Sarah might have thought that that night with Pitch might have changed things between her and Jareth, but for the most part things had stayed the same. She called on him a bit more frequently, and often she would find owl feathers or peaches left on her kitchen table. The peaches usually ended up in the garbage, but not without a smile and a roll of her eyes.
There were things unsaid, but the trust that had been lacking before was now deeper than ever. The nights she woke up with a scream on her lips, nightmares of that night in Pitch's lair coming back to haunt her, she'd often feel a gloved hand coaxing her awake, a silken voice calling her name and bringing her from her nightmares before awakening to an empty room.
There were more questions, nights when they'd both lie awake, discussing the kingdom or her job and how best to repel fairies. The magic that had divulged itself so easily when she wore his pendant had seemed to abate, but Jareth showed her the ways to let it flow slowly through her fingertips, glowing softly in the darkness, a soothing presence now more than ever. It would only truly divulge itself in the Underground, she knew, but it was soothing enough to hear his voice lazily explain the sensation, his gloved hand traveling the length of her arm until she glowed.
It was enough; more than she'd ever thought to have with the Goblin King.
Reclined in his throne, Jareth absentmindedly fingered the silver pendant that laid in his palm. His own pendant had long since been returned by Sarah, albeit not without a few remarks on how it had suited her better, and sat soundly at his chest. The pendant he so easily rolled through his fingers, however, was it's mate; an exact copy, yet smaller, more petite, the leather cord replaced by a thin black choker.
It may be years yet, but Jareth never had any doubt who it's intended would be.
AN: Thank you all for sticking with me! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to update and complete this, however I have really enjoyed writing it. Special thanks to FireShifter for sending me messages and motivating me. It may have been a while in the making but I hope it was worth the wait.
