictures once again, a carbon copy of Deeks' desk with all his stationary but from cardboard. It had to look exactly the same for this to work though as any small difference could tip Deeks off.
Luckily both Kensi and Callen were good at art, with Sam being ok as well, and so it didn't take them as long as it could have.
Once the cardboard replicas had been made, they were carefully and meticulously wrapped with Christmas wrapping paper from the large supply that Kensi had brought along. She had chosen christmas paper in particular as Christmas was only a few months away and she knew that Deeks absolutely loved Christmas. Hopefully he would be too focused on the paper to notice the differences in the desks, small as they may be.
In the end it only took them a couple of hours to get all the work done which was much faster than Kensi would have managed on her own, so in the end she was grateful for the help, although she was still worried that the boys might figure it out.
They parted ways at their cars, Kensi returning to her home and Sam and Callen both going back to Sam's house, where Callen was staying the night at Sam's insistence. They all were looking forward to the next morning, knowing revenge on Deeks was imminent.
Once again unbeta'd so sorry for all the mistakes. Special thanks to BlueTigress and ncistony97 for reviewing this story. This story is not intended to make the agents look incompetent, it just them having fun. If you like it please review.
