CHAPTER EIGHT: REVELATION
Getting settled into Edward's room, or chamber for that matter, was relatively easy. He was patient and offered her the privacy she needed when she needed it without too many annoying comments. Time seemed to have flown by, after all, a week had already passed. Bella awoke to a pressure on her chest. With panic, she jerked to a sitting position to find a head with familiar messy hair laying on her chest. The girl sighed, thankful that it was not some murderer coming to end her life.
Mild brown eyes continued to stare at the boy laying on her chest, usually she would feel embarrassed but considering they've been sleeping on the same bed for the past week, it didn't affect her the way it usually would. She brushed a few loose strands from his face and stared for a few moments wondering how the two of them came to this. The murder, of which she was accused, the trial and everything was just so confusing, Bella was still trying to cope with the thought. How did she end up here? Could she ever find a way home? It felt as though time was passing by too quickly, it felt as though two years was such a short amount of time. What did they accomplish in the last week? Absolutely nothing.
Several moments later, she gently set his head back on the layers of cloth meant to be used as a pillow. After swinging her legs off the bed, she made her way for the door and stepped outside.
The palace itself never ceased to surprise her, Bella always thought it she were to go back in time she would long for the complicated structures of the future but that was false. The walls, the ceilings and even the floors had distinctive markings which she envied. The curtains on the walls, meant to protect them from anyone's carelessness as explained by Prince Edward, had the family's insignia repeating vertically. The expertly embroidered markings consisted of a struggling lion and a snake wrapped around its torso. What was strange was that the lion should have looked as though it were dying or at least suffocating but it didn't look that way. The lion was merely struggling to get away from the snake, which wasn't even causing him any real harm.
She'd have to ask Prince Edward about the real meaning behind the symbol, surely there was some sort of underlying metaphor.
If only she were actually born in this timeline along with her dad and... Jacob. Bella's mind wandered off as her feet aimlessly walked around the palace. She wondered how he was doing, Jacob was always around her leaving her to wonder whether he was doing fine without her around. Did he miss her? Was he trying to contact her? Why did her cellphone suddenly work when there should have been no signal, was it some sort of trick? So many questions and absolutely no answers. Frustrated, a sigh escaped her lips, Bella thought of Prince Edward and the way they acted around each other. She felt a little guilty about sleeping with him while she was technically dating someone else. Honestly what could she do? It was either sleeping with him while being safe or sleeping alone while possibly dying. There was no grey area in this situation, it was either black or white.
Once Bella came to, she realized her feet had led her to the kitchen of the palace. How she got here, she had no idea but the rumbling of her stomach let her know that her feet were probably following her stomach's commands. With resignation, she stepped inside only to realize that she had company. Quickly as to not get discovered, she quickly hid behind a sort of cabinet and crouched. Voices were murmuring and mumbling until a certain comment caused her heart to skip a beat, if not stop all together.
"We need to find a way to kill her, it's too dangerous to let her walk around as though it were her own home!" A woman's voice hissed, it sounded like the Queen! A low chuckle, which sounded more like a rumble, followed her statement. "No worries mother. No one will know, she herself does not know the purpose for which she was brought here."
The queen sighed, "I just don't want anyone to suspect it was you, you are my one and only true son. It's not that hard to see that you could have motive for ascending the throne."
The man chuckled again, curious as to who it is, Bella peeked around the cabinet to see a medium height man who looked a lot like Edward with his naturally messy hair. "It's alright mother. Father has already given his sentence, if anything were to happen to her whoever did it would pay gravely since it would interfere with his ruling. She knows nothing of our world or lifetime, surely she'll manage to get herself killed somehow."
The queen rubbed the bridge of her nose, eyes looking sympathetically at her son, "Forgive me my dear, I am just anxious. I just want you to get on the throne so that the Kingdom of Forks can go back to its former glory. Carlisle has slacked with his responsibilities lately."
The son wrapped his arms around his mother's shaking shoulder, his expression was everything but remorseful. The evil grin stretching his lips were clear indication of his ill intentions. Queen Esme seemed to just want the Kingdom to revert back to its glory filled days, this man however seemed to have other plans. The sudden revelation was enough to bring her back to reality and the reality was that her legs were now aching, trembling even from the constant strain of the squat she was in. Attempting to alleviate the strain, Bella shifted her leg and accidentally moved a vase, a vase that hadn't even existed two minutes ago. The beautiful artwork twirled before falling on its side and crashing into dozens of pieces.
Hoping the loud vase crashing didn't alarm them did nothing for Bella's sake. The two people turn around to find the girl with wide eyes. The man's eyes twitched in an odd manner, as though he were annoyed. The queen on the other hand seemed to explode, her eyes widened in what seemed like fear and surprise. Fear for what? As if anyone would believe Bella's word over the queen.
"Why are you here?!" The queen hissed, eyes narrowed while her hands rummaged through several compartments and finally landed on what she needed, the freshly polished knife. Bella's eyes widened in fear and her legs bolted out the kitchen, down the hall and towards Edward's room, wherever that was. Down a set of halls, to the right, more halls with the sound of shoes snapping on the ground behind her. Bella didn't even turn around to see whether it was the Queen or not, all she knew was that she needed to run and she couldn't stop doing it.
Around another hall, the man speaking with the Queen earlier grabbed her arms and locked her in place. Bella struggled, the chief of police daughter genes kicked in, forcing arms to push and pull. Her poorly kept nails scratch and whatever she could find until the man, having had enough, slammed her into the wall. Her neck jerked backwards, causing her head to slam into the wall and suddenly all sounds were gone. Bella felt something warm slide down her neck, into her shirt and down her back. Did he slam her so hard that her head started bleeding? Head injuries were definitely not a joke, she could get a concussion! The Queen soon appeared next to them with the weapon Bella was running away from earlier, its sharpness practically glinted in the darkness as though it wouldn't allow Bella's eyes to wander somewhere other than the sharp blade.
After what felt like an eternity, the girl finally began retrieving her hearing as the man finished his sentence, "How dare you eavesdrop?" The queen, anxious, approached Bella, "Son, she knows!"
"Knows what?" Another voice called out from behind them, the queen quickly turned around while hiding the weapon behind her. "Jasper? Queen Esme? How rare to see the two of you awake at such an hour, did I miss something?"
Tears welled up in Bella's eyes, she would kiss Edward right now if she could... or wanted to for that matter. It didn't matter anymore, Jacob wasn't here, dad wasn't here, all she had was an annoyingly cocky prince and his weird sister Alice and she couldn't ask for anything better. Edward looked at her, motioning for her to come to his side which she quickly did. He didn't need to tell her twice.
"Queen Esme?" His eyes looked over at his brother, "Jasper? She knows what exactly?"
A/N: There you go! Now you know who it is but it doesn't end here, there's a lot more stuff that needs to happen. I'm not going to give an exact day or time of when the next chapter will be here, but it will come.
Next time, we meet up with Alice to exchange information... and what? Edward's going to war? Until next time!
