Chapter 31: Thanksgiving

Deeks sat in his kitchen peeling potatoes with the T.V cranked up so he could hear the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Kensi was out at the store trying to find a turkey last minute. They'd decided to make themselves a Thanksgiving meal since they couldn't go out. He'd found some potatoes in his pantry and took them out to begin peeling and quartering them for mashed potatoes. They'd taken inventory of what he had and decided to make mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, turkey, gravy, and a pumpkin pie.

Kensi however had to go out and buy the boxes of stuffing, turkey, corn, and the pie crusts. Deeks had agreed to stay behind to peel and quater the potatoes and cut the ends of the green beans off.

As he listened and peeled, his mind wandered to what kind of wedding he wanted to have. He envisioned the two of them on a beach with Kensi in a beautiful flowing white gown, himself in a tux, and Monty with a tie. He grinned a little and wondered what Kensi envisioned for the wedding. He personally wanted the theme to be love at first sight because the cliche was damn near accurate. But he could care less if Kensi wanted to get married in a submarine or in a plane so long as she was his for the remainder of eternity.

"What do you think boy? Plane...or beach?" Monty barked in response to the second one and Deeks chuckled. "I'll be sure to let her know you cast your opinion." He pet Monty and scratched his ears before continuing to peel the potatoes.

He finished his tasks in a half hour's time and went into the living room to watch the parade. His phone lay on the table in front of him and he grabbed it and sent a text to everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving! :) -Densi 3

He grinned at his text and waited for the questions and virtual looks to come. The first one he received was from Callen.

Really? Does Kensi know about this?

Deeks grinned.

No, but it is pretty cool.

Just wait. She'll flay you alive and I'll be there to watch with videocamera in hand. It'll probably go viral.

Oh ye of little faith. I'll just seduce her.

TMI Deeks. Moving on. How are you doing?

Fine I guess. Just sitting around waiting for Kensi to come back from the store.

Trying to find a turkey last minute?

Yeah. Are you at Sam's?

Yeah. I'm watching the parade while Sam is basting the bird.

Oh cool. I'm watching the parade too.

Cool. So what are you guys having?

Mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, turkey, and pumpkin pie.

You making it or Kensi?

Both of us.

That's nice. Well, Happy Thanksgiving Deeks. Tell Kensi as well. Get better. We miss messing with you at work.

Ha thanks. Enjoy your turkey.

You too.

Deeks was about to put his phone down when it buzzed again. He opened the message.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well Mr. Deeks.

He smiled.

Thanks Hetty.

How is your recovery?

Slow. Too slow. I'm going crazy. I can't lift anything, can't surf, can't walk a whole lot. My system is adjusting fine but my mind can't handle the inactivity again.

I see. And Ms. Blye

she's doing fine. There's just minor things that she's forgetting like where she put her keys or how much milk she's supposed to put in the eggs. And she gets frustrated because she knows that she used to know.

Our brain is often a blessing and a curse, a double edged sword.

Yeah.

Enjoy your day of thanks Mr. Deeks.

Thank you, you too Hetty.

Deeks heard a key be put in the door and unlock. Monty jumped off the couch and dashed for the door, his tail wagging excitedly as his nose captured his Master's lover's scent.

As the door opened Monty blocked Kensi's path until she finally pet him.

"Find a turkey?" He asked hopefully.

"Barely. It was the last one at Wal-Mart. I had to run to get it." Kensi said still surprised at how crazy people were.

Deeks chuckled. "So where's the bird then?"

"In the car." She answered.

"That big?" He marveled.

"That heavy. Eight pounds." Kensi answered.

"Decent sized bird for only two." He said.

Kensi laughed at his sarcasm. It was obviously more than enough for two. "Gives us plenty for leftovers and sandwiches." She said enthusiastically. Kensi rolled her eyes and brought the groceries into the kitchen.

"Come on lazy bones. We've got work to do." She said after coming back in with the turkey.

"Coming Fern." He said with a grin, getting up with minimal pain.

Despite her protests Kensi had become quite fond of that name. She always associated it with their first case that they had to come up with new names. She smiled as he walked in with Monty at his heels. The two of them had become her family and on a day like today she was reminded of just how thankful she was to have them in her life. She couldn't picture a day now without him. Well, at least she didn't want to.

"Hey, Earth to Kensi. Where'd you go?" He asked with a chuckle. Kensi blinked and smiled. She leaned forward and placed a kiss on his unsuspecting lips.

"Wow. What was that for?"

"I'm thankful for you and Monty as my family." Deeks smiled.

"Me too. I'm thankful for my beautiful, loving fiancé, soon to be wife." Kensi smiled and they kissed again in the middle of his kitchen. Monty barked and they broke away laughing. "Oh. Monty wants the wedding ceremony to be on the beach."

"Oh he does, does he?" She questioned sarcastically wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Yup. I asked him and he barked yes." Deeks said casually.

"Uh huh." Kensi said with a smile closing in again. He grinned and closed the distance to kiss her again. Once again Monty barked and they pulled apart.

"Yeah yeah. Sounds like someone is telling us to get to work." Kensi said.

"Yeah, he's bossy like someone else I know." Deeks grinned and Kensi lightly punched his shoulder and removed her arms from around his neck.

"Watch yourself." Deeks set to work on prepping the turkey and got out his slow cooker he had bought years back but never used.

It was nearly four when they sat down to eat and watch the football game. It'd been a quieter than normal Thanksgiving day but with Kensi it felt nice. He was relaxed and happy. Monty was enjoying his bone that Kensi had bought for him while Kensi and Deeks enjoyed their turkey cuddled together.

"Marty?"

"Princess?" He replied.

"What do you think might have happened if I hadn't of stayed that night?"

"Who knows. Maybe we'd have kept dancing around each other then when one of us finally did something and we started moving forward you might have been reassigned to go to Afghanistan or something and I'd be here heartbroken." Deeks mused glad that wasn't the case at all.

"I'm glad that's not true. I'm quite happy where we are now."

"Engaged and in love and permanently disabled in some aspects?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I don't care about that because I still have you here with me." Kensi answered.

"Can't we just go get married right now in Vegas?" He asked.

"Patience. I'll want to marry you in five minutes or in five years."

"I just want you to be mine forever right now." He said with a sigh.

"I already am." She whispered kissing his cheek. Deeks smiled and yawned. He set down his half eaten plate of food on the coffee table and stretched across the couch until his head was on a pillow in Kensi's lap. He yawned again and closed his eyes.

"Just do me a favor and don't drop any of that food on me." He said sleepily. Kensi laughed and continued eating as he drifted asleep. "Thanks for a nice day." He whispered.

"Anytime." She replied with a smile combing a hand through his hair.
