badly-knitted the Spitting Venus while mildly poisonous that causes mild irritation of the skin, it isn't harmful, it is just like a ant bite or like a mosquito bite. And the spitting and the irritation is part of its reproductive cycle, it senses movement (some plants can be sensitive to vibrations) it spits at local wildlife, wildlife gets spooked and runs off, wildlife gets itchy skin and scratches up against tree, tree is covered in this 'spit', pollination occurs, it develops a viable seed, seed grows in the shade of tree, starts cycle again.
