Sirocca's normally active mind ground to a halt. Where did she see or hear that girl before...? It couldn't have been that long ago... Think, Sirocca, think!
Myst's head edged towards the periphery of the Faunus' vision. "Sirocca...? Art thou feeling unwell? Mayhap thou shouldst have remained in thy bed and allowed me to procure thy breakfast," the blue-eyed girl softly voiced her concern.
Sky had noticed Holly's distracted glance and followed it, seeing Myst and Sirocca just past the corner. "Hey, look guys, we got company."
Team CRDL turned as one. "Well, well, if it isn't the girl who-" Russel began, but Cardin held a hand out to stop him. "What...? What's the matter, Cardin?"
Surprisingly, Cardin started walking away. "Let's go guys. Those three together will be nothing but problems." Without another word he walked off, Russel on his heels and asking why, Dove and Sky not far behind, still wondering at the abruptness of what happened.
Holly gave a small, derisive grunt as the human boys walked off. "So you all fear the numbers game, huh."
Sirocca tentatively took a few steps closer, eyes still locked onto Holly. "Do... Do I know you from somewhere before...?" But it's just impossible! Everyone in the clan was killed! There's no way there could've been any other survivors...
Myst simply watched, unsure how to react. Holly, on the other hand, twitched her ears at the tiger girl. "Huh? Say what?" She blinked a few times before speaking. "Uh, I don't believe I do. Unless you count the weird dream last night, but that's just ridiculous..." She added the last part quickly, almost under her breath.
At this, Sirocca seemed to come to her senses. The tiger girl shook her head and idly scratched the back of her head. "Y'know what, you're right. My mistake. Sorry to distract ya earlier," she hurriedly said before briskly walking to the same corridor Cardin and his team went off to.
Myst, however, noticed something that her Faunus friend didn't. She approached Holly and asked gently, "I do not mean to pry into thy affairs, but did I correctly hear thou say earlier something about a weird dream...?"
The other Faunus seemed to be caught by surprise. "Huh? Did I say that?"
The blue-eyed girl regarded Holly for a few more moments. "Pray, wait for me later after lunch, at the rooftop. I wish to speak with thee." She then turned and followed in the tiger girl's footsteps.
"Sirocca, wait!' Myst ran to catch up with the tiger Faunus.
Later, Holly was lounging on the dorm rooftop, hands behind her head. She was sitting in the shade of the wall while rhythmically moving her foot in time to an unheard melody. Her ears twitched as Myst opened the door. "I was starting to think you weren't going to come by," she cracked one eye open as Myst moved quietly to the shade.
Neither one spoke for a few minutes. Holly craned her neck upwards to the human girl, who was still standing. "Well, don't just stand there. There's plenty of room around to sit, lie down even."
Myst inwardly sighed and eased herself down to the floor. Holly glanced to her and blew out a disgruntled exhale. "Well, out with it. We don't have all day, y'know."
"I wouldst hate to naysay thee, but thou art incorrect. All first-years were given the rest of the afternoon off." Myst replied softly as she eased herself down in the shade.
Holly glanced sidewards to see the flaxen-haired girl reach up and remove the clasp that held her flaxen hair up in a high ponytail, letting her locks cascade down. "So what's the deal? Your hair?"
The wolf Faunus' words were met with an airy chuckle. "Nay, but it hath do to with thy dream."
Holly's wolf ears perked up, her face paling slightly. "Say what?" How did she find that out?
Before Holly could say anything else, Myst held a hand up, her Scroll in the other. "Sirocca shalt be furious if she finds out I spoke to someone else about this, but I wish to make sure. Canst thou recall the time thou awoke from the dream? Perhaps, an approximate?"
Holly blinked, not quite understanding why Myst was asking her such a question, but deciding it was alright to answer. "Uh... A little past 1, I think...?"
Myst's mind immediately replayed the scene in her mind's eye. Approximately the same time as Sirocca, the blue-eyed girl thought to herself. She opened the device in her hand and rapidly tapped on it, and without another word closed it. "I shalt not ask thee what thy dream was. But I shalt ask thee for a favor. Sirocca does not wish to speak with me about her troubles, but since thou art a Faunus like her she may open up to thee."
Holly narrowed her eyes at the human girl. "So basically you're asking me to play counselor to that oversized kitten. What's in it for me?"
"Hey, watch who ya're callin' names," Sirocca called from above them. Both Holly and Myst looked up as the tiger Faunus silently leapt from the ledge above them and land on all fours just as quietly. She yawned as she stood up, stretching her arms upward. "I guess I could say the same for ya, ya oversized pup."
The wolf Faunus' ears flattened against her head. "Watch who you call a pup," she practically growled in a low voice. "You might find yourself in trouble."
Sirocca merely shrugged. "That's what I said earlier right? Anyways, whatcha call me up here for, Mud-Eater?" She bounded to the human girl's lap, tail flicking merrily, ignoring the other Faunus' silent fuming at being labeled a pup.
The flaxen-haired girl sighed. "Sirocca, thou art perilously close to being shut out of our room for a fortnight, if thou canst not keep thy tongue in check. Anyway, as thou seemingly can not bring thine self to confide in me, I asked the lady here to stand as thy counselor in my stead-"
"Whoa whoa whoa, hold up one second there," Sirocca's arms shot up, her hands moving side to side in a visible gesture of refusal. "I never agreed to this! C'mon Mud-Eater, y'know you're the only one that could keep up with me! We've been stuck together since we were kids, what made ya think I could just as easily spill my guts to an outsider, no offense meant to ya pup." The tiger girl had a pleading look on her face, and her amber eyes belied the terror she was hiding within her. "Please. Don't do this to me."
Holly felt it would be unwise to speak right now. Myst, unfortunately, felt otherwise as the human girl glanced to her direction. And I didn't even get to ask what I'll get in exchange. Bummer. The wolf Faunus mentally facepalmed as she sighed. "I gotta say I'm curious. Miss psychiatrist here said you had some... Weird dreams lately, but you wouldn't talk to her about it. I've had some really weird dreams lately, too."
Sirocca's voice went down a notch. "What kind of weird are we talking about here? Humans behavin' like animals? All people bein' undead and chasin' ya for your fresh brain? Seein' everyone have another self in another universe? Findin' a book with everything you've said and done and will say and do in the future? Seein' professor Port do a lapdance on ya? Omelets eatin' you up for br-"
"Stop!" Holly was up in a flash, hand over Sirocca's mouth. She released her hold when she felt the tiger girl wasn't going to continue. "Jeez, you sure have a weird imagination. No, my kind of weird is that... Well... I had this dream of killing off Beowolves-"
"Everyone has 'em," Sirocca cut in, partially under her breath.
Holly continued, not hearing Sirocca's butting in. "-and I end up saving someone from death, but I always wake up before I could see that person's face."
All three were silent for a few minutes, both Fauna looking at each other steadily. Myst switched her gaze between the two. "... And what then?" Sirocca's tail only twitched occasionally now.
Holly sighed and shrugged before speaking again. "That's just it. I only see her - I'm sure it was a girl - being bear-hugged to death."
"That's it?! You didn't say anything to her? Or even try to do anything? Aw man, in yer dreams y' could be a superhero but you didn't even try it..." Sirocca was clearly disappointed in the other Faunus' lack of creativity, to which Myst only gently smiled.
"Hey, I woke up even before I could do more!" Holly's ears slightly flattened against her head, clearly getting more agitated. "I did get a chance to throw my scythe to the Ursa holding her-"
The tiger Faunus held a hand up, cutting off the other's words. "Wait. Ursa?" She threw a questioning glance to Myst, who remained expressionless.
"Yes, an Ursa. Beowolves can't bearhug, but they have a mean bite," Holly firmly pushed Sirocca's hand down. "So I did throw my scythe, barely missed the girl's head, got the Ursa, and shouted something before waking up."
Sirocca felt goosebumps crawl up her arms. "Don't... Give up?"
Holly's eyes widened in realization. "Holy... Crap."
Both Fauna stood and pointed to each other, exclaiming the exact same words in unison. "It was YOU!"
So, finally managed to clear this outta my head. I had to do several re-writes since most of the stuff here was written while waiting for my application to be processed, and ended up being so disjointed and lacking any sort of sense.
Anyways, reviews / comments are very much appreciated. Next chapters could take me longer, but let me promise you all that I will NOT be stopping this in the foreseeable future. Why stop doing something when you enjoy it, right?
Anyways, I'm outta here for now.
Sanguis out.
