Chapter 30: Wednesday

Kensi was excited to return home. It'd been a good day at work and the guys had said they'd come over to visit for a while before heading home. Deeks had been out of sight for a little over a week. He was able to move around better so Kensi didn't have to tend to him 24/7 and had returned to work yesterday. Even with Monty he felt incredibly lonely. He'd gotten so used to having Kensi around that he felt so sad and lonely without her there. There was nothing to do but sit around and watch movies. Too much movement and his side began to ache, too little movement and he became so restless he went insane. He couldn't win.

"Oh God, Monty. I can't believe I'm still stuck in this house for three weeks. I can't even stay standing for more than fifteen minutes or my side screams at me. What am I supposed to do for Thanksgiving? It's tomorrow and I can't handle riding in a car and this place is way too messy and small to have people over. But I don't want it to be just Kensi and I. We've always had Thanksgiving dinner with the team."

Monty just groaned and set his face on the couch staring at Deeks.

"I really need to get out. I'm talking to a dog." Deeks said. Monty seemed to snort indignantly at his comment.

"I know. I'm sorry. But it's true. I'm gonna be the guy with twenty cats." Monty growled a little.

"Don't worry. I won't do that." He said when a knock reached his ears. Monty darted to the door and sniffed it then started wagging his tail excitedly and barking. "Look's like mommy's home." Deeks raised himself off the couch slowly and walked to the door. "Who is it?" Deeks asked in a song song voice.

"The woman holding your Yummy Yummy Heart Attack." Kensi answered with a smile. Deeks opened the door with a grin on his face. "Hi Monty!" She greeted happily petting the dog who pranced around her before retreating to his master again.

"Remember last time we ate this?" Deeks asked.

"Yeah." Kensi replied softly. "Hard to forget."

"Yeah. Three months, one week and two days ago." Deeks said without having to think.

Kensi just looked at him with a look he couldn't decipher. "What?" He asked.

"You're keeping track?"

"Of course I am." He said as if it was a no brainier. Kensi smiled and looked down trying not to cry at the simplest testament of love. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked concerned.

"Yeah I'm good. I'm just...a bit speechless that you're counting."

"Well yeah. I mean look at you, you're...smoking hot Kens and I'm...not. I have to have something to hold over my friends and tell my kids that there's hope for everyone."

"Oh please. As far as I'm concerned your a ten." Kensi said with a smile taking a bite of her Chinese.

Deeks laughed. "If I'm a ten, then you're a twenty."

"Oh, eat up. The guys will be over soon."

"Oh cool, that'll be nice. We can play Apples to Apples or maybe watch some football." He suggested.

"It's Wednesday Deeks, football is tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, what are we doing?" Kensi asked curiously.

"I don't know. We've always had it with the guys but I'm not well enough to handle a car ride and my kitchen is too small. I mean this room alone barely fits four as it is.

"So what if I just knock you out for the car ride and we go to Sam's house?" She asked with a smile.

"Haha very funny." Deeks said finishing off his lo mein.

"So we can just have our own this year. We could finally start planning our wedding tomorrow. It can be all about us. Because if there's one thing I'm thankful for,...it's having met you and loving you." She said sweetly. They gazed at each other with smiling eyes and for a moment it was silent and nice.

"I love you Kensi." He whispered not wanting to break the nice silence.

"I love you too." She whispered with a smile. There was another knock at the door that shook them out if their own little world. Monty barked and ran to the door recognizing the scent."Coming!" She shouted getting up from the couch. "You guys are here early." Kensi said surprised.

"Traffic was light and G drove." Sam answered patting Monty's head.

"So where's our boy?" Callen asked walking across the threshold lightly petting Monty.

"Chilling on the couch." Deeks called out with a smile. "Nice to see you guys. "

"You too man." Sam said and Callen both said pulling Deeks up into a hug.

"How's the side doing?" Sam asked concerned.

"The pain's a bitch but it's slowly getting manageable." Deeks answered.

"I see it leaves you no time to pick up your apartment." Callen noted looking at the scattered mess.

"Yeah well, you know how it goes. How are you guys doing?" He asked relaxing on the couch grabbing up his chopsticks and trying to get some food from Kensi who just slapped his hand.

"No! Back off. You have your own." Kensi said indignantly. Sam and Callen chuckled.

"I see he still hasn't learned either." Callen said with a laugh.

"He has a brain smaller than his ego, remember." Kensi joked with a grin.

"Really? You're gonna pick on me at home. Not cool Kens. Not cool at all." Deeks pouted.

"Oh no, watch out G. He's gonna start making puppy eyes next with that quivering lip." Sam messed around.

"I'm done." Deeks said throwing up his hands, walking away to the bathroom, the sound of laughter filling the space behind him.
