A/N Hey I know it's been a while but I have been really thinking on what to add in the story and such. But this is what I came up with so...yah! :)
Tris
The week in Candor wasn't as bad as I thought, it was annoying with everyone being honest, people coming up to me and either saying they hate me or they are in love with me even if they didn't know me... Very interesting. I'm on my way to Amity but first I get to stop at home. It's been one week since I saw Tobias last and I do miss him, he is the first person I am going to see and the last, I don't want to see anyone else for the two hours I have there.
I stand in the doorway leaning out watching as all the factions pass by, through the city. Then I see it. I feel the excitement rising in me as I near the compound, I see a tall figure standing near the tracks and I know it's Tobias. A smile spreads across my face as I get closer, in about 30 seconds I can jump, and I will finally get to see him after a week. Two hours does not seem long enough to me I want the whole day, but I know I can't have it, not just because we only have two hours but because it's night and in two hours it will be 3:30 which is when the next train comes, the one that will take me away again.
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
One.
And I jump, making a firm landing not falling.
"Tris?" I hear his voice in the dark, I stand there for a second. This can't be real, after a whole week it doesn't seem like this is real, I have dream't about this.
I run over to him and throw my arms around his neck. "Tobias." I whisper in his ear.
"God this doesn't seem real." He says hugging me back, holding me tight and close to him.
"But it is."
"And I am thankful for that." His arms around me is something I have missed so much. His smell something I will never forget, but will always miss when he is not there. The way he makes me feel safe, I always crave for that feeling when he is not around.
"I missed you-" I say, my voice unsteady, I can feel my eyes beginning to water. Tobias pulls away a little and looks into my eyes.
"Are you okay?" He asks, his voice full of worry.
"Yes. I'm fine, I just really did miss you."
"I missed you too. Do you want to go inside?"
"Yeah. Just. I don't want to see anyone else."
"We can make that happen."
We walk inside hand in hand, and sneak to our room, everyone seems to be up and about, I forgot no one sleeps in Dauntless. We avoid everyone who comes anywhere near us and finally reach our room. "We made it, no one stopping us." I say.
"Tris!" I hear a voice behind me.
"I spoke to soon." I say to Tobias, he smiles a little and opens the door.
"I'll talk to Christina." He says, I smile and walk in the room. Within a minute Tobias comes back in. "She's fine. Just told her that you wanted to have some alone time...she was surprisingly okay with it."
"That's nice of her."
"Okay. Tell me all about it."
"Well Candor is...very honest." I say with a slight laugh.
"No kidding."
"It was interesting, so many people being honest all the time, I don't know how they can all do it. Just all the time honesty. It's hard and they know when you're lying so I have to always be honest."
"Did you pick up any traits?"
"I can tell when someone is lying."
"Okay. Tris I didn't miss you at all."
"That is a lie. You didn't smile at all and you started tapping your fingers." I noticed those things about Tobias before, when he want's to joke around with me or try to hide something, he always does that.
"That was an easy one."
"Maybe you will have to think of something better next time then."
"Okay. I'll be thinking of something."
"Good." I scoot closer to him on the couch and lay my head in his shoulder. "Did you really miss me?"
"Yes. Oh I can even prove it." He says and gets up, he takes off his shirt and I see a small simple tattoo.
"Is that a six?"
"Yup." I get up and trace the six with my finger.
"You seriously got a tattoo."
"Yeah. You're looking right at it."
"I know, I just. I don't know. That's just really sweet, and Tobias Eaton doesn't do sweet things."
"Of course he does. All the time."
"Mmhmm." I tease.
"I'll prove it." He says and kiss my lips softly. "I do. But only for you."
"Another sweet thing in less than an hour, maybe I should leave more often."
"No I don't think you should."
"I'll see what I can do." I say softly and kiss him lightly, his lips feel so right against mine, and I didn't know I could miss so many little things about him. The way he makes me feel, his touch, his scent, his voice, they way he talks, and walks, everything.
"I wish you could stay here and not leave again."
"Me too." He wraps me in his strong embrace, I hear his heart as my head rest against his chest. He kisses the top of my head, I look up and smile at him, he kisses my forehead, his hand moves my hair behind my ear as he look into my eyes. His soft, dark, beautiful oceans of watery blue eyes looking into my plain grey/blue. He releases me but grabs my hand and walks me to our bed. We lay down together, his arms wrapped around me.
"I do love you Tris."
"And I love you."
"We only have about an hour or less left."
"I know."
"You sure you don't want to see anyone else?"
"Yeah I'm sure. Maybe next time."
"Okay."
I must have fallen asleep because I wake to Tobias looking at me and playing with my hair. "Did I fall sleep?"
"Yes."
"Oh I'm sorry, I shouldn't have fallen sleep on you like that."
"It's fine, I just like knowing you're here with me." I look over at the clock we have 10 minutes to get to the tracks. 10 minutes before I have to leave him again.
"Why didn't you wake me up earlier?"
"You looked so peaceful I didn't want to wake you."
"Okay. We better get going."
"Okay. Here take a sweater, its chilly." Tobias says and hands my one of his hoodies.
"Thanks." I say and slip it on. I open the door and start to walk to the train, Tobias following close behind me.
When we step outside the cold air hits me hard, it wasn't this cold earlier.
One thing I love about Tobias is, we don't have to say anything and we are comfortable, with silence, we welcome it.
Five minutes. "Tobias. I don't want to leave again." I say.
"I don't want you to, but this is a job and you have to finish it. Only three more weeks right."
"Right. Three really long weeks."
"Don't worry, you will be back before you know it. Even if it seems like forever."
"You're right."
"I'm always right. Come here." He says and embraces me in a hug. We have 3 minutes I can hear the train in the distance.
"I can hear the train." I say.
"Let's not think about that."
"Two minutes."
"Tris."
"I'm sorry I can't help it." Which is true, I don't want to leave but I have to.
"Tris, please." Tobias says.
"Okay." I say. One minute. The train starts to go by us, I get on the last car, so I still have some time.
"I don't want you to leave but I know you have to, you will be back soon okay?"
"Okay. Okay." I stand on my toes and press my lips to his. "See you in a week." I say, as I speak our lips touch ever so lightly.
"See you next week." He says and presses his lips to mine one last time. "I love you." I look into his eyes one last time.
"I love you too. See ya soon." I say, then run and jump on to the last car at is buzzes by.
I hadn't noticed before but my cheeks are wet with tears I didn't know I had. People say it's harder the first time you leave someone behind and it get easier. They're wrong. It so much harder now then it was before, because I know how long it is and I know how much I actually miss him, miss home.
I wake up still on the train just as the sun is peaking up over the city, I can see Amity in the distance, perfect timing. I walk to the door of the car and get ready to jump.
I count backwards from 10 and jump.
"Beatrice?" Some one says, I look up and see Robert, back in Abnegation he and his sister Susan were my neighbors.
"Robert? Hey."
"Didn't know they were sending you. They just said a Dauntless member."
"You two know each other?" The women next to him says.
"Yeah. We used to be neighbors." I say. Robert comes over and gives me a hug, I'm startled at first but then I realize that this is what Amity do, so I just hug him back.
"Oh, okay. Well Beatrice was it?"
"Uh, just Tris."
"Okay, Tris. I'm Willow White and this is Ray Jaxson." She says gesturing to the man next to her. "This is your new identity, you may already be familiar with how this works from your stay at the last faction."
"Yeah, new name, new background, new life for a week."
"Yup." I open the folder and read about myself. Name: Sunny Mars. How Amity is that. Age: 24, that is a joke I do not look 24, what ever though. And my background is, I don't socialize much because I was sick and stuck at Erudite for a while then had to be isolated and now I am able to be out. Perfect. Also I was a transfer from Candor, how perfect!
"Robert will show you to your room, and tell you about Amity."
"Alright." I say, and the two leave.
"Come this way." Robert says with a smile. "It's really nice to see you again Sunny." He says as we enter the compound. It's almost 5:30 AM and people are already up and working.
"Yeah, you too. How is it here?"
"Oh it's amazing! I love it, you will too. Well maybe I mean...from where you came from originally. Not Abnegation."
"Dauntless."
"Yeah. There."
"Don't worry I'll try not to cause trouble." Robert laughs and opens a door for me.
"Your new room." He says.
"Oh, okay. Thanks."
"Wow. You still say thanks. Dauntless hasn't completely changed you."
"Don't need to be so honest, not Candor."
"Oh yes. But you were." He says with a wink. Oh right, I'm from Candor.
"Right." I say with a light laugh. "So you gonna come in and teach me all about Amity?"
"Sure!" He says and walk in the room, I close the door and make myself comfortable on the bed, my back against the wall.
We sit on my bed and talk about memories and he fills me in on all the stuff in Amity. It should be easy to fit in here, maybe, I just have to not get mad. Okay this might be a little hard.
A few hours after Robert and I finished talking he takes me for a tour around Amity, introducing me to some of his friends. The thing about Amity people is that they are always happy even if there is no reason to be happy.
"Sunny! So nice to meet you! Would you like to sit with us for lunch?" A guy about my age says, Robert said his name was Chad.
"Uh, Sure." I say.
"Lets go!" Chad says and grabs my arm and walks fast-ly to the dinning hall.
My first day in Amity was interesting, and same with my second. I did a lot of 'spying' and of course from what I have seen Amity is hiding nothing at all. I still have about 4 days left considering it's nearing the end of my 3rd day. The whole day was spent eating. Working, working, working. Taking a break, working, eating. Working. Talking with people, working, eating and now I get to either be with people, or go and have some peace in my room. Which I choose my room.
Right now I'm just laying on my bed looking at the ceiling. The only thing that keeps coming to my mind is Tobias. I did notice that when I am busy working I don't think about home as much, but at night when I'm alone I do.
I get up and go to the closet of clothes they gave me and grab the hoodie Tobias had given me before I left, I inhale the scent of home, of Tobias, and I just wish I was there with him.
I fall asleep with his hoodie in my hand pulling it close and tight to my chest. I dream of going home and being with him finally, and all of my friends. Next visit I will be sure to see them, because I will admit, I do miss them.
When I wake the sun has not yet risen, but I make my way to get some food, knowing that at least half of the Amity compound is up.
"Sunny! I didn't have to wake you today, you're getting used to the morning schedule." Robert says, and embraces me in a morning hug, which I have gotten used to, and sick of. Morning afternoon, evening, and night hugs. When I get out of here I wont want a hug from anyone.
"Yeah. I guess so." I say and force a smile. I sit at our table and eat the fruit bowel in front of me.
"Can you guess where we get to work today!?" The girl in front of my says. Her name is Lilly.
"Where?" I say.
"The orchard! We get to climb the trees! Hope you aren't' afraid of heights!" This is something I'm good at, and will make me feel somewhat more Dauntless.
"Definitely not afraid of heights." I say with a smile.
"Great! Hurry up and finish and we can get started." She says, I eat the last few pieces of fruit and the two pieces of bacon.
"Done." I say and get up. Lilly grabs my hand and starts to run out the door.
We reach the orchard and she grabs to baskets. "Here." She says handing me a basket I take it and follow her to an apple tree. "Okay, so you just climb and pick the apples and put them in the basket. That simple."
"Alright."
"If you can get really high do it!"
"Okay." I say. Of course I'm going to climb as high as can. I prop the basket on two branches and start to climb, I get my foot on the lowest branch and pull myself up. Once I get on the first branch climbing comes so easily, I pull myself up one branch at a time, I make it to the highest part of the tree, I can see so much, mostly just the Amity faction but the view is breath-taking. I stand there for a few minutes just enjoying the view and being high up in the tree, it makes me feel at home.
I pick some apples from the very top and drop them into the basket then as I climb down I pick more. "Is your basket full yet?" Lilly asks.
"I can fit a few more." I say and jump down from the tree, I grab the basket and put it on the ground, I pick some more apple and put them in the basket. "Done."
"Oh perfect, me too. We can get a small basket and pick some berries!"
"Sure." I say. I kind of just want to get this week over with as fast as possible, if working makes time fly then that is what I'm going to do.
Lilly and I sit on the ground and pick raspberries. "So do you like have a boyfriend?" Lilly asks. Why does she want to know?
"Uh, why do you ask?"
"Well I know someone who's interested in you."
"Oh. Uh. Yeah, I actually do. "
"Oh my gosh! Really! What's his name."
"Uh. Tobias." I'm sure it safe to say his name with her here, she wont know him.
"Don't know anyone by that name. Well a long time about there was a kid in Abnegation whose father beat him and he transferred to Dauntless."
"Don't believe everything you read." Is all I say.
"How long have you guys been together?"
"Uh, almost 3 years."
"Wow! That is a really long time!"
"Yeah I guess so."
"So are you guys planning on getting married soon?"
"I don't know. We haven't talked about it much."
"Oh I see."
"Yeah. What about you?"
"Me? No, no. I mean I like someone, but he obviously only likes me as a friend."
"Why do you say that?"
"He told me he likes some one."
"Maybe you should tell him how you feel."
"No! Oh I couldn't."
"Do I know the guy?" She looks at me then back at the bush of berries.
"Yeah."
"Chad?"
"No. Robert." Well this is weird. Well sort of, it's like a friend saying she like my brother.
"Oh! Do you know the girl he likes?"
"Yeah."
"Do I have to guess?"
"No. Uh. He like you. He said he's liked you since you guys were in school." I always knew Robert liked me but not like that, I thought it was more of friends.
"Oh. Uh. If you want I can talk to him."
"I don't see what it would do."
"Maybe if he knew I'm with someone then he will move on. On to you."
"I don't know. You can try."
"I'm going to go talk to him now."
"Uh. Okay." I get up and start to walk away. "Wait what!" I keep walking.
When I find Robert he smiles and hugs me. "Hey. We need to talk." I say to him.
"Yeah sure." I say. I sit down on the ground next to him. "So some one told me you may like me."
"Always have."
"No like, not as friends. As something more."
"Yeah. Ever since I can remember."
"But we live in to totally different faction, there is no way we could ever be together. And, I'm with someone, and we are serious. Almost 3 years now."
"I know. I see. I will always have feelings for you, you know that right."
"Yes. But you need to find someone else. I can name a girl I think would be perfect."
"Who?"
"Lilly."
"She doesn't like me. Well she does but as a friend only."
"Says who."
"I don't know, it just always seemed that way. I do like her I've liked her for a while now. But I guess now that you're here it kind of changed.
"I'm leaving soon. You should talk to her. Ask her out or whatever."
"And if she says no?"
"I doubt she will. Now. I am going to go get some lunch."
"Alright. I will be right in."
"Okay." I say. I get up and walk away with a smile. If actually feels good to have set them up. They would be so cute together.
When I get sit down at our usual table Lilly is already there, same with Chad, Hail, and Sam, but no Robert.
"Hey, where's Robert." I ask.
"Johanna needed to talk to him."
"Oh. Okay."
After we finish eating Lilly and I head back outside to do more work, as we start to one of the orchards we see him, he waves to us and runs over. Giving both of us a hug. "Hi girls!"
"What'd Johanna need?" I ask.
"She was telling me my new job, I am no longer working in harvesting. I will be working beside her on the council team." He says with a smile.
"That is great!" Lilly says and throws her arms around him.
"I know I'm so excited!"
"Wow. That's great! I'm proud of you Robert." I say.
"Thank you Sunny. I better get going see you at dinner!" He says and run off god knows where. Lilly and I start to walk to the orchard again.
"That's really good for Robert, I knew he has been wanting that job."
"Yeah, it is really good."
Five days. On my sixth today. Tomorrow is my last day here and then I can go home, for two hours and move on to the next faction. I can't wait to get back home. My next faction is Erudite, which I am not looking forward to, I mean I want to see Caleb, but I can't so there is really no point in wanting to go. I don't know how they are going to keep him away from me, or me from him.
Whatever way they have planned I'm sure it will work, no one has even questioned me being here. When I get pissed I go to my room before anyone knows I'm pissed. That has happened at least once a day.
I sit at the table eating lunch not listening to what is going on around me, because all I care about is seeing Tobias tomorrow night. "Sunny. Hey, you in there." Robert says waving his hand in my face.
"Yeah. I'm here. Just thinking."
"Daydreaming." Lilly says with a smile.
"No. Thinking."
"Doubt it. Daydreaming of your boyfriend?"
"Sure."
"I knew it!" Lilly squeals.
"I didn't know you had a boyfriend?" Chad says.
"Uh, yeah. I do."
"Damn, didn't see that one coming. Good for you."
"What do you mean by that?"
"I have no clue."
"Okay, then." I look down at my food and start to play with it, I think I have lost my appetite, not really sure why. I look around and really notice how happy everyone is, laughing, smiling, talking in their groups. It's nice seeing people so carefree but I really miss the loud roar of the Dauntless. The parties that never seem to end, the yelling at anytime of the day or night. People running and tackling each other for fun, hell I even miss the pierced faces and weird hair.
"You okay, Sunny?" Robert asks me.
"Yeah. I'm fine."
"You want to talk?" I look up at him, his face full of concern. "Alone?"
"Sure." Maybe talking will make me miss it all less.
"Come on." He says. We walk away from the table and into the halls, we don't talk until we reach his room. "What's going on?"
"I want to go home."
"Oh. I see. You miss it."
"Not just it. The people. My Friends. My Family."
"Family? Did Caleb somehow get in there?"
"No. My Boyfriend."
"He's your family?"
"Yeah. He's all I have."
"I see. Faction before blood."
"Yeah."
"What do you miss the most?"
"Him. My Friends. The whole compound, how rough everyone is, how they party and the parties never end. I miss going down in the Chasm, or walking along the pit and window shop. Hell I even miss shopping with Christina."
"How long till you can see them again?"
"I go home for two hours tomorrow night."
"And then you go?"
"To another Faction. For another week."
"Oh, I see. How many more factions do you have left?"
"Two."
"Two weeks. It's not that long. I mean it's a long time, but it will go by fast."
"Yeah. That's was Four said."
"Four? He your boyfriend?"
"Yeah."
"I see. What are you going to do when you get there?"
"See everyone I care about, my friend, and just god, everyone. I want those two hours to be fun, and Dauntless!"
"You are very enthusiastic about Dauntless."
"It's my home. My faction. They are my family."
"I know what you mean. That's how I feel about it here."
"You know Robert I never thought you would pick Amity. Maybe Candor or Abnegation, but not really Amity."
"I never thought you'd be Dauntless. Never in a million years, Always thought you would be Amity or Abnegation."
"But I was never selfless or kind."
"You were very selfless and kind. All the time. I never saw you being mean, never."
"I'd beg to differ. More than half the time I was an ass. I didn't follow rules much, Caleb always had to tell me to do selfless things and to be kind."
"Hm. I was surprised when Caleb choose Erudite."
"Yeah. Same."
"Do you want to head out there now?"
"Sure. Let's go weed some gardens."
"You know you love it."
"Not really." I say with a smile and leave his room.
"You'll be home soon enough." He says closing his door and following me outside.
"Tomorrow night." I say. I look around and see Lilly, Chad, Hail, and Sam all weeding a garden.
"come-on." Robert says and drags me to the garden.
I sit in the dirt next to Chad and Hail. "Make sure you don't pull the carrots out." Hail says.
"Got it." I say with a smile. Weeding the gardens is what I would call. The worst job in Amity. You just sit there digging your hand into the dirt pulling out weeds and you do this for hours.
I wake early. By early I mean, I got maybe a couple hours of sleep, I look over at the clock. 3:00 AM. I know no one is up right now, if they are they're crazy, I'm not crazy, I'm just excited. This is my last day here, it was fun, but not fun enough to make me not miss home because I miss home.
I grab some clothes and head to the shower, I take off my night-shirt and get in the shower, I use as much hot water as I can get taking my sweet time washing up.
When I'm done, I turn off the water ring out my hair and grab my towel. I dry my face and my hair, I wrap the towel around my chest and brush my teeth. I may have to spend the day here but it's one day, if I lasted a week I can sure as hell do this last a day. I wrap my hair in a towel and get dressed, then I take the towel out of my hair and dry my hair with it, then throw it in a basket.
I grab a brush and step out of the bathroom and bush my hair, while sitting on my bed. Just thinking about being home in 22 hours makes me so giddy. When I'm finished brushing my hair I leave my room and walk around outside, no one is out here and it's nice.
The cold breeze blows on my bare skin, the grass is damp beneath my bare feet. You can still see the stars and, the sun is barely peeking up, so it's still pretty dark. I stop walking when I hear someone talking, I turn around and see Johanna talking with a man, I can't make out who though, so I get closer.
I hide behind a tree and listen to them. "I'll see if Marcus can have some Abnegation help us. He owes me a favor anyway." Johanna says. Help with what?
"Well with the people getting exhausted quickly and us running out of Peace serum we have to get the Abnegation to help us." The man says.
"Yes. I see. Okay, I will see if Marcus can help us. Marcus Eaton is a powerful man he can help get people to help us with the work. I mean after all we are feeding the factions."
"Yes. Okay, I will send someone to get Marcus for you, first thing."
"Okay. Thank you Matt." Johanna says and enters a building. Well that was nothing interesting Amity needs help with the farms so they are asking Abnegation. The only thing I don't like is Marcus. Just hearing his name makes me mad.
I walk back inside and notice people are beginning to get up, so I go and get some breakfast. An orange some oats and milk. I eat it all and follow Robert and Chad outside to do some work.
"Sunny. How was your first week here in Amity?" Robert asks.
"Its great. So much different but great." I lie. Really it was fine, but I have missed home every single day.
"Okay so we have done almost everything on the grounds. Do you want to do something fun?" He says.
"Sure."
"Are we going to bring the food to the factions!?" Lilly says running over to us.
"Yes!" Robert says.
"Oh yay! I love that job!"
"Group takes turns bring the food to the factions. This week it's our turn, you're in luck!" Chad says and helps me into a truck filled with food.
"I'm driving!" Robert says and starts the truck.
We begin to drive, not sure how long this is going to take. Or how it works. I have never seen any Amity bringing food to the factions.
Within 20 minutes or so we pull to a stop near the tracks. "Okay so how this works is we wait for the train, it stops and we put the food on and then make a stop at each faction at the kitchen back door." Chad says.
"Oh. Okay, I didn't think the train ever stopped." I say.
"Yeah, it stops once a week just for us."
"Alright."
I hear the train coming, it rolls past us and within seconds I hear it come to a screeching stop. We load up the train and hop on, we sit there for 10 more minutes than the train starts to go. "We only have 30 minutes to load the whole train before it starts going again. The first stop is Erudite." Robert says.
We ride the train for another half hour until we reach Erudite, and the train stops. "We got 30 minutes to unload all this, let's get going." Hail says, Chard runs over to a door and knock four times and someone answers.
"Hello! Nice to see you guys again. Here let me help you all." A women dressed in blue says, and starts to help unload and put everything in the store-room. We finish in less than 30 minutes so we sit down and the Erudite women brings us a snack. We thank her for the food and for her help, and within minutes the train is going again.
"Next. Candor." We do the same as we did for Candor, and within that half hour of unloading we're done, I am so thankful that no one in Candor recognized me.
"We're headed to Abnegation next, Robert likes going there because his sister is there and he can see her." Chad says.
"Oh. That must be nice." I say.
"Yeah. And my old neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Prior help too." Robert says. I know why he said that. It was to either warn me or just to inform me.
"Cool." I say as the train comes to a stop.
"Right on time as usual!" A women says. My mother.
"Yes. Mrs. Prior. We would never be late." Robert says with a smile, he greets my mother with a hug, as do the others. My mothers eyes fall on me, she break into a smile and rushes over to me. "Uh, Mrs. Prior this is Sunny, she is new to our group."
"So nice to meet you Sunny." My mother says and embraces me in a tight hug. I know Abnegation is my last stop on my weeks of faction spying so it's nice to see her here while I can. I hug her back. "How are you Tris?" She whispers in my ear.
"I'm okay. How about you and dad?"
"We're just fine." She says and releases me. "Let's all get to work, and then we can have lunch!"
"The Abnegation always help us a lot and with the extra 15 minutes we have they give us lunch. They are always so nice." A girl named Meggy says to me.
"Oh, that's nice of them." I say. I work beside my mother grabbing boxes and passing them to her. "Where's dad." I ask her quietly.
"He's down at the back of the line. Sit with us at lunch." She says with a smile.
"Okay." I say, and grab the box Meggy hands me. Fifteen minutes later we are all headed inside, I follow my mother and Susan, and Robert.
When my father see's me sitting next to my mom he smiles and heads over and sits on the other side of me. "Andrew. This is Sunny, she is new to this Amity group."
"Pleasure to meet you Sunny." He says and give me a side hug. "How are you Sunny?"
"I'm okay, and you?"
"Oh, I'm great. But I want to hear more about you." My father says. "Let's go outside and eat." My father suggest, so mom and I get up and follow him outside, no one questions this. "Really, how are you Tris?" He asks.
"I'm fine. I miss home...Dauntless." I say.
"When do you go back?" Mom asks.
"I go back later tonight for a couple of hours but then I'm going to Erudite." I don't know why but talking to my parents feels so natural, like nothing has changed between us, even if everything has changed.
"I see. Are you and Tobias okay?" My mother asks and puts her arm around my shoulder.
"We're...great. Really. I just, I really miss him. And my friends. But mostly him."
"You'll be okay." She says.
"I know. But it's actually harder than you think."
"I don't doubt it. "
"So how are you guys?" I ask.
"We are great. Just working. Miss you and Caleb."
"We see more of you then we do of Caleb. Haven't actually seen him since...well it's been a while." Dad says.
"I see. I don't think I will be seeing him, if I do he wont see me."
"We understand that. We can't wait to have you here when you come. It will be nice seeing you everyday for a week."
"Yeah, I agree." I say. The train blows its whistle and the Amity start to head out and get on. "Nice meet you both." I say and give them a hug.
It was really nice seeing them again, before I have to go to Erudite and before I lost my mind. I just really needed to see a family member, someone I have lived with for many years, yes Robert is at Amity but he's not 'home' enough, I barely hung out with him.
"Okay we are going to Dauntless and we have to hurry there because no one helps us out there. I'm pretty sure they don't know how they get food because we drop it off and no one know." Chad says.
I feel giddy inside just knowing that I am going to be at home for a half hour, and then in a few hours I will be back there, as myself with Tobias and my friends.
We get there an hour later. By now I am sure it's almost 3 or 4, this day has gone by so fast I can't wait to get back here in Dauntless later.
"Okay, let's get this started!" Robert says and we form a line and hand the boxes and bags down as fast as we can.
"I don't think I would ever go to Dauntless, even if I had a chance to switch factions now." Lilly says.
I smile a little. "I would. In a heartbeat." I say more of to myself.
"Why? They are so reckless."
"Because that's the beauty in it. They don't care, they are who they are. They are brave, and strong, and I think I would feel safe here, because all of them are trained to keep people safe you know." I say passing a box down but really just admiring the beautiful building I call home.
We finished faster than I thought we got five minutes so we sit on the train, everyone talks around me as I stare at the compound and wonder what Tobias and the others are doing right now. If he is thinking of me, because god knows I'm thinking of him.
This is my last hour here and all I am doing is laying in bed waiting for the signal. Which is just Robert knocking on my door, and there it is, he's early.
"come-on." He says when I open the door.
"I thought I still had an hour."
"You know you want to leave, come on let's go."
"Yeah, I really do. Not like I didn't like it here I just want to go home."
"I know." he says, we go out the gate and head for the train tracks.
"You don't have to wait here with me."
"I know." He says. We stand there awkwardly for a while. "Hey Tris."
"Yeah?" I say, and look at him.
"It was really nice seeing you again."
"Yeah, you too Robert."
"You and your boyfriend come visit anytime. When you guys need some peace or something, we are always here."
"Okay. Thank you."
"You're welcome. I took your advice and asked Lilly out."
"Oh really! That's great how'd it go?"
"It went great, we have a date to watch the sunset in the orchard together tomorrow."
"That's wonderful, told you she wouldn't say no."
"Yeah. Thanks."
The train comes zipping by not stopping, not slowing, I feel my stomach turn with excitement. "Goodbye Robert, thank you for everything." I say and kiss his cheek.
"Goodbye Tris." He says, and I run after the train and jump on pulling myself into the car. I stand on the end and lean my body out feeling the wide whip my hair in my face, it's a nice feeling, a free feeling.
I sit down at the end of the car and dangle my feet out, I can't wait to get home. Even if it is for two hours, it will be the best two hours I will have in a while.
