CHAPTER NINE: DECLARATION OF WAR

"Queen Esme?" His eyes looked over at his brother, "Jasper? She knows what exactly?"

The silence that stretched throughout the hall could cause someone to go mad. The Queen quickly regained her bearings, now hiding the knife behind her dress and managing to look as elegant as she did on the throne. "Nothing of great importance to you Edward. We have matters with this girl, and only her." She moved towards Bella, hand extended to wrap around her forearm but was quickly stopped by Edward.

"What matters Queen Esme?" He asked, maintaining his position between Bella and the other two. "As you two should both know, she and I have made a blood bond so her matters are also mine."

If looks could kill, the Queen could have watched as Edward lay on the ground bleeding to death from the knife behind her. Mind wandering off, her hand loosened its grip on the knife, letting it clatter to the ground behind Jasper. Edward made a move to pick up whatever object it was but his efforts were stopped by a now flaming red hand imprint on his left cheek. The slap hadn't even registered. "Keep you and your filthy blood bond away from us you traitor!" She hissed, eye flashing before motioning towards Jasper who quickly picked up the knife away from Edward's vision. The two made their way down the hall but not without Esme flashed a glare that could kill towards Bella and Edward. When they turned in the next corner, Bella sighed and slumped against the wall, finally releasing her much needed tears.

Edward figured he would just stand there in silence, wait until she was done but about five minutes had passed and Bella's hysterics were only getting worse; servants were also beginning to whisper, wondering what the prince could have done to cause such sadden in the girl that seemed so strong to them. These were the first tears they'd seen her shed, Bella was far from strong however.

Warm, calloused fingers gripped her wrist and dragged her to his bedroom. "What is going on? Why are you crying like this?" This was almost as bad as when she heard those voice from that strange contraption of hers.

"Queen.. She… Knife… death… Kill… Jasper… Evil…" The girl could barely get a word out from her hiccups.

Edward sighed, exasperated, surely whatever she went through does not deserve this much distress and he could feel the upcoming tears. "Stop. Crying." He bit out, voice hoarse.

"How can you be so." Hiccups, "insensitive? I was almost killed." another hiccup, "Your brother is a freaking psycho who wants to take over the freaking throne… It's like I'm living through an episode of Vikings or even Spartacus! Well wait, they weren't exactly about taking over stuff… Whatever I wasn't paying much attention."

Edward sent thanks to the gods that she got distracted rather easily, he took a deep breath to steady his emotions before continuing, "Bella." He called out, using her name was strange, "Explain to me what just happened. I can't help if I don't know anything." That was a lie, he couldn't help even if he did know something unless there was tangible proof, besides no one would believe his word after knowing it came from her, the supposed murderer right now.

Bella wiped away any remaining traces of tears on her red puffy cheeks before sniffling and continuing, "I was hungry so I wandered around to find some sort of kitchen and when I found it, I saw Esme and Jasper behind the table whispering to each other." She gulped, "I got a little curious so I inched closer and heard them talking about something not being Jasper's fault and Esme was talking about wanting this Kingdom to go back to its former glory, apparently she thinks Carlisle isn't doing such a good job. Jasper seemed to angry and when they hugged…" Bella practically shivered out of her wits, the expression on Jasper's face at that point in time was terrifying, "Jasper's face… it was as if the devil had taken over or something."

A moment of silence stretched throughout the room, Bella was thinking and Edward was absorbing what he was just told. Jasper? Could it really be that you're…

"the murderer!" Bella exclaimed, finishing his thoughts. "He has to be the killer. It makes perfect sense. He wants to take over the throne and considering Emmett was in the way, he just killed him but he needed to find some way to get away with the murder. If the crown prince was suddenly killed, of course the second in line would seem suspicious. The bastard is using Esme, though she's pretty evil… I think she has good intentions. Jasper just wants the throne for power probably…" Bella shifted on the bed, crossing and uncrossing her legs repeatedly. This place was so corrupted it was painful. How could you prove something in a world without DNA testing and a proper judicial system? If the King was remotely influenced that suddenly ruined anything, she wondered if she could bring her futuristic ideals into this time, would it change history? Could it affect the future in some weird ripple of time sort of way? Way too many questions and too few answers were available at this point in time.

Her brown eyes darted towards Edward for the first time during her entire spiel. His expression was a mixture of shock and horror, she supposed he hadn't suspected his brother of such a thing. It took a moment before Edward finally spoke,

"Jasper?" He asked, mostly to himself, "For the throne? All of this for the throne?!" The next thing Bella knew, a fancy looking vase was now shattered and in pieces by the wall. "Emmett never even wanted the position! He had no choice, father didn't let him back down. All Jasper had to do was ask Emmett and he would abdicated for eternity." Fury burned in his emerald orbs, he never thought the brother he grew up with was capable of such a thing.

Edward, panting from anger or overexertion from throwing the vase, sat back down with his fists clenched tight to the point of his knuckles turning white. "We need some sort of evidence for this. I won't let him get away with this." His jaws were tight.

Bella's eyes softened, surely it must be hard to have this suddenly dropped onto someone's lap. "Yes but I don't think we can find it that easily. This is a case of easier said than done to be honest. It seems like other Esme and Jasper are in this plot."

Edward nodded, his attention here and far away at the same time, "You're right. We can begin searching, I'll try to speak with mother more, maybe she'll let something slip along the way." With a sigh, he continued, "We need to talk to Alice about thi-"

Right on time, a knock sounded on the wall outside. Alice walks in immediately after, with a large plate full of fruits and what looked like jujubes. She noticed Bella and Edward along with the tension that was thick in the air, "Does this mean you guys don't want any fruits?" She asked, "

It only took a few minutes for Bella and Edward to inform Alice of what they had just discovered and another silence filled the room as Alice digested the information. Her eyes narrowed, anger radiating off her entire body. "He did what?!" She shrieked, "Crap! I even came with bad news, they're sending you to the battlefield with Jasper, now it all seems like a plot to get you killed and out the way."

Edward nodded, listening to her before realizing what she just said, "Wait what? We're going to war with Victoria's troops? That wasn't for another season or so!" He exclaimed while Alice nodded,

"I know brother but you can't refuse it. Jasper specifically asked father to make you come, he said 'battle experience would be good for him'. I think it's a load of crap after you told me all this though."

Bella had sat aside, listening to their back and forth conversation before something just crossed her mind, "Wait! What am I supposed to do while Prince Edward goes to war?" Her eyes widened, this definitely was not good! They could kill her in her sleep, or push her off some balcony for that matter!

Edward scoffed, "Well obviously you're coming with me to war idiot commoner."

The girl shook with fury, "Say what now?" She growled before the thought sunk in, "Wait… repeat what you just said? I didn't hear correctly, sounded like you wanted me to accompany you to-"

"War." He finished for her, "Yes, you thought I would leave you here?"

Bella looked at Alice, almost as if for support but the short haired girl merely stared at a suddenly interesting crack in the wall. "Say what now?" This time, her tone held more resignation and fear than anger.

If only they knew, how this decision would spark so many events for all three of them.

A/N: Well! There you go, now you know what happened to these guys after so long. I don't know when I'll update again, hopefully soon… Until next time! :D
