Chapter 20: Targets

Honestly, I didn't realize that my story would be successful (haha)

To add something, this chappie is about Targets! Then we will see Dani and Roy again! Yay!

Coast City

September 7, 2010, 6:00 EDT

"Danielle! Help!" A woman screams, making my ears numb. I am in a room and it is bright like my energy balls. I could feel a strong energy filling up the room.

"Kill them all!" I heard another one. And this time it is strong and you could feel the power in his voice. I try to find the source but the place seems to extend.

The place changes and I am in a room. Two black men holding out a weird red gun, aiming to a women, a boy and a man. They wear the same clothes as mine.

The black man laughs, his laugh is like nails in the chalkboard. The woman looked at me with her white eyes staring, mouthed RUN.

Suddenly, a sharp noise interrupts and its making my ears bleed. I covered it and yelled, "Ahh!"

I woke up, lots and lots of sweat forming in my forehead. My hands were red, covered with blood and my ears are definitely bleeding.

"What happened?" Hal is standing in front of me, two ocean blue towels in his hand. He pressed the other one on my left ear.

I took the other one and pressed it to my right ear. Pretty much I can barely hear a thing. "Don't know. I have a nightmare, Hal."

"Another nightmare? Didn't you have the other one in bialya?" I nod.

Thankfully, the bleeding stopped and Hal wipe the last drop of blood from both of my ears. "Can't believe this. We should talk John about this, probably the guardians maybe they can help."

I nod, agreeing to him and we went to the living room where Uncle John is staring at the TV. Hal takes a seat while I stood by his side.

"This is Cat Grant, reporting from Taipei, where the historic peace summit between South Rhelesia and North Rhelesia has completely broken down.-"

I sighed and take a seat on the sofa. "Why are we watching this nonsense? It's politics. You know how I hate politics."

"Shh!" Hal and Uncle John said and making a shh sign.

I rolled my eyes and continue to watch the boring news. "As a last resort, Prime Minister Tseng of South Rhelesia and North Rhelesia's General Singh Mann Li have agreed to bring in an independent arbitrator."

The tv shows the two generals and the press taking every info from them. Cat Grant continues, "But who is it? Speculation has run from the Secretary General of the United Nations to Superman."

She flipped her notebook, "But the man of steel seems unlikely, as I'm told the arbitrator is due to arrive by car, not cape at any moment."

"And who is it? It's Bruce Wayne!" I yelled. But suddenly Hal's hand shuts my mouth.

I shove his hand. "I'm gonna leave and I have to go to the Cave to put my other stuff there."

Hal gives me a look. "I'll be back afterwards."

"And probably tell John about your dreams." Hal suggested.

I sighed. "Fine. Uncle John after I'm done with my business then you can help me with my nightmares."

Uncle just nods and seems that he can't take his eyes off from the TV screen. Then the screen shows a car arrived with police as its security. This guy is very precious to this event.

"The arbitrator has arrived." The car parked where a lot of paparazzi are waiting for the person to arrive.

"Who's that?" I pointed on the left side where a familiar face of a mask of a cat holding a rocket launcher, aiming at the arbitrator.

As she aim, an arrow launched and she launched the rocket. People were running and the representatives of North and South Rhelesia were protected by their security.

The woman, wearing the cat mask, attacks the guards. She quickly made her way to the car but a guy wearing a suit with a quiver launches a net and the rocket exploded on the newspaper stand.

The guy caught her and the guards aim their guns on her head. Lots and lots of newspaper bits were flying around the place.

Cat Grant continues to report. "We have just witnessed an assassination attempt live. Thankfully, no one seems to have been hurt including our mystery arbitrator."

A woman comes out from the driver's seat and she opened the main door. It revealed to be Lex Luthor.

"What the heck?!" I yelled and Hal's mouth and mine were definitely open.

Everyone seemed to be in the same condition as us and they take away the assassin.

"I am so gonna leave." I say as I head to my room.

Mount Justice

September 7, 2010, 6:41 EDT

Recognized Polaris B-27

The cave is empty as I went inside. "Danielle." Kaldur greeted me as I make my way in.

"Hey, Kaldur. Where's Megan and Superboy?" I asked. Thankfully I wore my civilian clothes.

We head our way to where Martian Manhunter, Red Tornado, Megan and Superboy where. They were talking to them and Kaldur approaches first.

"We are sorry to interrupt. But I wished you both good luck." Kaldur says.

"Yeah, first day is gonna be tough." I say.

"The first day of scholastic season carries great cultural resonance. We want to wish you both well." Martian Manhunter says.

"Guess it's not a kryptonian thing." Superboy says worrily.

"You guys are gonna do great. I once have my greatest first days in school. Believe me it's gonna be fun." I gave them both thumbs up.

"You may wish to change before you depart." Kaldur suggested.

"Ah, I spent hours choosing this outfit." She changes into the same clothes when were not in a mission.

"It's the same clo—" Kaldur gives me a glare. "I mean, love it."

She looks at us. "Can M'gann M'orzz pass as an Earth girl now? She asks.

"Well—" Kaldur says.

"Just kidding!" She changes her green skin into a skin tone type and her eyes were hazel. Definitely a human.

"So what's your new name?" Megan asks.

"My what?" Superboy asks.

Martian Manhunter changes into an African guy with a black suit. "I choose the name John Jones for myself and John Smith for Red Tornado. You could be a John too."

"Pass." He says and crosses his arms.

Megan puts her hands on his arms and I forgot that those two almost kissed back in Bialya. Oh that's why. "Conner's always been my favourite name."

He raised his shoulders, possibly meaning yes. "A last name will also be required." Kaldur says.

"Perhaps Kent?" Martian Manhunter suggested.

"Oh, in memory of Dr Fate, the late Kent Nelson." Megan says.

Martian Manhunter changes back to his original form. "Of course."

"Ok. Sure. I guess it would be an honor or something." Connor says.

It is an honor but the last name is so familiar. I heard Hal and Uncle talked about it about some guy named Clark? Oh wait, it is Clark Kent. Maybe he's a close friend of John Jones? But last time I remember, he is a reporter. But why would Martian Manhunter suggested the last name of someone that he didn't know? But Conner Kent seem to fit.

"Well, Connor Kent, time to change your shirt. You don't want to reveal your identity." Megan touches the S sign on his shirt.

"She's right. In our school we did have uniforms but it looks like you guys don't have one." I say, crossing my arms.

Connor does something clearly not what I have expecting. He takes off his shirt and completely showing his bare chest. Megan blushes.

"Will this work?" He asks.

"Works for me." She says dreamily. I try not to laugh hard.

Connor flips his shirt and puts it on. "Shouldn't I be Connor Nelson?"

They walked away and Martian Manhunter sighed, "They grow up so fast."

Kaldur and I nod and we head to the zeta tube. Martian Manhunter turns to us, "If anything goes wrong with Megan and Connor, do not hesitate to call me."

We nod, "Yes, Martian Manhunter."

He and Red Tornado went to the zeta tube and they were gone.

"I have to go to my room for a minute, Kaldur to put my other stuff there." He nods and opens the holographic computer. I take my black bag from the sofa and head to my room. My room is second on the left in the hallway, next to Robin's.

After I'm done with my stuff, I find Kaldur staring at some video. I approached him and the video revealed the attempt assassination of Lex Luthor.

"Can't believe that bald headed freak is the arbitrator. Why are you watching that?" I asked.

"The assassin is Cheshire from the League of Shadows and Red Arrow had asked my help in looking for her. Minutes before the attempt."

"Ohhh. That's cool. So he is on his own now."

"Yes." Then we heard a beep. "Aqualad."

"It's me." The voice is Red Arrow's. He sounds like he needs help. "I may possibly be in over my head."

Kaldur and I glanced at each other.

Media are gathered around to take pictures while the two hot headed representatives arguing.

"The unification is unthinkable! Our peoples have no longer in common." The other one said. I glanced around and pretend to be a media and takes down notes. Kaldur is on the side, waiting. While Red Arrow is standing behind Lex Luthor, pretending to be a body guard.

I could feel someone eyes were staring at me and I look at Red Arrow. He moves his head to another side quickly avoiding my glance.

"Gentlemen, this is mere rhetoric. Despite your differences, you still share an appreciation for many things, such as the exquisite art for Rhelesian tea ceremony." Luthor explained.

A chinese girl moved forward, with the tea, ready to serve. Kaldur turned back and stopped her. "That is far enough, Cheshire."

People gasped and her expression changes. Red prepares an arrow and she smirks. She presses something and pushes it to us.

"Now!" Kaldur yelled and I quickly went in front of him and my hands start to glow. I create a big white energy shield protecting everyone.

Kaldur helped a bit with the shield of water and Red shoots an arrow, causing an explosion.

The explosion is strong and powerful. The force starts to toss me aside and I hold on to my power. My hands were glowing and my whole body in fact. The glass windows also exploded.

The explosion stops. The shield disappears and I huffed. I could feel my whole body collapses and Red flipped to our side.

I start to lose balance and I fell down. But a strong pair of arms caught me. Sweats were already formed in my forehead.

"Stay with us." Red says, looking at me. Thankfully my hair is tied in a ponytail and my clothes weren't ripped off.

Some of the columns were down and Red carried me via bridal style and he puts me down to the side. "Is she-?" Kaldur asked.

"She's fine. She needed rest." Red says and puts my head on the column. I try to sleep, "Do not let her sleep." Kaldur says.

Red holds my hand which surprises me. "It's over Cheshire." Kaldur says, preparing his water bearers.

Cheshire stood up, "You wouldn't think so." A helicopter appears with Sportsmaster and a lot of men with him.

The men attacked the representative's men. "Go. I'll stay here a minute." I say to Red.

"But—"

"Just go. I'll be fine." I said. I may be bitter to him but Kaldur needs back up. And there is Sportsmaster.

Red quickly prepares an arrow. "Take Sportsmaster. Cheshire's mine." He says.

Cheshire took out her sai, "So territorial and only our third date." She says. Wait, she's dating him? He's dating him?

I try to stood up and it seems that my energy has been charged but not fully. He launches an arrow and Cheshire blocked it. Kaldur flipped and went to Sportsmaster.

In the corner of my eye, Sportsmaster is pretty good. He takes on few men and did not seem to break a sweat. What a weirdo.

Kaldur tries to smack his face with his water bearers and they continue to fight. Sportsmaster's men tries to punch me but I punched his face first.

"Ow!" I yelped and more men are coming. I took out my dagger and I went to the side and teleport. I teleport to one of the men's feet and kicks it.

A guy holds me but I kicked one of the men in his gut. An arrow exploded to one of the guy in the back.

I look at Red and I am sure he said, Got your back. "You called two of your sidekick friends? I thought you said they weren't in you league." Cheshire says.

I looked at Red and Kaldur got punched in his face. I teleported but Sportsmaster caught be the collar of my shirt.

He holds out a metal thing and tries to aim it at Kaldur. He pushes me to the side and my back hurts. "I so need a therapy after this." I said and get up.

We continued to fight, me and Kaldur against Sportsmaster. Kaldur turns his water into swords and I prepare my dagger.

"Not bad Lad." Sportsmaster says, taking his sword too. "And give credits to the girl too. That was intense back there."

"Shut up." I say.

"Better than your team at Santa Prisca and Bialya."

"How did you—"

"Let's just say that I have an inside source. Very inside." He says. I tight the grip on my dagger.

"Aqualad, let's end this." He shoots an arrow on the sprinklers above and we all got wet. I teleport to the columns and Aqualad made a huge dragon and fighting its way to Sportsmaster.

Suddenly the dragon stopped and everything was covered with smoke. We coughed and the hairs in my back stood straight. "Better find that mole girl, if you want answers to your nightmares." Sportsmaster's voice echoed in my ear.

A guy tries to kill Luthor but the woman in a suit shoots him. We looked back but no one is around. They're gone.

"Gives new meaning to the arms race, doesn't she?" Luthor says. The leaders had their open mouths.

"That technology is most impressive. We owe you our lives." They congratulate Luthor and shake his hands.

"They owe him their lives?" Red asked angrily.

I went outside and waited for Aqualad. Oh man, my bro is gonna kill me. Or worse Hal is gonna bury me alive. At least I wore my costume except for my mask. Gladly it wasn't torn.

"What am I gonna do?" I say to myself, walking in circles. "I'm gonna be like, Hey, Hal! What's up? This is so nuts!"

A hand stopped me and Kaldur and Red were there. "Hey, guys. How long have you've been standing there?"

"Not long." Red smirked. I'm gonna smack his face with my bare hands.

Kaldur turns to him. "The signing of the treaty renders their contact moot. It is over."

"Is it?" Red asks.

"What about the insider?" I asked. Kaldur's face darkens.

"Do you really think there is a mole, feeding the intel?" Red asks.

"I cannot rule out the possibility. I will investigate quietly."

"I won't tell anyone." I smile.

"Good luck with that." Red leaves but he stopped. He takes a step closer to me and whispers. "Can I talk to you some other time?"

I raised my eyebrows and he smile. "Okay." I replied and he left. Kaldur gives me a glare. "I swear he wasn't asking out on a date."

Kaldur just laughs as we make our way to the cave. What a night.

So reviews? When will Dani meet Roy again? Is Roy developing some feelings for her? Or did he care for her?
