CHAPTER 33: MISPLACED

COAST CITY

November 5, 2010 18:55 EDT

"Here you go." Hal gives me a chocolate monster cake from the café and I shove one slice to my mouth.

"Slow down, Dani. Calories will kill you." Uncle John says as he sips from his coffee. "What time is it?"

Hal sits down and take a bite from my cake. "We should get out of here in no time. Don't worry about it."

I take another bite and try to contain my anger. It has been four days after the super-secret meeting. I am so mad of Red Arrow because he accuses everyone he thinks they're suspicious or what. He's accusing Artemis because she isn't Green Arrow's niece. So what? Artemis is good and too bad he can't see that. He is such a jerk.

Uncle John snaps his fingers in front of my face. "Dani? Are you still thinking about what happened about the meeting?"

I shake my head and shove another piece of cake in my mouth. In a mouthful, "No! No I'm not. I am over it."

"Really?" Hal says and laugh along with Uncle John. "Dani please you never lie."

"I lie!" Hal raises his eyebrows. "Sometimes."

"Nope." Uncle John agrees. "Remember the time when you want to ask Carol out? Dani was the first one to know about it and she went to ferris aircraft to give your lunch. There she approach Carol and eventually told her about the surprise date. You should have seen the look on her face when you got home. It was really funny."

"It did spoil her. It took me a week to plan another one." Hal says. He takes a look at his watch. "Darn! We are late!"

We quickly went to the door. "Wait!" I yelled. Uncle and Hal stopped. "Aw come on, Dani!"

I pointed our table. Hal rolled his eyes and he went over to the table and put some bills and coins.

We ran to the streets and made it to the abandoned alley. "Get inside!" Hal says.

"We made it." Hal says and he takes out his ring to change his costume. Uncle follows him. We made our way to the Bay, where Manhunter, Batman and Zatara are waiting for Miss Martian and Superboy to unload the stuff inside the bioship.

"Tell me one good reason what are we doing here?" I whispered to Hal.

"Because Batman called me." He whispered back.

We approached them and Megan dropped the box. Wally quickly takes a peak from it. And also flirting with her as usual.

Uncle joins with Batman to help with the boxes. While Artemis and Zatanna came in, talking.

"Is Zatara gonna let Zatanna stay?" I asked Hal.

"Why are you asking that?"

"Nothing just curious. Zatanna is sorta kinda part of the team."

Then Hal's eyes grew wide. "Ha! You're jealous!"

"What? What are you talking about?" I quickly shut his mouth using my telekinesis.

Hal grabs my arms and I let him go. "You're jealous of Zatanna because Robin likes her." He teased.

"Am not!" He tries to shut my mouth and I grab it.

He escapes and makes a growling gesture. "You're gonna regret that."

"Make me. What are you going to do, tease me? That's all you've ever done."

"Take that back, Dani. You will be grounded when we get home."

"I wish you weren't such a jerk!" I yelled and suddenly Hal disappeared right in front of my face.

Oh no. "Dad!" I heard Zatanna yelled and someone dropped the box.

Robin, Zatanna and I were busy searching the holographic computer in the Cave. Kaldur planned to separate us in order to find a way to solve this problem.

"Don't give up, Dan. We have to find a way to bring back Hal and Uncle John." I say to myself.

"Traditional media is offline." Zatanna says. "But kids worldwide are all posting the same thing. Every adult, 18 or older has disappeared."

She passes some shots about the website. "The sorcery necessary to pull this off. Scary big."

"She's right, Rob. There's no way one could do this by him or herself."

Robin looks at her. "And we need you to find its source."

"How am I—" Zatanna asks and she sounds afraid.

"I pulled this footage." Robin zooms in a video of Zatanna, chanting a spell. "It's your dad, helping us locate Wotan and the Injustice League last month."

Zatanna chants and the globe revealed the place.

"But the words, I mean it's only part of it."Zatanna says. "And the rest takes training and Robin, I'm just not it Zatara's level."

"Zatanna you can do it. You have to try." I say and put a hand on her shoulder.

"Also try to be whelmed." Robin added. "We'll find your Dad, Batman, The Green Lanterns and everyone else. That's what we do."

I try to smile and something is ringing. "I got it. It's in my room. Sorry."

I teleport to my room and find my phone. Unknown number. Who is calling me in a time like this?

"Hello?"

"Dani, It's me!" It's a boy's voice.

"Me, who? Look guy or whatever you are this isn't—"

"Its Billy Batson! You know Captain Marvel!" Right.

"Billy? Is that really you? Why aren't you transported along with other adults? And how did you get this number?"

"Hal gave me his number and yours. Just in case of emergency. And also you gave me your number."

"Oh I must have forgotten it. I'm such an idiot."

"We don't have much time. You see I can't go to the cave as Billy. If I turn into captain marvel, I will be transported to the adult world."

"Right! How do we tell that to the team?" Then there's a silence. The TV in my room flashes something. I see Kaldur, Robin and Kid, giving an announcement.

"Are you seeing this?" I ask him. "Just tell me where you are."

"Fawcett City. Near a private airplane base."

"Got it." I closed my eyes and teleported there.

I saw Billy climbing a fence. "Psst! Billy!" I whispered loudly.

"Come on!" I ran and jumped a fence. "What the heck are we doing here?"

He gestures for me to follow him.

We went inside and I saw a girl, watching a TV. "Which is how exactly?" She asks.

"That depends. You have a pilot license?" Billy asks.

"Please don't tell me that we're flying." I say and the girl was shocked. "Friend of the kid."

My phone beeps. It's robin. And he says they have the coordinates. I quickly teleport to the cave.

I rushed to the main room and find the others busy with the holographic computer. Good thing I changed into my costume because they all look like they are ready for battle.

I approached to Zatanna who stares down to the ground. "Nice work Zatanna. Your dad will be so proud of you."

She smiles back. "You're brother and uncle too."

"Yeah."

"It worked!" I turned around and saw Billy in front of us. "Billy?"

The team looked at me. "I mean, What are you doing here kid?"

All of us approached him and Kaldur shoot him with lots of questions. "Who are you? Where did you come from?"

"Quick! Read my mind." He says to Megan.

Her eyes glowed. Shocked, she says. "He's captain marvel."

"Yeah and I'm speedy Gonzales." Kid says. What that does mean? "Just because he believes he's captain—"

"Gee, Wally, do I really have to bring you nachos and pineapples juice to get on your good side?" He says.

They exchanged glances. Billy winks at me. I shot him a look.

The plan is working. Billy is our bridge. He has to be Captain to contact the adults and be Billy to contact with us. Kaldur has a planned and Batman also has a plan.

His plan: Strike fast and work together. This is gonna be awesome.

ROANOKE ISLAND

I hid closely while Robin and Artemis tries to shoot Klarion from the back. As expected he stopped it and says "Is that the best you can do?" Blah, Blah.

He shoots a red laser to them and hit them.

Then Superboy, Kaldur and Kid strikes at him. But he makes a big force field that sends them flying.

Zatanna strikes a spell but the shield didn't bulge. He whips his hand and Zatanna was launched away but Superboy caught her.

Megan attacks with rocks and I jumped and summons lighting from the sky. "Ha!" I launched it at the shield and it seems to be shaking. Aw come on!

"Lightning can't do anything at me." He shoots fire and I shield myself.

Klarion transforms his cat into a big tiger and superboy attacks it. I kept on shooting him with lightning and he kept on shooting me with his fireball. I'm not gonna last.

"What's the matter girl? You're sweating." He teases.

"Shut it, boy. This shield will be broken before you know it." I take a deep breath and draw more power from the sky and the lightning grew bigger. The gem inside glowed and another lightning came out.

Robin and Artemis got hit along with Kid and Miss Martian. A big shot of pain hits me and I crash to the ground and I was out.

I feel a hard slap coming from my right cheek. "Ow!" I open my eyes and saw Hal and Uncle John, smiling.

"Uncle! Hal!" I hugged them hard. "I'm so sorry about what I did. I really am. You can punish me whenever you like, I won't escape. I promise."

"Good to see you, Dani. We're sorry too."

I let go and saw Doctor Fate flying in the sky. "What's going on?" I ask them.

They help me up and saw Zatanna hugging Zatara.

"He's sacrificing himself for zatanna's place for Doctor Fate." Uncle says.

Zatanna begged but Zatara didn't listen. He become Doctor Fate and disappeared in the sky,

"Let's go home." Hal says and I nod. He went first to Batman to say goodbye. He makes a big green shield and I teleport us back to Coast City.

Poor Zatanna.
